Re: "I'm Excited To Meet You" - Devon Pritchard Makes Her First Public Appearance As President Of NoA

Whoever wrote her script kind of mangled it imo. She’s worked in the games industry a very long time. But her introduction made her seem like she knew nothing of the medium.

I hope she does well. Be a female president in such a male dominated space (both in terms of player and staffer) is going to be tough. And while she shouldn’t have to prove herself to anyone that she knows games specifically because she’s a woman - she will inevitably be forced to. So I hope her PR team knows what they’re doing. Because at Nintendo you can never be quite so sure.

Re: Japanese Charts: What Successor? Switch Hardware Sales Top 100,000

Between the 3 SKUs Nintendo has sold around 35 Million Switch Units.

That's 1 Switch for every 3.5 people in Japan.

For context JUST in Japan the Switch has sold (in millions)

1 - ~85% of the population of Canada. (34/40)
2 - ~ 225% of the entire world's Jewish population. (34/15)
3 - ~ 5% of every left handed person in THE WORLD. (34/800)
4 - ~ 1 Switch for every 7,500 wild tigers in the wild. (34m/4.5k)

Re: Poll: What's The Worst Legend Of Zelda Game?

I think it's sad that people still think so poorly of Zelda 2. It's hard as hell, and has essentially no puzzles. But the combat is super fun, and it frankly is more fun to play for an hour than triforce heroes or the original Gameboy Advance 4-swords.

Plus it was a game from the 80s. It deserves some slack.

Re: Review: Baldo: The Guardian Owls - Exquisite Ghibli-Esque Art Can't Hide Tortuous Gameplay

@AtlanteanMan Yeah I agree as much as I can without having played it myself.

I think it looks pretty okay as a PS2 game. But again look at cool art-styles in the same generation like Wind Waker. This to me looks like Okami with it's very flat textures and expressions. Maybe cool for the time, but it didn't age well (especially the HD port of Okami) and certainly doesn't look great as a brand new game, indie or not.

I think an homage to Miyazaki makes sense in video game form. But it should be an homage to the essence of what makes films like Totoro great and ageless. Totoro being a weird smiling bus didn't make it a great movie. Being both surrealist yet wholly down-to-earth and relatable is what made it a great movie. The writing, tropes, and art-style enhance Miyazaki's visions, they don't MAKE them.

Re: After Months Of 'Switch Pro' Rumours, Nintendo Officially Unveils The Nintendo Switch OLED Model

@Willsy I couldn't disagree more. I've worked in consumer electronics for over a decade. General consumer doesn't care about CPU names our voltage, but the very much care about YoY changes to devices.

Switch came out 4 years ago. 4k was still relatively niche.

But today most new TVs are 4k standard. Consumer doesn't care about the custom Tegra chip, but they Def care about if this new one will give them the new features everyone else touts.

Re: Two Veteran Sonic The Hedgehog Writers Appear To Have Moved On

alwaysasn

Honestly, their writing was totally fine and helped Sonic have a more consistent tone over the last decade.

Buuuuuuut

With Roger Craig Smith gone, and them gone, I'm hoping that this means Sega is finally taking Sonic seriously and switching things up.

The issue was the Boost formula was fun enough but really basic unless you want to spend hours working on your twitch reaction controls.

Lost world was a really cool idea and prob my favourite sonic game to play since Generations. But for every 10/10 level it had some levels that should never have passed an alpha testing stage.

So if they can actually switch things up, bring on devs who worked on proof of concept fan games (Sonic Utopia comes to mind) they might be able to make Sonic games tollerable again.
