@nab1
Yeah, she can change up the patterns, but she's usually passive, allowing you to make short work of her, and the other guy blocks shots? Didn't notice, he didn't do much, and the blue lines were easy enough to avoid.

You have plenty of time to relax against those two, but pyro keeps the pressure on.

Re: Review: Mighty No. 9 (Wii U)

khaosklub

Also, the localization is terrible, the manual is full of typos, particularly "ther", which appears a lot instead of the, he, her, and there. Really weird consistant typo.

Also, Raychel is referred to as both she/her and he...so I'm kinda confused

Re: Review: Mighty No. 9 (Wii U)

khaosklub

@nab1
Pyro isn't all that easy still. Like I said before, the three are telegraphed, but they aren't all too differently telegraphed, so it's easy to slip up, and one has to react properly.

He's simple enough, but definitely not extremely easy.

I defeated brandish without dying once, and dyna managed to take 1 life away, but I'd say they're way easier. Pyro does take coordination and concentration. Dyna takes the right strategy to deal with her thingies, but brandish doesn't do much, you can easily react to whatever he does.

@BulkSlash
A good way to know the difficulty of a mega man game is with a buster only run with minimal support items. The hardest game is mega man 1, easiest on normal difficulty is mega man 8.

Considering how long the MN9 has been out, and how popular it is to hate on the game, it's not likely a recommended order exists, though that's part of the fun of a mega man game, like starting a puzzle, you want to find the mix of passability in both level and boss to start the pattern. I haven't had the chance to play as much as I'd like, but so far, I've found the sword guy to be the easiest, though N2 looks like the starting point.

I did start with N1 though, Cause I like his design, but he was so far the most challenging of the ones I've fought.

@Tempestryke
I never said you can't enjoy them, but the games aren't for you. They're for us.

I suppose a better way to put it is that they cater to me as opposed to you, but it doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

When the kickstarter began, many people got caught up in the hype and backed the game, then wanted the game to be more original, maybe a 3D adventure game, etc. I honestly think people just liked the character or something, but mega man games aren't for them, it's for me and my ilk. They are precisely about most of the complaints being levied against this game.

But still, it's not so much skill as it is replaying the game. I mean, the game is the same everytime, with minor variations on boss patterns. In the classic series, most bosses using weaknesses are dead in like 2 seconds, literally! I'm sure you can beat one of the games in under an hour. I mean, max, like 16 levels, min 10. Mega man 10 even has an "I cannot die" easy mode, where the challenge is actually trying to kill yourself before the boss door!

Re: Review: Mighty No. 9 (Wii U)

khaosklub

@kenrulei
You got lucky with X6 then, because if you face high max without the right weapon, or try to pass certain areas with the wrong armor and gear, you have no choice but to die.

That game had a lot of problems, even though I enjoy it, there are so many things wrong with X6, but that game gets better scores than mighty no. 9! The only thing more frustrating than facing high max with 9 lives and no meteor rain is flame hyenard!

@AVahne
People, especially fans, are rather divided on gunvolt, and the pc port was an absolute mess initially.

The only real distinction between the two games is that in gunvolt, it's almost impossible to die, and sometimes you become a god when you lose... so it's more accessible to the casual crowd

Re: Review: Mighty No. 9 (Wii U)

@BulkSlash
Pro-tip, just dash. You dodge the insta-kill move by just pressing one button.

He does 3 very easy to dodge highly telegraphed attacks, all of which are avoided with a single dash, one straight forward, one away from him, and one above him.

Mega man 2 is probably the 2nd hardest mega man game, with each game getting progressively easier. Don't believe me? Boot up mega man 2 and give quick man a try.

It probably only seems easy because you start with metal man, who is super easy, and his power let's you stop caring for the most part.

They didn't make the game difficult, just difficult to rush through

Re: Review: Mighty No. 9 (Wii U)

khaosklub

Considering all the comments on the mega man 7 review, the main complaint about mighty no. 9 is that it's a mega man game.

