Re: Wii U Named as "The Top Selling Item on Target.com" In Black Friday Sales

khaosklub

@wizzgamer
because, for example, I sell a playstation with 200 digital games on it, I can go online and desync the console from my account and buy another playstation and redownload the games, and the buyer lost all 200 games.

not sure how that works with nintendo or Xbox, but I'm sure Xbox is probably similar. That's like selling a PC with 5000 steam games installed... even if you give them your account information, it can be yanked away from them anyway... unless you change the recovery email to their email and you sign an agreement to hand over your account to them and have it notarized and such.

physical and digital games are still the same game. you pay to play the game, not to have a CD and box to collect dust, I can get those for like $1!

Japan has the vanilla ice cream, us gets chocolate, instead of chocolate ice cream. Some people are fine with just chocolate, still tastes of chocolate, but it's not the same.

Some people love chocolate ice cream and miss the days we got it. Some people have weird chocolate ice cream fetishes and want to do weird things with it behind closed doors. And a lot of people are upset about being denied chocolate ice cream, even if they don't even like it!

No, SJW is the term of the year in general 1st world life.

They're people who get offended by petty things portrayed in a fictional world.

It's a stereotype? Of what? What is the headdress a stereotype of? Native americans who wear headresses?

It's a cultural symbol? Well duh, that's kinda the point, how better to represent a culture than to use a cultural symbol? What's next? Using swasticas in games being offensive to nazis? Sure, you usually murder the lot of them, but their political/cultural symbol should not be what offends them.

And it's a religious symbol? So? Just because muslims have the world terrified to portray muhammad, and will shoot up the office of anyone who dares try doesn't mean every other religion should join the terrorism bandwagon (using fear to get your way) and object to having their religious symbols excluded from the media.

What's next? We remove the cross item from castlevania? It's petty to get offended by this! It's obviously not an offensive depiction. The harmful stereotype of native americans are that they are savages. Nothing of this girl shows that by having a headress! They can just associate her with a fictional tribe or make her non-native american. I don't actually know much of this game... but does it have an america? If not, then there can't be native americans by definition, and she can just represent an indiginous person whose people live off the land and kill things with feathers and wear it as clothing. Sure, tomahawk is a dead give-away that she's based off the "indian" stereotype, but that's just it, she's a character made to fit the stereotype.

Geez, so glad that SJW's suck at mega man games and will never play mega man 6, so they can't go crazy over tomahawk man.

it's the rule of extremes I suppose. the only people who will comment are people who either really hated it or really liked it... and it's very likely that no one really liked it... so the people who were okay with it have nothing to say, except maybe "meh".

but also... these reaction posts... are we all seeing the same comments? I see 2 negative comments... I mean, yeah, people is plural of person... but then again, there is persons? anyway, but 2 persons is hardly people.

Nintendo games have typically been drastically different with new console generations.

Mario kart Wii has so many more options than N64. Haven't played double dash, but I think you were limited to karts.

But that aside, yes, franchises tend to be samey to be safe choices for fans. But there are more than just franchise sequels on most consoles. WiiU has splatoon... that's about it. Maybe art academy.

Wii introduced games like wii sports, deblob, no more heroes, wii fit, murumasa, etc. It had a broad library. WiiU has mostly wii's greatest hits redone, a bit better than psbore and xbummer with their ports of exactly the same games from the previous gen.

The console itself doesn't seem to do anything new either. Same controllers, same apps, just that it has a tablet attached, at least it so appears to the average consumer.

@sillygostly
actually, the amiibo has a lot of functionality in the game.

you level it up using score from stages, leveling it up allows you to use super mode more times, and allows you access to a figure dispenser which has collectible figures, and allows you to unlock the last world.

it's kinda integral to the game...not sure why the stand alone amiibo took so long.

I wonder why star fox was delayed... couldn't have anything to do with complaints of subpar graphics could it? Then the complaints about delayed games...

Nintendo does listen... in their strange stubborn way... but we do effect games.

You're absolutely right though, it would be extra, and extra costs extra. Either extra time or less content storywise. Considering all the negative reactions to delayed games, we're more likely to get less content than wait longer.

But really, it should just be that the demands come with these considerations. You want quality games and extra content? Then we have to show that we can wait for content and perhaps would be willing to pay for it. Imagine gender swap dlc.

"the story would likely suffer... that or development time would be increased."
The full quote, covering the extra month[s] to get a better product.

"But it would either be less of a game, or a greater game experienced later."
I understand your point, but I still insist that these issues that developers face should be taken into consideration.

