@Ade117 Gaming is going down the same road as Hollywood more and more, so yes, expect fewer risks and newer titles and more nostalgia and reboots/remakes.
I realized this week that there are certain modern titles that are never coming to the Switch or if they do come, they will be significantly compromised or gimped, so I purchased an Xbox Series S. They are readily available and since I'm pretty much a digital only gamer now, I'm fine not having a disc drive.
I love the Switch and likely it'll go down as my favorite console of all time, but it's aging and more games are skipping it completely. It's still awesome to have for Nintendo first party games that I like (such as Metroid Dread and Kirby), indie titles and retro compilations, but I want to play Elden Ring. I want to play games like Sekiro, Psychonauts 2 and Yakuza, and I know these are never coming to the Switch.
@TKundNobody Get on your high horse all you want, dude. I subscribe to the service, but admit that there are still many NES and SNES that are never coming to it and there are no other ways to play them. Sorry, not sorry.
@Rykdrew To each their own, but the age of a game has nothing to do with my enjoyment of a game. There are many NES and SNES games I enjoy much more than some bloated modern day titles, and yes there are definitely some older games that I don't enjoy at all.
@MS7000 Third parties look at the sales figures that Nintendo exclusives get and when most of them don't get even close to that number, they question why they put in the effort at all.
@Madao It's going to mostly be first party titles and indies moving forward. You'll get a handful of third party games, but it will mostly be rereleases of older titles and very few brand new games.
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get a Series S. At this point, there are games that I want to play like Elden Ring that I know are never coming to the Switch. I don't need a full blown PS5 or Series X (and you can't find them anyways), but plenty of Series S consoles around and I think I'm going to pick one up soon.
@DK-Fan After Nintendo's monopolistic practices with the NES, many of the third parties wanted nothing to do with them again. Trip Hawkins basically laughed off Nintendo when they asked EA to develop for the NES, and even when EA made games for the Super NES, they brought a lot more content over to the Genesis. Going cartridge based burned off a lot of support with former strong third party developers like Square. And then going "casual centric" with the Wii. Despite the Switch potentially becoming the best selling console of all time, to them it's still "oh, kiddie friendly Nintendo."
I know there are a lot of people that love the casual stuff that Nintendo puts out like WarioWare, Switch Sports and this, but I'm about as interested in it as I'm interested in a root canal.
You know what? Until Nintendo provides a reasonable, legal way for us to purchase their legacy content, I will continue to download roms. No, a half-baked online service doesn't cut it. A true virtual console backlog that allows us to purchase and download games, with ALL the titles from NES onward, that is transferable to new consoles so we don't have to keep buying them over and over again. Basically an iTunes for Nintendo. It would print money.
Now that you can play the arcade version of Final Fight on either the Capcom beat 'em up bundle or Arcade Stadium, there is very little reason to ever return to the flawed Super NES version.
Finally found an emulator that plays MAME on my Mac, so got myself 50 some arcade games that are still not on the Switch and will be playing those (Tapper, Sinistar, QBert, Paperboy, etc.)
With the first Genesis mini, the Sega Genesis collection and now Genesis Switch Online, you basically have no excuse to not be able to play Genesis games.
Nintendo will do its own direct at some point in the next three weeks. Most of the games announced at Summer Games Fest will likely be next gen only (PS5 and Xbox Series X).
@joey302 Moon Patrol you can find on Arcade Archives (since it's technically a Irem game that was distributed by Williams), but yes to all the others. I would add Marble Madness, NARC and Rampage to that list you created.
Also, we just now need a Midway/Williams/Atari Games compilation for the Switch, and then I pretty much have all the 80s/90s arcade games I'd want on this console.
No Ms. Pac Man, no dice. Already have Pac Man and Super Pac Man. Just need Ms. Pac Man to complete the trilogy. All the other games have no appeal to me at all.
@CactusMan PBandSmelly doesn't have to do a damn thing except be themselves. Take your religious quackery and shove it (and I say that as a born and raised, went to Catholic schools, and now lapsed, non-religious Catholic)
I'm still amazed we live in a time where games like DOOM, Skyrim, GTA Trilogy, Witcher 3 and now No Man Sky are all playable on a Nintendo console. What a time we live in.
I just want a way to filter all the garbage games that get released every day. Just give me the heavy hitters. Good indie titles, good third party games, and of course the first party games. There's a ton of great, great games on the Switch, but with the way recent releases get pushed to the top, many of them are lost in the fray after a few days.
I remember when EA was the company that made groundbreaking games that emphasized the greatness of their designers. Now it's a joke of a company that is a shell of its former self. I'd be in favor of Trip Hawkins buying back the company, taking it private and refocusing the mission back to game designers making unique, wonderful games like they used to do.
@the_beaver Eastward is a nice hybrid of Earthbound, Secret of Mana and StarTropics. I enjoyed it, but it's a slow game in that there is A LOT of dialog and cut scenes. If you don't mind slow games like that, you'll like it. The art style is gorgeous.
Disco Elysium is a very different, unique game. I don't play many point and click games, but I enjoyed the mystery solving, the different directions you can take in the game with your character, and the very strong writing in the game. It touches on a lot of different themes.
Old school black box NES Pro Wrestling. I was surprised at how good of a wrestling game that was, especially in comparison to the other wrestling games that came to the console. Getting to the Great Puma and taking him down was a true badge of honor.
Minecraft prints money. And it's the perfect model, because as kids age out of it, new kids pick up and enjoy it, and that keeps going on and on. I also appreciate Microsoft allowing it to be platform agnostic.

It was ok. Some good stuff shown.

Re: Feature: How Video Games Can Be Brilliant For Your Mental Health
Video games help with problem solving, hand-eye coordination and they are just plain fun.
I look at adults that still complain about them, and they are the same ones who bing watch TV shows or spend hours on social media.
Everything in moderation.
