Re: Movie Review: Pixels Proves Once Again That Video Games And Film Do Not Make Good Bedfellows

VinnieMii

Watched it, didn't hate it...
Maybe it's because I grew up playing video games in the 80's. Like most of Adam Sandler's movies, it's a nostalgic homage to the 80's. There are TV and musical personalities from the 80's that were involved in the film as well.

Personally, I think if you are not old enough, you won't get most of the 80's references. How many people actually remember the 'Where's the Beef Lady'?

There's a target audience for the movie 'Pixels', but it's not for today's strapping young video gamers, they just won't 'get it'.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Pitched NX To Third Parties During E3 2015

VinnieMii

3-D technology...Touchscreens...Dual Screens...Motion Controllers...Cameras and Microphones....Steering Wheels...Pads and Boards for your feet...Zappers and Robots with Gyroscopes... ...it's all been done in the name of 'innovation'.

There isn't been much being told about the 'Quality of Life' initiative, lately. Do you think the NX console is going to be a branch of this obscure 'thing' they were talking about last year?

Nintendo...what are you up to?

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

VinnieMii

Not dissapointed. There's a new Starfox, a new Paper/Mario & Luigi, a cool new Zelda multiplayer (Four Swords was awesome, are you kidding? I can't wait to play this with a friend), and we finally have solid evidence of the elusive ShinMegami/Emblem game being in the works. All great stuff.

And no need to worry, Zelda(WiiU) is still coming, they don't have to keep repeating themselves.

But....Metroid....hmph....it seems that Nintendo likes to innovate, and I get that (that's even going back to NES and R.O.B. days). So...the Other:M was a stinker...and they've been shying away from making another Metroid game ever since. Maybe innovation isn't the answer. Maybe they should stick with the 'Tried and True' formulas with this one. Same thing goes for F-Zero. C'mon, Nintendo, don't be shy! You know those games were awesome back in the day, you can do it!...again.

Re: Humble Nindie Bundle Sells Over 37,000 Units in Just 24 Hours

VinnieMii

I am amazed at how many games I have purchased through humblebundle in the past year. I currently have over 175 games on Steam. Having an eshop humblebundle is a bit of a surprise. I have most of the games on this list. Guacamelee is my favorite, and you only have to spend one measly dollar to get it (and 2 other games). I highly recommend spending 10 to get SteamWorld Dig and all the other games. I might do that and give away the ones I already have.

Re: Nintendo Submits Trademark for NES Controller

VinnieMii

Actually, there are some aftermarket replicas of the old NES controller in the market. I have one, and the only thing different about it is that it doesn't say 'Nintendo' in it. They also make them for USB so that you can play them with emulators gasp.

Re: Soapbox: Portable Gaming Forges a Special Relationship With the Player, and Nintendo is the Master in the Field

VinnieMii

My earliest experiences in handheld gaming goes back to the old LED/LCD games (i.e. Game & Watch and Mattel/Coleco LED games) before there were Game Boys. But I didn't go back to handhelds until the DS Lite came out. I certainly fell in love with the DS, because it brought back old-school gaming that I missed out on when there was a sea of FPS and racing games in my then-current library. It made me fall in love with Nintendo again. When the 3DS came out with its Virtual Console Game Boy titles, I realized what I had missed out on. So, for the last 4 years, my favorite thing to do on the weekends is to go to retrogaming stores and flea markets and buy these 20+ year old little cartridges for cheap. My current GB/GBC/GBA collection reached 400 last weekend. Handhelds rule!

Re: Review: Pac-Land (Wii U eShop / NES)

VinnieMii

I agree with most of the review, and a fair score. But, I didn't think that the music was forgettable. Being pretty old myself, I remember perfectly well that it was the same music that they used for Pac-man's Saturday morning cartoon theme song. I believe the game is entirely based on that cartoon.

Re: Possibility of SNES Remix and Other Remix Titles Depends on Fan Support

VinnieMii

NES Remix was a lot of fun, but seeing what they have on 1 and 2 so far, I don't see much going on for a 3. UNLESS they start using 3rd-party titles (I highly doubt that would ever happen, but, oh, that would be so much fun). Sure I would like a SNES or GB Remix.

