Surprised how many people haven't heard of base.com, been buying from them for years and they seem to be regularly the cheapest site for a lot of Switch games.
Like other people said about Shopto, base also pick up cheap copies from over in mainland Europe, the last game I got from them was a 'SCN' (Scandinavian?) version for example.
Wouldn't be surprised if that means they're just one customer over in whatever country they buy their games, and the stock issues come from whoever they ordered from.
Koei Tecmo's had 'Treasure Box' editions for the original Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors, which came with, among other things, a scarf (Zelda) and CDs and postcards (Fire Emblem) so it's possible a western LE will be a similarly cut down subset of the Treasure Box stuff. Maybe they'll keep the blanket, since the WiiU LE had a scarf.
@SapphireBlaze @Dazza
The 'lottery' mentioned is their way of rationing Switch consoles, nothing related to the Game & Watch. Might've just been mentioned on a page about the website being under too much load (probably that situation is usually created by lots of people trying to enter a Switch lottery).
@Xiovanni The flag in the WiiU footage is after previously beating the level as Mario, the one in the Switch footage is before beating the level at all.
@Sir_Ronson The Japanese eShop page states it's been sped up.
"Plus", it's easier to play! With movement speed increased, and support for gyro controls, the ease of play has evolved for the Nintendo Switch. Cat Mario's wallclimbing and jump gliding time have also been lengthened, so it's possible to clear courses even faster than before. Online play is also supported, to enjoy playing courses together with faraway Friends.
Bought Collection of Mana physical, imported Romancing Saga 3 physical and Dragon Quest 1-2-3 physical, would've got this physical even if I had to import it. But this... nah. Even the novels which might be interesting... are set to be released as an e-book later.
Romancing Saga 2, 3, Scarlet Grace, and now Collection of Saga... this is the fourth Saga for the Switch and none of them have a western physical. If Collection isn't going to sell well enough alone, just stick them all on one cart and call that a Collection of Saga.
Looks like they have actually added "Please note that you need a credit card to place an order." to the page by now, so it's at least possible to tell before spending your points.
Never seen a site accept UK credit cards but refuse UK debit cards even if it only says 'credit cards', but I guess in some countries the systems are weirder.
@RupeeClock Once turnips rot, I don't think there's any way to tell anymore how many were in the stack, be it 10 or 100. Charitable thing would be to take each one as 10, as each item definitely was at least 10... but with no mention, maybe they're just taking each item as 1.
Going by a game collectors reddit thread, supposedly they sent out an email newsletter saying "The difference from the retail release is that it'll come with a special cover art". Hopefully it's something that someone else can confirm... But if there is going to be a retail one, I'll wait for that.
On the topic of the names, tried looking it up in Japanese, which should know any weird pronunciations that exist. Apparently VII is said "Victory Two", and its VR remake-sequel "VIIR" is "Victory Two Realise".
As for a physical release, seems Idea Factory likes only releasing limited physicals through Limited Run Games for the Switch lately... They are doing one for Neptunia VII, available until the 30th, but it's $55 (~£42) once you add shipping to UK. And since they decided to make UK and US different versions, you'll need a US eShop account for DLC too.
Reading the article about this on the Japanese Nintendo site, seems there is a physical version too, 'available at shops selling video games nationwide'.
The digital version is a lot more accessible if you don't live in Japan though, would probably never have seen one if there wasn't a digital version.
It looks like a more eyecatchy version of the Software Catalogues they've been doing for at least a few years now, so it probably doesn't mean anything for the west. Though, Nintendo did go sending everyone those Games Radar things around Christmas time last year...
@ryancraddock Looks like you missed the other 5 games listed at the bottom of the page? There's 10 added in total.
Looking at this set of rewards, it does seem like an evergreen/best-of selection. The final set of Wii U discounts had some tells that were obvious in hindsight, despite not actually being called out as the final set, and these look very similar.
A large,
evergreen selection,
with plenty of repeats,
which had a longer expiry than usual. (Note how the new discounts expire 1st January, despite there being no discounts expiring 1st November/December)
So I think we may be seeing the final set of 3DS rewards.
