Re: Switch Becomes The Best-Selling Console For 24 Consecutive Months Despite PS5, Xbox Series Launches (US)

@TG16_IS_BAE That's cool that you haven't had any trouble in years but you will admit that an open platform like the PC is inherently more likely to have issues than a closed system like a console. There are simply more moving parts on a PC. The added complexity means it's more likely that something will go wrong on a PC. For example - I play GTA IV on a PC. The cutscenes were stuttering and I spent a good 30 minutes looking on forums how to fix the problem. This led down a rabbit hole of how to get the game running it's best on my PC. I enjoy this type of stuff so it's not that big a deal but a lot of less technically minded folk would probably just abandon the game. On the xbox series x I can play GTA IV locked at 60FPS, upscaled to 4K without having to do ANYTHING. All I'm saying is that it's nice to know exactly what you're getting each time you load up a game. For the most part consoles deliver this type of consistency.

EDIT: I will say this cuts both ways. If you're not happy with the performance of a console there's not much you can do where on the PC you can adjust the graphics settings or even pop in a new GPU and you're good to go for another generation. I'm not trying to preach consoles over PC (or vice-versa). I just think that it's a nuanced decision and that you can't really make blanket statements about what is "best" for everyone. It depends on your priorities.

@TG16_IS_BAE I have a gaming PC, Xbox Series X, PS4 and a switch. While I love gaming on my PC I think it's fair to say that consoles deliver a more reliable experience. Sometimes after a long day at work I just want to chill on the couch with a controller and a beer and not have to worry about drivers, windows updates, etc. I think from a VALUE proposition PC gaming makes the most sense but there are definitely reasons why someone might prefer consoles - ease of use being right up there.

@Giygas_95 I would give the nod to Series X. you can play games going back all the way to the original xbox. Not ALL games but most of the big ones and I believe all xbox one games except for those that use Kinect (there aren't many of these). Sony really didn't have any back compatibility on the PS4 but the PS5 can play MOST PS4 games (plus you can purchase popular PS3 games from their online store). Overall the situation is much improved this generation regardless of your platform. It's a pretty great time to be a console gamer.

@Giygas_95 As far as backwards compatibility goes both the PS5 and Series X are better (in the case of PS5 MUCH BETTER). Than the previous generation. I just ordered KOTOR II and Grand Theft Auto VI for xbox 360 and cannot wait to play them upscaled and buttery smooth at 60FPS on the series X. Not saying a PC wouldn't be better for backwards compatibility but at least the console makers are acknowledging the desire for back compat.

Edit: The xbox one was already good at back compatibility. I don't want to make it sound like I think the PS5 is better. Just stating the Sony has put in a lot more effort on the back compatibility front this time around.

Re: Feature: Keeping It Physical In A Digital Age

Physical unless there is a steep discount. I can sell, trade, gift a physical game when I'm done with it so the price of digital has to be quite a bit lower for me to bite. I will admit to feeling some envy not being able to have every game instantly available on my switch! I see pros and cons for both.

I'm an old fogey. Physical all the way. I like the idea of owning something. I can (and do) occasionally sell or lend games. I will concede having all the games instantly accessible without switching carts would be nice. You also don't have to worry about loss or theft since the games are tied to your account. I definitely see why people enjoy the ease of use for digital but I can't get over the fact that I don't have something tangible.

Re: Cuphead Celebrates One Year On Nintendo Switch With A Special Anniversary Sale

@apoqalypse Ok so for you personally it doesn’t make sense. The devs are not setting prices based on any one person. What if the switch is your only platform? What if you value being able to play the game on the go? My point is there are factors that might lead someone to purchase a game on Nintendo’s platform even though there is a price premium. The devs are setting costs based on what the market will bear. I’m not saying I like paying more for games on the switch I’m saying their are simple(ish) reasons for the “Switch tax” to exist. In the end prices will drop once the developers have data that the game is no longer selling at an acceptable rate at the current price.

@apoqalypse it’s pretty simple. Cup head was released two years earlier on other platforms. Therefore it gets steeper discounts on those platforms. The publisher knows that if you are looking at cup head on the switch you either don’t have it on another system or value the portability of the switch. They don’t have an incentive to lower the price because there is still sufficient demand at the current price.

My wife and I each bought a pass. It was actually a lot of fun and well worth the $8 in our opinion. Getting invited to an EX raid is not THAT difficult. I believe you just have to beat any 5 star raid at an EX gym. This is pretty easy to do on wednesdays in any decent sized city. If you’re more rural I feel your pain. Pokémon Go is definitely not great if you don’t live near/in a city.

@Appleflap Get one of these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K1LYSX8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I absolutely love mine! you can use it anywhere and it is quite compact (but a bit heavy). The only minor gripe I have is that the construction of the part that actually holds the tablet/switch is a little bit plasticky but if you are gentle with it it should hold up fine.
