@BloodNinja I absolutely love this. It's nice to get a reminder as to why we enjoy video games and how irrelevant the corporate machine is to the art form at its purest point. It's so easy to get jaded these days, especially with the mass adoption of language that should've never left the boardroom.
Had a great time with the first one. Unfortunately, nothing in this trailer convinced me to play this over the original. Looking forward to seeing the critical reception.
I wouldn't be surprised to see FLUDD "playable" again in a new Mario, but never again as a core mechanic, and I certainly don't believe there will be a Sunshine 2 ever. We're more likely to see a Galaxy 3 or Odyssey 2, and that's still a long shot.
@sixrings Is it possible Nintendo is building stock up before release to avoid this nonsense with the PS5/XSX shortages? Maybe they think they can wait it out or at least have enough on hand to overwhelm the scalpers?
It's not really a great time to launch new hardware...
@Ghost_of_Hasashi I'd rather see Silent Hill back in Toyama's hands at Bokeh Game Studio, honestly. He's been absent from the franchise long enough to possibly bring a fresh perspective, while still being firmly planted in what made the series great.
@Bearzilla823 While I'm not a fan of your rhetoric, I agree that people shouldn't be as mad about it as they are. There are far greater injustices in the world and it's not like you can't pick up these titles somewhere else. Sunshine is the only one of these games not re-released before, but even the Switch port is deficient compared to the original.
Yeah, this has been one of the more puzzling remasters. This game wasn't particularly good back in the day. The only reason why it had any modicum of success was it hit right when zombies started coming back into the public consciousness in a big way.
@Jokomo3 To each their own, but Genshin Impact has impressive production value for a standard console game, let alone a mobile F2P title. Its word of mouth has been way stronger than any marketing campaign.
@JR150 And guns, but they seem to be opposed to guns for the most part. I would like to see them get more creative, though.
My outlandish Smash pick would be Alex Roivas from Eternal Darkness. Imagine if the B attacks were runes to assemble your own spells and the ultimate was some insanity related attack like "crashing" your Switch or glitching out the game in some way.
@Snatcher For sure. I was mostly being facetious. Besides, I don't think we're effective enough as a species to do lasting damage to anything but ourselves.
@Snatcher Just like any utility, the infrastructure will improve and everyone will have fast, easy to access internet in time. When that happens, the difference between owning your media and streaming it will be obvious, slanting positively towards streaming.
Hardware will be super expensive and managing media will be as much of a chore as it's always been. We're already seeing the limits of physical media with console scarcity, day one patches, and many games requiring an internet connection anyway. People can't even have the full COD experience on PS4 without it taking up the whole hard drive. Physical will never go away, but it will simply make more sense for most people to stream.
I understand it's a scary thought, but it's going to be one of those things like paper checking, where our generation is going to be super wary of going digital while our kids are not going to care.
Y'know, assuming we can keep from destroying the planet first.
"We'll pay for everything, you don't have to do anything, and you get half the revenue."
I hope this works out for Forever. Hollow is among the worst games I've ever played, but it would be nice to see them grow and get better at making/publishing games. As maligned as the Panzer Dragoon remake was at launch, it was a step in the right direction.
@AgentGuapo It is comically overreaching to expect projects that ambitious out of Forever Entertainment, especially if they are going to be self funded. We are more likely to see something akin to a barebones graphical update to Tobal No. 1 & 2.
@COVIDberry Yeah, with their development/publishing record being spotty at best, Forever Entertainment likely won't be trusted with anything significant. People who are saying Legacy of Kain are on the right track, but I think those games are a little too big to hand the keys over to Forever. Fear Effect remakes have already been announced, right?
@NotoriousWhiz There's never been a better time to jump into Turok 2. The biggest barriers to entry have been removed. You can save anywhere now and the controller doesn't make you want to eat glass, considering you can pick your platform.
@John_Koshiro Eye of the beholder. Hardly touched the multiplayer back in the day because other games were simply better and I did not miss it much from the Switch version. It's one of my favorite single player campaigns from the N64 era, so I feel like I got my money's worth. I'm happy they added this for the people who were missing it, though.
EDIT: I would be incredibly interested in an online multiplayer version of Rage Wars, though. Especially if they fix the bugged out coop mode.
I think this is overall a savvy move. I wouldn't be surprised if Platinum doesn't have the time to work on a sequel fast enough for Nintendo's taste, and Nintendo has a robust enough roster of studios that could handle a sequel. And they could probably borrow a few people from Platinum for consultation, if needed.
@Cwiiis Technically speaking, they're all last-gen games, but XCOM 2 and Starlink are PS4/XB1 games too. Yeah, they can't touch Saber Interactive or Panic Button in terms of "impossible ports", but Saber and Panic Button are exceptional. They shouldn't have even tried with Outer Worlds, but XCOM 2 looks and plays surprisingly well.
@Shambo I'm glad someone else enjoyed it, too. The combo system was rad. That and Timesplitters 2 might be the games I played the most on the Gamecube.
@LatsaSpege I play Doom on Ultraviolence or Nightmare when I want to relax. Playing a difficult game helps me forget about anything but the task at hand.
@mousieone My argument wasn't regarding general antisocial behavior, but was more of a response to graphic violence. Regardless, you are correct. Those situations require more guidance because they require context and judgment in a way similar to sexual situations. Games like GTA and Saints Row aren't exactly exempt from criticism for their violent and sexual content, though, despite their mainstream appeal. Is it also possible that GTA and Saints Row get more of a pass because they're simply better games? There's no ecchi equivalent.
