Back in October last year, we found out the New York Videogame Critics Circle would honour Nintendo of America's former president Reggie Fils-Aimé at the 9th annual New York Game Awards Ceremony. He'll be receiving the Andrew Yoon Legend Award, confirming his 'legend' status.
Now, the games up for nomination have been revealed. The ceremony itself takes place at the SVA Theatre in New York City on 21st January. The Nintendo highlight is Luigi's Mansion 3 being nominated for best game of the year. It's up against titles such as The Outer Worlds, The Game Awards 2019 winner Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding and the indie hit, Disco Elysium.
There are a total of four Nintendo titles up for nomination in the kids category. These games include Tetris 99, Super Mario Maker 2, Pokémon Sword and Shield and Luigi's Mansion 3. In the best-augmented reality and virtual reality category, the Labo VR kit is representing the Switch. On the indie front, Untitled Goose Game is in with a chance to win the best indie game award and Pokémon Sword and Shield has also received a nomination for best music.
One of the more interesting categories is the best remake award, filled with games like The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Katamari Damacy Reroll, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey and Resident Evil 2. View all of the nominees below:

„4,5,6-Train Award for Best Mobile Gaming Experience While Standing“ is missing.
Strange decision for Sword & Shield to be nominated Best Music. Half the soundtrack is a hot mess. It was a major stepdown from Sun & Moon's amazing soundtrack.
I would say Resident Evil 2 Remake is more GOTY worthy than Luigi's Mansion 3
@Creature I agree. It’s a good solid game. But the controls aren’t great and it doesn’t take the series to the next level.
Really fun game...agreed that I'm not sure it rises to GOTY level. Then again, off the top of my head I'm not sure what would surpass it.
Glad, I‘m not the only one not liking the controls. They just felt a lot more tight in the first entry.
Besides, I really missed using fire, water and ice for some puzzles and ghosts.
I really loved the presentation of the game, but for a new entry they should look at what made the first one so good.
Luigi's Mansion 3 is one of the best games I played all year.
It finally is a full 30 hour adventure, and not a supershort and easy 5 hour beat-on-first-day game like LM1 or a linear one like LM2.
With Luigi's Mansion 3, the ghostbusting series is on a new level of quality and content. It's finally coming close to other huge Nintendo characters series, and we'll see that reflected in its sales and the praise it will get by the fans now and in the coming years.
And most of us haven't even checked out the multiplayer because we're still strying to 100% complete the main story, and now it's getting a multiplayer DLC pack on top of it.
@Creature The sewer level was one of the best designed levels. I’d say some of the earlier levels had more design problems.
It may not be the best Switch title last year, but It’s still better than a majority of the titles nominated like the very overrated RE2 remake or Death Stranding.
Luigi's Mansion 3 was pretty good, but, Super Mario Maker 2 is the best game of all time.
Personally, I couldn't be happier with Luigi's Mansion 3 so far. I have yet to beat it, but I've found it to be the most enjoyable original Switch game since Breath of the Wild. I can understand why it wouldn't be to everyone's tastes, but for me, it's just about perfect.
Despite its 30fps limitation
So a city has it's own game of the year now?
Resident Evil 2 is my game of the year.
@MrDisappointed To be honest, Breath of the Wild isn't an original Switch game because Nintendo admitted that they delayed the original version (Wii U) one year so it launched along the Switch (port) version.
I liked the original Luigi's Mansion and the sequel. The sequel has more content but the first one is more immersive and tight, shorter but better. I haven't played 3 yet because I'm waiting for a sale, I think that I'll like it but reading you guys I would have preferred if Next Level Games had used the original concept expanded.
Imagine if every state held these awards.
Love LM3, but Sekiro and Disco Elysium (100% best Indie) are on another level.
Sekiro also being nominated for best world says it all.
@Creature Agree with the level design, but other than that I had a blast with it. I definitely think it deserves the award if Sekiro doesn’t win.
@BlueOcean 3 is vastly superior to Dark Moon. I’d say save up and see what you think.
@tobsesta99 I'll definitely get it but when it's 30% off or something because of my backlog and Game Pass.
@BlueOcean If you got Game Pass I would definitely recommend checking out The Outer Worlds, that is my game of the year.
@JayJ Yep I downloaded it and will play it too!
@BlueOcean I see. Game Pass is awesome.
@tobsesta99 Yes it is!
I mean it's great that it was nominated, but without the invert Y axis option (you know, the correct way to play), it's simply broken. $60 purchase my family hasn't been able to play because it's physically unplayable.
GO LUIGI YEEET sorry hes just cute and funny