It's great to see all this, rare to see such an in-depth look into sales figures, let alone sales figures at all for digital games.
When did I buy it... looks like in the bit labeled -51%, and I enjoyed it at least. Why then...? It was the first sale I saw it in on the eShop.
Won't be getting the physical though, it'd end up £50 or more with shipping and customs to the UK. :s
Wonder if there'd ever be a triple pack physical or something with all three of the mural icons... (I doubt it though)
Death Squared... I guess not liking that name may be why it got retitled 'Rorororo' (ロロロロ) in Japan, though that kinda looks like just some censored/missing text in itself... (Characters the Switch doesn't support tend to show up as squares xD)
Also what was that alcohol reference? Looks like the UK eShop has it as a 3+ with no content warnings.
I have to wonder what the back cover of these games say. Is there an "Importer in the EU: ..." credit, listing someone other than Yetee? If so, that'd imply they were already in the EU (= should never have had customs issues) but were then sent to US and sent back to EU, so for all we know, the VAT could have been charged twice?
I don't know how anyone would go about proving that, but surely if it's an EU market product, it shouldn't have customs charges??
Unfortunately customs charges are something regular importers are used to. It's the £8 service charge (or even more with other couriers) that is the real pain.
If you order from play-asia, look for the option labeled "DDP" - you can pre-pay the VAT at checkout, though UK orders are incorrectly charged 21% VAT, so it depends on the value whether paying 21% or the £8 service charge is cheapest. Play-asia ships everything to the EU, pre-paid and non-prepaid, to the same place (Post NL?), so I'd expect anything non-prepaid to be noticed and charged there. (They put a sticker on it to tell Royal Mail it hasn't paid customs)
It's always great to find your parcel slipped through customs, but I feel like it's not going to last much longer. America's pushing for the world to start sending customs data electronically, meaning computers will be able to identify every parcel that 'should' be charged.
@Heavyarms55 The English localisation removed all hint of it, but plenty of the random generic trainers are actually inserts based on real people connected with the Pokémon franchise. The useless Wobbuffet trainer for example is named after James's Japanese voice actor in the Japanese anime. But... being injokes still doesn't make them any more useful.
The game started working at 1am BST.
Seems very reminiscent of Pokémon Shuffle on the 3DS, though the microtransaction demand has definitely stepped up.
In Shuffle you could keep replaying old levels to gain coins and EXP; but in this you can't, the only choice is to do the next level.
Once a day, if you do an online check-in (days run 7am BST-7am BST, just like Shuffle) you get a party invite which lets you play two repeat levels to get a tiny amount of acorns/EXP, but that's it. (Of course, you can pay a weekly subscription to get a second invite per day.)
For anyone who is interested in trying it, there's also a different Pikachu exclusively for doing 5 online check-ins within the first 10 or so days.
I know of one sorta similar case for the 3DS; the Final Fantasy Explorers Japanese 3DS themes were mixed up originally. The Amazon code gave you the limited edition theme, and the limited edition code gave you the Amazon theme. After a week or so, they did an update that swapped the two, so the wrong theme would 'update' itself to be the right theme. But even now, years later, the theme shop images still show pictures of the wrong themes. xD The themes in question: https://nintendoeverything.com/final-fantasy-explorers-to-receive-two-3ds-themes-as-pre-order-bonus/
@Anjanath_Fang
Japan's release date is specifically 'the night of the 17th', and night in Japan starts around midday here, so yeah... may not be until 2pm.
@TG16_IS_BAE
Haven't played it in years but there was a lot of things that annoyed actual players when it launched.
Getting to max level takes an incredibly long time, there were bots to do that instantly. New features tend to be rolled out to higher leveled players first.
You get coins by taking control of gyms, but you can only interact with them while you're nearby; spoofers could just instantly visit every gym nearby and take them all over at say, 2am when nobody's going to head outside to actually be near the gym, then earn coins all night.
Your country doesn't have specific Pokémon at all? A rare Pokémon spawned tens or hundreds of miles away? Just spoof the location to catch them easily from home.
