There's the chance for a lot of things to make a return in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The art gallery update for the museum was caught out ahead of its release, so what else could be on the way? The dataminer Ninji has a theory that one particular feature from Animal Crossing: New Leaf could soon be making a return in some way or form.
If you choose to read beyond this line, be warned that there may be potential spoilers, although Ninji has said this is by no means conclusive evidence – so please keep this in mind.
Right, with that out of the way, Ninji thinks the Dream Suite could be returning. It's based on evidence of 'DreamID' popping up in Version 1.0.0 of the New Horizons save file, and since then, there's been another dream-related finding in the Version 1.2.0 update labelled 'ActorNetDreamLand'. There's even code that sends a pack of data to Nintendo's servers, which is believed to be related.
Here's the full explanation from Ninji:
The Dream Suite was a building first introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf on the 3DS. It's run by the Tapir, Luna, and allows players to visit other towns or share their own in a dream. Earlier this week, Ninji detailed a number of other exciting potential features that could be coming to New Horizons.

As long as one can swim and fish underwater that is good...
I am happy for all animal crossing fans that they adore this game, I tried new leaf and realised they are not for me. Personally I can’t wait for whatever the next big Nintendo release is, anything but ac! X x x x x x
So, if swimming is the thing and @Anti-Matter ‘s excitement for shirtless boys is correct. This might mean Switch’s number one trend continues - nipples.
First we got Link’s nipples in BotW, then Mario’s nipples in Oddyssey, now we might get villager nipples!
Nintendo is on fire!
@CowCatcher Nobody points at a gun at you to force you to read it, though.
@Kienda
And six pack if necessary. 🤣
Just kidding. 😜
I love the pool item I redeemed with Nook Miles, but I was rather disappointed that I couldn’t sit inside it: it’s a visually appealing display piece, without the expected functionality. Swimming could remedy this. Probably not, but swimming is such an obvious mechanic to implement into New Horizons because you’re literally residing on an island surrounded by water and I hope it becomes possible soon.
@CowCatcher replace every minute you spend on reading about videogame news with playing videogames instead.
Solved.
@CowCatcher if you didn't click the article would this have been spoiled for you?
@CowCatcher Indeed there should be a spoiler warning in the title of the article. Or a tag, or something like "data mined" so that we could see before clicking the article that there is a possible spoiler inside.
@C-Olimar @RileyR @ReWane If it was something announced by Nintendo it would have been a good article, now it's just a rumor (data mine) which takes all the fun out of it. These rumors should be tagged like I mentioned in my previous reply.
I've been wanting SOMETHING like the dream suite to come back. Being able to visit instance of people's islands without them having to be playing would be nice! Also, in game mini-games. We need something to do, we can't just keep playing hide and seek...
Meh, that was one New Leaf feature I never really made use off. Though it could be a nice way for streamers and YouTubers to show their islands.
@CowCatcher If you don't want to be spoiled, why are you on a site about game news? They even warned you...
This would help alleviate the loss of streetpass on NH. I really liked being able to look at strangers houses and order things from the catalog before I had access to them. Letting players upload even just their houses to the cloud to let other players look around them would be smart.
Except for 'DreamLand' there, all of it seems like it could just be related to some save backup feature.
Which now has me wondering, maybe the save backup/restore thing they've teased is going to be... the Dream Suite.
After all, it is a 'feature specific to AC' that let you upload your save.
@sanderev is that not clear from the title of the article?
Why would Nintendo announce that a new feature 'might' be coming to a game?
@CowCatcher yeah I get that can be annoying. As others have said, you can prevent this by avoiding gaming news sites - or not clicking articles that reveal data mined details.
AFAIK Nintendo Life don't often tend to reveal spoilers in article titles, so you could definitely keep using this website if you exercise caution.
@CowCatcher
You can choose not to read the articles relating to the game that are clearly marked as spoilers.
@CowCatcher literally everything post release has been returning features. These aren't surprises. Believe me, I'm waiting for surprises
Personally, glad data miners do reveal things because Nintendo has a habit of wanting to classify every bit of info on every game worse than an X-file until they are ready to show things in their "Directs." It gets a bit patronizing after a while (disclaimer: in my opinion).
