I keep checking the top 30 on the Switch when I boot up my console, and to keep seeing this disaster on it is quite disheartening.
And it's not just the fact that it's Cloud crap. It's that Kingdom Hearts in general is the most overrated popular series in modern gaming. I love Disney and they have some excellent video games like Ducktales, Castles of Illusions and Aladdin, and I love most FF games up to about 11, but the combination together never made sense to me. It just comes off like a bunch of button mashing with some extremely cheesy and convoluted storytelling. But if you love it, have at it.
I'd just love to hear something about Outer Wilds. Or House of the Dead. Or the supposed Batman Arkham collection. Or the supposed Alan Wake game coming to the Switch.
Fall Guys was a brief phenomenon in the heart of the pandemic when people needed a break from Animal Crossing. Cool that it's still coming, but I stopped caring long ago.
I love the Switch and think it's my favorite console of all time, but there have been many decisions with it that just leave me puzzled. This is one of them. Why, even after 100+ million units sold, is it so hard for certain games to come to the console in native form? Where's Madden? Where's COD? Where's this game? There are so many games that could come out for this console and for some reason or another never do, and I just don't get it.
I've been pretty content with the online service. For the $50ish dollars I spent for the yearly subscription, I'm playing a lot of the games on the service. I know some want the Virtual Console back, but that got expensive very quickly. Now for about $4.20 a month, I have access to a wide variety of games across a number of solid consoles.
I do wish they would improve voice chat (ditch the app, make it native) and having party chat with your friends, but eh... oh well.
Also, clean up the eShop. So many low budget garbage titles getting released every day and burying the solid titles, hiding them from gamers.
I'm just bored of these kind of games. We sure get a whole heck of a lot of them on the Switch, but it's all kind of the same thing: button mashing through endless enemies over and over again. I got Persona 5 Strikers to fill my Persona fix, but eventually like Age of Calamity, I just got bored of the endless fights.
Played and finished this on the SNES Classic a couple years ago, but still wonderful now to have it on the Switch. I'm currently playing Eastward on the Switch, which takes a lot of inspiration from this game (as well as Zelda, Secret of Mana, and StarTropics).
@AW1Long If they are smart, they treat it like a cell phone. Beef up the specs, make it fully backwards compatible, and come out with a shiny new model every 5-7 years.
Hopefully a couple of drops happen tomorrow, like Outer Wilds, House of the Dead or maybe Fall Guys, since these were announced last year and still haven't arrived yet.
Would love to hear of one "impossible" third party AAA surprise game coming to the Switch natively, not cloud version.
We truly need a modern day NFL/college football game on the Switch. These retro games are fun and all, but it's pathetic the Switch has sold over 103 million units and we still don't have one modern day football game. That and NHL hockey are the only sports still missing on this console. The NFL needs to pressure EA to make a Switch version of Madden.
@Medic_Alert and @nowthisisepic, thank you! That helps. There are so many games on the Switch and so many great ones, but it's so annoying because everyday about 5-10 shovelware/low budget crap titles gets released and because of that, decent new good releases get pushed down and are much harder to find unless they are a top seller. Like seriously, if the eShop had filters and brought back that charming Wii shop music while you browse, it would be such a better experience. At this point, I have to look on sites like Nintendolife , or SwitchUp on YouTube, to figure out what good games are out that got buried by numerous garbage titles coming out every week, pushing them out of sight.
I wish there was a way in the eShop to hide all the garbage discount/shovelware releases so I could see some of the great games. Too many get buried quickly.
13 years at one company in this day and age is a long time. Heck, 3 years these days is considered a long tenure. Sometimes it's just time to try something new.
@Caryslan I'd love a TG-16 collection, like we have the Genesis collection or all the Neo Geo games via Arcade Archives on the Switch. I have a mini, but it would be more convenient to be able to play those games on my Switch and not hook up the mini when I'm jonesing for Bonk or another TG-16 game.
I've gone pretty much digital with the Switch. I've got a couple of physical games but I prefer the convenience and ease of digital. Still, it's cool that Nintendo still does a lot when it comes to physical gaming, as PlayStation and Xbox do more and more to phase that out of their consoles.
The NSO has gotten better and better, at least for me. I'm playing the N64 app almost every day. I still wish we could have better systems for voice chat or getting friends for games, but overall I think it's great.
The eShop I wish did a better job letting you find the good games to play. Letting new titles or best sellers be first on the list makes it so many great new titles get lost in the sea of low budget crude that gets released every day. SwitchUp on YouTube has helped me find good titles to play.
Still waiting on Outer Wilds, Fall Guys, and House of the Dead. But then again, I have so many games to play who knows when I'll ever get to them. I'm happy we keep getting titles, but those that need a new game every week, how do you have that much time to play them all? LOL.
