Stardew Valley is arguably one of the most hotly anticipated indie titles to have made its way to Switch. The game was insanely popular on other platforms for doing pretty much everything just so, and we don't think anyone can object to such a well-received game making its way to Nintendo's hybrid.
Being able to take such an engrossing title with you wherever you go is a dream come true for many, which we explain in far greater detail than a single line in the video above, so check it out!

It’s a perfect game, just got it yesterday and it’s really perfect for switch. Always saw this game on steam but never picked up, first time player and i’m loving. Give me Haverst Moon: Hero of leaf valley (psp) feelings
I like to think you made this specifically to upset @Menchi187... Good job 👍
It's fun so far, but there's a lot of bugs and glitches that need ironing out.
I really love Stardew Valley, as it's my most played game ever. 170 hours and counting on PC.
Would love to buy it on the Switch, but 20 seconds for saving is not something I'm used to or want to get used to. If they fix that bug - and the other ones - I'll buy it.
Eeehh, I dunno. I had it on PC and I definitely see how it hooks people for a while.
Still, by the start of the first winter I was pretty much sick of doing the same few minutes worth of chores at the start of every day and I don't really see how having it on a portable machine would negate that.
Yet another Switch game where "I'll wait for the bug fix patch" is going to be said a lot.
I'm going to wait until it's in sale and Chucklefish fixed most of the bugs. I own the PC version too, so don't see any reason to double dip since I've got a lot of Switch games to play in the train.
Honestly, most games are perfect for the Switch, since you know, you can play them anywhere.
Where dat Hollow Knight at?
@krvstkvlt It’s not a bug, it clearly states saving can take a while. I just have a drink or whatever while I wait. On my PC with only SSD’s I’m not used to waiting, yet I don’t find it an issue at all, each to their own.
@Hughesy It's a problem on all consoles, based on how the game is ported. They're working on it, as 20 seconds are way too long and they know it. The fact they know it, made them put in a message that says it takes a bit to save.
I mean, a couple of seconds of saving aren't that bad but 20+ is clearly a problem.
Physical Release in Europe or only eshop?
yeah the saving is a little time consuming but hardly a deal breaker imo. I have never played this before and I can see this really eating up my time! I love it! feels like a cross between Minecraft: Story Mode and Animal Crossing
Is there only one speed for the clock? I find a day zips past so fast, I don't get the chance to sweet talk all m'honeys.
Marnie is so hot for me right now
@Hughesy @krvstkvlt I've been enjoying the game on my Switch, but I will agree I found the save times to be quite jarring coming from PC. I don't really see why such a simple game would take so long to save, so hopefully it is something that can be optimized.
Can someone cover my job for about three weeks, so I can play this and other recent Switch titles that I don't have time for?
Sorry, but it's a pretty shoddy port!
-No touchscreen support, with onscreen cursor from PC version
-20-30 second save times. Since you save regularly after each day shift, this is really annoying and needs to be fixed!
It's a low graphic 8-bit game, small in size! Inexcusable for such long load/save times!
-No CO-OP? What happened to this promised feature? It was hyped like crazy before the summer!
@gcunit haha juggling them on the fly. I married Alex on my PS4 save but this time I’m gonna go for Sebastian...if he ever gets out of his room....
I’m playing right now in bed and I’m loving it! The only jarring thing for me is the longer save time but hopefully in time these things get fixed. Anywho I’m happy!
I was meaning to get back into this game after I stopped playing it on my laptop. However I will most likely buy it on the switch and restart it as I feel this game is perfectly suited to a handheld.
Glad Nintendo is getting some great indie titles onboard!
Still no news from Marvelous about Bokujou Monogatari for Nintendo Switch.
Anyway, I found another game looks similar with Stardew Valley.
@MartyFlanMJFan Still better on PC
I generally always prefer physical media, but games like this and Animal Crossing are almost meant to be digitally distributed. They're great for short bursts and since I'm constantly jumping in and out I don't want to fumble with carts or discs to play a session here and there.
@Jeronan Most of your issues are being fixed or developed right as we speak.
The game is made by one man, which means the written code has a lot of flaws. For PC, that isn't a problem, for consoles however, it is. Multiplayer is early 2018.
@thesilverbrick
Animal Crossing games are deserved for Physical retail. Animal Crossing games can be played for long time, not just only for short burst. Me, myself sometimes play Animal Crossing New Leaf for more than 1 - 2 hours just for shaping my town, get PWP Request, Time Travel, Move in / Move Out, etc.
Is it an auto save that occurs quite frequently or just a single save at the end of each session? If it's the latter then it's really not a problem but if it's more frequent then yep, 20 seconds would annoy me.
Tried it on Steam and kinda got bored of it fast so maybe because it wasnt portable? Still got bored of it. Yeah this game is just not for me.
I'm okay with the save time. I love the game so far but I have a few concerns. You can't customize the controls at all, B and + both take you to the inventory screen, - takes you to Quests, X takes you to crafting...and nothing takes you straight to the map. Clicking in the sticks does nothing, the left "d-pad" buttons are the same as the L stick...there is plenty of real-estate here to give me a map button.
