Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Summer Game Fest 2022 Opening Showcase?

It was ok. Some good stuff shown.

I realized this week that there are certain modern titles that are never coming to the Switch or if they do come, they will be significantly compromised or gimped, so I purchased an Xbox Series S. They are readily available and since I'm pretty much a digital only gamer now, I'm fine not having a disc drive.

I love the Switch and likely it'll go down as my favorite console of all time, but it's aging and more games are skipping it completely. It's still awesome to have for Nintendo first party games that I like (such as Metroid Dread and Kirby), indie titles and retro compilations, but I want to play Elden Ring. I want to play games like Sekiro, Psychonauts 2 and Yakuza, and I know these are never coming to the Switch.

@DK-Fan After Nintendo's monopolistic practices with the NES, many of the third parties wanted nothing to do with them again. Trip Hawkins basically laughed off Nintendo when they asked EA to develop for the NES, and even when EA made games for the Super NES, they brought a lot more content over to the Genesis. Going cartridge based burned off a lot of support with former strong third party developers like Square. And then going "casual centric" with the Wii. Despite the Switch potentially becoming the best selling console of all time, to them it's still "oh, kiddie friendly Nintendo."

You know what? Until Nintendo provides a reasonable, legal way for us to purchase their legacy content, I will continue to download roms. No, a half-baked online service doesn't cut it. A true virtual console backlog that allows us to purchase and download games, with ALL the titles from NES onward, that is transferable to new consoles so we don't have to keep buying them over and over again. Basically an iTunes for Nintendo. It would print money.

I just want a way to filter all the garbage games that get released every day. Just give me the heavy hitters. Good indie titles, good third party games, and of course the first party games. There's a ton of great, great games on the Switch, but with the way recent releases get pushed to the top, many of them are lost in the fray after a few days.

Re: EA Reportedly Pursuing Sale Or Merger

I remember when EA was the company that made groundbreaking games that emphasized the greatness of their designers. Now it's a joke of a company that is a shell of its former self. I'd be in favor of Trip Hawkins buying back the company, taking it private and refocusing the mission back to game designers making unique, wonderful games like they used to do.

@the_beaver Eastward is a nice hybrid of Earthbound, Secret of Mana and StarTropics. I enjoyed it, but it's a slow game in that there is A LOT of dialog and cut scenes. If you don't mind slow games like that, you'll like it. The art style is gorgeous.

Disco Elysium is a very different, unique game. I don't play many point and click games, but I enjoyed the mystery solving, the different directions you can take in the game with your character, and the very strong writing in the game. It touches on a lot of different themes.