The big difference with the Switch and the Wii is that the Wii started out very, very strong, but then dropped like a rock and sold anemically after a few years. The Switch has been a constantly strong seller from the beginning.
Also, the Switch is going to end up winning the generation against PS4 and Xbox One. Blows my mind.
Nintendo needs to treat the Switch like a cell phone. Don't reinvent the wheel with your next console, but keep the Switch aspect, upgrade the specs, allow old software to continue working, and keep doing that indefinitely.
My favorite console of all time. The sheer variety and depth of the gaming lineup is outstanding. It got me back into gaming after stopping for a few years.
@Tandy255 Thank you for the clarification. All I know is the original Ms. Pac-Man was created by Midway, not Namco, who has created all the other Pac-Man games. I guess at some point, Namco must have reacquired the rights to the game and then at some point they sold the rights to AtGames, which is why it's never included on any Pac-Man compilations or anything like Arcade Archives.
@a1904 Unlimited PTO is a scam. That lets the company off the hook to pay you out if you were to leave for another job. It also makes it harder for people to take time off because there is no parameter of how much times you've used and how much you have left, which makes people confused.
@NatiaAdamo Ms. Pac-Man is not a Bandai-Namco title. It was created by Midway who I believe sold the rights to it to AtGames, who, yes, is sitting on it and not doing much with it.
I've been watching some reruns of Starcade now that they are back on the new G4 and that still remains the best video game based game show in history. Nick Arcade and Video Power don't hold a candle to it. But anyways, it reminded me that there are still so many arcade games that have yet to hit the Switch, and I say that impressed with the number of arcade games that are currently on the Switch.
Nintendo I'm sure hears offers EVERY DAY to sell. Their IPs are the crown jewels of video games. Heck, I'm sure Disney has made an overture or two to Nintendo. Mario would fit right next to Mickey Mouse, Luke Skywalker, Captain America and Kermit the Frog in their cast of characters.
At the current rate of microtransactions, endless DLC, loot boxes, NFTs, surprise mechanics, games as a service that are taking over games, the Switch at this point is going to be my last console purchase unless things drastically change.
I just really want Outer Wilds from these guys on the Switch. Was suppose to release a while ago and now it's almost been a year since the announcement. Where is it?
Cloud gaming in and of itself is not a bad thing. I tried it out with Stadia and could see the appeal. If you don't want to fork out the money for a console and want something that is easy to plug and play, cloud gaming has some incentive for that reason. I also tried Control on Switch and it played fine. I noticed at times lag, but it never was game breaking.
Having said that, I do find it to be a very lazy cop-out when games that can run natively on the Switch are only brought over via the Cloud. That's the case with Kingdom Hearts. There is no reason this isn't running natively on the Switch, with perhaps the lone exception being the third title, which is a little more graphically intensive. Part of the appeal of the Switch is the play anytime, anywhere aspect, and Cloud gaming completely defeats that purpose.
Also, just my own personal opinion, but Kingdom Hearts is the most overrated video game series. Once the appeal of Disney and Final Fantasy characters together in a game wears off, you are left with a button mashing mess and a convoluted story line. I just never liked the games all that much.
@BloodNinja I don't notice "glaring performance issues."
I get it, some people don't like the online app because it's not Virtual Console, or it's not the exact performance of the consoles it emulates, or it doesn't offer enough games, or it's too much money.
For me, it is worth the money because I'm playing a ton of games off of it, the games for me are more than playable, and honestly I'm in favor of the online subscription vs. Virtual Console model. VC got very expensive very quickly. Here, you get so many games for either $20 or $50 a month, depending on what service you get.
If people don't want the service or don't like the service, fine. Is the service perfect? No. There should be many more NES and SNES games, for starters. And yes, things like being able to message friends and voice chat should be things by now. That Nintendo requires a cell phone app for chatting is nuts.
1. Picking up Ultraman as one of my first titles when I got the Super Nintendo. I played that game about three times before I put it away, never to play it again. Should have gotten Pilotwings or UN Squadron instead.
2. Getting the Virtual Boy. That thing was an uncomfortable headache inducing nightmare.
3. Skipping out on the Gamecube. By the time it came out, I was in college and decided I had "outgrown" Nintendo products, so I got a PlayStation 2. While I had a lot of fun with the PS2, I remember going to a friend's house when I was home over summer vacation and playing the Gamecube. It was such a fun console and I was sad that I skipped over it.
4. Buying the Wii. Probably my least favorite Nintendo console. Played it mainly for Wii Sports when it first came out, but that lost interest with my friends after about a month. Liked Mario Galaxy, but dreaded playing it with force motion controls (thankfully got to play it with regular control on Switch and had a great time). Virtual Console was cool initially, but the "wow, older games on a newer console!" effect wore off over time. I had no plans on getting a Wii U, but I won it at a work event and liked it much, much more than the Wii (even though it sold far fewer systems).