Etc, etc. I think all of that gets warnings if you do it now.
Nook Miles Ticket... Needed to go to mystery islands Cutting board and ironwood dresser... Both needed to craft ironwood kitchenette. Fish bait... Needed to regularly spawn pier fish.
That first list is nearly all gateway items to do something else.
"Switch titles that currently have no digital option, such as Nintendo's Labo range and Ring Fit Adventure."
There are actually digital copies for these, though they're not going to be easy to get outside Japan. Nintendo Japan's online store sells copies with the cart replaced with a download code. Their stated filesizes: Variety Kit: 1.2GB, Robot Kit: 1.2GB, Drive Kit: 1.5GB, VR Kit: 3.4GB, Ring Fit: 2.8GB
As for the actual question, I'd be against it as I do prefer physical copies wherever possible.
@GameOtaku Doubt it's related, but... I remember distinctly one of the UK Liminality DVDs having an error in the OP subs that went something like: "We've got two high school girls" / "stacked up inside my empty body" / "That's how a man becomes a man" (from memory)
The 'We've got two high school girls' part was copied from part of a conversation a few minutes later, retranslating from Japanese it should've said something like: "One by one, memories stacked up inside my empty body" xD
Sounds bizarre. Even just calling it 'a store' kinda makes them sound bigger than they are, it seems it's actually random roaming carts that only started about 3 weeks ago, selling boxes of face masks for 2000 yen. (These too were supposedly 'at a loss') To actually buy from them they wanted people to follow them on social networking and post about their #SellingSwitchesAtALoss. But yeah, a games console really doesn't seem like something to buy from a random cart.
Seems they've posted their side of the story on twitter, which is basically:
We were doing this as a way to advertise, considering the 'loss' an advertising cost. As a small store we need to advertise however we can.
We didn't buy them at 24k yen, and uploaded images of receipts of buying 6 Switches at 52k yen from scalpers on Amazon. We thought people would appreciate being able to buy them at 45k, it's still cheaper than the current resale price of 50-52k.
The reports of the saleswoman crying surrounded by police were from when three police officers tried to force the stall to shut down. But the officers were miseducated on the law and didn't know the difference between street vendors and mobile stalls, and as a mobile stall, we didn't need a street vendor's road use permit; the police left after they were corrected on this.
When it's a game suddenly disappearing in Europe only, it's usually always PEGI to blame. By a cached version of Nintendo UK's site, it seems it was initially given PEGI 3. Blood, violence and guns in a PEGI 3 does sound like a misrating.
It's happened often enough before — Deltarune, To the Moon, etc were initially given PEGI 3 then removed and returned with higher ratings.
Another translator confirming it's not 'all languages' but 'all the words', referring to the script. “『MOTHER』のことば”をすべて収録した本 -> A book that contains all of "the words of MOTHER"
Also should point out that "scheduled to arrive before the end of this year." is more 'scheduled to arrive around Christmas.' (ただいま、今年の年末の発売をめざし) — 'at' the end of the year and 'before' the end of the year are different things.
Except for 'DreamLand' there, all of it seems like it could just be related to some save backup feature.
Which now has me wondering, maybe the save backup/restore thing they've teased is going to be... the Dream Suite.
After all, it is a 'feature specific to AC' that let you upload your save.
@Coach_A
I've had an option to abandon my balance, all ~£0.007 of it at the time.
It seems both 'you can abandon your balance' and 'you can't change as you have balance' happen to people.
Most 'You can't change...' reports I've seen have been about trying to switch back from US, so maybe that's just a US thing?
eShop codes so far have always started with [number/A/B/C/D] and have the 2nd digit be a number. Having it loop letter-letter-number five times makes it seem a bit too ordered to seem like a random key. Though who knows what it actually means.
@BulbasaurusRex Swapping confirm/cancel for the west is a specifically Sony thing. Nintendo games usually use A=confirm, B=cancel everywhere, so it's usually just devs wrongly applying Sony's button swap that causes the problem.
