Devolver Digital has revealed that it is bringing Dennaton Games' super-brutal Hotline Miami series to the Nintendo Switch eShop today.
This pair of top-down action titles have been blessed with commercial and critical success on other systems in the past thanks to their retro-style visuals, fantastic soundtracks and bloody, gore-filled gameplay.
"Hotline Miami’s intense challenge, deep narrative, and penchant for extreme violence mix together to create an intoxicating cocktail which once again brings up that age-old argument of whether or not games should truly be considered art," is what our friends over at Push Square said about the first game's PS Vita release way back in 2013.
Meanwhile, the verdict on the sequel was that it "isn't quite as spectacular as it could have been – thanks to some flaws in its level design – but that isn't enough to make it anything less than great."
You can download Hotline Miami Collection from today.

I have no clue what this is, even after watching it in the direct.
Awesome, I love these games.
Hells yes!! Love the HLM series, and it's one of those games that'll fit perfectly on the switch. Well happy about this news
Haven't ever played the games before but I'm pretty keen too. Waiting on price before deciding whether to get it at launch but at the very least I'll throw it on the watch list and grab it sooner or later.
I had already heard this game mentioned so many times in various circles that I assumed it was already on the Switch or even that it had been released on Wii U at some point. LOL
waiting on physical
Got those on PC and Vita, but I love them so much to warrant a third purchase!
@NintendoByNature It's basically a series of top-down 8-bit and 16-bit inspired GTA type games.
Miami is my home, yet this will be the first I've played these. Can't wait.
@ThanosReXXX that's the vibe i somewhat gathered. Almost reminded me of retro city rampage or shakedown Hawaii. How are the games? Pretty fun?
HLM1 is totally awesome. Number 2... much less so.
@NintendoByNature Honestly can't say, since I haven't played any of them, but I do know that all of them are pretty popular, if that's anything to go by. I suppose there'll be a review flying around on YouTube or on any of the other large and reputable game sites, so that might be worth looking into, if you're interested in these games.
I do own Retro City Rampage, by the way, but I've always seen that as more of a 2D action game, and they're not really top-down either, more like side-on, semi-isometric view.
@ThanosReXXX Not sure that they are GTA type games to be honest..apart from they look a bit like the original GTA on foot sections, perhaps?
Tactical twitch mass murder sim is perhaps more accurate
HM 1 & 2 always looked interesting to me and I meant to buy them on PC but some years have passed. I guess I just forgot and was distracted by other games. I will finally get to experience these for the first time
@NintendoByNature They're top down action games in which you clear rooms of enemies with a large variety of weapons and abilities. Typically the enemies die in one hit, as do you. Very violent and wrapped up in a dark story with a killer soundtrack.
They're not actually all that similar to GTA, Retro City Rampage, or Shakedown Hawaii, aside from aethestic.
@kyleforrester87 Yeah, well... It's the genre that comes closest, or is the first that comes to mind, probably also because of the whole Miami vibe. And yes, it does look like the on-foot sections of the original GTA.
@ThanosReXXX I agree they look similar, they are very different, though.
@NintendoByNature strategic twin stick beat em up
there are SO many eshop games that only had any credibility or notoriety because they came close to being Hotline Miami
@kyleforrester87 Oh, well. I stand corrected, then.
@NintendoByNature Better take note of this, since my description wasn't all that accurate, as you may have noticed.
These games have some of the best soundtracks out there, period.
@ThanosReXXX got it. Might hold off for now. $25 For the collection is a little more than i want to spend.
@bluesdance thanks!
Great music in the trailer who is it?
Hotline Miami is one of my favorite games. I thought HLM2 was significantly worse. I may double dip at some point in the future, but will wait for a fairly significant sale.
I’ve played through both of them on the PS4 when they arrived on there, maybe i’ll buy them for Switch and enjoy them in handheld mode.
This game was so awesome. Double dip for sure!
I hope one day rockstar will port over those GTA mobile ports, could never finish any of those games since they are on the phone
@ThanosReXXX violence wise, it's kinda gta, but other than that I see no resemblance. Maybe the older gta? Not trying to be rude it's just kinda apples to oranges for me. Your comparison that is
Edit: seems someone already told you this,lol. My bad.
@whanvee I won't hold it against you.
One of my favorite Vita games. Prepare to die a lot. Super fun
I don't think so. I think Ape Out is a much more fun alternative
I'd buy if there was a physical release
I have been waiting for this!!!!!
Played it a lot on the Vita already, but when it goes on sale I'll be happy to revisit.
Could have done with it 3 months ago to be honest... bit weird how this and Ori come in and around a really busy window when, rumours suggest, both have been locked down for months.
Great addition to the Switch library anyway!
@NintendoByNature they are awesome! They have a retro vibe. Very fast paced and kind be a little challenging. I’ve beaten them both on my vita but I’m buying them again!
I guess Miyamoto got over his dislike of the music...
Devolver Digital has confirmed physical https://mobile.twitter.com/specialreserves/status/1163504056154939392
@NintendoByNature Get it. Thank me later.
ill buy it if they release a physical version.
Hands down the best game soundtrack ever!
The people who hadn’t heard, or played this game. Are going to be in for a nice surprise.
@NintendoByNature just note that it’s incredibly gruesome
@LowTang
The people who hadn't heard of it are probably weebs who fear the day a blacklight comes anywhere near their plush dolls.
Should have bought it this morning as it’s been pulled from the aus eshop. Damn it! At least give us HLM1.
And it's been pulled from the Australian eshop. Thanks spineless hypocritical government
So it IS finally coming to Switch. I know people really talk about HLM, so I'm interested.