@muscpt I totally agree and I certainly don't consider stuff like this to be spoilers. While I try to avoid spoiling thingd for others if I can help it, I find spoiler culture in general obnoxious and there's really no pleasing that crowd. Mention something they consider a spoiler in the headline and they'll gripe about it, perhaps rightfully so, but then bury the spoiler and they'll find a reason to gripe about that too. Very tiresome.
It's sad the game never launched with these features.
I think there's a good chance that all of the features (the coffee shop, Museum Shop, that rumored second upgrade for Nook's Cranny, vegetables, swimming, Dream Suite, etc.) will be introduced over time, perhaps as seasonal/quarterly updates over the first year at least. Of course I really hope Nintendo will support this game for even longer than that because there is just so much potential. Here's an updated personal Wish List:
1) The ability to create and arrange diagonally (bridges, paths, waterfalls, buildings, etc.) would essentially double the amount of layout options.
2) Swimming
3) The coffee shop, Museum shop, Celeste's Observatory, Dream Suite, etc.
4) Brewster, Kapp'n, and more classic NPCs
5) More fish, bugs, and fossils to collect
6) Terraces (think 1/2 or 1/3 the size of a cliff) which you can place rows of plants or items on) The ability to terraform another level higher
8) Add caves with their own resources to find
9) More Nook Miles island types (including volcanic) with unique resources
10) Raise the limit (currently 8 each) for inclines and bridges to enable players to create more complex islands
11) Vegetables (as rumored earlier), more fruit types (banana, durian, etc.).
Dream Suite kinda sucks tbh.
Give us Brewster, Swimming, and Tortimer (and the mini games he comes with)
@CowCatcher
"I guess we arent going to be allowed to have any surprises in this game."
It is still prediction.
Who know if it will be happen.
And don't you happy if you hear something that possibly a good news to hear ?
Being surprised by something that you will never know all the time it's not fun.
Would you like to realize by yourself something that you never expected before and when you already realized something that possibly will turn you off with the new things you have experienced, will you feel upset for being surprised by something unexpected ?
People just need to stop and publications need to stop giving them attention. I agree that not everything needs to be spoiled by hackers who want to break and get things in advance. Also asking someone not to engage in their favorite sites or hobby due to others lack of self-control or desire for clicks is getting things backwards.
@Darknyht
Just don't take it seriously when you hear something like that.
Assume it was a rumour as something that will really happen.
If it does happen as the rumour then good to hear.
But if it doesn't, at least we will feel a little bit disappointed rather than feel extremely disappointed.
@Dragonslacker1
You don't need to click and reply this article to express your dislikeness about Animal Crossing even after you have ever tried before.
I have ever heard you said like this before on previous Animal Crossing article.
Good for you if you want to wait something else from Nintendo.
@AtlanteanMan the fame should have launched with these though. No excuse not to
@Darknyht no, discipline is virtuous and lack of it is no reason to ask others to practice it for you. NintendoLife is not emailing its members with this information, on the contrary.
CowCatcher should learn from this, he's responsible for his own actions.
Funny coincidence, I was just revisiting New Leaf yesterday and was thinking how cool it'd be if we got this feature. I do really love it. It's like going into the Matrix except a lot less stressful. 😂
@CowCatcher,
I think we knew most stuff was coming, it was just a question of when, take the museum for instance, from my first visit I knew there was going to something up hose stairs, as why else even have them?, not really spoilers.
@Anti-Matter yeah that’s cool, its just as a non fan I don’t get it, I think it was yesterday when they said something about changing tarantula spawn rates, my first reaction is so what. X x x x x maybe I shouldn’t read the articles but I like to stay aware x x xAnyway happy gaming stay safe x x x x x
...but why?
we can already visit other peoples islands...
so why would we need a specific dream version of it?
@CowCatcher You chose to click on the article and read it. No one forced the info into your brain. You're 100% at fault here.
This comment thread is hilarious. People complaining about possible spoilers in an article whose title clearly indicates said possible spoilers will be discussed yet doesn't disclose what they will be in said title at all. Reader clicks article and is mad they read possible spoilers.
Some people like to know what could be coming. Others don't. Titles like these are beyond vague in describing what the spoiler but is clear that it is a rumor/spoiler is so it leaves it entirely up to the reader to proceed. Can't blame a website for your lack of self control.
