Re: Nintendo Switch Is The UK's Most Wanted Black Friday Tech Deal, Apparently

@eltomo "Nothing really that new in the last 12 months."

Um, completely disagree. The Switch has released this year games like Metroid Dread (potentially GOTY), SMT V, No More Heroes III, Monster Hunter Rise, Bowser's Fury, Bravely Default II, Mario Golf, Warioware, Skyward Sword Remaster, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Disco Elysium, World War Z, Eastward, GTA trilogy (I know it's the whipping boy for review bombers, but I'm playing GTA III right now and having a great time), N64 Switch online and more.

I'd say this has been one of the better years for new games for the Switch.

PS5 and Xbox X/S needed another year or two before releasing. They have been by far the most underwhelming new console launches I've ever seen in my lifetime of gaming. Sure, there are some games on each that look fun (Ratchet & Clank/Returnal on PS5, Forza 5/Halo on Xbox X/S), but for the first year out, neither have been must buys. Top that off with the chip shortage leading to scarcity of available, and yeah, likely the worst console launch of my lifetime.

The Switch has such a solid game lineup right now, and while the tech is certainly quite outdated to the PS5/Xbox X/S specs, it's still rolling out solid titles. Metroid Dread is likely the best game released on ANY console this year, and next year Breath of the Wild 2, Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, 3-D Kirby and more show the hits are not slowing down at all.

I still don't think Switch overtakes the PS2 or DS for overall sales, but I think it will take third and finish around the 125-130 million overall lifetime sales.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 20th)

Metroid Dread. The game is so addicting. Like, I just always have to do one more: one more boss fight, one more save point, one more item to collect. I think it's better than Super Metroid, which is fantastic, and I truly believe it's one of the best Switch games of all time.

Also playing Eastward and yes, even playing GTA trilogy, because I haven't experienced all the brokeness everyone else has.

Happy gaming friends!

Re: Talking Point: Five Years On From The Frenzy Of 'NX' Becoming The Switch

@Moistnado Virtual Console was ditched because it wasn't bringing in enough revenue. Sega said in an interview that they hated it and thought it cost them more than what they were getting in return. Plus, the games themselves were overpriced. The Switch online service, combined with Arcade Archives, Sega Ages and a slew of retro collections, more than make up for the need for Virtual Console.

I thought for sure after the Wii U that Nintendo would drop hardware and go full software. They were really hurting at that point and it seemed like it was a two horse race with Sony and Microsoft (PC as well).

The Switch was so innovative and cutting edge, even though it was built on aging technology. The fact that you could play console quality games at home or on the go seamlessly is still so ground breaking. On top of that, Nintendo figured out a way to appeal to casual gamers, Nintendo fans, as well as dedicated gamers as well, with such a diverse, strong lineup of titles from first party exclusives to third party ports to a whole slew of indie titles, as well as retro favorites. I get it that it has flaws, but even with the flaws, it's become my favorite console of all time.

I really, really hope Nintendo keeps the concept going. Make the Switch 2 fully compatible with older Switch games and update the specs. You have a winner if you do that.

Re: Random: Now That Smash Is Complete, Sakurai Doesn't Have To Worry About What He Shares On Social Media

I did a play through with Sora this morning and afterwards was told that all the fighters have now been unlocked. It was a surreal feeling. I'm not the biggest Smash fan out there, but I do like it a lot, and the cross over element of it is a true testament to video game history and likely something we'll never see again.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai hangs it up after this. It's going to be very hard to top Ultimate.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

kingbk

Wow, that pricing hike is absurd.

I would pay $50 if I knew every month I was getting new games (no more of this drip feed crap), if I had COMPLETE or near COMPLETE access of the entire NES and SNES lineup, had access to a large number of N64 games, and access to games to other consoles (Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, DS, Genesis).

Seeing that I'm not a fan of AC, plus N64 was one of the my least favorite consoles from Nintendo, I will likely pass on this.

Re: Nintendo's Switch Exclusive Metroid Dread Is Already Being Emulated On PC

kingbk

Look, argue if you will that Nintendo is ridiculous when it comes to piracy of old NES/SNES games that will never come to the Switch in either a compilation or online service. That I won't pushback on.

However, doing it in a brand new release of a console still very much alive, then I have a problem.

Kotaku, which already drives me crazy with their overly extreme left political views shoved into video game articles, should be ashamed of themselves that they published this piece of garbage. I hope Nintendo takes them to task for it.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch OLED - The Screen's The Star

kingbk

I really just want a Switch with better frame rates and performance. I love my Switch and play it all the time, but it's old processor is really starting to show its age. If the next thing Nintendo releases is the new console, I hope it's basically Switch 2, that is 100% fully backwards compatible with old Switch software.

Re: Review: Metroid Dread - Quite Possibly The Best Metroid Game Ever Made

kingbk

As for Nintendolife giving Nintendo titles "only high scores," that is false. I've been a follower of this website for a long time, and there have been plenty of Nintendo titles that scored average or mediocre. Mario Golf: Super Rush, a game that just came out, got a pretty average score. Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey deserved their extremely high scores. They are two of the greatest games not just on the Switch, but in video gaming overall. There is always subjectivity to reviews, as one person's opinion can be different for another's.
