I'd also push Old School Musical. It's short, easy to get into, and an absolute blast of a rhythm game. You travel across various 90s games ommages, but do not play them: instead, you just press some buttons to the rhythm while characters are playing the game for you. Miss — and they get hit. Replayability is good: there's an infinite chicken world, and you can try beating the game at higher difficulty levels.
Also, Pico Park is a marvel of co-op multiplayer. It's one of the few (if not the only) games which you can play with 5+ players, and not against each other. Instead you collaborate on solving dozens of platforming puzzles. Each of you has to perform perfectly — which leads to lots of laughs in the process. And all characters are cats!
Finally, Sheepo is a simple and fun metroidvania which I had almost no trouble beating 105% (there's a bonus thing after 100%). It's inventive, doesn't have an attack button, doesn't have frustrating mechanics like wall-jumping in Ori. I liked the feeling of "just one more room before sleep", which bigger games didn't give me. And Sheepo is great for speed-running.
New Switch would still have limits on size, weight, and energy consumption, so I'd expect like ¹⁄₄ of PS4 power. Fine by me, I don't care for realistic visuals. I just want to play Stray on my future Switch console.
I bought it yesterday for the full price, could not wait. And played the first episode. The language is awesome, and the music is good. Not great, but I'm looking forward to other songs.
Such games need to be supported, the more of them - the better.
Haven't played 3D World yet, but I've given up on the Odyssey's Darker Side on the third day of trying. Made it to the flying thing, and I couldn't learn how to fly it properly.
I'm at the last chapter of Bayonetta 1. Still haven't figured how to fight properly, so I'm mashing all the buttons, and it works pretty well at the Easy level. I like the story and 100% gaming experience they tried to do.
Which is pretty obvious: Switch had hardware releases in 2017, 2019 and 2021. The next one would be in late 2023. I agree with sunderev that we won't see Pro before 2025, so it would be again a cosmetic improvement.
@FishyS, try Deemo! It has very easy levels, and you will progress. I too looked for one, and Deemo makes me feel I'm making music, but without being too hard. And there are like 300 songs in different genres. You have to be playing on the touch screen, of course. There's a demo for Deemo
For controllers, Olde School Musical is simple enough, has a story, and music is nice. It's often on sale.
I don't care for content because I'll see it later discussed on NL, but I love the anticipation and the collective watching. Hence directs should stay.
Bought a similar Pokemon advent calendar last December. Had to buy another because kids kept fighting over pokemon figures. Now their room is littered with pokemon. 10/10 will buy another (different) one next time.
@KorGonia I agree, these are good. But the presence of stylus on 3DS made all game authors consider how it's used in their games. And they wouldn't need to ship anythings besides the game.
@steventonysmith why would I read NL reviews if I watched gameplay videos and did my own research for every game? I'd spend few hours on the game itself without needing a review then. I play exclusively on Switch, so I naturally don't care for technical things compared to next-gen consoles and PC, and what has changed (? — the game was published just now).
This review is "by the numbers", meaning I can easily find all the facts mentioned elsewhere. What I expected is how it feels to be played on Switch — and there's virtually nothing on that.
For a person who only has seen some trailers and has no idea what the game is about, this review is very un-informative. I just wonder if I can have a good time logging in for twenty minutes, falling off a cliff a few times, and switching back to whatever I'm playing.
I've no idea what the modes mean, what do you spend in-game money on, and whether it's fun if I don't care about graphics and framerate.
So by the wikipedia, Nintendo had June directs each year since 2012, except for 2016 and 2020, where they made directs only for one line of games (Culdcept and Pokemon).
When they did have a single-game direct in June, it usually followed the regular direct, except once in 2019.
So yeah, it looks like we won't be getting our Direct. But that's fine.
I've got The Somnium Files, both Thomas Was Alone and Solitaire Conspiracy (2 € each, for the first time ever), Celeste, Labirynth City and some more. Great sale. And yesterday found out Life is Strange 3 was 50% off in a shop nearby — got that as well.
Just looked at the not-E3 schedule, and weird thing, the only event that's interesting there is the Wholesome Direct. And maybe Devolver Direct. That's all. Definitely not E3. Like last year, if Nintendo chimes in, they would easily win the show.
Nintendo have already outdid themselves on the announcements, they may well skip the June direct. Xenoblade 3 and Pokemon S&V alone are enough hype to get us to September.