Also, does anyone know what the L and R shoulder buttons do? The gear in my inventory kind of wiggle when you press them but nothing happens. I'm sure it must be something I'm not ready for.
I have never played any of the "farm games" not this, no Animal Crossing, no Harvest Moon. I always wanted to try one, but don't want to plunk down large chunks of cash to try a game I might not really enjoy.
If this game hits the $7-$10 mark, I think I'll give it a try
@Jeronan None of the versions have co-op yet. It'll be out soon.
@OorWullie It autosaves at the end of every day, or whenever it is that you go to bed if earlier. So pretty frequent, especially if your focus is just on tending your crops and going to bed to raise money asap early game.
@King_Johobo I intend to attract the amorous attention of Shane, just so that I can reject him for being such a mardy bum.
@Menchi187 absolutely made for Switch though... Glad you took it in good spirits! 👍
I'd say this is the best harvest moon since harvest moon lost it's name. Also I finally get to be gay without having to jump hurdles like picking the girl character and then changing my face to one of the boy faces and wearing boy clothes.
Although many of the guy suitors are very meh.
@Radbot42 Sebby is pretty cool, although he's a little emo at the beginning lol. I think that's why this game is so charming. Everyone is not what they seem to be. They all get a chance to show who they actually are once you build relationships with them.
Loving the game so far. Only gripes are the weird PC cursor, slow running speed, and long save times (none of which are really dealbreakers). Hopefully all are being fixed, though.
@Saego This is something a lot of people forget. One person made this game. You can't expect the same kind of tight coding and polish you get on a Nintendo game when one guy wrote, designed and coded everything in the game.
I get as twitchy as anyone while I'm waiting for the save to finish. But I think if you remind yourself that the game is truly the indiest of indie productions, it becomes a little easier to bear. Same thing goes for all the other little quibbles. No touch screen? Disaster! Oh, wait, one man made everything in the game. Okay then!
Frankly, in a time when gaming has become big business and AAA titles have developer budgets in the millions and Hollywood talent for the voice acting, it's pretty awesome to sit down once in a while and play a game like this, a throwback to early Nineties shareware titles that were made by tiny teams in somebody's garage with zero budget but lots of love.
The Harvest Moon games themselves have become incredibly over-produced compared to the wonderful early titles like FOMT, which this game strongly resembles. I have nothing against bigger titles, mind you, but it's great to have true indies too.
(Edited because I made an inaccurate statement that Barone made the game "in his spare time". But still!
I'm a huge fan of Animal Crossing but I never got in to farming sims like Harvest Moon. That said, Stardew Valley looks like it could definitely be fun to play. I'm interested in that it allows for same-sex relationships (one of the things I loved about Fire Emblem Fates was that I could have a same-sex coupling). So if I get the game, I'm definitely doing that!! Also, this could be a really fun game/distraction when I'm stuck with my partner's family over the Christmas break this year. LOL....oy, inlaws.
Picked up the game. So far 7-day in the game. It's a bit overwhelming in the beginning as there are so much to do. But I love it. Wife is also happy with it!
Just picked it up yesterday. forgot how much i missed this game (I stopped playing on pc after the original port rumors started popping up).
@Radbot42 lol I thought I was the only on that did that. opposite of your gameplay of course. Although I get annoyed because I think farming in a dress is silly so I still have my character wear pants but have long hair so I can pretend I'm playing as a woman. Not going to lie that was one of the things that hooked me on stardew in the first place. My avatar can be...me.
Played 8 hours straight after downloading. It's really perfect for handheld. Touch controls would have been nice though.
I absolutely loved Stardew on the PC so I couldn't wait to pick it up for Switch!
It's too bad the save times are really ruining this game for me. It's so bad that I dread having to "end" my day. They are the longest I've ever seen in any video game. So long that I usually get up and go do something else while I wait, so the game loses it's "just one more day" addictive quality. As a programmer myself I would really love to hear an explanation for why it takes so long. I'm genuinely curious.
My only other gripe is that, after playing Golf Story, the run speed in Stardew just feels painfully slow. Slower than I remember, I had to check multiple times to see if there was an actual "run" button... there isn't. That horse can't come soon enough.
I really want to get this. But I have other games to play first, including Story of Seasons. I'll probably get it once I have money, and multiplayer is added.
This really is an exeptional game. Wish they would release some kind of physical collectors edition in the EU (hint hint)
What's kind of weird is that touchscreen works in the keyboard screens, where you name your cat and whatnot. I guess that's a standard part of the Switch OS, since it's the exact same text input screen as you see in the eShop and everywhere else on Switch. But it's odd that suddenly in the middle of the game the touchscreen works.
I’ve just downloaded but lord knows when I’ll get time to play it
i dont get why people moaning about this game. it's great. the save actually not that long. and I dont see any bug in it. having said that my switch now never too far away again from me. finally
@gcunit haha! Oh Shane! Even when he warms up to you he’s still a moody a hole!
I have a question: What game is not a perfect fit for the Switch? Seems like every game benefits from home and portable play so the statement feels like it's just being used to death at this point.
