Re: Best Super Mario Games Of All Time

Played a little of World yesterday, and. . .yeah, it's not #1. I still love it, but there are some instances where it's a bit too janky. Still top 5 (and leagues better than SMB3), but not my absolute favorite.

Just got Mario vs. DK for Christmas, and. . .it's fine. I've also played Peach Showtime and Echoes of Wisdom this year, and they're also fine (in fact, Echoes is prob in the top 10 of the 21 mainline Zeldas). 2024 overall was fine.

@sketchturner you should definitely buy a copy of the Switch version. Button controls are an option, Fi is much less intrusive, and the experience is overall better. I didn't even bother with the original, honestly. I've only beat it one time, but never once was I frustrated by it, even during the Tadtones and final Imprisoned fight (though those are still the worst parts of the game). In fact, I think I made a mistake by playing Skyward as my first 3D Zelda and 2nd overall (Links Awakening was first), because Ocarina and Waker, despite still felling amazing, didn't quite have the allure that Skyward had.

That's just me, though.

I think I played more this year than than the previous 13 years of my life (minus Fortnite, Rocket League, and Minecraft) COMBINED. 702 hours on Switch, and that doesn't even cover GBA, Wii, 3DS, or Series X. With that said, my top three most played this year are:
1. Splatoon 3 (Side Order definitely helped)
2. GBA NSO (Amazing Mirror, Minish Cap, Zero Mission, LTTP + FS, SMA3, all three F-zeros, and a dash of Fire Emblem)
3. Kirbys Return to Dreamland Deluxe (how did I spend 60 hours on this? Did I and my friends really play Merry Magoland that long?)

Ah, yes, my favorite kids game, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity.

Also, nice job having the VR Kit on this list 4 years after they stopped making that thing.

In all seriousness, though, I've always said that if it can't be enjoyed by EVERYONE (that is, all ages), it won't be enjoyed by ANYONE.

@DonutPie the fact that Overwatch (a game you can't play anymore) got GOTY shows just how bad 2016 was for gaming. Outside of Planet Robobot and rereleases, the only good things that came out of that year were Doom 2016, Forza Horizon 3, and PvZ GW2 (which, BTW, was infinitely better than Overwatch in every way AND is still fully playable). It's a miracle we got a game as good as this in that dark period, and it's a shame no one gave it the respect it deserved.
