Re: Here's How The 'Blue' Switch Compares To The 'Purple' Game Boy Advance

everynowandben

@Slowdive You can't create that color without adding a little red to a lot of blue - that's where purple came into it. Blue+black and/or blue+white will not allow the creation of that color - some red must be added, and therefore it is no longer blue, but a variant of purple, more specifically indigo aka blue-blue-red. Perhaps it's even closer to blue-blue-blue-red, or 4 parts blue & 1 part red, but breaking it down to that level isn't very useful in my opinion - unless of course you're trying to match the color of the walls in your office to the color of your Switch, which might actually be not too bad of an idea now that I think about it 🤔

Re: Here's How The 'Blue' Switch Compares To The 'Purple' Game Boy Advance

If blue is mixed with red at all - even 99% blue & 1% red - it's a variant of purple. It's really that simple. No red in it, it's blue - any red at all, it's purple. More red than blue is magenta, and more blue than red is indigo, exactly in the middle is a true purple.

People tend to disagree on the names of colors past the tertiary level (people obviously disagree about the tertiary level too, but overall it is basically standardized in English), and obviously color names are a free-for-all rabbit hole below that point, so if we are going to stick to primary, secondary, or tertiary color names, which I suggest we do in this case, this color is quite clearly closest to indigo. It's mostly blue, but there is some red in there, which is how to describe the color indigo (aka blue-blue-red, or I suppose "blurple" could also be an acceptable name lol, as blurple communicates the same thing: blue-blue-red). Furthermore, if it was truly blue or truly purple, we wouldn't even be debating it - which is exactly why it's indigo.

Re: New Pokémon Snap Star Ratings - How To Take 4-Star Photos

everynowandben

Really loving this game! So far though, I only have one Pokemon's dex entry completed with all 4 photos. Not trying to 100% the game or anything, but I appreciate that there are a lot of objectives to keep you busy if you want to keep playing, especially since the first game could be 100%'d in what, 3 hours or something? Lots of stuff to do here. It's kind of amazing too how different each area can be - between progress levels, alternate paths, and night and day, some of these areas have ~9 different variations. Having a blast and a half over here!

Re: Review: Rain on Your Parade - A Refreshingly Brief But Saccharine Shower

@DashKappei Yes, I'd say it's at least great, maybe even excellent. I really enjoyed it. I thought the variety of ideas and objectives were fun and funny. I was especially impressed with how many genres they managed to cover in a game about a cloud from stealth to tower defense - even first-person shooter. Does that answer your question? I guess I'm not sure what you were asking.

Re: Review: Rain on Your Parade - A Refreshingly Brief But Saccharine Shower

@The_New_Butler I suppose I'd have to make some assumptions on your thoughts, but perhaps you might say "it's too easy for too long" or "the early mechanics are not deep enough to hold my interest and see the game through."

It just feels a little unfair in my opinion to say that it's "shallow" and that there is "little skill involved."

Going back to bananas for instance, if you said "I wish this sweeter", it would be if you held out a bit longer. If you don't want to wait for it to be sweeter, I think that's fine too, but that doesn't mean it isn't sweet. If you said, "I wish this was crunchy", then yeah, you're definitely not going to like it.

If you like the concept, but you wish the game itself was deeper and more challenging, you just have to get a little further. I think the Kirby games are a great parallel - the challenge/depth isn't in beating the game, it's in 100%ing it.

Sorry, maybe I'm just having a bad day.. I wasn't trying to pick a fight or anything. Honestly, maybe I was a bit over-surprised at your take here because I 99% agree with your opinions in general 🤷‍♂️ I just really liked Rain on Your Parade. It made me laugh and smile when things have been difficult, and I'd hate for other people to miss that because they might think they wouldn't enjoy the game for maybe the wrong reasons.

Re: Review: Rain on Your Parade - A Refreshingly Brief But Saccharine Shower

everynowandben

@The_New_Butler Like I said, of course it's fine if you don't like it.

I'm just saying the reasoning you provided doesn't necessarily apply. It'd be like saying I don't like bananas because they're sour, but really I just ate a banana that wasn't ripe yet. Telling other people that bananas are gross and sour - while accurate to my experience - isn't really a fair reflection of what bananas actually taste like.

