Re: Nintendo States Its Intention To Acquire More Development Teams

The_Nintendo_Expat

"It outright states that its plan includes "initiatives such as acquiring development companies to make them subsidiaries and augmenting our development facilities,"

"This might, on the surface at least, go against Nintendo's statement last year in which it said it would rather "organically expand the organisation" over the acquisition of developers."

i dont see the conflict, both say they plan to acquire developers.

unless we are hung up on the word "organically," which is actually meaningless corpo fluff language imo. ๐Ÿ‘

[EDIT - I think I was reading it wrong. I took the word "over" to mean "by way of," as opposed to "in lieu of." โœŒ๏ธ still, there's nothing "organic" about anything Nintendo does, regardless of how they hire talent or whatever it is, and I'll continue taking anything they "say" with a grain of salt.]

@metaphysician

i agree with everything you said, because true. โœŒ๏ธ

abstractly, however i do indeed "truly want Nintendo (and everyone else) to (eventually) lose their copyrights," and yes there would be some doozies falling off the back end in a theoretical disney-less alternate timeline. ๐Ÿ‘

PS - ive never downloaded a rom from a game made in this millennium... but OTOH ive never felt inspired to breathlessly "justify" my piracy either, much to your point ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ‘

@LinktotheFuture

"Ultimate" means "final" and "best imaginable."

my point is, if it has glaring omissions (4/gold,) it's not either of those things because eventually another Kollection might come out that actually has all the games and that will be the "ultimate" by definition.

this is certainly a celebration and a Kollection but it's not the "ultimate" one. ๐Ÿ‘โœŒ๏ธ

"Itโ€™s difficult to lament missing releases here when the existing lineup is so darn impressive."

hold my kontroller:

Mortal Kombat 4/Gold is the only remaining MK game that interests me in the slightest, unfortunately.

and, this cant possibly be the "ultimate" Kompilation without it, by definition. really odd they didnt include it, or couldnt for some reason. ๐Ÿค”

Re: Retro Nintendo Games Are Returning To Animal Crossing (Sort Of)

The_Nintendo_Expat

@HammerGalladeBro

happy to clear that up ๐Ÿ‘ i had to read through twice, myself, to get what was being said.

"how many people play Animal Crossing without NSO other than kids?"

i can see the logic of the question, but the idea of authorizing the use each time before playing effectively a throw away bonus mini game within the game (and that part of the game being "broken" without the service) is just beyond the pale for me.

(not to mention, for the people that already have NSO, its kind of a lame bonus anyway.)

i mean how greedy can you get? it's like they are afraid of good will from their own fans.

@BrewsterTea

good to know there are others! i didn't mention, I also feel as though i focus and play better with the music off, much of the time. I first noticed this while playing Wipeout on PSX c.1995, on the harder tracks. (even though I adored that OST and it was half the reason i wanted that game ๐Ÿ˜)

Nintendo is the all time champion of "play it 'our way,' or dont play it at all."

i hung with them a v long time when the games were so damn good (c.1989-2016,) but these days I really appreciate when i can set the sound and control mappings to my liking for most games. (yada yada Steam Deck.)

@N00BiSH

sound is half the reason i play videogames, depending on the game of course. ๐Ÿ‘

also i turn the music off often, if its not particularly great. i really appreciate games that still sound "right" with just ambience/fx. and, in those cases i often find the game to be more immersive than with the tunes.

(huntdown is a good example of ambience done well. without the music, you can clearly hear the NPCs/enemies chatting or doing whatever they are doing before you are noticed, and the "air is filled" with sounds of the city, etc. its cool.)

@TheBoilerman

i have a wonderful mother 2 OST on vinyl that was a gift from a dear friend returning from japan โค๏ธ

...but i never listen to it, because the vinyl "hiss" sounds oddly "detached" from the signal, and its distracting. and, the music sounds plenty "warm" as designed. โœŒ๏ธ not to mention, i have ZXTUNE on my phone and it works fantastically.

The_Nintendo_Expat

@MeloMan

im being a little cute, because ive been on this train... forever ๐Ÿ˜† i was working on my ZSNES backlog in the PSX days, and ive always been more into 100%ing my games while i wait to find a used copy of whatever's new, later.

(always with exceptions, like a new zelda or mario game, but now i wait on those, too, after the last few have been kinda... meh.)

but yeah the update, DLC, eventual bundle sale cycle has just reinforced this behavior ๐Ÿ˜ŠโœŒ๏ธ

I f*cking love lonely mountain! (thats what i call it ๐Ÿ˜†)

have you tried Decenders? i went into it expecting not much, and ended up sinking some time into it. satisfying game to play, and similar in the sense that its you vs the mountain/trail. i recommend turning the music off ๐Ÿ˜ŽโœŒ๏ธ
something about driving a gasoline engine around the wilderness just doesnt hit the same, but if this is fun, ill be down. ๐Ÿ‘

"The literal construction of your sentence as written indicates that anyone who is a passionate gamer is opposed to game key cards. That is how the sentence reads Implementing proper English grammar."

sorry that's wrong. all his words are saying is that the people complaining about game key cards are passionate gaming fans, and youve inserted yourself into it.

"It's been met with considerably negative reception from passionate gaming fans."

if youre gonna pedant, be right. it's like, the only rule ๐Ÿ‘

FWIW i found the source of my misinformation:

"This game offers the first real open-world experience in the Pokรฉmon series. Technically a spin-off from the mainline games, Pokรฉmon Legends: Arceus takes place in a 'Ye Olde' version of the Gen 4 region..."