Same as how gamers gripe about subpar graphics, the complain about bland games which come directly as a result of graphical push. It is irresponsible for gamers to not consider how their demands effect things on the developer's end.

Re: Editorial: Linkle May be a Clunky Introduction For a 'Female Link', But Opens Up Interesting Possibilities

khaosklub

@LUIGITORNADO
Except it's not an argument against a female link, but one that suggests gender option would effect story.

Many cases in previous zelda games would have to be handled differently if gender option was included.

Just taking ocarina of time for example. Ruto would not give her engagement stone to a girl, at least not with the same intentions. Being a princess, expecting progeny, she would be expected to have a husband... and this being children's fantasy like you said, she probably would not have a consort.

Darunia might not call her brother... though I'm not sure if gorons understand gender... or may just call her an honorary brother anyway.

Saria probably wouldn't crush on her and mido would probably white knight instead of being a butt.

The little things. Male characters would probably be nicer or more coddling. The whole mention of oldworld is because there were certain ways things worked in ye olden times, because it was similar to the world of zelda.

Re: Editorial: Linkle May be a Clunky Introduction For a 'Female Link', But Opens Up Interesting Possibilities

khaosklub

@TheRealThanos
While it doesn't effect the experience of the completed game, it does effect us as gamers.

Like I've suggested, the story would likely suffer... that or development time would be increased. While the completed product as a result will be the same experience for those who want to play any given gender as it would be if that game did not have the option.

But it would either be less of a game, or a greater game experienced later.

I am not against the idea though, though I do have my preferences, simply stating that such factors should be taken into account before clamoring for something we may all regret

Re: Editorial: Linkle May be a Clunky Introduction For a 'Female Link', But Opens Up Interesting Possibilities

khaosklub

@TheRealThanos
Except what you're describing is more like option two rather than option 3.

Actually, my stance is that I would prefer a set gender for link in a given game. Female or male, doesn't matter which, since the games are pretty much all unrelated anyway. I'd prefer a game just featuring a female link that focuses on a female hero's difficulty in being accepted as a hero, kinda like young link, but with depth

Re: Editorial: Linkle May be a Clunky Introduction For a 'Female Link', But Opens Up Interesting Possibilities

khaosklub

@TheRealThanos
One issue to take into account is the amount of extra work involved with the option, not to say it should be off the table, but that a gender option (rather than giving linkle her own game or something of that nature) would definitely involve more work, thus eiither delaying the game further or limiting content.

At the very least, you have to make a model for both genders.

Aside from that, the story will be effected. Certain situations, especially in the context of an old world fantasy setting, would be very different for a boy or girl. Certain characters would react differently to either gender.

Here, the writers would have to either:
-create a gender neutral story, thus limitting the story dramatically
-create splits on the story for situations where gender would matter, then have the stories rejoin after, which also limits story and would render those parts mostly meaningless.
-create two different stories for each gender. Story would not be limitted, but would take a lot more work.
-not care about gender switches and treat one gender as an alternate skin. In this case "gender" is superfluous and ignored by all characters. Playing as other gender would seem silly or non-believable.

  • just swap out pronouns dialogue (i.e. him/her) and otherwise not care. Here, story would seem awkward at times and non-believable in many cases.

Re: Editorial: Linkle May be a Clunky Introduction For a 'Female Link', But Opens Up Interesting Possibilities

khaosklub

@Ralizah
between link and zelda, no, but what about in ocarina of time, when ruto give link the stone? do we just make ruto an implied homosexual?

the thing is, a female and male hero would be treated differently by specific kinds of people... and to make the world believable, they would have to write different dialogue or perhaps change the story a little.

in Majora's mask, the boys club would definitely reacted differently if linkle tried to join... and someone would have arrested tingle.

Re: You Can't Alter The Chest Size Of Female Characters In The Western Version Of Xenoblade Chronicles X

khaosklub

@smashbrolink
why would people who like breasts complain about the lack of bulge slider?

the fact of the matter is, japan is always getting cool stuff, and we don't!

also, bulge does not equate to breasts really...in terms of visual stimuli, bountiful bouncing breasts for the typical straight male is probably equal to bulging beefy biceps for the typical straight female.

it's really not female objectification, because the fact is, the female retains her identity regardless, thus she herself is integral, though her breasts alone are objectified, because their importance to the game is rendered meaningless by the slider.

essentially, the slider means that the woman, regardless of breast size, is the integral part of the game.

Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form

@Vandy
well, for one, I never claimed that other consoles have quality or unique titles. you claimed the WiiU had many quality and unique titles, while I only count splatoon, and maaaybe mario maker.

heck, I see no reason to get either PS4 nor Xbone, I'm fine with my WiiU and PS3, though I might pick up a steam machine if I ever figure out where they are and when they'll exist.

The point of my arguement really, what makes the WiiU's holiday lineup better than picking up a Wii and buying a bunch of cheap games? sure, the WiiU playes wii games and has Wii mode... but for those with Wii's, why upgrade? offscreen play? isn't that what the 3DS is for?

Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form

khaosklub

@Vandy
probably 'cause the "many quality, unique titles" on the wiiU aren't titles that they're interested, that and all the gloom and doom in the news.

But you know... the WiiU doesn't offer many unique titles at all really. I mean, aside from splatoon and treasure tracker, what does the WiiU offer that wasn't offered on the Wii? Mario Kart is on the Wii, not too different either. Bayonetta 2 isn't unique because 1 was already on other consoles, and it isn't drastically different. Hyrule Warriors is another skinned dynasty warriors, which many exist. tropical freeze isn't too different from it's predecessor, nor from the original donkey kong country games. Rainbow curse, canvas curse, wooly world and yoshi story or epic yarn. 3D world and 3D land, etc.

WiiU is fun and all, but what really makes it stand out from the Wii? nintendoLand?

Read the linked article, this article is misleading in describing the case.

The actual case is that red bull is misleading with ads and claims, and that their drink is about as effective as a cup of coffee. It's not because you don't literally sprout wings out of your back, but that the drink doesn't do what "gives you wings" implies, which is give you a great energy boost.

Re: Valhalla Game Studios is Being Sued Over a Trademark Dispute

Valhalla game studio, and Valhalla motion pictures, suren it says what they are in the logo, but one might assume it's the same company, just two different studios from one company called valhalla.

The point is, if valhalla makes a bad game, or an offensive game that enrages sjw, valhalla movies may suffer due to the similar logos.

Re: More North American Women Own A Games Console Than Men

@russellohh
I'm sure plenty of people care, mostly in terms of marketing or sales or something of that nature. someone would probably like knowing who consoles are bought for in terms of adults.

I don't think everyone has consoles... as this survey suggests, old people tend to not have consoles.

mostly this survey is to compare to previous years.

It seems that this survey is more interested in personal ownership, otherwise it would be a "does your household have a.." question, but the poor wording render the data more unreliable period, regardless of the gender.

Re: More North American Women Own A Games Console Than Men

khaosklub

@russellohh
I would say "which consoles do you personally own?" would have been better.
this has nothing to do with gaming habits, just console ownership. the claim is that more women own consoles than men. regardless of whether they play it or not, it could just be a dedicated netflix box, but they own a console.

Re: More North American Women Own A Games Console Than Men

khaosklub

@russellohh
"Please tell me if you happen to have each of the following items, or not. Do you have...
[INSERT ITEMS IN ORDER]?"

"e. A game console like Xbox or Play Station"

which choices of yes, no, (vol) don't know, (vol) refused.

so, if they have children with consoles, they'd probably answer yes, doesn't imply personal ownership, just "have".

Re: More North American Women Own A Games Console Than Men

khaosklub

@rjejr
those are simply listed as examples of handhelds. without an example of the survey itself, it's hard to defend or refute the validity of the survey... but I'd have to guess that there was a space of some sort to write in handhelds, and some people probably considered that a handheld.

[edit]
http://www.pewinternet.org/files/2015/10/PI_2015-10-29_device-ownership_TOPLINE.pdf

actually, I think this is the survey... the survey actually says psp or sega genesis game player, as examples... but still lists those... and footnote says it used to be PSP and DS, but they changed it last april...

Re: More North American Women Own A Games Console Than Men

khaosklub

also... looking at the methods link, there are about 950 of each gender, but the numbers per age group doesn't indicate gender, so it could be skewed in any which way.

about half the participants of the survey are 50+ years of age... only 349 are between 18 and 29, the smallest group in the survey, the surveyors asked for the youngest adult in the household... so the youngest adult in the household tended to be above 50... in these interviews across 50 states.

so, naturally, older folks will probably not have a console.. and there's no statement on how many of each gender are how old.

also, straight from the complete report in the section regarding home consoles:

"Younger adults
are also more likely than their elders to own a game
console, while there are no differences based on gender
or race and ethnicity"
