We don't always get all of the best games out of Japan, though the region-free nature of the Switch means we can buy games from the Japanese eShop if we please. Yet fully localised versions are always welcome, and we're looking forward to the late May arrival of Disgaea 5 Complete in North America and Europe. It'll have a huge amount of content, as the sizeable campaign will be joined by all of the DLC in the one purchase, hence the 'complete' in the name.
NIS America has released a terrific new video for the game that showcases its cast - this will surely be one of the most extravagant and colourful of Switch games to date...
We were certainly excited about this after trying it out in January - are you planning to pick it up on 23rd May (North America) or 26th May (Europe)?

Cool. Good to see a new Disgaea make it into a Nintendo system. Hopefully, this bodes well for many JRPG's to come.
So glad I forgot to buy 5 in the first place. Going to be right at home on the switch.
I still need to play the others, but I don't have hundreds of hours to spare
I dont think ill buy it. Loved the 3rd. The fourth wasnt to my taste and gameplay got stale. But it sure will be great for what it is.
I will surely get it, 100% but at some price drop
I may pick this up in may....maybe.
Will definitely consider it.
Instant buy! Was going to get for ps4 but now I will wait.
Buying it. Fighting buying it now on the Japan eshop
Played #2 years ago, found it highly addictive and complex, never finished it.
I think this would be a good return for me
@Kalmaro Depends on what you mean by "playing" them
The story is a rather quick fare with usually 30-40 hours each.
As for "completing" them...well, HLTB says that you need approx. 500h for Disgaea
The later ones clock in at around 100-150h in that regard. Its just 1 and 2 that are super excessive.
@Einherjar that makes me feel better. I remember the true final boss in the first one required me using exploits and grinding like crazy.
Never played this series before, but it does look interesting!
300 hours on PS4 this will be day one on switch for me dooooood!
I ended up importing a physical copy from Amazon Japan, and it's absolutely awesome! I had never played a Disgaea game before, but I'm absolutely loving this - I'm splitting my gaming time between this and BotW, these two games alone have made it worth getting a Switch on day one!
@Jhena 5 is easily the most refined of the whole series. It's hard to go back to the previous games after this one.
Never played any of the others. I will be getting this one, already have it preordered from Amazon.
cant wait to play it next month.
The game is just simply a lot of fun, and an incredibly polished and well made package. There is no SRPG series that's more tactical than Disgaea. They give you so many options and avenues to create powerful strategies and characters that lead into a variety of play styles that nothing else even comes close. It doesn't hold your hand much beyond the first few tutorials, but grinding is also quick and easy if you feel like you have to fall back on that to progress.
@pattybean I believe you but for me refinement cant save gameplay im tired of. I just dont want to play another entry.
My GF's mum sent me over a Japanese copy of this - It's fantastic! and ALL the language options are on it too! Beautifully polished game!
So nice to get the japanese stuff translated!
American dubs sound so lame. Hopefully it will be playable with Japanese dialog and English subs (like FFXV)
It'll be the first and only good game on my Switch thus far. Sad to say, but its welcome nonetheless. Too bad I have a few more weeks of waiting though...
Still, I can vouch for the amount of content in any Disgaea game except Disgaea 2 and D-2 because I didn't get to play them. So if you have the money and love RPG's, this is definitely worth picking up for your Switch.
Edit: I preordered the special edition. #Worthit
Got the special limited edition preordered from NIS Online Store
I'm happy to support both a quality game and a developer who puts their money where their mouth is.
So glad I held off on getting this on PS4. Can't wait to play this!
I'm getting Planesape Torment today too. So many games so little time. 😄
Yes, day one!
What a stupid trailer, showed nothing but battles skills. Could show a little more so we know a bit more about the game.
Laharl is the only Overlord. They will know this...
@FGPackers it might be a bit more difficult at a price drop considering it will be on a nintendo system also all the dlc for 5 will already be on it for free.
I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it can tide me over until Arms, or possibly supplant it if it turns out to be better.
I adore Fire Emblem, so I'm tempted to pick this up. May is going to be busy for me, with Echoes, Disgaea and FanExpo!
I did not realize this series was a tactical RPG. I always just assumed it was a regular turn-based JRPG, so I have not been interested. I however love the style of Fire Emblem and similar games.
That being said, I've always thought the art direction with this series was really weird. I know Japanese culture has a thing for trying to make characters look younger and cutesy (I can't remember the word for it), but when they have characters that look like 10 year olds yet are wearing next to nothing it's kind of disturbing.
@brettwayne Me too! I'm not loving Setsuna like I'd hoped, and I suspect this will scratch my RPG itch nicely. Knowing I could have it right now through the Japanese eShop or importing is tough to fight, but since I have Prime, I'd be sacrificing a 20% discount. I can wait.
You can get this off the Japanese estoppel in English since launch of the Switch.
Have this on the PS4. As much as I love this game, I cannot justify buying it again for another system. I really hope it sells well and becomes a regular series for Nintendo. If so, then I will keep getting them here instead of on the other systems.
Still an excellent game, best in the series in fact. But I got this on the PS4 and really don't feel like double dipping.
I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who doesn't own it yet though and likes fun strategy games.
If I want to play all these games that are coming out I'm gonna have to quit my job. In doing so I'll lose my income to purchase them in the first place. Ugh... What should I do?
@AlternateButtons how did it live up to expectations?
does it have english lang option on the Japanese eshop version?
(finished/beaten Zelda and looking for new challenges...) thanks!
