It's been confirmed Shin-chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation – The Endless Seven-Day Journey (based on the Japanese manga and anime series Crayon Shin-chan) will be getting a western release on the Switch eShop and PlayStation 4 this August.
This particular release was first made available in Japan in 2021 and is a lot more fleshed out than that endless runner one from a few years ago. It's a game where you explore a town as the series' five-year-old protagonist - taking pictures, fishing, catching bugs, exercising, spotting dinosaurs and more. It's a bit similar to series like Animal Crossing and Story of Seasons.
It's published by Neos Corporation and developed by Millennium Kitchen - the team known for the 'My Summer Vacation' games, and Attack of the Friday Monsters on the 3DS.
Below is some back story. It's also been confirmed the game will support English, Japanese, German, Spanish, and Portuguese subtitles (thanks, Gematsu).
Hiroshi has to go on a business trip to Kyushu, so now the entire Nohara family has decided to stay with an childhood friend of Misae’s in Assou, Kumamoto.
But when they arrive at Kumamoto Station on their way to Assou, they meet a strange man who offers them an even stranger camera on the condition that they’ll act as his witnesses…
With his new camera in hand, Shinnosuke can enjoy his summer vacation in the beautiful Assou fields and mountains to the fullest. The scenery is even crawling with creatures that he would never find in Kasukabe. And there are townspeople to help and new friends to make.
That said… don’t these kids look an awful lot like the ones he knows from home?
One cool summer night, Shinnosuke witnesses a giant creature outlined against the light of a full moon. Next to the creature is a strange man with a wide smile.
It’s the same weird man who gave him the camera at the station…
And he calls himself the Evil Professor. Following this encounter more and more strange things start to happen around Assou…

Shin Chan game get localized?! 😯😯😯
Great news ! Any chance for a physical copy (apart from LRG or others ) ?
@Senjutsu77 No, there's no word on a physical Switch release for the west just yet.
Here's the Japan one:
I hope Zion is happy.
Not sure about Zion's hairstyle in that video but it's good news about Shin-Chan coming west
@Senjutsu77 : This isn’t the sort of release that LRG would publish. It’s best to keep an eye out for a Japanese/Asian release. Asian releases typically have English-language packaging as well (in cases where the game supports English).
The art style on this is phenomenal
I like how some games are getting announced for release outside Japan even before the Direct Mini.
I will happily play this.
... That bridge scene looks like it was IN Friday Monsters o.o
Yatta ! Yatta n
Wait seriously?!
I wonder if they're going to change the English names to match the anime's dub. Website seems like they're not...TwT
Not a huge deal, I'm just used to Mitzy...and Whitey. xD
I loved Attack of the Friday Monsters and was hoping this would see a Western release.
I loved this show as a kid! If it's any good I'll definitely pick it up. It does look nice.
Friday Monsters were amazing, looking forward to this one!
watched the video and game does remind me of Attack of the Friday Monsters. i see it was developed by the same people too. hope it's good
Looks stunning apart from the characters who look awful? I'm not familiar with the source material but I assume that's in keeping with it?!
Shin Chan! Oldschool
I don't know anything about Shin Chan but since I saw this game the first time I was in love with it. It just looks soooo good visually. Awesome news
TAHK0 will be pleased that's for sure.
It has already been released in Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
There were many opinions that it was short because it was 10 to 12 hours long.
I loved Attack of the Friday Monsters and must have completed it a dozen times, so this is a day one purchase for me!
Shin Chan afaik is a boy who flashes his elephant around xD… but the real meat of the game is about the country life so I will take it and maybe get to know SC better. Summer vacation game on ps1 and 2 were my childhood dream. I am excited to finally be able to play and understand it! What is going on this year? It was CC and now this! Is is 90s and 2000s again?
@Joeynator3000
Shin Chan will be renamed Crayon. 😆
@Silly_G Yep thanks. Already looking on the Asia version of River City Three Kingdoms, but I'll take a physical copy of this one anytime. Fingers crossed !
I have a friend who loves this series. This will make his day!
@sdfkj213
More than enough for me as a casual player. Lovely news.
❓️This series has been going for YEARS so HOW can he STILL be FIVE years old?
@BlueGBAMicro ❗ in MEDIA there's a CONCEPT called willing SUSPENSION of DISBELIEF which allows a PERSON experiencing FICTION to not apply REALISTIC expectations to MEDIA.
@Skunkfish Yup, that's just how the source material looks. It's based on a kids' manga, so the designs are comic book-y. I like it, personally.
This looks great! Reminds me a lot of (don’t kill me) the slice of life parts of Persona 5 where you can just roam Japan and chill with the locals.
I really haven't followed this game, but I heard something about this game not being your typical Shin-Chan game and that it was kind of a big deal when it launched in Japan.
@Joeynator3000 It seems the English names are being phased out from newer localized versions of the franchise. The English version of the "Shin-chan Spin-off" series on Amazon Prime Video retains the original Japanese names, along with this game.
I love when longshot, quirky, sometimes odd, unabashedly Japanese games finally get a shot and localized out west!
I have no connection to this series other than seeing the anime briefly in passing in the past when visiting family in the States, but I am highly intrigued by the art style and vibe!
Hopefully this inspires more fun localizations to come.
... Wun can only hope.
Bought this as soon as I learned the Chinese version of the game was released on the Hong Kong Nintendo e-shop just a couple of months ago. It wasn't bad per se. But those 7 days actually go on a loop. Best to play if you just wanna chill after frustrating yourself from another game, it feels like a vacation. I'm also a huge fan of the Crayon Shinchan franchise and have quite of the original manga translated in Chinese.
@Bret ❗️Well, I can't take this Game seriously if the characters don't age.
Was thinking of ordering this from Play-Asia. Glad I waited. I’m not buying digital, but maybe they’ll patch English in to the Japanese release, or better yet do an Asia English version.
@BlueGBAMicro Well that extremely weird take is on you.
@wuntyme8 Yeah, it's really nice being able to experience playing a localized version of quirky Japanese games. I was super excited when Puyo Puyo Tetris came out here in the US.
@BlueGBAMicro The characters don't age in the source material either, so the developers of this game very likely weren't given the freedom to allow for them to age. Despite this, there's a tad bit of plot progression in the source material, such as the Noharas having a baby girl, which they name Himawari.
Oh hell yes. Shin Chan is my childhood so being able to see Action ***** and Bare Ass Godzilla in localized form is nothing short of a miracle.
I'm surprised to see this finally happen, it looks like a really fun game from the footage and videos I've seen of it.