Japanese Switch Dark Souls uses A=confirm, B=cancel, Western Switch Dark Souls uses B=confirm, A=cancel. Japanese Switch Sword Art Online:HR uses A=confirm, B=cancel, Western Switch Sword Art Online:HR uses B=confirm, A=cancel. I've even seen some eShop demos which use B=confirm, A=cancel only if the console language is English.
I haven't played Shovel Knight, but I looked up its JP 3DS/WiiU manuals, and it seems Shovel Knight uses A=confirm, B=cancel by default in Japan. (though I don't know if JP versions suffer from similar bugs) So even Shovel Knight, a western game developed with the buttons backwards, was corrected for Japan.
It's a great find, this is amazing to look through. Can't understand the code, but the comments seem very real, written in a mush of English and Japanese. There's even multiple different revisions of Blue's English translation in there, the stones were apparently food at one point in time (Fire Kimchi?!), and more.
There don't seem to be many references to a pink version, so I don't know how far it was legitimately considered, but there's at least three files with a comment about it.
There's enough stuff that it's very unlikely to be fabricated, though obviously I can't say for sure every single line and comment is authentic.
@Heavyarms55 I found a v1.1.0 text dump. Finding which file has an English line, I can find the corresponding Japanese in the corresponding Japanese file.
You can actually change the language for New Horizons by changing the Switch language, but you need to close the game and restart the Switch. So yeah it'd be very hard to know if lines are exact matches without a text dump.
@Heavyarms55
Both dialogues (art gallery, Brewster) have been there since v1.1.0 at least, the day 1 update.
I wonder if it's something like the translators weren't told which bits were being held back for later release, and added Brewster in lines which didn't have him.
I found two dialogues about Brewster.
This one (17 cups of coffee is 3 too many) — in Japanese was 'I've still got lots of energy! I was just thinking about what I'm gonna play next,'
There's another reference too.
I'm not sure how to trigger it, but it's in a file full of dialogue about different times (dinnertime, sleeping, March).
In English:
'I guess I'm not very mature because folks keep saying, "You're not very mature!"
So I've been tryin' to come up with ways to be more mature! I'm a grown up! I gotta act like it!
One mature thing I started doing is making coffee to drink with my morning snacks!
But my coffee is the WORST! It's just angry hot black water!
I gotta be doin' something wrong! Brewster makes good coffee. I'll ask him what kinda socks he uses.'
(Japanese version is basically: 'I've been trying to grow up, so I've been trying mature things...
like black coffee! If I can down black coffee, I'll be mature... But when I drink it before bed, I can't get to sleep.')
(Keep it to yourself, but the [island] Museum is designed pretty great.
Certainly, it's picturesque no matter how you look at it!
And I have no eye for art, so for me to think that, it must be good, right?
If you've never been, you should take a look for yourself!)
It's meant to be a line bragging about the local island having a museum when you're visiting another island, and is for 8/8 JP personalities and 7/8 English personalities, but somehow one personality's English text is completely different.
It really does seem like 'whoops, we put line 26[art gallery brag]'s text in line 25[museum brag] by mistake', then they redacted line 26 and it got left in.
Given that even the delayed physical had at least two print runs in Japan(with DLC/without DLC), 120k does seem quite low. Hopefully it will do better on Steam, especially since 3.0.0 is supposed to help fix the awful drop rates.
Nintendo's Japanese site lists full patch notes, main bug fixed in this was that sometimes if you invited an animal off someone elses's island, they'd just disappear and Tom Nook wouldn't let you do anything with the plot they were supposed to go in, you'd end up stuck with a useless empty plot nobody would use.
@AhabSpampurse @Naddyks The game even tells you "Maybe wielding a net will make you less likely to faint..." Even though it's actually the opposite, and they don't attack unless you're holding a net...
@stevenw45 A message from ACNH seen in a datamine: "The system is set to a date outside the supported range. Please close the game from the HOME Menu and restart after setting a date between 1/1/2000 and 12/31/2060."
@ShadJV The check as described can only identify 'has the game's executable data been changed'. It's not about the save data at all. Though we've been told there's going to be some limited way of restoring saves from the server, so ACNH is going to be uploading whole saves at some point in the future; which means they'd definitely be able to check for unreleased items then.
