The Pokémon Company has teased a new livestream presentation set to air tomorrow, 17th June.
The show is set to be approximately 11 minutes long and will contain information on the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass. The video's description is particularly teasy:
We have Pokémon news.
You want Pokémon news.🤔
It'll be kicking off at 2pm BST tomorrow (so that's 3pm CEST / 6am PDT / 9am EDT). Make sure to check back with us at that time tomorrow to watch it live and see what's revealed.
Of course, tomorrow sees the launch of Pokémon Sword and Shield's first DLC, The Isle of Armor. Should we expect the DLC to drop immediately after the show? What else can we hope to see?
Feel free to go into speculation overload in the comments below.

Due tomorrow ??
Edit: Cross finger for Pokemon Pearl / Diamond / Platinum Remake.
I'll watch but I don't expect anything that'll interest me anymore from the series unfortunately.
It's gonna be a 40 minute stream of a Poke-ball sitting on Masuda's desk because some intern is trolling and told them they were filming, when they weren't.
There's no where it has anything to do with the DLC releasing this week. No way at all. Not a chance. Don't even consider it. If you think it's related, you're clearly drinking way too much fruit juice!
That Pokémon Presents logo reminds me of Sesame Street.
Diamond and Pearl remakes?? A guy can dream...
Are they asking us or telling us we want Pokemon news?
@Heavyarms55 If there's anything related to this weeks DLC it'll probably be like "X pokemon is appearing more often in raids on the isle of armor from now until Y date". (or even just a general announcement that it's on sale)
So, not really anything too exciting.
I wonder what else we could see, seems a bit early for them to go into any more detail on the Crown Tundra.
I don't know why but my expectations going into this feel lower than usual, I'm getting a vibe that it won't be entirely video game related. On the other hand it would make some sense that whatever is going to show up here is what they had planned to reveal at E3.
As annoying as meme templates can be:
Me: "Mom, I want Nintendo news for Smash"
Mom: "Don't worry dearie, we have Nintendo News at home:"
Nintendo News at home:
It's a Jedi Trick. 'You want Pokémon news'.
I didn't know I want Pokémon news. But now I do want it.
So I get dropping information the upcoming days before the game/DLC release to get the hype building, cause GameFreak's done that for as long as I can remember. But the day of the release?...
Pokemon Snap expansion pack fro SW/SH!
I’m guessing probably a lengthy gameplay demonstration of the DLC
Unless they’re going to announce that I can import and use more of my Pokémon from Pokémon Home, I don’t know how inclined I’ll be to drop everything and watch live.
Not meant to be a negatively natured comment but that’s just how I feel.
I actually just beat Shield last night so I can jump right into the expansion when I end up buying it!
Is that emoji... in italics?
@Anti-Matter it states the times in both the article and video.
@Snesionetty I find your comment less interesting.
@WallyWest no one cares what you think of my comment.
I have no prominent desire for Pokemon news (the franchise existing backlog has me covered for years as it is - including already owned but barely scratched Moon and Sword and the even longer owned but still not friggin' STARTED Gold), but more gaming news would be the silliest thing to object to. Not watching the live, but I'll keep an eye on the reports after.
@Snesionetty Oh the irony.
Any Pokémon news, is good news. Hype for the DLC, got it ready to go!
@WallyWest oh the sadness of not being able to handle negative reactions to your favourite thing.
@nhSnork oh you are missing out... if I may be completely honest, for me, Sun and Ultra Sun are the high points in the Pokémon series for me. They just feel so good to play and the story was cool. Plus I much prefer mega evolutions as opposed to dynamaxing.
Anyway, just my two cents! Enjoy!
Detective pikachu 2
Does anyone even remember there's a new detective pikachu coming. I never see anyone mention it.
"The show is set to be approximately 11 minutes long and will contain information on the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass."
Where did you get that information from?
But why would I need new information on the DLCs, when the first one releases tomorrow? I'd rather play it instead of getting spoiled
A new Pokémon Pinball would make my year! The GBA version is one of my all-time favourite video games (and I don't even like pinball in general)
I am hoping for something good.
Don't watch it! It's a trap!
@Anti-Matter lol if you read it it's for the expansion passes lol
I'm not sold on this DLC yet, so I may as well watch this video. What they reveal here, along with reading what others think of the expansion, could help determine whether or not I get it.
