Re: Factorio - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced, Free Upgrade For Existing Owners

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Suketoudara

"The Switch version does support USB mouse. And USB keyboard!"

thanks! i had a feeling.

i find all this "mouse mode" stuff odd when you could always use a mouse with switch, and many people probably already had the hardware laying around (or could acquire it for 20 bucks) and never bothered.

not to mention, their competitor Steam has obv always had mouse compatibility. I tried "couch mouse" mode with a tower PC hooked up to my TV probably 15 years ago, almost immediately said "nope!" and never looked back 😂

Re: Factorio - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced, Free Upgrade For Existing Owners

The_Nintendo_Expat

im always curious if games that get "mouse mode support" already supported a USB mouse on switch, and if not, why not?

(also curious if "mouse mode support" necessarily means USB mouse support, or if these games might only be playable with one side talkin joycon. 🤔)

(further curious if some people who are interested in "mouse mode" on switch 2 ever bothered to try a mouse with switch 1)

@Damo

You are right, "everyday someone is born who hasn't seen the Flintstones," as they say. ✌️

OTOH, I'm grumpy about it. 😮‍💨

(if I reviewed games which i dont and probably wont, i might implement something like "MSRP: $X, game length: ~X hrs, replayability X/10 pts" as a side bar.)

anyway! thanks for the review, i was/am pleased to see your name attached 😊✌️

PS - now that im a steam deck owner (😌) i'm extremely interested to see reviews for steam games from that perspective. this seems like a good one for example to review this way on Time Extension. its a thought, idk. 😊

Re: Review: Night Striker Gear (Switch) - The Shining Apex Of The 'Super Scaler' Concept

The_Nintendo_Expat

why are NintendoLife reviews so often written as though the author assumes the audience is skeptical (or completely ignorant) of the given genre?

this review comes off oddly apologetic about the nature of arcade games. specifically, that they are relatively short, and they end.

"The challenge won't last forever"

"Might be too shallow for some"

both of these cons could be applied to every game ever in existence, no matter how deep (or... 'infinite?' )

Re: Anniversary: SNES Action RPG 'Terranigma' Is 30 Years Old Today, And It's Still A 10/10 In Our Book

The_Nintendo_Expat

"...loads have never played it. Even folks who've been around since back in the day. It's just one of those games that ended up being unavailable a lot of players whom we reckon [...] might just earn themselves a brand new SNES favourite."

I completely resemble this remark! Gaia was one of the first "long" games I ever beat as a kid, and remains one of my favorite games ever. the sequels of course never came out in the US, so they've been on sort of semi permanent backlog status for at least 30 years (💀)

...yet where am I in the poll answers? 😮‍💨

(I didn't/couldn't vote.)

Re: Mailbox: Metroid Excitement Levels, Game Clubs, "The Galaxy Strategy" - Nintendo Life Letters

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Anti-Matter

we are on the same page, to a certain degree. ive always preferred my violence cartoony and my sexual themes implicit, as opposed to explicit.

i also find the gameplay to be a little better in games that arent leaning on good ol "sex and violence" to appeal to their audience. Street Fighter has always clearly been better than Mortal Kombat, as an easy example. ✌️

my very favorite games are ones that look like cartoons but have a deeper emotional impact (like earthbound) or are genuinely challenging (like megaman.)

anyway, cool to see your letter published on here! take care my friend.

@Anti-Matter

Anti, if it weren't for your posting on this site, I wouldn't even be aware that there were adult fans of these games out there at all. So, I'm glad you are here 😊✌️ im open to (very nearly) ALL kinds of games, so I dont write off kids' games just because I'm not a kid. 👍

are you a fan of any other kinds of games? in part, im just curious if there is any overlap of our tastes. I like what some of my friends call "baby games" (in a "good natured ribbing" kind of way) but from their perspective that's Tomba, Pikmin, Earthbound, et al.

Re: Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance Reveals Final SEGA Villain For Upcoming DLC

The_Nintendo_Expat

@LikelySatan

ouch! i did plenty of damage to myself, selling games long ago that i really shouldve held onto.

i do have a tidy personal collection of faves from the goodle days, and a fair amount of physical switch carts, but given that ive gone with steamdeck this time obviously ive moved on from physical for now, as far as new and upcoming games are concerned, for the time being.

