Last April, Square Enix released a remake of Trials of Mana on the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms.
Since then, it has enjoyed ongoing success - with Square Enix today announcing it's now sold more than one million units worldwide. This includes the combined digital and physical amount across Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC. This milestone was achieved close to 10 months after the original release.
To celebrate, the official Trials of Mana account shared the following tweet featuring special artwork and thanking fans for their support:
If you've not played this new but old JRPG yet, what are you waiting for? We highly recommended it, having awarded it eight out of ten stars. There's also a demo available on the Switch eShop you can try out.
Did you contribute to Trials of Mana's global sales total? What other older games would you like to see Square Enix remake? Leave a comment down below.

Good news. I hope this means they'll finally release a new game in the series that rekindles what they started with Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana on the SNES... They've got of dormant franchises from the SNES/PS1 era that would be good to remake
I’m so glad this series saw a resurgence. I haven’t played the original since the snes rom translation in the early 2000’s but on top of that I was able to play a remake as well. Even got an art book and other merch. I would love to see a remaster of legend of mana, the last good mana IMO
@roboshort Actually the series started with Final Fantasy Adventure on the Gameboy.
I hope this helps Square realize that their IPs that aren't Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts do actually sell well. Really excited to play NEO: TWEWY when it comes out.
And hopefully they consider remaking Xenogears.
Now please we want a Chrono Trigger HD a la Street's of Rage 4, Bahamut Lagoon and Final Fantasy Tactics HD Collection.
Had there been co-op I would have gotten it, I will stick to the SNES version.
Absolutely loved this!!! Brilliant game
I played the demo and really liked the game, I think I will pick it up if it ever is on sale. Especially with 3D world being out now I have other priorities
Ah! If only I could find time to actually play it! I want to play the original (from the collection) then play the remake with different characters.
NEED MORE TIME!
Did someone say, Secret of Evermore?
@Renart There was a Bamhamut Lagoon rerelease and an FF Tactics collection? I haven't heard of either of these before, and I want them. Were they just some PSP/Vita games that I never heard about, or were they something bigger?
@alexybubble there wasn't... We need them. And Earthbound too from Nintendo. I mean seriously a bundle with FFT + the GBA episodes... Yummy... Bahamut Lagoon deserves more love too. And Chrono Trigger can't stay only on Ds...
This game was a day one purchase for me. What a brilliant game.
More please!
@Renart Ok, you had me confused there for a second, since SOR4 did eventually happen.
@alexybubble I want a Chrono Trigger with those graphics... It would be crazy ..
Great job. Now if we can get Chrono trigger I'll be a very happy gamer
I love when Square Enix shares lovely artwork once they celebrate a sales milestone.
Still waiting for the first 2 remakes on the Switch before I buy the third entry.
The Combat seems só dumb, almost no active skills ONLY passíves ones and the special... Am I missing anything?
I still haven't played this yet. Secret of Mana is one of my all time favourite games due to playing it on the SNES when I was little. Now being a huge soulsborne fan I see many influences from SOM in Hidetaka Miyazaki's games, in particular with the multiplayer and weapon choice aspects.
If Square Enix were to make a new Mana game I would love to see them take back some influence from Dark Souls in particular. Maybe not in the look, but in the game design at least.
Have the game, just don’t know whether I should play the original version on the collection or the remake.
@Renart I couldn't agree more mate. While they're at it, how about a Vagrant Story remaster too?
@LocalPenguin Need.
@FX102A you should play both. They are both different and special in their own way.
@Skrijver I keep seeing it at my Walmart's $20 bargain bin! Could always check there if it's an option for you
Secret of Mana has not aged well in terms of story presentation. I will eventually give Trials a go hoping that the story will be more engaging. In the meanwhile, Cross Code has both brilliant gameplay and an engaging storyline if you're looking to scratch that SNES era ARPG itch.
I'm glad it's selling well, it's a great game!
I tried to get into the demo twice. But just couldn't.
I like that the story (somewhat) changes depending on who you put in your party. Great concept. Also, 10 bucks says that at least 60% of those sales were on Switch
I picked this one up in the fall when it dropped to $20US. Haven't gotten around to playing it yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. I wouldn't mind seeing a 3D remake of Final Fantasy Legend. I know it's not the best RPG, but it was a fun part of my childhood.
Also, a full remake of Chrono Trigger could be incredible.
I really like this series. The SNES original was a masterpiece and that was a very good remake. Personally, I liked the english dub of the main cast. They sound just like what I had imagined
Played the demo, enjoyed it, forgot about it so much that I recently played it again for about 20 minutes before remembering I already played it, still enjoyed it, thought about buying it, then thought I'd rather get Bravely Default 2, then decided I could get this now for $30 then wait on Bravely Default 2 until that is $30. Currently playing Link's Awakening I borrowed from the library. Tomb Raider 3 is next. When you only game 2-3 hours a day these things take awhile.
What about now remakes of Terranigma, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, FFVI, Legend of Mana and Xenogears??
Hopefully it gets higher, great game
I enjoyed it a lot. It was cheesy in some ways, and hardly groundbreaking, but a good relaxing, arcadey fantasy romp.
Thank goodness. Make more mana games in the style of this remake, please.
Good time to port (and fix all of its problems) Dawn of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 4).
I still need to grab the remake, though I do intend to play through the original via Collection of Mana first. Good news is it's a replayable game!
@eltomo I wish that they would at least put Secret of Evermore on the SNES online. I doubt Square has any plans to do anything else with a game like that but I would love to play through it again. Same with Illusions of Gaia, and the other two in that series I never got to play.
Haven't it tried it yet on the collection. Heard it's fantastic.
Square Enix, I believe, has rights to these games:
7th Saga
Soul Blazer
Illusion of Gaia
Terranigma
Act Raiser
Secret of Evermore
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
I'd love to see these games on the Switch!
It's a really great game. I would have loved it if they'd pulled the camera out a bit and allowed local multiplayer like the original, but aside from that, the game was a blast. It did a great job of keeping the charm of the original while enhancing the gameplay just enough to make it enjoyable by today's standards. Well done.
I played it on PS4 & it was a great comfort food JRPG. It was nice going back to something a bit more simple in scope compared to all the Xenoblades & Final Fantasies of the world, and I liked the general gameplay/combat loop moreso than the recent Tales games I've played.
I'm glad, this game is amazing
@Jokerwolf
I feel exactly the same. I thought I was the only one bummed about this remake being 1 player only
@Skrijver I picked this up at Best Buy last holiday for $20. I figured it was never going to be cheaper and I couldn’t pass it up. Also picked up the Mana Collection at Best Buy for $15. If you time it right you’ll find them on sale again.
Love that game, I still prefer the Super Famicom original but the remake was great fun too. I hope this mean they also considered remaking Sword of Mana and Legend of Mana as well and don't remake them the same as the mobile games like Secret of Mana and Adventures of Mana but more like this game.
@LocalPenguin And Brave Fencer Musashi
@Ks123 Wow that’s a nice haul for $35
@Sirloto Yeah, especially Soul Blazer
Good, many years too late, but I'm glad they finally got around to it. Now it would be nice if they could get around to Terranigma.
@eltomo if only we could get Secret of Evermore. The world needs to experience this game once more. Or for the first time if it wasn't played previously.
@Avol
As you (and many others...specifically @Ks123) have said, easiest $20 purchase I ever made-thanks, BestBuoy! And while I'm @ing you, gotta say: KILLER avatar...Majin Boo?!!! So GOOD; one of the best I've seen on here, and that's honestly no small feat!