@Rambler I think fantasy roleplay is a healthy exploration of human sexuality, so long as it falls within consent and everyone involved remembers it's fantasy roleplay. Even film can be roleplay. If people didn't identify with videos and do a little roleplay in their head, VR wouldn't be taking off like it is. The line is already blurred.
@Heavyarms55 While I agree with the heart of your argument, it's comparing apples to oranges. The reason why western society has a "violence good, sex bad" mentality is probably because you are almost guaranteed to have a sexual encounter in your life, but a huge chunk of the population will never even fire a gun, much less actually shoot someone. Violence isn't practical to most lives, so it's pretty easy to say "just don't do any of this in real life". It's clearly antisocial behavior. A child can understand this. Sex is much more complicated and the social rules regarding it are essential to master. Combine this with the fact that virtually everyone on the planet will have a sexual encounter and it's easy to see why people have a harder time separating a virtual act from a real one (not necessarily the people who play these games, but definitely the people on the outside looking in).
The real hypocrisy comes from people who look down on these games with imaginary people and scenarios, but will watch free porn and potentially contribute to an industry known for the sexual abuse and exploitation of real people. Not saying someone is a bad person for going to free porn sites, but they do kinda suck if they're crapping on a game and its users when it's clearly the more ethical option.
One of the only times he's cried in his life? That's weird, right? Not that he cried at a video game, but that he's claiming that's one of the only times he's cried in his life?
@Indielink And once again, you are right. Maybe they did seek funding elsewhere and this is their last resort. I respect that; that's the original intent of crowdfunding. However, it has only made me more uncomfortable to support these endeavors as more crowdfunding projects fail due to creatives having more "vision" than business sense, or companies abusing their fanbase by using it as a tactic to build hype, baiting and switching, or using it as a platform to get picked up by a publisher. That being said, I sincerely hope that the guys working on this project get the funding they need and get the game they want out. People have wanted more Suikoden games for a while and Konami is terrible.
@Indielink I suppose you're right. Pre-orders aren't really a good comparison and I might've unintentionally seemed like I support pre-orders (I don't). However, I still feel like crowdfunding kinda sucks. It started as a way for new creatives to help start or finish their projects and is now used by industry vets either to shunt the risk to fans or test "engagement". It's exploitative. A Kickstarter shouldn't have had space at an E3 mainstage show. Platinum shouldn't have taken people's money for find out how much people wanted Wonderful 101 Remastered. I can't help but wonder why people who have credentials aren't able to get their game funded elsewhere. Why aren't they able to get a real investor? Did they even try?
I understand that there's plenty of examples of good crowdfunded games, but my mind can't help but wander to Mighty No. 9 or, even worse, Unsung Story. Tell me how as consumers we demonize pre-orders, yet are willing to risk actually losing money by supporting crowdfunding projects. I'm not sure what the number is of successful high profile crowdfunding projects to unsuccessful, but it definitely feels like there are more failures than successes.
@Medic_Alert I agree that Doom Eternal was deeply disappointing, but for different reasons. The game is all 100% finely tuned gameplay with no cohesive atmosphere or sense of place. Doom 2016 took video game tropes and made them real, while Doom Eternal makes zero effort to suspend your disbelief and often works to remind you it's a game every chance it gets. There's also some serious pacing issues because the game is 110% action as long as you're moving forward, but when you stop to look around or do a platforming section, everything screeches to a halt. Combine this with the fact that every level feels like a video game level and not a real place, and the game practically de-incentivizes exploration. Some may argue that this is harkening back to Doom's roots, but I believe that is wrong. Relative to the time, the Doom games are atmospheric and push tech to the limits to immerse you in their worlds. This takes more inspiration from the Doom comic than any game.
That being said, I think it's a masterclass in combat design with some really incredible arenas, and when the pacing is at 110%, the game is unmatched by anything.
@geni53yr7 Let's say someone gets really hurt or killed on those carts, there's a big lawsuit and it's poorly handled by the small businessman. It ends up in the papers and Nintendo is tied to some bad PR because someone is using their characters without permission. Or maybe MariCar endorses Nazis somewhere down the line. It could potentially harm Nintendo's business.
EDIT: Or the obvious one of Nintendo maybe wanting to use its IP for karts at its own theme park. It could cut into business there, too.
@Trajan That's the only reason I could see for a lack of ports. Someone at Capcom must have done the math and found that it's more worth their time to port classics from the 360 and PS2 eras. Seems like they're leaving money on the table, though.
@TAndvig Firstly, Witcher 3 targets 30fps on consoles and REmakes and RE7 target 60fps, so the frames can be cut in half. Secondly, I have a laptop from 2015 that struggles to run Witcher 3, but can run RE2 at 720p (with some mild resolution scaling) on low at a variable 40-60fps. The RE Engine is amazingly scalable. You can't convince me they couldn't make it work.
@TAndvig I disagree with this completely. Have you played those games on PC? The Witcher 3 is still demanding and the RE Engine is a wonderfully optimized engine that performs really well on underpowered hardware. We should be able to get both REmake 1&2 and DMC5 at 720p/30fps docked with a little tweaking.
@LzWinky Lol, that's fair. Even still, I feel like the worst games back then had a level of competence that the worst games nowadays can't even touch. Maybe the barrier of entry into game development has gotten too low and games have simultaneously gotten more complex?