PS - i got my NES when i was four as well 😊👍 so we have that in common. what a ride its been, eh?

Re: Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance Reveals Final SEGA Villain For Upcoming DLC

The_Nintendo_Expat

@CANOEberry

i dont see anywhere that we disagree. 👍 its no different really than my old pattern of, "buy the games at full retail that REALLY excite me, pick them up later on discount or used otherwise."

in an era where Nintendo virtually never discounts their games, and physical games are somewhat scarce and i dont just come across interesting titles in the "bargain bin" anymore, ive become that much more choosey about what i throw money at and when.

put another way, I only pay for games once, so bring full value up front or wait for less money later. im a simple man.

Re: Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance Reveals Final SEGA Villain For Upcoming DLC

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Polvasti

i agree with your point to some extent, but announcing DLC when the game's barely out (or in certain cases not even out 😬) is still an indicator for me that i should wait for the inevitable game + dlc bundle that goes on sale right about as ive forgotten the game exists.

in fact, i already had forgotten this game exists before i read your reply, so the strategy is working 😂

Basically you're either the kind of company that sells me a complete, finite game for a fair price and i buy it, or you are the "but wait, theres more!" kind and I wait... for the bundle sale. 😂✌️ I have plenty of games to play until then, including ninja side scrollers that i havent even touched yet.

i dont expect anyone else to follow my lead, or care if they do. 👍

@AmplifyMJ

"Happy Belated birthday,"

thanks very much! it was a great one 😄

"I forgot you were getting a Steam Deck! [...] how are you enjoying it?"

OH MAN. its the console AND pc of my dreams, no exaggeration. I plan to make a forum post about it and ill be sure to @ you when I do ✌️

but the TLDR is, i feel confident i can play almost anything i want to on it, and the only drawback (for me personally) vs the Switch is lack of first party Nintendo games.

the controls are particularly innovative and competent but that goes for just about everything, top to bottom. completely worth the hype, I shouldn't have slept on Steam Deck!

thanks for asking! 😄👍✌️

Re: Review: 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller - Ultimate? No, But 'Decent' Doesn't Have The Same Ring

The_Nintendo_Expat

FWIW, just taking this controller off the dock wakes my Steamdeck instantly 😂😂😂

(but so does my Logitech bluetooth keyboard, so. 😌)

there's something about using a controller for the purpose for which it was designed. who knew? 👍

BTW Steam OS recognizes this controller specifically, shows the 8bd "heart" glyph on screen for "home" commands, represents the controller graphically in Steam Input, and allows mapping of specific functions to the "extra" buttons, not just clones of face buttons.

TLDR: this controller is an EASY 10/10 on steam. 👍👍 no complaints and I love to find and single out problems, y'all.

@Scollurio

i cant speak to any other "handheld pc" directly, but i avoid Windows as much as any other Microsoft product, personally. Windows on a handheld sounds like battery-powered Hell to me lol.

I get that it can run steam, but even as a Nintendo ex-pat, im still inclined to go with the "first party option," hence the Deck. Old habits die hard! 😂✌️

Re: Switch 2 Named One Of The Best 'Entertainment & Gaming' Inventions Of 2025

The_Nintendo_Expat

@charliecarrot

I respect your opinion but i still think they are lowering the bar almost to the ground. At the very least, they are being pretentious by not simply calling this a list of "best products."

saying Nintendo "invented it" simply because it didnt exist before also doesnt really hold, for me. for example, nintendo arguably invented the analog stick (please dont @ me, ppl) for the n64, but to call the Gamecube stick also an "invention" simply because "it didn't exist before" is obviously disingenuous, imo.

for example im sure someone made a better cotton gin shortly after Eli Whitney (including, probably, Eli himself) but the invention was "the cotton gin" and Eli Whitney invented it, the first time.

PS - "Probably every piece of technology is some sort of iteration of something that came before."

Not really... that is what the word "invention" is usually reserved for: when you make something that is not simply iterative of what came before.

Like, the light bulb was not an iteration of a kerosene lamp, or the automobile was not an iteration of a horse lol. ✌️
