@eltomo "Nothing really that new in the last 12 months."
Um, completely disagree. The Switch has released this year games like Metroid Dread (potentially GOTY), SMT V, No More Heroes III, Monster Hunter Rise, Bowser's Fury, Bravely Default II, Mario Golf, Warioware, Skyward Sword Remaster, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Disco Elysium, World War Z, Eastward, GTA trilogy (I know it's the whipping boy for review bombers, but I'm playing GTA III right now and having a great time), N64 Switch online and more.
I'd say this has been one of the better years for new games for the Switch.
PS5 and Xbox X/S needed another year or two before releasing. They have been by far the most underwhelming new console launches I've ever seen in my lifetime of gaming. Sure, there are some games on each that look fun (Ratchet & Clank/Returnal on PS5, Forza 5/Halo on Xbox X/S), but for the first year out, neither have been must buys. Top that off with the chip shortage leading to scarcity of available, and yeah, likely the worst console launch of my lifetime.
The Switch has such a solid game lineup right now, and while the tech is certainly quite outdated to the PS5/Xbox X/S specs, it's still rolling out solid titles. Metroid Dread is likely the best game released on ANY console this year, and next year Breath of the Wild 2, Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, 3-D Kirby and more show the hits are not slowing down at all.
I still don't think Switch overtakes the PS2 or DS for overall sales, but I think it will take third and finish around the 125-130 million overall lifetime sales.
Metroid Dread. The game is so addicting. Like, I just always have to do one more: one more boss fight, one more save point, one more item to collect. I think it's better than Super Metroid, which is fantastic, and I truly believe it's one of the best Switch games of all time.
Also playing Eastward and yes, even playing GTA trilogy, because I haven't experienced all the brokeness everyone else has.
@rockodoodle It surprises the heck out of me that the NFL has not pressured them to make a game for the Switch. The NFL is all about printing money and expanding their already expansive following. Putting an NFL game on the Switch would do just that.
Cool, but I'd really love a current gen NFL/College football game on the Switch. It's a complete farce that EA still won't put Madden on the console even though it's closing in on 100 million units sold.
@anzzjam Nintendo doesn't release as many games because they don't need to. Indie developers flock to the console and Nintendo has the best third party support they've had since the Super NES era.
@Moistnado Virtual Console was ditched because it wasn't bringing in enough revenue. Sega said in an interview that they hated it and thought it cost them more than what they were getting in return. Plus, the games themselves were overpriced. The Switch online service, combined with Arcade Archives, Sega Ages and a slew of retro collections, more than make up for the need for Virtual Console.
I thought for sure after the Wii U that Nintendo would drop hardware and go full software. They were really hurting at that point and it seemed like it was a two horse race with Sony and Microsoft (PC as well).
The Switch was so innovative and cutting edge, even though it was built on aging technology. The fact that you could play console quality games at home or on the go seamlessly is still so ground breaking. On top of that, Nintendo figured out a way to appeal to casual gamers, Nintendo fans, as well as dedicated gamers as well, with such a diverse, strong lineup of titles from first party exclusives to third party ports to a whole slew of indie titles, as well as retro favorites. I get it that it has flaws, but even with the flaws, it's become my favorite console of all time.
I really, really hope Nintendo keeps the concept going. Make the Switch 2 fully compatible with older Switch games and update the specs. You have a winner if you do that.
I did a play through with Sora this morning and afterwards was told that all the fighters have now been unlocked. It was a surreal feeling. I'm not the biggest Smash fan out there, but I do like it a lot, and the cross over element of it is a true testament to video game history and likely something we'll never see again.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai hangs it up after this. It's going to be very hard to top Ultimate.
Oh heck yeah! A series that I never thought would hit a Nintendo console is getting my support 100%. I just hope we get all the music. That was one of my favorite parts of the game.
Square Enix is leaving money on the table by not putting out versions of FFI-FFVI, Chrono Trigger and Kingdom Hearts on the Switch. Why are they so damn dumb?
Just put the damn games out. Cloud games suck. I play them and they are fine, but it's not what I want to play on my Switch. I'd pick up Stadia if that's how I want to game.
I would pay $50 if I knew every month I was getting new games (no more of this drip feed crap), if I had COMPLETE or near COMPLETE access of the entire NES and SNES lineup, had access to a large number of N64 games, and access to games to other consoles (Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, DS, Genesis).
Seeing that I'm not a fan of AC, plus N64 was one of the my least favorite consoles from Nintendo, I will likely pass on this.
Just picked up Metroid Dread, going to pick up this, going to pick up SMT V, going to pick up GTA Trilogy.... might have to pick up another job with all these games I'm picking up, haha.
Look, argue if you will that Nintendo is ridiculous when it comes to piracy of old NES/SNES games that will never come to the Switch in either a compilation or online service. That I won't pushback on.
However, doing it in a brand new release of a console still very much alive, then I have a problem.
Kotaku, which already drives me crazy with their overly extreme left political views shoved into video game articles, should be ashamed of themselves that they published this piece of garbage. I hope Nintendo takes them to task for it.
I really just want a Switch with better frame rates and performance. I love my Switch and play it all the time, but it's old processor is really starting to show its age. If the next thing Nintendo releases is the new console, I hope it's basically Switch 2, that is 100% fully backwards compatible with old Switch software.
As for Nintendolife giving Nintendo titles "only high scores," that is false. I've been a follower of this website for a long time, and there have been plenty of Nintendo titles that scored average or mediocre. Mario Golf: Super Rush, a game that just came out, got a pretty average score. Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey deserved their extremely high scores. They are two of the greatest games not just on the Switch, but in video gaming overall. There is always subjectivity to reviews, as one person's opinion can be different for another's.
The cloud games on Switch are actually not all that bad. I've played both Control and Hitman 3 on Switch and found both very fun. While I still prefer physical or digital versions of games, having the cloud as an option to bring over some of the more intensive games is not a bad option.