Nothing to get excited about, I'm sure
I,'ve been on the fence about picking up sword/shield (especially) with my backlog. I've briefly played a couple of iterations on gba and ds in the past. Is it worth the time of someone not rooted in the old versions?
I'll wait til the actual presentation on to come to the conclusion on whether it's valuable info or not. And maybe I'm playing semantics here. But there seems to be a chance that it's not strictly about the expansion pass. The tweets says it contains info about the expansion pass. Not that it's strictly all about it. Which could mean it contains info about other stuff as well. Which would be a nice surprise
@BigE If you haven't been keeping up to date with Pokemon games... Huh, that's a good question. I'd say you should be fine with it? A lot of it will be new to you, they got rid of HM's, lots of Quality of Life stuff. But my next question is, how up to date are you with gaming in general?
EDIT: Scratch that question. I'll just say as a pokemon fan who's critical of where the games have gone/are going, it's fine within the context of other pokemon games. If all you're doing is comparing it to the DS and GBA games, you should have a good time with it. But within the context of where gaming is in general, it's a bit stagnant. But, again, if you've only played the older games, I think you should be fine? I have a lot to say about it but I still play it.
@BigE I think it's fine to jump into Sword and Shield if you have little to no experience with past titles. I think if your plan is to really invest in the series from here on out, it might be worth it to pick up a more recent title or two. I also suspect we will see future games and remakes that might make going back to a previous generation not necessary. Though personally, I think Black and White and maybe the Gen 2 and 3 remakes are worth playing.
Would they really not drop the DLC until the 2pm BST on the day of launch? I was assuming I'd be able to play it first thing tomorrow
Lets hope they announce a refund policy change... I joke, or do I...?
@UmbreonsPapa Except for the Gen 3 remake, I second this. Black and White 1 & 2 is where the franchise peaked for me.
Ok, it makes sense now. The Japanese Pokemon twitter account announced there would be Sword/Shield expansion pass news, all the other teases didn't mention Sword/Shield so I was wondering where the source was.
Given Sword/Shield's starter evolutions were announced post launch, I'd guess this is going into more depth about Isle of Armor. Maybe a tease about Crown Tundra at the end.
It’s probably going to show Pokémon Sleep!
Hurrah, just what I didn't need: A pokemon as the big 2020 holiday title. Wake me up holiday 2021!
So I'm guessing they're not doing Pokemon Directs anymore, huh?
"You want Pokemon news". You know, it's morbidly funny. During almost any other generation I would have agreed with this statement, and ironically they seemed to be far less frequent with updates like this at the time than they have been this past year. Now that they've disappointed in such a major way with Sword and Shield, I can't say "Pokemon news" was among the things I felt I needed right now. The same thing could be said for that Direct they presented mere weeks after Sword and Shield's release announcing the DLC. There seems to be a lot of "who asked for this" Pokemon news this year. Then again, this is the generation where they've had their finger on the pulse of doing every single thing I don't like personally, from what they put into/remove from the game itself to how they promote it, so it makes sense that they would see fit to make regular superfluous announcements every few months reiterating the fact that Sword and Shield exist to everyone who normally love the series and want better games from it but cannot tolerate how truly God-awful the latest game is. This current Pokemon generation can't end quickly enough, it's like watching a loved one make bad decisions.
POKEMON LETS GO GOLD AND SILVER!!! PLEAAAaaase!!!!
Nah....Pokémon is the least series from Nintendo I am interested in. Gimme new games in the Online service!
I know it's "Isle of Armor", but sometimes I still read it as "Isle of Amor".
...One of the negatives of being back at work this week.
@Snesionetty That's your comeback? Pretty weak really.
Far too early for a new generation and I don't think they will launch full on remake (not the Let's Go crap) to compete with the Sw&Sh DLC, so it might be boring as hell. Perhaps they'll show the new Detective Pikachu game for the Switch, maybe Pokemon Sleep and some random thing at the end.
First 10 minutes of the 11 minute presentation will be painstakingly explaining - if you own Pokémon Shield buy the Pokémon Shield DLC, if you own Pokémon Sword buy the Pokémon Sword DLC.
Last minute will be a new Pokeball Plus+ that only works with the DLC, not the base game, b/c reasons.
