I picked up an Xbox Series S a few weeks ago and have been very happy with it. It allows me to play certain games that I know are never coming to the Switch like Elden Ring and Psychonauts 2. Having said that, I find that I still prefer the Switch version of a game if it's an option.
All the crossovers between Nintendo and other companies... that's how you can tell the Switch is a success. We haven't seen crossovers like this since the NES/SNES days.
Tempted. It's been a while since I've completed Cuphead and I feel I'd be out of practice on this, but I loved this game. The animation is just fantastic and it runs so well on the Switch. I'll likely pick it up, die a thousand times, curse to the moons, and still have a blast. Heck, that's exactly what I'm experiencing right now with Elden Ring, haha.
8.5. Overall good, but the high number of Warriors type of games (please for the love of God give these a rest) and high number of JRPGs at the expense of other genres (sports, FPS) is starting to bother me a little.
Probably won't get the post 1984 Atari split arcade titles like Paperboy, Gauntlet, Marble Madness, Roadblasters, etc. Those are the Atari games I like the most, along with the early arcade games like Asteroids, Centipede, Tempest, Crystal Castles, etc.
Very Japan influenced Direct, which is not surprising, as Nintendo is a Japanese company and the Switch continues to dominate there. It just would have been nice to have a couple more Western style announcements, like Batman: Arkham Collection.
@theoryofeverywhere If developers put in the time and effort (like they did with DOOM 2016 and Witcher 3), I will reward them. Hybrid portability rocks when done properly.
@AzzyC I get some of your grips, but I don't think Kirby was "underwhelming" at all. It was a great game. Not perfect by any means, but a solid game overall.
I'm beyond sick and tired of Warriors type games. I'd be perfectly fine if they went on a hiatus from releasing new ones for a while.
RPGs are fun, but so time consuming that I don't have the time for them. There are a ton of them on the Switch. Sometimes it seems to the determent of other genres.
I play a lot of third party and independent games on my Switch, so I guess I feel I have plenty to play.
I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10. Pretty solid overall. Love that Portal shadow dropped and I picked it up. Persona 5 Royal is a big one. Only one "cloud version" game and it was one we knew from a while ago, so yay! Maybe we are done with these dreaded versions. Still would have liked to have heard something about Outer Wilds (is it still coming or is it dead?) and Batman: Arkham Collection, but I'll give it an 8.5 out of 10.
This actually is another "impossible major third party" Switch game that, like DOOM 2016 and Witcher 3, comes off looking really good. I have so much respect for developers who take the time and put out a really good product for the Switch. If hybrid portability is an option and it runs well (doesn't have to be perfect), I will always favor the Switch version. Well done!
Personally, I love when big third party "impossible" titles come to the Switch. DOOM 2016 and The Witcher 3 are two of my favorite games not just on the console, but maybe of all time.
@imogenpeach I hope you enjoy Spiritfarer! I bought it a while ago and just started it finally a few weeks ago. A really, really good game, great lessons about living life to the fullest and making peace with death.
Elden Ring and Psychonauts 2 on my new Series S. I've had it for two weeks now and absolutely love it. There are just some awesome games that are never coming to the Switch that I wanted to play.
On the Switch, Spiritfarer and finishing up Shredder's Revenge.
I think I've passed the time of being interested in mini consoles. I got the ones I wanted, played them, and now they sit on my shelf of my house. The first Genesis mini had the games I wanted and this one doesn't seem to have enough to get yet another one.
I will probably pick this up out of sheer curiosity. When Switch does a great port of a huge game like it has done with Witcher 3 and DOOM 2016/DOOM Eternal, then I will always lean towards hybrid portability.
I'm happy for those who love Xenoblade games. It seems like Nintendo is really investing into that series and Fire Emblem. I'd love Nintendo to start looking into some other IPs, as while these are good series, they aren't two of my favorites. Too time consuming, and there are other time consuming games I want to give my attention to at this time like Elden Ring. There are so many IPs that get ignored. And please give the Warriors game concept a rest for a while after this one.
Way too little way too late. This should have been on a Switch ages ago. I'll likely do what I did with Among Us: play it once to say I played it, then delete it from my Switch to never play it again.
It's a fun game, but the lack of content and almost no single player modes makes it one of those games that you'll get bored of after about 3 hours. Definitely not worth $60 at this point.
I love old Nintendo stuff, but the slow trickle of material is just asinine at this point. Xbox Game Pass has such a wide selection of both old AND new games that I don't understand why Nintendo can't do a similar model with all of their IPs. Their online service could be so much better than it is right now.
Tetris might just be the greatest game of all time. No matter what version it is, I will play it over and over and over again, and never get tired of it.
@PepperMintRex We haven't had a Switch game announced as a cloud game for a few months now. They might have tried it out, seen it was a failure, and now game developers aren't doing it anymore. Or we're just in a quiet time right now where there isn't much coming out cloud version and 10 new games that are cloud versions are announced at the next Direct. Who knows, I hope the cloud crap is over.
I've enjoyed the Atari Flashback collection on Switch. I'm surprised at how often I revisit it. Games like Centipede, Asteroids, Tempest, Millepede and Crystal Castles are still a blast even to this day.
It's too bad this collection will likely not feature the mid 80s Atari IPs like Marble Madness, Paperboy, Gauntlet and the like, since those came out after the company split up.
@alexybubble Yeah, it would be nice for AA to branch out and start putting some of the Atari, Williams/Bally/Midway, and Sega games on the platform. Some of the Sega games are available via Sega Ages, but we're missing games arcade classics like Zaxxon, Pengo, Buck Rogers, Star Trek, etc.
I bought an Xbox Series S a few days ago and I'm now playing Elden Ring. Games like Elden Ring, Yakuza, Sekiro are never coming to Switch. And more and more modern games will not come to the Switch as the technology gap increases between Switch and Xbox Series X-S and PS5. I love the Switch, but Nintendo needs to seriously think about a new one with updated specs.
I'm happy there is a retro mode so you can play the arcade version. I've been waiting for that to come to Arcade Archives, so at least this scratches that itch. I don't need all the other games, so I wish there was a way just to get the arcade archives version, but this appears to be the way to get it, so as long as it's not insanely expensive, I will likely pick it up.
@QueenKittenWrite I don't "hate" Nintendo. The Switch actually is my favorite console, perhaps of all time. But the Switch hardware is aging badly, and the overall recent output of games, sans Metroid Dread and Kirby, has been underwhelming. A lot of games releasing unfinished like Mario Strikers, games being released as cloud versions only, or just an overall decline of third party output. And this trend will only continue as the technology gap grows between the Switch and PS5/Xbox S-X.
@Benjinat Nintendo needs new hardware. Until then, most of the good new stuff is not going to the Switch, or it's coming in a watered down/gimped/cloud only format.
One of the things that is great about the Nintendo Switch is the variety. You have games like Mario next to games like DOOM next to games like WarioWare and beyond. I'm happy there are good wholesome games for parents looking for things for their kids to enjoy.
I'll stick to E3. The Geoffest is nothing more than a Hollywood schmooze fest with generic dude bro games like COD being shown. The best game shown yesterday was Plucky Squire, and that was not shown at Geoffest.

Shadow drop Outer Wilds, please. I was waiting for it to come to Switch to play it, but if it continues to be delayed, I'll just get it on Game Pass.
Re: Poll: What Are You Hoping To See In The Nintendo Direct Mini?
1-2 "impossible" major third party titles coming to the Switch that run natively, not cloud.

This is going to be par for the course for most Switch releases moving forward until we get updated hardware.

Heck, it struggles to run freakin' Fall Guys, for chrissakes.