There's a reason capcom stopped making the games, most of you all DON'T LIKE MEGA MAN GAMES!

Oh, it does nothing new! Except the kickass dash mechanic! Just as innovatine as sliding, charge shot, and jet armor.

Oh, so many cheap deaths. Mega man 2 is highly regarded as the best of the series. Air man's stage, the little guys that come out of the drill heads tend to hit you when you jump, as do the birds with eggs, insta-death in a pit! Magnet blocks over magma? Fighting the dragon on 3 little blocks? Quick man's level? Gee, this game sucks as a mega man successor because it's exactly like every other mega man game ever! You let us slide and put instant death traps so we have to think before we leap? Mega man 3 stage revists were just spikes and bottomless pits, the level! But everyone has nostalgia glasses on remembering how the used game genie to beat the game and forgot that it was pretty much like this, always.

In mega man X3, bosses inconsistantly have instant death moves, but it's like everyone's favorite because all anyone can remember is playing as zero and wielding the Z saber!

The one gripe I do have to agree with is the performance. The slowdown coupled with slippery speed powerup are really annoying.

The point is that dashing is risky, and takes skill to use effectively. You also get double knockback when hit while dashing. Good players can dash a lot, non mega man X/zero/zx vets will fail and die a lot. If you cannot beat any mega man in under an hour, these kinds of games aren't for you.

Re: Review: Mega Man 7 (New 3DS / SNES)

khaosklub

@Gauchorino story and cutscenes a good mega man game does not make, especially a short 1 hour game where you cannot skip about 20 minutes of slow dialogue.

Gameboy games had the shop first, and 7 has one customization item!

Gameplay wise, it was slow and clunky

Re: Review: Mega Man 7 (New 3DS / SNES)

@Marce2240
Why on earth is 1 better than 10?
Most will place 2 or 3 at #1, I personally prefer 10, though 3 used to be my fav... but 1 greater than any other nes game? Why? 1 was horrible!

Re: Review: Mega Man 7 (New 3DS / SNES)

khaosklub

@ap0001
The ball mechanic was the best part of 8! Infinite jumps ftw!

Voice acting has no bearing on how fun the game is, 8 wasn't great, but it is fun.

7 was flawed for the artificial time lengthening. Every robot master is designed to stop the action and make you wait! Junk man's junk stops you, freeze man freezes you, spring man does a grab attack that takes waaay to long, shade man petrifies you, burst man traps you in a bubble, slash man jumps offscreen and drops goop on you that prevents all attacks, turbo man's fire makes you catch fire for a bit, and least of a bother is cloud man with temporary invulnerability while charging lightning bolts. Even the stages, like turbo man's is about falling down to redo the same part of the stage!

It has some super cool stuff, like the shop introduced in the gameboy games, secret battles and hidden powerups, but all in all, it's one of the weaker titles in the series.

I would actually prefer to replay X7 over 7. It wasn't perfect, but once you power up a bit, the game is much faster.

Re: Review: Mega Man 7 (New 3DS / SNES)

khaosklub

7 is considered one of the worst because while your speed and jump height are the same, the sprites are bigger.

The game is also elongated by unskippable cutscenes with super slow dialog and enemies with too much health or shields. The weapons are also pretty uninspired.

The final boss also has a huge difficulty spike.

It is simple the worst of the main series mega man game, with 2 generally being considered the best by fans.

The worst classic mega man game though is hands down mega man for gamegear.
Mega man 1 through 3 and 1 for the NES are also significantly worse than 7.

See, that's why mighty no 9 doesn't do well review wise, because the general public looks at mega man 10 as "meh".

To actual mega man fans, mega man 10 is the best of the best In the series. Very challenging, difficulty options, useful weapons, extra characters, challenge level, and bonus stages! But most people would rather play generic 3D adventure game with mega man skins.

We wanted a mega man game, that's what mighty no 9 is. You jump around, shoot things, fight 8 robot masters and get their weapons. Is it on par with mega man 10? Probably not, but at least as good as mega man 4.