"noting that there is now code which verifies the authenticity of your save data." What the tweet says is that they're verifying the game's executable data in memory. So, it's more like they can tell if you're running an edited/modded copy of the game, or have some cheats applied; as a potential example, changing all prices to 0 would definitely be caught by this.
Though, I wouldn't be surprised if they are also checking saves somehow.
@Dohogerse The Japanese page has a chart showing Bunny Day -> doesn't need NSO subscription. But you apparently do need a free Nintendo Account though.
Already managed to find a datamine of the event, so now I know everything about the event except the actual numbers needed to complete it. Wouldn't be surprised if it took several days of play though. given the 12 day duration.
They've turned this into a very complicated mess judging by that page. Basically no access unless you ask the server and the server says 'okay, it's going on now, I'll let you in'. Seems like they really are going out of the way to make the events live-only and that's it. I wonder how exactly the events will play, hoping they don't go with Pocket Camp's style. (Mainline AC events usually don't last 12 days...)

Fish bait... Needed to regularly spawn pier fish.
That first list is nearly all gateway items to do something else.
Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?
Re: Game Featuring Nudity And Sexual Content Launches On Switch With 'E For Everyone' Rating
@GameOtaku
Doubt it's related, but...
Re: Random: Japanese Scheme To "Smash" Switch Scalpers Doesn't Quite Go According To Plan
Sounds bizarre.
Even just calling it 'a store' kinda makes them sound bigger than they are, it seems it's actually random roaming carts that only started about 3 weeks ago, selling boxes of face masks for 2000 yen. (These too were supposedly 'at a loss')
To actually buy from them they wanted people to follow them on social networking and post about their #SellingSwitchesAtALoss.
But yeah, a games console really doesn't seem like something to buy from a random cart.
Seems they've posted their side of the story on twitter, which is basically:
Re: SNK Gals' Fighters Mysteriously Removed From The European eShop
When it's a game suddenly disappearing in Europe only, it's usually always PEGI to blame.
By a cached version of Nintendo UK's site, it seems it was initially given PEGI 3.
Blood, violence and guns in a PEGI 3 does sound like a misrating.
It's happened often enough before — Deltarune, To the Moon, etc were initially given PEGI 3 then removed and returned with higher ratings.
Re: Shigesato Itoi's Company Announces The Mother Project - Includes Book And "Other News" Before The End Of 2020
Another translator confirming it's not 'all languages' but 'all the words', referring to the script.
Re: A Cool Animal Crossing: New Leaf Feature Might Be Coming To New Horizons
Except for 'DreamLand' there, all of it seems like it could just be related to some save backup feature.
Which now has me wondering, maybe the save backup/restore thing they've teased is going to be... the Dream Suite.
After all, it is a 'feature specific to AC' that let you upload your save.
Re: Nintendo Just Launched Two Special Fire Emblem Game Variants On Switch In Japan
@Coach_A
I've had an option to abandon my balance, all ~£0.007 of it at the time.
It seems both 'you can abandon your balance' and 'you can't change as you have balance' happen to people.
Most 'You can't change...' reports I've seen have been about trying to switch back from US, so maybe that's just a US thing?
Re: Random: Paper Mario: Sticker Star's Serial Key Mystery Remains Unsolved 7 Years Later
eShop codes so far have always started with [number/A/B/C/D] and have the 2nd digit be a number.
Having it loop letter-letter-number five times makes it seem a bit too ordered to seem like a random key.
Though who knows what it actually means.
Re: Random: Finally, You Can Play Dark Souls On Switch The Way Nature Intended
@BulbasaurusRex
Swapping confirm/cancel for the west is a specifically Sony thing.
Nintendo games usually use A=confirm, B=cancel everywhere, so it's usually just devs wrongly applying Sony's button swap that causes the problem.
Japanese Switch Dark Souls uses A=confirm, B=cancel,
Western Switch Dark Souls uses B=confirm, A=cancel.
Japanese Switch Sword Art Online:HR uses A=confirm, B=cancel,
Western Switch Sword Art Online:HR uses B=confirm, A=cancel.