Is this your big news @Spoony_Tech? It's at least as good as jump rope. 😉
@Yosher lol says 11 mins long lol
For the people that want read..its for the expansion passes and it will be 11 minutes long
just when i tough 2020 couldn't get any worse more ***** Pokemon to make this year even more *****
Pokemon Sleep...
@Anjanath_Fang
Japan's release date is specifically 'the night of the 17th', and night in Japan starts around midday here, so yeah... may not be until 2pm.
@bluesun Yeah it seems likely in that case. That's less than ideal considering I have the day off work! Oh well..
Let's hope for another good side game announcement, because I'm really not looking forward to this DLC at all yet...
@rjejr Definitely not. This is just going over something we already knew was coming. With this launch perhaps we wont see anything more this week. Forgot about that dlc coming out this week. They wont want to bring any big news out this week to spoil it.
Hmmm, why is not called a Pokemon Direct?
@Brydontk I've got 90 games on my sd card and all current gen consoles so fairly up to date
@AlexSora89 That meme is never gonna get old. It is too good.
Fingers crossed for Sinnoh remakes or Let's Go Johto.
Itll be either new unseen pokemon or the reintroduction of mega evolutions, fingers crossed
@UmbreonsPapa, I might have to dig black out, still got it somewhere. Thanks and @brydontk
But what also sucks is, for today right now is the 17th and there is no update for pokemon 😞 I have to wait for every one to catch up
This is already the 4th presentation on this DLC. Enough.
"What will it show?"
Remember the Pokémon conferences held in 2018 and 2019? I bet they were planning one for this year, but they instead decided to do a video presentation. I personally hope for Creatures to show some of their Detective Pikachu 2 project.
As for the Expansion Pass, I wonder if there will be enough content there.
I'm going to assume a pokemon game.
Spoilers, it's related to Isle of Armor. Not sure what they'd want to reveal at the last minute, I'm kind of expecting a quick overview just reminding people it's out tomorrow. Crown Tundra's a ways away, so they can hold off on more details there to focus on what's coming out now. I'm hoping there might be some spin-off news. Pokken, Ranger, or even just something out of the blue would be cool. Also, the usual competitive and Wild Area news.
Outside of the mainline games, I think we're due to learn about how to grab Zarude, and they'll probably talk about the movie to tie into his release. Maybe they'll be bringing over Gen 6 Pokemon to Go. We'll see.
I've kind of lost faith in the pokemon series at this point. Only thing that could interest me here would be Detective Pikachu news.
Fingers crossed for some Pokemon Sleep news. Its been a while since its been mentioned.
Calling it now. Part of the presentation will be about adding more pokemon to the game and paying more money to unlock them
wait, does isle of armor not have a midnight release?
@Dizzard There is a rumor going around that they will announce a 3rd DLC at some point. That might happen. But my bet is still on 40 minutes of Pokeball.
@Heavyarms55 research its only 11 minutes
@Heavyarms55 *11 minutes
@KBuckley27 angry much?
@Henmii its not? bro? DLC is a years support like zelda.....Smash has 6 characters on the way? why u mad?
@BlackenedHalo thanks for sharing let people enjoy things
@EmmatheBest um there is no side game......years worth of dlc
@NintendoPok You do realize my comment was a joke right?
@NintendoPok - Ah, right, forgot you were a time traveler. Or your dad works at Gamefreak. Pick your favorite, while I laugh at you tomorrow morning, because I'm 90% certain they'll be talking about more than just DLC in this presentation.
@WallyWest lol, again no one cares what you think of my comments or 'comebacks'...
@Snesionetty Imagine being this salty you have to reply a day later when the other person has forgot you even exist haha
@WallyWest when someone addresses you, you reply. That's how I was brought up at least. Feel free to walk on.
@NintendoPok,
I just realized its for the already anounced Pokemon dlc. Though next week there's another event, with probably another pokemon game.
The point is: I am not a pokemon guy, and I am not waiting for the smash dlc. All I need is cool new games like Breath of the wild 2, New Metroid, Bayonetta, etc. I am sure they will show something this year (and I hope they release something of that this year), but man, all the waiting. Luckily the new paper mario is on the horizon, maybe they reveal some new stuff after that.
When I see the PS5 reveal with all the cool games (that are still scheduled for this year), I want nintendo to show more aggression. Yes, I know, corona and all. But its on the way out. Sony is waking up. Nintendo should wake up too. But Nintendo business goes so well now, they just keep sleeping.
