Re: Video: We Have A Lot Of Feelings About Banjo-Kazooie On Switch

Personally, I think the 64 Switch Online has been great. The games are fun, the emulation isn't a "deal breaker" to me, and it's so much better getting to play these games on a regular style controller. Banjo is a great game and I'm happy Microsoft is still friendly with Nintendo and allows little surprises like this to come to the Switch.

Re: Nintendo Switch Maintains Interest From Developers In Latest GDC Industry Report

The third party support for the Switch has been the best for a Nintendo console since the Super NES. Unfortunately, it's hardware is quite aged now, so that support will get weaker and weaker with time. I think there is likely 2, maybe 3 years left of good games coming to the platform, but Nintendo needs to really start thinking about their next gen console, which hopefully is a fully backward compatible Switch with better specs.

Re: Analyst Predicts 2024 Release Date For Next-Gen Nintendo Switch Successor

@Grail_Quest Thanks for the response. I'm not expecting a 1 for 1 match with the specs of the PS5 or the XBox, but something close to a PS4 in specs. We've seen that the Switch can indeed run some pretty high end AAA games like DOOM and Witcher 3, so update the specs a little to cut down on frame rate issues and improve graphical processing could help get more games coming over on a regular basis.

Nintendo, please do the following:

  • Make it 100% backwards compatible with the current Switch software
  • Continue the Switch aspect of it
  • Do what you can to prevent the "only on PlayStation and Xbox" phenomenon. I don't want to buy those consoles. I have time for one console and it's for the Switch. I want a good selection of first party exclusives, third party games and indies.
  • Make a robust online platform.
  • Limit the amount of "gimmick weirdness" to it.

Re: E3 Is Going To Be Digital-Only Again This Year, Thanks To COVID-19

I'll be curious how CES turns out, as they kept it in person this year. From everything I've heard, omnicron is more contagious, but also much more mild, so in a way, this could be the one that makes the pandemic turn into an endemic and actually gets us over the hump. Hey, it's a new year and I'm going the glass half full route.

Re: NFL Coach, Broadcaster And Video Game Icon John Madden Passes Away At 85

I read an interview a few years ago about the creation of the Madden video game series. When Madden came to EA to discuss the game, the studio thought he was just going to sign his name and pretty much be done with his involvement with the series. When he showed up, he had notebooks and files with him. EA asked "what is all of this?" and Madden responded, "oh, just some ideas and suggestions I had for the game." The designers and programmers were shocked at all the work and thought he put into the game, and for the original game and a few of the sequels afterwards, he was VERY involved with the game.

RIP to a legend in coaching, broadcasting, TV commercials and video games. Truly a renaissance man.

Re: Metroid Dread Crowned #1 In TIME's 'Best Games Of 2021'

I love that a 2D, stick to the basics but for modern times, game has been so well received. It really is that good. I like it better than Super Metroid, which is fantastic, but has some bad controls that make the game frustrating at times.

Nintendo has some great adult oriented IPs like Metroid, Bayonetta (It's been exclusive to Nintendo for a while now, so I will call it a Nintendo IP), Astral Chain, and Zelda. I wish they would dip their toe into more of these kind of games.

As for my most underrated game of the year... I think No More Heroes III.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Game Awards No-Show Proves It Simply Doesn't Need Anyone Else

Look, I wrote a comment a few days ago about how bad The Game Awards are, and I'm not going to repeat all that.

Having said that, it is a bit concerning how so many of the new third party releases are not making their way over to the Switch.

Yes, many third party games have missed the Switch since it's release, but the number is growing. Psychonats 2 and It Takes Two would both fit the Switch like a glove, but the aging tech is making more developers not even take the chance on bringing the games over. And if a big AAA game does come over, it's likely going to be some gimped up "cloud" garbage that basically requires an ultra fast internet connection and that at some point will disappear when servers are shut down in 10 years or so.

I love the Switch, but it's aging, and up against the PS5 and new XBox, it looks old. I would love a more capable, powerful Switch that would bring over some more of these third party games. Hell, the Switch likely is going to pass 100 million units sold by the end of the year, and we still don't have a Madden on the console.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The Game Awards 2021?

kingbk

4/10.

The older I get, the less I care about celebrities. I really don't need to see them try to be hip and act like they care about gaming. It just turns me off.

The "Big 3" (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft) were pretty much AWOL. Microsoft probably had the biggest presence of them all, but still... they didn't bring their "big guns" to the show.

I'm glad they mentioned the ongoing Activision Blizzard situation. That isn't "being woke," that's a terrible company being called out for being terrible. The rest of the virtue signaling throughout the show though I could do without...

3 hours is too long.

Like video game music, but don't need it to be THAT long.

Most of the reveals were... eh at best. Mostly FPS, free to play and Assassin's Creed-like games that I couldn't care less about.

Happy Metroid Dread won an award.

It Takes Two was a solid win. A very unique, innovative idea in an industry that more and more these days is far from that.

I don't think I'll watch next year.

Re: The Game Awards GOTY For 2021 Is 'It Takes Two' By Hazelight Studios

kingbk

Too much side stuff that I don't care about. Facebook/Meta/whatever they call themselves anymore is a horrible company, so didn't like all the ads for them. All the celebrities were a big yawn. Don't care at all about them. If I wanted to see movie or TV show previews, I'd watch a movie or TV show award show. All the "world premieres" were... meh. All looked similar and were either FPS, free to play or looks kind of like Assassin's Creed but isn't. As for Nintendo... great to see Metroid Dread win at least one award, but other than that, nothing too exciting, unless Cuphead DLC and open world Sonic are up you alley. I'll skip it next year. 4/10.

Re: Arcade Paradise Will Play On Our '90s Nostalgia Next Spring

What I'd really love is someone going to WB Games and giving them whatever to make a Midway/Williams/Atari Games compilation for the Switch. WB Games last revisited those retro franchises for some Lego game in 2012.

That and Rare Replay. Once those are on the Switch, then pretty much all my retro needs will be met.

Re: Talking Point: 5 Reasons That Nintendo Switch Is Still A Hot Product

I love my Switch. I'm a Switch only gamer and I have more than enough to play for the near future. The variety of games on the console is amazing. It's my favorite console of all time. It got me back into gaming after quitting for a few years. I just want a more powerful Switch so moving forward we don't have anymore of this "it's only on Xbox/PS/PC" crap that sometimes still happens.