Anyways, Have any of you seen Abobo's Big Adventure? That is truly the best NES 'Remix' that I've ever played. Look it up...if not, you're missing out.

Re: Review: Advance Wars (Wii U eShop)

VinnieMii

I do like Advance Wars and own it for GBA. My first impression was that it is a lot like Fire Emblem, except with guns, tanks, air units and medical devices, instead of swords, cavalry, pegasi, and healers. It's a different experience. But the turn based strategy and map mechanics work very much the same way. If you do like Fire Emblem, I don't see how you wouldn't like Advance Wars.

Re: Senran Kagura 2's Japanese Website Bounces Into Action

VinnieMii

Oh, England seems to be bringing more attention to Senran Kagura Burst than here in USA. If I hadn't been to this website a few days ago and seen the article with the hilarious Senran Kagura Burst commercial, I would never have known about it. I did download the game right after finding out that it was already released here in November. You guys got the hard copy, nice!

I would love for all the sequels to make it here. Hopefully the Vita games will get English translations as well. That would finally give me a reason to buy a Vita. Otherwise, I may have a reason to learn Japanese.

Re: Capcom Is Aware That We All Want A New Mega Man Collection, Thanks Very Much

VinnieMii

The A & B button swap on Mega Man Anniversary for GameCube rendered the game useless. A new collection including all 10 'Mega Man' games without the button swap would be ideal. They should include the Super Famicom version (not the GBA port) of Mega Man & Bass along with that as it is legitimately part of that series.

The Mega Man X collection on my GameCube is just fine, thus making it one of the gems in my GameCube collection. Nothing wrong with it. The only thing that could make it slightly better would be to add X7, X8, and X Command, but I find those games to be a bit undesireable.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition Available For Free Right Now in North America

VinnieMii

Didn't think this was going to be available again. Very nice! Got it the first time around, but I've been wanting to play this game with my nephew who also owns a 3DSXL.

I recently purchased two LOTP/Four Swords carts and a link cable for my 2 GBA SP's, because I thought that was the going to be the only way we were going to play it together. The carts were easy to find, but that link cable wasn't (got an official Nintendo cable, too).

Had this DSiWare game been available to download, I would have never gone through the trouble of finding and purchasing those 11+ year old items.

Loved the GameCube's Four Swords Adventures, btw. A remake of that one doesn't sound like a bad idea to me...hopefully someone will think of it...I'll be like, "Yeah, Good Idea! Glad you thought of it"... O_o

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th January (North America)

VinnieMii

@SetupDisk

I know, right? I don't remember Castlevania 2 being a bad game at all. And I didn't know anyone 'hated' it. Then AVGN came around, and almost everyone agreed with him whether they played it or not. He was really only trying to get people to laugh, and has admitted that he doesn't really hate the game.

Re: Review: Castlevania (Wii U eShop / NES)

VinnieMii

Ok, this game is hard. It took me two months to beat it when I was a kid. But after so many times, I have it nailed and I can beat it in 15-20 minutes. It is my favorite 'classic' Castlevania. Symphony of the Night is a completely different animal, but I love it just the same.

Re: 3D After Burner II Is Jetting Towards The Japanese 3DS eShop

VinnieMii

Great news! Spent many quarters on that game back in the day. Nintendo needs more 3D classics, now. Only 6 nes games so far. By the end of this month Sega will have 8 (and they are 16 bit or better). I'm not sure why we haven't seen any mention of SNES VC for 3DS. But seeing that Sega put out some 16bit classics in 3D, I can't see why they can't put some SNES games on there (even in 2D).

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th November (North America)

VinnieMii

I've been playing Super Hang-On on and off today. I am impressed with how well it was done. It's not a Genesis/Megadrive version in 3D, it's the arcade version in 3D. In other words; the best version yet. Big fan of the Space Harrier game, too.

I would love to see Out-Run or Afterburner done this way, or maybe the lesser known "Thunder Blade" (the Genesis version was no match for the arcade version).
