Re: Soapbox: Is Super Mario Odyssey the Best Mario Game Ever?

chriiiiiiiiiis

This video was really confusing... You can't say you tried to be unbiased when you say 3D World is bad because it's linear, then praise Galaxy for having more linearity which can make the experience better. You also said Sunshine was bad because it has more hand holding but then I think it's not unbiased to say that Mario Odyssey has been criticised for being too easy much more than Sunshine has been.

Either way, I don't know what my favourite game is but Odyssey definitely has left a great impression on me so far. I think I need to go back and play the other games to make a proper decision.

Re: Soapbox: What The Upcoming Pokémon Switch RPG Can Learn From Recent Pokémon Games

chriiiiiiiiiis

Pokemon really is at a point where no matter what they do, there will be a bunch of people ready to attack Game Freak for screwing something up so they should do whatever they think is best without worrying too much about the fans...

That being said, I really hope the battle system doesn't change since that is what defines Pokemon for me more than the world or stories or anything else. They would really need to sell me Pokemon again if they got rid of turn based combat. If it's open world, I feel like it would end up looking a lot like a simplified Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which isn't a bad thing, but isn't a Pokemon game to me.

Re: A New Stage Is Coming To ARMS, And It Has Splendid Pillars

chriiiiiiiiiis

Can NintendoLife make sure the next person they hire can translate Japanese? It feels like every article that tries to translate Japanese is literally gibberish and I've translated probably most of them in the comments but not everyone will scroll down.

"You can feel the weight of history from this amazing pillar!
Touching it makes me feel like I'm also apart of the history... hehe...

By the way, the face carved in this pillar appears to be the god of this area's religion.
The overflowing godliness, the sense of intimidation that seeps out!
... and the sense of connection you can't help but feel to it! It might be my imagination but doesn't it kind of resemble me? Look, like the godliness of it..."

Re: Review: Farming Simulator: Nintendo Switch Edition (Switch)

chriiiiiiiiiis

I'm just going to put it out there and say this review sounds like you didn't play the game beyond an hour or so. It reads like you started playing a bit, got overwhelmed after the initial beginning and tried to do some stuff briefly (maybe watched some YouTube videos) before you started writing this review. It all looks good to you but it's not for you so you just stuck on a score on what you think it might be like. This is definitely a first impressions more than it is a review.

Re: A Just Dance 2018 Demo is Now Available on Nintendo Switch and Wii U

chriiiiiiiiiis

I looked up the playlist of all the songs in this release and I felt kind of embarrassed I didn't know most of the songs. Browsing the videos though some of the songs have a lot harder dance movements than I remember when I played Just Dance. I remember I could play a song maybe twice and understood the movements but the movement patterns seem kind of harder in this one. Maybe I'm completely wrong though hmm

Re: Reggie on How Nintendo Handles Announcements and Responds to Fan Input

chriiiiiiiiiis

Has Nintendo really done that many things to anger so many people? For a site that is dedicated to Nintendo, it's not as if I assume people will just follow Nintendo blindly but Nintendo have very harsh critics here. Even little things like the countless people who commented Xenoblade will definitely not arrive this year even though Nintendo consistently said it would, there is just little faith in a company that has generally been doing such a great job lately. Not perfect, but still good to me.

Re: Rumour: Switch's Hidden NES Golf Game Is A Tribute To The Late Satoru Iwata

chriiiiiiiiiis

This story really hit me close to my heart. Nintendo is just such a thoughtful and interesting company. Despite everything, I really think you have to respect them in some way if you love games.

@Moon I don't think anyone is celebrating the date of his death though? A tribute is like an act to show how grateful you are to someone or how much you respect them. Death anniversaries can be symbolic as like the symbol of someone entering a new state and their spirit becoming free so it might suggest that Iwata lives on through his Nintendo legacy.

Re: Soapbox: Playing Super Mario Sunshine Today Painfully Illustrates Nintendo's 3D Evolution

chriiiiiiiiiis

Definitely not a bad game for me but it feels weird for the author to write it so definitively. I played Sunshine as a child and I hatedddd it. But then when I grew up and played again I absolutely fell in love with the game and especially with FLUDD I felt like I was about to be more precise with my jumps and everything else. There are some frustrating levels but in general, it's a really beautiful experience that definitely has held up for me. I don't understand why people get upset over levels being too difficult when there are so many to choose from and there is only like 4 levels that can frustrate you out of like 50 (I just completely made up those numbers but you get the point haha).

Re: Splatoon 2 Designer Explains Why The Maps Rotate And Salmon Run Is Time-Limited

chriiiiiiiiiis

This comment section is a bit crazy. Amaro really is just stating what Japanese culture is like more than anything directly related to Nintendo. For Western audiences, it definitely can come across as some sort of excuse or arrogance maybe but they created the game and there is a sense that trust comes from both sides of a relationship. It's not that the customer blindly follows the creator but there is a balance of meeting the customers needs with meeting the artistic design in this case. It is much more arrogant for someone in the comments section to demand how a game should be created to meet their own needs which they assume is the needs of everyone else around them than a game designer doing it since they have dedicated their life to the art. Eastern and Western philosophies both hold merit and there really isn't a right and wrong way to do things.

