I just read the Famitsu article, and that “all languages” quote is a bad translation (probably from Google). Where Google Translate says “All Languages” it should say “Every Word.”

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. Mother/Earthbound Beginnings and Mother 2/Earthbound are probably the 2 biggest 1st party omissions from the NES and SNES Online services on the Switch. And I don't think that's by accident at this point. If I had to bet, a Mother/Earthbound Trilogy release will be coming to the Switch soon, which would indeed include the first official localization of Mother 3. I think something like this has been inevitable for some time now, and looks like we're finally starting to see it start to play out.

Set yourselves up for disappointment now, it’ll make it easier when you know what doesn’t happen.

And if it does, you’ll be all the happier. Temper those expectations...

@Ooyah But as the article states the trailer "also teases "other news" before the end of this year related to Mother." Surely if game news is coming, it's gonna be a part of this 'other news' portion. It would logically be the last things to announce as they'd be the most exciting part for most people interested.

My mind has officially been broken. Imagine a Mother trilogy getting revealed at the E3 replacement right after the Mario remakes. People would loose their minds over the pure nostalgic hype, and it doesn't seem completely impossible for this series of events to happen.

But that said, I think Mother Trilogy is happening... And not gonna get localized.

You guys forgot to mention that Earthbound was not only available to download for the 3DS starting from 2016, but it's also on the Snes classic.

Guys, Google translate is not a true substitute for a human translator. Language isn't like math, it's not a 1 to 1 conversion. Here's an example:

卵を食べた。If I were to translate that 1 to 1 it would be "egg ate." instead of "I ate eggs." as would be natural in English.

I'm sure as AI is improving eventually bilingual people will be made obsolete. But I still really think that's a long ways off.

I ended up playing Earthbound on my 3DS so it’s annoying not getting the value of this series as part of the online service. I absolutely loved it.

I would buy the collection in an instant, but I’ll temper my expectations.

Why does everyone always get so excited about Mother 3? From what I've seen of it online, there isn't much that justifies the huge response it always gets. I guess I just don't get what's so special about it?

@SwitchVogel most of the magic won't be felt vicariously. The music-based combat system has to be played firsthand to be appreciated, and the story is a slow burn that you won't be pulled into unless you're watching it start to finish. That said, and much as I love the series, it just won't appeal to everyone.

@SwitchVogel People are like "You know that game that was never released around here? It must be great. I heard it's the best in the series!" As years go by, words like "You know", "I heard" and "it must" become realities in people's minds just because it involves something that is not available, something that's far, forbidden, inaccessible. That's how legends are created.
And I don't mean this specific game is bad. It's just what usually happens. Things get bigger than they really are

I'll be tempering my expectations for this, but I still can't help but hope that Mother 3 might make a Switch appearance. I liked EarthBound Beginnings/Mother 1 (used a guide) and loved EarthBound/Mother 2. It's only natural for me to want to play the third, right?

Another translator confirming it's not 'all languages' but 'all the words', referring to the script.
“『MOTHER』のことば”をすべて収録した本 -> A book that contains all of "the words of MOTHER"

Also should point out that "scheduled to arrive before the end of this year." is more 'scheduled to arrive around Christmas.' (ただいま、今年の年末の発売をめざし) — 'at' the end of the year and 'before' the end of the year are different things.

They could easily release an Earthbound Trilogy collection! Just put three roms on the cart, add a menu selection and make a box for it. What’s holding them back?

@link3710 Neither the DKC trilogy or Mario RPG were first party offerings though. I agree they should be on the service, but my point from the start was that the Mother games are the biggest FIRST PARTY offerings missing from the services, and that still stands.

@duffmmann Nintendo fully owns the rights to DKC trilogy and they are 100% first party, ever since Rare sold them their share of the rights as part of the deal with Microsoft for Nintendo to exit the company.

At this point do I even want an official mother 3 translation? We've had the fan translation for 12 years. Going with another version at this point would be weird. I mean, what if they change the magypsies or literally anything else?

Hell, I'd be happy with an art book? Won't be buying a Japanese script though...well, maybe in the distant future as I brush up on my Japanese, ha. I'm playing a fan translated GBA cart of Mother 3 right now, it's absolutely great. Playing on a SP AGS101 as well, hooray! A trilogy release would be great. I don't know why they don't have more interest in the whole Mother series really, it's very unique and engaging while still playing like a classic RPG. Earthbound was great (beat it 6ish months ago), and I'm sure I'll be amazed by the time I beat Mother 3 (it's already amazing). Mother 1 is more like the first Final Fantasy for me - I really like the whole design, aesthetic and gameplay, but it's too oldschool, tough and cryptic lol. Could probably play through it ez though with all the newschool savestates/rewind business. I'm not above using that to play/experience classic games I don't want to spend months mastering.

@Xansies I feel they'd change a lot. There's a lot of weird stuff in that game, and I'm only around halfway through! Just rate it T, it'll probably sell more!

@link3710 Yeah, Nintendo owns the games now, but they were still Rare developed, they didn't launch as first party titles. My point has always been that these were the biggest first party offerings the systems received that aren't on the service. DKC absolutely should be on the service, but I do not consider it to be in the camp of what I'm talking about here.

@PickledKong64 I've beat the fan translation, this isn't about me hoping to play the game in English. This is about me speculating that a real translation is officially in the works. I know Nintendo has a history of shutting down fan projects, but I don't take their resistance of shutting down a fan translation (a type of project I've never seen them shut down by the way) as an indication that it's not even a remote possibility.

How you make a game series that many people wanted to play but to this day still hadn't legitimately made that possible? C'mon just translate the third game, then put all three Mother games on a Switch cartridge and sell it, that's it. You don't even need to remake or retouch anything. All these extra contents could easily be included with the collection.

Don't do that. Don't give me hope.

I gave up all hope to see anything new about MOTHER games here in the West.
MOTHER 2 is my favourite RPG and it probably, unfortunately, easily, will always be.

25 years of role play gaming haven't changed a thing!
Well... except MOTHER 3, that one came really close. ^^

I know, I know, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Undertale, great stuff came and went, but EarthBound is the true love.

Good to know that an official localization of Mother 3 is officially coming!