@DragotheKomodo I used the Dream Suite a lot in New Leaf. it's a nice way to freely roam a friend's or non-friend's island and see their designs without them having to be online at the same time. As the creator, you can share your creativity with people without the worry of them destroying anything or stealing your fruit and flowers.
@DragotheKomodo
It can be used for streamers, famous people, and just anyone to share their island and not have to jstand there while waiting for people to enter the island and look around. And don't have to be online for any of it (you just upload island and others can take a look at their own time)
You can enter random islands to see how they design it.
I wonder if you’re able to visit any island this time or is it going to be all code based?
@AtlanteanMan Bridges are the one thing that CAN be placed diagonally!
... Agreed on all the rest.
If they do add the Dream Suite, I hope it can be accessed without an online subscription.
First animal crossing so anything sounds cool. However, I would rather some minigames instead.
@Mountain_Man If design codes require online, it's an easy bet dream suite codes will need it too
Bring. Back. Ordinances.
@AtlanteanMan second upgrade for nooks? You mean third? I had the initial upgrade from tent, and then another (just this week) already.
@CowCatcher you could just avoid looking at/for stuff like this
@CowCatcher fair enough
whats next after that; additional construction permits? like ones to modify the beach? maybe some D.I.Y. recipes for building bridges and slopes. I'm tired of paying nook for the bridges and slopes. besides, our first bridge was build with a D.I.Y. recipe. why did he have to take it away?
maybe addition expansions to hour houses. or even better; additional upgrades to some of the buildings on our island.
@NintendoWiiDS probably saving swimming for summer
I’d also love if you could build some of the types of public places seen in Happy Home Designer in the future, especially the restaurant. That would be a pretty interesting addition to the game.
@CowCatcher I mean, we don't need surprises. Most of the stuff is stuff that should've been in the game day one.
@Bermanator
It's about time NH started becoming a fully fleshed out game compared to it's predecessor. This game is like a skeleton of New Leaf. Sure, we got terraforming, Pro Designer, the ability to relocate buildings, and crafting now, but it sucks that on release day, the game is literally missing everything else including events. It all has to be updated in.
And we were even missing the ART GALLERY of all things, lmao?
@CowCatcher "If you choose to read beyond this line, be warned that there may be potential spoilers, although Ninji has said this is by no means conclusive evidence – so please keep this in mind."
You could've just, I don't know, stopped reading at this paragraph. Just a thought.
@CoastersPaul,
You're right about the bridges; I've even placed some diagonally myself. Don't know how I forgot.
@PhilKenSebben,
I'm referring to the Nookington's-sized upgrade from previous installments and which is rumored for ACNH. I didn't count the tent shop but suffice to say one more upgrade than what is available currently.
That would be nice to see it return :3 but I wonder if it's just gonna be offline feature instead of online? Although I dont think that would work lol. Would like to visit peoples homes without the use of internet xD ...buuuut I also wonder what the dream suite is gonna do??
I would like to be swimming back please I love to do that
theyd be dumb to not add a dream suite, the only issue with adding new buildings later on is people needing to readjust their whole island to get it in a spot they want.
dream suite was such a neat feature, and i hope it comes back and inspires more story themed towns like Aika VIllager
@AtlanteanMan Gotcha. This is my first rodeo with this series, so didnt know there was usually one more.
There are a few people I really hope come back.
This dream Suite is one that I liked! Especially when I see some people's designs online.
Another one I hope makes a return is Shampoodle. Harriet can bring new hairstyles and new colors, maybe even highlights and things of that nature!
@brandonbwii
If it works like in New leaf, then yes.
You can get specific codes to someone's island and explore OR just go to a random persons island that was uploaded to the dreams
@Ttimer5 I know but somehow Nintendo has gotten even MORE strict as far as online sharing goes so I don’t know how they’ll implement the Dream Sweet this generation.
This soumds good if true. I think the thing this game is missing really for me is the fact i cant see others islands. I have a few friends on my switch all with animal crossing but as i dont know them personally i cant contact them to arange a tour etc. Although my village at the moment is like a building site as im heavily terraforming it.
this is pretty exciting lets see
