Last month, Ys Origin was confirmed to be releasing on Nintendo Switch. The announcement came shortly after the western reveal of Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, and while we still don't have a release date, it did reveal the existence of two physical editions courtesy of Limited Run Games.
Today, another two physical editions have been announced, this time from Strictly Limited Games. Both companies will now offer both standard, limited physical copies and their own unique Collector's Edition releases. With Limited Run being based in the US and Strictly Limited being based in Europe, this now means you can have your pick of a PAL or NTSC copy of the game.
We've covered the Limited Run Games copies before, so let's jump right in and look at the newly-announced Collector's Edition from Strictly Limited.
The Collector’s Edition will include:
- CE Box
- Game with exclusive reversible cover art
- Origin 2CD Soundtrack
- Acrylic Stand Diorama
- Ys Enamel Pin
- Sticker Sheet
- Bonus Acrylic Card
You can pre-order either the Collector's Edition or the standalone physical edition from Strictly Limited's store here.
So, we're spoilt for choice! Will you be treating yourself to any of the physical editions available, or will you be waiting to download this one from the eShop? Let us know in the comments.

Is this game any good? Only have experience with YS8 and fell in love. This looks quite a bit different tho.
@Dang69 I've not played Origin but like you I fell in love with Ys8 and have been collecting the others in the series. Not disappointed yet.
€30 isn't too bad for a limited Switch game but I'm going to hold off until I see the digital price. It's good it's not a numbered release from Limited Run - means there will be less of a rush to buy it.
Say it with me: Ys Chronicles 1+2, Oath in Felghana, physical release, GET ON IT FALCOM
I already have this game on Vita but shipping from Europe will be a lot cheaper and I really like the cover of the standard edition. So maybe I will buy it for PS4
I really liked this one on Vita, probably my favourite Ys game despite there not even being any Adol.
@nessisonett Adol has all the personality of a Link or Doomguy, so I don't imagine his presence or absence has much of an impact on the gameplay at all.
@PrincessAzunyan Yeah, I love the idea of these special editions, but, functionally, they just end up being more junk to clutter my home. I'd probably only get them if I was a collector, in which case I wouldn't even open them.
@Ralizah Plus the characters in this one do actually have personalities so that helps!
I've pre-order but couldn't find an actual release date or estimate. Does anyone know?
@nessisonett did you like it more than VIII? I though that game was specially good, like way better than the rest of the series XD. The landscape, the exploration, the combat, the story, the OST, the characters... Everything about it is just so freaking good! I just finished it and I want more of it haha.
I think I'll play more games of this series. If the rest of them are half as good as VIII, I'm totally in!
@RPGamer Oh yeah, forgot that part!!! lol
That's cool, but when is someone going to announce Trails In The Sky physical trilogy?
Already ordered the LRG edition.
@PrincessAzunyan im same just gumpf you will chuck in a drawer and forget about.
@the_beaver VIII is the only one I haven’t played, I’ve even played the PS2 one everyone others about. It’s in my backlog on Vita so I’ll probably get round to it after playing the Crossbell Trails games.
Going by a game collectors reddit thread, supposedly they sent out an email newsletter saying "The difference from the retail release is that it'll come with a special cover art".
Hopefully it's something that someone else can confirm...
But if there is going to be a retail one, I'll wait for that.
Pre-ordered the standard version!
@RazumikhinPG Fall 2020, it says.
I do like the diorama but feel would never make any actual use of it. The LRG version has an artbook which I would rather have.
I was like "don't I already have a physical copy of Y's Origin, on PSP?" I turn over and look... no, just three other Y's games, my mistake.
Neat but I usually do not go for any type of special editions.
I'll settle for the standard edition, but yeah, really happy this is coming to Switch.
@PrincessAzunyan I bought the P5 OST, God it's a masterpiece. I might buy TOK if they make it, it's freaking epic.
Nice! Just pre-ordered a regular PS4 version from SLG. Already pre-ordered a special edition from LRG. Ys Origin on PS4 was my entry point to the series and it quickly became one of my favorite series ever. Still my 2nd favorite Ys game behind Ys VIII, I hope we get Oath in Felghana, Seven, Memories of Celceta too since those are all must plays as well. Heck just bring the whole series to everything!
i pre ordered a collector's edition from limited run back in july for the switch. don't care for the ps4 release even though i also own a ps4
This will be my first jump into this series. Looking forward to it!
Already pe-orderded from LRG. I'll probably get it next century.
Not sure yet which cover I like best but I'm stuck with the LRG one I guess.
if limited run is based in u.s. why is the stuff coming from east side of this world?
