Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet Announced, Releasing Worldwide In "Late 2022"

As far as a general overview, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are said to “take a new evolutionary step in the Pokemon main series.” Players will be able to “explore an open world where various towns with no borders blend seamlessly into the wilderness.” Similar to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, creatures are out and about everywhere – be it the skies, in the sea, and on the streets.

Re: Poll: Have You Caught A Shiny Pokémon In The Diamond And Pearl Remakes?

I've never shiny hunted or anything like that, but I've caught about 5 or so just randomly over the years (wingull, meditite, couple shuppets, geodude), and have hatched a few by breeding (shroomish, raltz, rockruff). I've recieved quite a few via wonder trade (including legendaries and mythicals, and yes, they are almost certainly not legit). Wonder trade is where most of mine came from. I've also collected some from official giveaways. I believe I have about about 40 or so in total - a little more than a full box.

Re: Talking Point: How Many Hours Is A 'Short' Game For You?

everynowandben

I voted that anything under 8 is short. Also, short is good. I'm typically turned off to playing games I know will take over 30 hours. That being said, I still play games that long and often enjoy every minute.

Edit: Right after I posted I looked at my profile pic and thought about the hundreds upon hundreds of hours I've invested in Fire Emblem and Pokémon 😂😅

@Darlinfan There are many, many steps between total lack of awareness and "mission accomplished." There's also a huge difference between education reform and treating animals with respect - it's not really apples to apples. The slaughter of animals for food would stop almost overnight if everyone on Earth decided to be vegan all at once, which would solve by far the biggest contributing factor to animal disrespect. The concept is simple for people to understand: the more meat eaten, the more animals have to be killed. Educational reform is a lot more complex of an issue with many, many competing ideas for what should happen when, how, where, and to/with who. Another difference is that many people would like to see educational reform in some form or another, while most people do not want to hear the message that eating meat contributes to animal disrespect. People say "I love animals, but I also love eating meat." Those people don't want to hear or acknowledge their contradiction. Which is why PETA (misguidedly) feels compelled to resort to shock value, scare tactics, etc. Their plan is to get their message out at any cost, which of course often leads to hypocrisy and making moves that ultimately undermine the message they're trying to deliver. Conversely, the ranter simply wouldn't hurl feces in the first place because he wouldn't feel like he must do so in order for his message to be heard. People will probably listen to him anyway. An additional flaw with that comparison is that the passerby doesn't know who the ranter is in advance or what he stands for by association. This is the part I feel like you may be dismissing: It's not just that people think PETA sucks, it's that people know what PETA is and what they are trying to tell you (even though of course HOW they communicate that message is often beyond awful). Every time someone hears "PETA" they also hear "animal cruelty is bad" purely by association even if it's subconsciously. Now, they might also hear "those people are awful" and "hypocrites" but that doesn't matter to PETA (because they're awful). The more people have the idea "animal cruelty is bad" go through their minds, the more likely they are to actually consider that thought. The same can't be said about the the guy hurling feces - his identity and his message are not hand in hand. People don't associate the ranter with the message. When covered in the stinky brown stuff, most people aren't going to think "we should reform education."

@Darlinfan Reread these comments. Sure, people here aren't exactly discussing animal rights, but you aren't considering the fact that many people here are thinking about animal rights when they would not have otherwise. Small and/or fleeting thoughts have a bigger influence than you might expect. Let's look at hypothetical opposite extremes. Extreme one: literally no one ever talks about or thinks about X even for a moment. Will anyone care about X? Essentially impossible. Other extreme: all ideas thought, sentences spoken, and words written are about X. Will anyone care about X? Definitely, there's no other choice. Put these extremes on opposite ends if a sliding scale, and you can see that talking about and/or thinking about X in some capacity has a proportional effect on if people care about X or not. PETA thinks ends justify means. Their underlying message (animals should be treated with respect) is being considered (albeit at a fairly shallow, maybe even subconscious level) by people here who would not think about animal rights at all otherwise. Personally, I don't think ends justify means, but we can't say that PETA didn't ultimately get us thinking and talking about animal rights today, even if yes, it's at a very shallow level.