In this case 20% of the game is what, 15 minutes? It's only a couple hours long to beat and maybe 5 hours max to 100%. I just think you may have jumped the gun on your assessment.

Re: Review: Rain on Your Parade - A Refreshingly Brief But Saccharine Shower

everynowandben

@The_New_Butler It's like Kirby or Yoshi games in the sense that the game itself isn't very difficult, but there are plenty of challenging (and hidden) objectives if you are trying to 100% it. There's a new game plus mode after you beat the game that adds even more objectives as well. It's fine if you don't like it of course but I think it's a bit unfair to say it's too easy/shallow if you played less than 20% of the game.

Re: Super Potato, Japan's Legendary Game Store, Opens Its Very Own International eBay Shop

everynowandben

Went to a couple of Super Potato shops in 2019 - Picked up Picross 2 for Game Boy, Mario and Wario for Super Famicom, and Tingle's Balloon Fight DS for DS. Also Snowboard Kids 2 for N64 since it's much, much less expensive than the US version.

Finding games there feels like a miracle when you have little to no familiarity with the Japanese language. It's difficult to hunt for specific games/manga/etc since the Japanese language has a syllabary rather than an alphabet, and while there is an order of course, its not quite as simple as looking for the "M" section, especially when many games have different titles than they do in the west anyway.

Save up your money for when covid is manageable and go visit Japan!

Re: Mother 3's Fan Translation Patch Has Been Updated

everynowandben

@roboshort Yes, definitely play Earthbound and Mother 3 - they are both incredible experiences. I wouldn't bother with the first one though (Mother 1/Earthbound Zero/Earthbound Beginnings) unless you really like the other two. Keep in mind some of the mechanics are a bit outdated by today's standards, and a copy of the guide book (available online for free) is almost essential. Still, I highly recommend you give it a go, especially if you're into old-school JRPGs - they are legitimately very special games.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Becomes The "Best-Selling" Racing Game In US History

everynowandben

@Antraxx777
1. Deluxe added a huge new multiplayer battle mode that was not included in the Wii U, which addressed probably the biggest complaint most people had with the original
2. Deluxe includes the DLC which of course added a significant amount of content
3. The Wii U Gamepad creates a significantly different multiplayer experience that can't be replicated on Switch
4. You can carry 2 items in Deluxe - huge difference in how the game plays
5. New items not found in the original that significantly changes gameplay
6. New characters, karts, and kart components
7. Up to 8-player multiplayer (Wii U was only up to 4)
8. Smart steering option in Deluxe

Never played Assassin's Creed so I can't say for sure. It's possible you could guess my opinion though based on the examples I gave in my previous comment regarding what I consider to be "different enough" to count as a separate release.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Becomes The "Best-Selling" Racing Game In US History

everynowandben

Combining the sales of the two versions doesn't make sense to me - it's not like Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, but like more like Diamond and Platinum. DKC Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2, and NSMBU - sure, pretty much the same. But this game and I'd say Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors, and Pokken Tournament as well are, by my estimation, different enough to be counted as separate games.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Confirmed For Switch, New Trailer

everynowandben

@invictus4000 Where did you see that? Their press kit does not mention online multiplayer https://www.dotemu.com/PressKit/sheet.php?p=Games/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesShreddersRevenge

Edit: So far I see PC Gamer and Escapist Magazine reporting online co-op, but I wonder where they are getting that information, especially since most sites are not specifically reporting online co-op. Also, YouTube, the Nintendo eShop page, and the Steam page all do not mention online co-op.

Re: Picross S6 Launches On Switch Next Week, And The Whole Series Is Going On Sale

everynowandben

I never finished Zelda Picross.
Or Pokemon Picross.
Or Picross 3D.
Or Picross 3D 2.
Or Picross DS.
Or that unreleased GBC version of Pokemon Picross I downloaded the fan translation for.
Or Super Mario Picross on the NSO SNES app.
Or Picross 2 (picked it up in Japan a couple years ago).
So... probably shouldn't be getting any more picross for approximately the rest of my life 😅