Mega Man ZX and ZXA were great, scored well, didn't do so well sales wise.

Mega man X8 got a lower score than X6, which is kinda a broken game.

ign gives mega man 8 a 6. A 6! while 8 certainly wasn't my favorite, it was definitely better than 7, which got a 7, and was certainly fun. it was a solid working game with lots more content than previous mega man games.

I'll wait for reviews from actual mega man fans, because that's whom the game was for.

if you can't beat mega man 10 on hard mode buster only, then your opinion on this game means nothing to me.

Re: Round Up: First Mighty No. 9 Reviews Suggest The Wait Hasn't Been Worth It

as a mega man fan, I've learned to pretty much ignore review sites for anything mega man esque. even this site gave dark witch terrible reviews, but I love those games, which I consider better than gunman clive, which receives nothing but praise.

I find both games good, but enjoyed dark witch more.

game reviewers have historically given mega man games.
Azure striker gunvolt scored lower than MM9 and 10.

I've never disagreed with reviewers more than on games that are mega man esque. so many fan games and dedicated fans, but people reviewing it generally don't even like 2D platformers or games bereft of exposition. if the story isn't grandiose, why bother reviewing it?

Re: Writer Of Divisive New Mega Man Cartoon Asks Fans To Give It A Chance

@Assassinated
No, it's not mega man, it's a different story completely with the mega man name.

You want to make a mega man show? Then it's about a boy robot named rock.

You want to make a show about a kid named aki with a strange sidekick that comes out of his head and goes to school, you make a show not called mega man.

This just seems like they had an idea that didn't fly, so they use mega man to push it through.

Re: Free Rupees And Fairy Food On Offer To Celebrate Hyrule Warriors Legends DLC Launch

The 3ds version has no multiplayer, no boss smash animations, and looks worse graphically.

The adventure maps and bonus content is balanced in better, but balance is destroyed by "my fairy". By the way, use those shrooms to level up your fairy with a dark barrier. So broken!

Better graphics cost significantly more, and since many assets are reused, they can easily afford to charge less for the 3ds version.

The wiiU version made the 3ds version possible...

And the switching characters along with quick warping makes the game feel fresh. My fairy makes magic soooo desirable and young link is now super broken!

Re: Video: Fresh Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 Footage Is Here To Burn Your Eyeballs

@Warruz @AlexSora89 @DeathUriel

Azure striker is easy to complete, difficult to S+ rank. It's accessible while providing a challenge for experienced players.

There's even gear to make the game difficult oldskool style!

MMZ was tough, and even tougher to S rank, not very accessible for newbies. Z collection made it accessible to newbies.

Hard games usually don't sell well. People get games for that drug release in their brains. They want something they can win at. If you S+ rank everything, you get bragging rights! Do it with the hardmode gear, and you're amazing!

Also, better common sense, get more fun guns, don't have children!

I liked the level of control in yoshi story, and the 3 heart levwls could be challenging.

You could lick in literally any direction. I found yoshi's island to be annoying with baby mario.

Wooly world is too easy aside from the unlockable stages. You can literally flutter jump forever through most stages!

Wooly world though is my fav, with yoshi story second followed by yoshi for the gameboy.

Re: International Game Developers Association Issues Critical Statement Over Nintendo and Alison Rapp

people like to cry sexism because, let's face it, no one wants to lose their job, and it's an easy accusation.

no one can prove they're not sexist, and technically everyone is sexist, EVERYONE. But when you accuse someone of being sexist, they cannot prove they are not sexist. they can claim and try to reason it, but there can never be proof. You can prove someone is sexist. If they claim to be, or make any derogatory statement about opposite sex.

once the claim is laid, everyone will just scrutinize and see if someone the accused does can be seen as sexist. She was fired. Most HR people are women, right? so likely a woman fired her. but a woman can be sexist too I guess, against women.

it's a easy to throw accusation that can pick up traction and work. same with the racism card. Why do people not like obama? what? is it his policies? nope, it's always racism. what if it's a black man criticizing Obama? then he's racist against his own race. it's all just madness... madness that people accept these accusations and it ends all discourse!