Re: Pokémon CEO on the Future of Pokémon and the Switch

chriiiiiiiiiis

@invictus4000 a mainline Pokemon game is never going to have real adult themes in it. It's going to stay as something that is marketed for children and the whole family.

I'm actually a fan of the storyline in Sun and Moon. X and Y nearly killed me with its boring plot but Sun and Moon actually was kind of touching and sweet to play. Since I doubt big changes will come in the form of gameplay mechanics, I think the story is the only area where they can really differentiate between games so I hope they are able to create something amazing again for the Switch. I think everyone will have their eyes on this title since it's such a big step for Pokemon to move to HD so they really will want to showcase something they are proud of. It will all be alright.

Re: Editorial: Is This a Golden Era of Gaming? Absolutely

chriiiiiiiiiis

I don't know about Golden Era but right now is definitely looking brighter than the last few years. If you look at top ten games lists over the past 10 years or so, a lot of games on those lists are probably forgotten because realistically, the impact they left on us was limited. This year has brought out a lot of games that I think will leave a big impact on me that I'll remember in 5 to 10 years which is kind of exciting to think about.

Re: The Overcooked: Special Edition Performance Patch Is Nearing Release

chriiiiiiiiiis

@XenoShaun I've played this a lot with friends and had a lot of fun in the past but since buying it on the Switch recently, so far I've only played it single player. Overcooked I actually have found to not be terrible as a single player game. I don't know if it's worth the full price if you'll never play with others because it's definitely not THAT fun when you're alone but I once I worked out you can leave someone to cut things and switch to the other character, I liked the feeling of multitasking.

Re: Capturing Uproots In Super Mario Odyssey Looks Like Fun

chriiiiiiiiiis

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I tried to polish up your translations a bit so it's a bit clearer

""Capture Senobii" is a new character from capturing a Senobii. The character was made in the image of a (plant) bulb. If you look at it from far away, it looks like a pair of chopsticks?!" (referring to the photo in the original tweet)

You're also right that "senobi" means "standing on tiptoe" or to "stretch" but often it suggests the meaning that someone is trying to reach for something or do something that's beyond their ability. I don't think it's that relevant to this character but just an interesting fact!

Re: Editorial: amiibo Has Stalled, Because Nintendo is Forgetting What Makes It Special

chriiiiiiiiiis

Well everyone wants different things from amiibo and I think Nintendo had to make a decision about what exactly amiibo will do. They are definitely toys to me, no matter how I look at it. They hold more value than just a normal figurine though because they actually do something, no matter how mundane that is. If they do too much, people complain and become unhappy. If they don't do enough, people will feel like they aren't that useful. Comparing how amiibo has worked between Splatoon 1 and 2, it's kind of obvious which direction they think is better for their amiibo to keep all the fans happy. What made amiibo special was the idea that they were useful, not that they particularly were useful. When you get over the novelty of them, of course sales will drop.

Re: Wii U OS Version 5.5.2 Is Now Live

chriiiiiiiiiis

So I guess that now Switch is out and a success, Nintendo Life is going to insult the WiiU now too? I'm not saying people should lie and say it's super fast or anything but it's kind of a low blow and felt irrelevant.

Re: Editorial: Satoru Iwata's Vision for Gaming Continues to Shine Through Nintendo

chriiiiiiiiiis

I'm really interested as to what exactly Iwata's input on the Switch was. I think his love of games in unquestionable but I'd love to know if he was still here up to the Switch's launch, would we have seen a very similar or different Switchbeing released? I guess there is no real way to know that answer right now but it's maybe not that relevant to his death. I never met him but I feel as though he must have been a really good human being.

Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch

chriiiiiiiiiis

He sounds like the kind of person who just thinks his experiences equal the reality of the entire world. He would definitely sit at home and claim if he was running Nintendo, the company would become much better and he'd save it from all its mistakes. It's not as though everything he is saying is a lie but if he wants to sit there and speak as if he's the voice of all the 3rd-party developers, he is just lying at that point.

Re: It's "A Bit Sad" That Switch Isn't More Powerful, Says THQ Nordic

chriiiiiiiiiis

What the guy is saying technically isn't wrong but the problem is that lots of people don't want to here this kind of thing from a company. Saying "it is what it is" can be nice because it's down to earth or whatever but at the same time, it fills people with zero hope or faith in the company. That's not showing you support the Switch when you shrug it off (but they are supporting it) and it makes people weary to buy your games. I'm not saying every company needs to blindly love the Switch or any console in fact but if they want to sell something, these kinds of comments are not a good start...
