@Yoshi3 actually, Majora broke that tradition. The Oracle games, Four Swords Adventures, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks also didn't use gold covers.
Played a little of World yesterday, and. . .yeah, it's not #1. I still love it, but there are some instances where it's a bit too janky. Still top 5 (and leagues better than SMB3), but not my absolute favorite.
Had this been any previous year, I would've flunked, but since I'm going full Nintendo over the next few years (pray for my soul as I attempt to obtain a copy of Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn), I did pretty good.
@MetalKingShield Nintendo would never retcon their own games. I'd rather we get remakes of Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, and tbh, I don't care if Nintendo FFVII's them (make them different games entirely) as long as they keep the stories intact, because they deserve as much recognition as their prequel.
Just got Mario vs. DK for Christmas, and. . .it's fine. I've also played Peach Showtime and Echoes of Wisdom this year, and they're also fine (in fact, Echoes is prob in the top 10 of the 21 mainline Zeldas). 2024 overall was fine.
@sketchturner you should definitely buy a copy of the Switch version. Button controls are an option, Fi is much less intrusive, and the experience is overall better. I didn't even bother with the original, honestly. I've only beat it one time, but never once was I frustrated by it, even during the Tadtones and final Imprisoned fight (though those are still the worst parts of the game). In fact, I think I made a mistake by playing Skyward as my first 3D Zelda and 2nd overall (Links Awakening was first), because Ocarina and Waker, despite still felling amazing, didn't quite have the allure that Skyward had.
I think I played more this year than than the previous 13 years of my life (minus Fortnite, Rocket League, and Minecraft) COMBINED. 702 hours on Switch, and that doesn't even cover GBA, Wii, 3DS, or Series X. With that said, my top three most played this year are:
1. Splatoon 3 (Side Order definitely helped)
2. GBA NSO (Amazing Mirror, Minish Cap, Zero Mission, LTTP + FS, SMA3, all three F-zeros, and a dash of Fire Emblem)
3. Kirbys Return to Dreamland Deluxe (how did I spend 60 hours on this? Did I and my friends really play Merry Magoland that long?)
@Maxz I would've probably been the same way, but I actually like Schwartz after seeing him play Dewey in Ducktales 2017. Dude stole every scene he was in.
@PinballBuzzbro ok, seriously, those genuinely felt so out of place. Same with the music that played in those levels (though that song is still good in a vacuum).
@VoidofLight keep in mind, this is Illumination, one of the most infamous studios in animation. The fact that the Mario movie was as solid and fun as it was (and yes, I do still think it's worth a watch) is a sheer miracle.
I found this game to not really be all that great, so I never bothered with the OST. I honestly think Kirby 64 and Majora were better N64 picks. Even Pilotwings 64, honestly.
Almost every game that has even an ounce of the creative art displayed by 2007 Nintendo since then is capable of being run on a Nintendo console, usually without issue. Big budget releases are almost always corporate cash grabs.
@DonutPie the fact that Overwatch (a game you can't play anymore) got GOTY shows just how bad 2016 was for gaming. Outside of Planet Robobot and rereleases, the only good things that came out of that year were Doom 2016, Forza Horizon 3, and PvZ GW2 (which, BTW, was infinitely better than Overwatch in every way AND is still fully playable). It's a miracle we got a game as good as this in that dark period, and it's a shame no one gave it the respect it deserved.

Re: Round Up: 'Switch 2' Renders Suggest A Sleek, Classy Successor
Mario 64 is on the music app. Might wanna cover that.
Re: Rumour: Insider Claims That Halo: Master Chief Collection Will Come To 'Switch 2'
@Jeronan honestly, I think most fans would be fine with separate releases for all five games if that's the case.
Re: Rumour: Insider Claims That Halo: Master Chief Collection Will Come To 'Switch 2'
INSTANT BUY
Also, I am a Halo 4 defender and always will be.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Trailer Sheds Light On Its Story
Not me about to blast Pink Ball Activate from Kirby Planet Robobot while riding a Skell.
Re: Talking Point: Everyone Else Is Busy Revealing Switch 2 - What Gives, Nintendo?
@shgamer Fzero alone would make it worth buying.
You know it'll happen 😉
Re: Talking Point: Everyone Else Is Busy Revealing Switch 2 - What Gives, Nintendo?
Keep in mind that we knew about funny screen controller months before E3 2011.
Re: Tencent Labeled A "Chinese Military Company" By US Government
Maybe they know something that we don't. You never know with China 😜
Re: 'Nintendo Music' Adds Another Donkey Kong Soundtrack, Here's Every Song Included
. . .why?
Even as someone who has 3 as their second favorite DKC game, why would you do this?
Re: Digital Foundry Weighs In On 'Switch 2' Motherboard - Just How Powerful Is It?
I just need it to run Nintendo games. That is all I ask.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (4th January)
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.
Linebeck is a dirt bag.
Re: Nintendo's Punch-Out!! Series May Be Dead And Buried For Good
As much as it hurts to say, I genuinely think ARMS has more potential as a franchise.
Re: Random: After Almost 25 Years, Majora's Mask's Blue Underdog Has Finally Nabbed A Racing Win
Cool.
NOW DO IT FOR THE 3DS VERSION.
Re: Talking Point: Our 2025 Nintendo Gaming Predictions
I predict games.
Re: Feature: Biggest Nintendo Gaming Anniversaries Of 2025
I literally just got Metroid Prime Pinball.
Also, NSMB DS is 20 and Kirby Planet Robobot is 10 next year. 😬
Re: New Patent Seemingly Confirms Nvidia 4K AI Upscaling For Switch 2
As long as it's not in the games, I'm good.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link
@Yoshi3 actually, Majora broke that tradition. The Oracle games, Four Swords Adventures, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks also didn't use gold covers.
Edit: and Triforce Heroes
Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time
Even though I've yet to play either, Prime Hunters under Other M is something I will never accept.
Also, Prime Pinball is a genuinely good pinball game.

Re: Random: Sonic 3's Movie Writers Would Love To Adapt Zelda: Wind Waker To The Big Screen
as Palpatine would say:
D E W I T
Seriously, though, I just finished this game, and that ending was freaking nuts. It's not my absolute favorite Zelda, but it might be top 5.
Re: Best Of 2024: 20 Years On, Pikmin 2's Waterwraith Remains Nintendo's Scariest Moment
I have yet to play Pikmin, but I recall this being one of the few things Schafferillas liked about Pikmin 2.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Games For Kids
Ah, yes, my favorite kids game, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity.
Also, nice job having the VR Kit on this list 4 years after they stopped making that thing.
In all seriousness, though, I've always said that if it can't be enjoyed by EVERYONE (that is, all ages), it won't be enjoyed by ANYONE.
Re: Random: New Marvel Rivals Game Mode Bears A Striking Resemblance To Splatoon
Nintendolife playing a non Nintendo console? Blasphemy.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is too good
I think the funniest thing, however, is Jim Carrey referencing the other movie he is most well known for.
Truly, a wonderful, awful idea indeed.

@PikminMarioKirby Ya like jazz?
Re: Mario Movie's Spike Voice Actor On His Possible Return: "I Haven't Heard Anything"
@Yojimbo I would rather it be that than unfunny baby humor and cheap "jokes," which is the usual for Illumination.