Re: International Game Developers Association Issues Critical Statement Over Nintendo and Alison Rapp

khaosklub

I don't undrstand why people are making a big deal about it. When you work PR, it's public relations. You are there to make the company look good. Attracting hate doesn't make the company look good.

Nintendo isn't there to protect the PR staff, the PR staff is there for their skills in PUBLIC RELATIONS! No matter what anyone feels about this case, she was bad at her job. She didn't relate to the public well! If a PR person makes the company look bad, says controversial things, or brings negative attention, they get fired! Simple.

Second job is likely the way the actually competent lawyers and PR team are handling the situation!

It's not a social justice issue, it's not a gender issue, not an ethical issue. It comes down to a person failing at their job.

Re: Weirdness: You Can Now Play 3D NES Games In Your Web Browser

khaosklub

@amiiboacid
From what I read, they are not. You need to have the rom yourself, and even those who use and share illegal roms, even then whether it's right or wrong is questionable.

What if you bought the game? What if the game is no longer available? What if your copy was destroyed? What if the game isn't available in your country?

Sure, some people want something for nothing. Some want to hurt certain companies... but what if someone who uses emulators to try a game they wouldn't normally and then decides to go out and buy all the games in the series?

Stores put nintendo's games out in the open, but nintendo makes money off of them. What about buying used games. That hurts nintendo financially and is probably worse that piracy, because someone is profitting directly from nintendo's loss.

Furthermore, nintendo makes emulators, cheap emulators, but emulators none-the-less. Emulators are not wrong, just the purpose of it.

Copyright and IP laws are to protect profit. Fair use is for cases that are not preventing the IP holder from profitting on the IP aside from maybe pointing out that the product is bad. So the case about it being wrong is dependant on money in terms of IP. Some businesses benefit from piracy, like microsoft and adobe, because it gets their product into more hands, making it more dominant in the professional market.

Not so black and white. The key question is "why is it wrong?".

Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken

khaosklub

@Maxz @Monsti @Hey-Cha-La

First off, mastering a game's mechanics and becoming comfortable with a games controls are two distinct and different things.

F zero gx gave custom controls, so really no control issues.

The quality of controls is relative. Getting comfortable driving a car after an hour is normal. Taking an hour to get used to right turns vs left turns is not. The steering wheel is intuitive. Steering while driving backwards is bad, that's why many people don't do it well.

Classic star fox controls takes about 5 minutes to get accustomed to without instruction. Compared to that, 1 hour is bad.

That's a matter of intuitivity. Functionality is another thing entirely. While it may take longer to learn, it may be more effective rhan the classic method.

Both should really be included

Re: Weirdness: You Can Now Play 3D NES Games In Your Web Browser

khaosklub

@amiiboacid
And now it's not

Just like being legal doesn't make something right, it doesn't mean it's wrong either. Same with illegal.

Emulaters are neither good nor bad. Like guns, it's a tool, and can be used for good or bad. You can't condemn tool makers for what people do with them.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th March (North America)

khaosklub

@foodmetaphors @Clownshoes @KrakenSoup

Yoshi story is the superior game mechanics wise. You had more control, didn't have baby mario, could aim eggs as you wished. If you shot out your tongue forward and pressed up, it would sweep upwards. You could also crawl, sniff for secrets.

The problem with yoshi story was that it was an easy and somewhat pointless game. You eat 30 fruits to beat a level. Every level had 30 melons to seek out that gave you a higher score and hidden hearts that unlocked new levels.

The game was kinda easy and levels wrapped around with no end... just eat 30 fruit.

Wooly world dropped all yoshi's story's innovations to play more like yoshi's island, but without baby mario. It has multiplayer, collectables similar to epic yarn, and levels have a goal at the end.

While wooly world has collectables, they aren't really necessary. The point in levels in wooly world is to reach the end.

The point in yoshi story is to explore levels get high scores and unlock new levels by finding the hearts.