Re: Nintendo Switch Is The UK's Most Wanted Black Friday Tech Deal, Apparently
Now that you can play 90% or so of the GamePass games on PC, there really is no selling point to picking up an Xbox.

Re: Sam & Max: Beyond Time And Space Remastered Is Heading To Switch
Cool! Now let's get Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island over to the Switch.
Re: Metroid Dread In The Running With The Game Awards GOTY Nomination
Monster Hunter Rise and Forza 5 are both noticeable snubs for GOTY.
It would be cool for Metroid Dread to win, but I have a hunch it's likely going to be Deathloop or RE Village.
Not that I care that much about the Games Awards anyways. They are turning into a bunch of Hollywood phony baloney.
Re: Review: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition - Three Classics In One Shocking Package
I've been playing it. It's good. It's not great, but it's good. 4 out of 10? I'd say 7 out of 10.
Re: Nintendo Download: 11th November (North America)
Three pretty big releases all on one day.
Re: Video: Everyone Should Play Sin & Punishment
Playing it on NSO and love it!
Re: Review: Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cloud Version - A Disastrous Way To Play A Great Game
Time for a more powerful Switch. Cloud gaming is not the answer to keeping up with the next gen. Get the Switch 2 out soon.

Now we just need Fallout, Madden, NHL, Call of Duty, Metal Gear Solid, and Mass Effect.

So. Many. Games.
Re: Sky Kid Is The Next HAMSTER Arcade Archives Release, Out This Week
It's fine... I have it on the Namco Museum Collection.
All I'm really hoping for now is Galaxian, Pole Position and some of the 90s games from Namco like Time Crisis and Tekkan.

Re: Out Now: Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cloud Version Is Out, But Try The Demo First
I still need to finish Ultimate Alliance 3.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 13.1.0 Is Now Live - Adds The Switch Online Expansion Pack
Well, Nintendo gave me the nickel discount for the Expansion pass. The graphics look good on the N64 games and the Genesis games as well.
Re: Tetris 99 Is Hosting A Metroid Dread Crossover Event This Weekend
Loved Tetris 99, but really hard to return to it after the greatness that is Tetris Effect.
Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?
Any idea when this is launching today? I've checked my Switch a few times during breaks at work and it still seems like it hasn't launched yet.

If they can get this game on a cartridge, no excuse to not get Kingdom Hearts on a cartridge.

Re: Metroid Dread, Zelda, Pokémon And Mario All Nominated In Golden Joystick Awards 2021

Re: Feature: 8 Games That Missed Nintendo Hardware
No Madden or Call of Duty on the Switch. EA and Activision must not like money.
Re: Arcade Archives Publisher Hamster Has Filed A Trademark For 'Console Archives'
Still a lot of great arcade games to bring over. The whole Midway/Williams library.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Dying Light On Switch
With all the games I want to play/buy right now, this will probably have to wait, but still looks rather impressive.
Re: Talking Point: Do You Have A 'Way' You Play Certain Switch Games?
Usually on the big TV on weekends, and handheld when my wife wants to use the TV at night.

Metroid Dread, Disco Elysium, SMT V and this. Good God my wallet is going to cry.