I've even seen some eShop demos which use B=confirm, A=cancel only if the console language is English.
I haven't played Shovel Knight, but I looked up its JP 3DS/WiiU manuals, and it seems Shovel Knight uses A=confirm, B=cancel by default in Japan. (though I don't know if JP versions suffer from similar bugs)
So even Shovel Knight, a western game developed with the buttons backwards, was corrected for Japan.
Re: Random: Finally, You Can Play Dark Souls On Switch The Way Nature Intended
Yep, Dark Souls was the first thing I thought of when hearing about the new feature.
The weird games like Dark Souls which swap A/B for the western release are really bizarre. I guess some devs are too used to Sony practices.
Re: Rumour: Pokémon Yellow Datamine Unearths Potentially Scrapped Pokémon Pink Version
Re: Animal Crossing Villagers Are Now Referencing Brewster, Is A Coffee Shop Update Imminent?
@Heavyarms55
I found a v1.1.0 text dump. Finding which file has an English line, I can find the corresponding Japanese in the corresponding Japanese file.
You can actually change the language for New Horizons by changing the Switch language, but you need to close the game and restart the Switch. So yeah it'd be very hard to know if lines are exact matches without a text dump.
Re: Animal Crossing Villagers Are Now Referencing Brewster, Is A Coffee Shop Update Imminent?
@Heavyarms55
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Villager Potentially Leaks Museum Art Gallery Update
Interesting.
I checked out the Japanese equivalent, and it's completely different.
Re: Dragon Marked For Death Is No Longer Exclusive To The Nintendo Switch
Given that even the delayed physical had at least two print runs in Japan(with DLC/without DLC), 120k does seem quite low.
Hopefully it will do better on Steam, especially since 3.0.0 is supposed to help fix the awful drop rates.
Re: Xenoblade Studio Monolith Soft Actually Helped Out With Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Yep, spotted 'MONOLITH SOFTWARE INC.' in the credits.
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 1.1.2 Is Available Now, Patch Notes To Follow
Re: Latest Update For Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fixes Major Issue Impacting Game Balance
@AhabSpampurse @Naddyks
The game even tells you "Maybe wielding a net will make you less likely to faint..."
Even though it's actually the opposite, and they don't attack unless you're holding a net...
Re: You Can't Access Seasonal Events In Animal Crossing: New Horizons By Time Travelling
@stevenw45 A message from ACNH seen in a datamine:
"The system is set to a date outside the supported range.
Please close the game from the HOME Menu and restart after
setting a date between 1/1/2000 and 12/31/2060."
Re: Nintendo Is Already Fighting Off Hackers In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
@ShadJV
The check as described can only identify 'has the game's executable data been changed'. It's not about the save data at all.
Though we've been told there's going to be some limited way of restoring saves from the server, so ACNH is going to be uploading whole saves at some point in the future; which means they'd definitely be able to check for unreleased items then.
Re: Nintendo Is Already Fighting Off Hackers In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
"noting that there is now code which verifies the authenticity of your save data."
What the tweet says is that they're verifying the game's executable data in memory.
So, it's more like they can tell if you're running an edited/modded copy of the game, or have some cheats applied; as a potential example, changing all prices to 0 would definitely be caught by this.
Though, I wouldn't be surprised if they are also checking saves somehow.
Re: You Can Now Access Your Nintendo Switch eShop Wish List Online
Wonder if this is why any delisted games were deleted from my wish list recently.
Re: You Can't Access Seasonal Events In Animal Crossing: New Horizons By Time Travelling
@Dohogerse
The Japanese page has a chart showing Bunny Day -> doesn't need NSO subscription. But you apparently do need a free Nintendo Account though.
Re: You Can't Access Seasonal Events In Animal Crossing: New Horizons By Time Travelling
Already managed to find a datamine of the event, so now I know everything about the event except the actual numbers needed to complete it.
Wouldn't be surprised if it took several days of play though. given the 12 day duration.
Re: You Can't Access Seasonal Events In Animal Crossing: New Horizons By Time Travelling
