Smash Bros. Ultimate isn't the only fighting game winding down. It seems NetherRealm Studios will also be ending DLC support for its 2019 release Mortal Kombat 11.
NetherRealms confirmed this over on Twitter, and also mentioned how it was now focused on its next project. It supported the latest entry in the series for two years with additional content.
Following its original release, a story expansion titled Aftermath was made available alongside Robocop in May 2020, and this was followed by Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate Edition later on in the year.
At this stage, it's unclear what exactly NetherRealm's next game is, but there have been rumours about it being another superhero fighter. Keep in mind, nothing has been officially confirmed.
Did you see Mortal Kombat 11 through the end? What are you hoping to see next from NetherRealm? Leave a comment below.

Up next, Marvel vs. DC.
Shaolin Monks remastered please.
Not an MK fan (too slow and the gore is boring- IMO before some MK fan takes umbrage) but I certainly commend all the support the devs gave this game and putting it on switch.
Injustice 3 please
Good luck to NetherRealm on their next game, MK11 is a really well made game and it's impressive that it's even on Switch. I doubt that their next project will be on Switch, but we'll see, and it'll probably still be great.
Kudos to Netherrealm for putting MK11 on Switch and supporting it for 2 years. I also doubt their next project will end up on Switch, but I look forward to it nonetheless.
While more kontent is always nice, it’s kind of a relief I don’t have to put anymore money into this game. I guess after two years since it’s release I can probably give up hope on them give us switch ports of 9 and X though🙁
I was kinda hoping they would put Deadpool or doomguy in. I really hope it’s a marvel fighting game. Just one with no capcom, just marvel.
It’s probably gonna be that rumored Marvel game
@HotGoomba it probably won’t be on standard switch. But maybe it could come on that switch revision thing or whatever. Or whatever next console Nintendo has soon.
I can see this marvel game probably on a Nintendo console or whatever it is gonna be because the sales of MK11 on switch surprised Netherrealm a lot
Netherrealm were supposed to support this game for years, guess that MK movie tanked real hard
@EriXz It didn't tank but the movie wasn't as what many expected. Most went just for the violence and gore which it had plenty but it lacks a strong plot and had little to no likeable character (other than Kung Lao and Kano both which are killed anyways). The whole movie felt like a very long prologue to an event that never happen.
I don't care what the "next project" is, as long as it is not preachy and hollow like MK 10 and 11 were. I can't be the only one that remembers when games were fun and entertaining once apone a time? What we have nowadays, is just sad and pitiful.
@HotGoomba im pretty sure their next installment will be on the switch
@Shadowthrone there is no way they just skip the switch
@Ghost_of_Hasashi you and I watched 2 different movies
@Ulanda uhhhh what?
@Digimon24 can you maybe be more specific with your comment?
@Ulanda how was MK 10 & 11 preachy & hollow?
@Ulanda I haven't laughed so hard in my life. you need to go touch some grass. My goodness. Please go touch some damn grass 😭😭😭😭
@Digimon24 wow, another blind fanboy... whoopie.
No Ash Williams DLC 🥲
Remember when games were complete before they came out? Me neither.
@FXFletch Those, or heck, even Injustice and especially Injustice 2!!!
Really wanted to buy the ultimate edition but with no cartridge just a download code. It’s a non purchase for me.
It was a fun game but I found the fighting slower than the game before (not sure if that's actually true or just me). I'm glad they bother with single player story though. So many fighting games forget that some people like to play solo.
@Ulanda "Ugifying the female characters"? I thought this and Injustice 2 were the first games NetherRealm made where female character faces actually looked good. They were always boxy and man-ish before.
@SmaggTheSmug The Intellivision Amico will be like that.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi I would have thought it tanked due to a) not been very good (or even average to be honest) and b) I didn't see a single good review (not even dinasty on YouTube, who is a major MKfan)
Anyway, point being there was a 3rd season pass in the works and some people even talk movie skins for existing roster, guess it won't happen
@Ulanda Female characters are ugly? I'm sure the real life face models are happy to hear that. Anyway the female characters are fine and better looking then ever before helped by being based on real life people, have no understanding on how someone could call Kitana, Jade, Skarlet, Cassie and Queen Milf herself Sindel ugly.
As for time travel ruining 30 years of history yeah do realize MK9 already rebooted, retconned and changed nearly all of Midway's MK history right?
@judaspete Wonder Woman was a mess and looked almost like a man. Since MK9, NetherRealm was not able to make ONE good face and it went even worse with especially Sonja Blade in MK11 as like the others. Compare for example Sheeva from MK9 with MK11. This is a huge difference like Day and Night and I'm not talking about her full armor (which was never a problem back in the days.)
@Digimon24 it’s 2023 apparently for release date or maybe 2022. So I think it could come to that rumored New Nintendo Switch.
You are right in a way though. It is possible they could downgrade the graphics like they did MK11 and it’s still pretty good on the switch. Considering, they are STILL using UE3 for games. And they can’t ignore the switch because the switch version of MK11 sold a lot

The well is dry. Time to do it all over again!
They should do an 80s movie fighting game since they have enough already and the WB ownership.
@Ulanda That was my entertaining read for the day 😂😂
@UmbreonsPapa You know what? No, I am not happy with this post of yours. I would like to know what made you so giddy about my post. Please, enlighten me.
@Manjushri This will never happen because too many people buying this crap and therefore, NetherRealm will make more and more of this disaster of a so-called fighting game. This is why we can't have nice things anymore and if they run out of ideas or guest characters, because they ran out of ideas already, NetherRealm will simply remaster the series.
There is no hope, there is no future.
Only endless pain.
@Ulanda Its strange you think this because the faces and facial animation in MK11 is objectively the best in any MK game or NRS game. The faces look awful in MK9 and MKX and well the Midway games are so old now that the faces like most games from back then don't look good now. The face captured is one of the most praised things about the game and most of the characters look exactly like their facial model, Kitana for instance is the spitting image of her face model. Fact is your opinion is clearly the minority so whatever.
Also really you're getting that spent out of shape over MK lore? I love MK, its characters and universe but come on its hardly good stuff, prior to MK9 the story and lore was only there to give mild context to fights.
@WallyWest Let me tell you something, I don't care what people think or believe is the new standard or the best of its kind. To me, the characters look ugly, it is what it is. Whether or not you like it, is all up to you, I don't tell you what to like or not and I certainly don't care if I'm the minority (which isn't true as I'm not the only one who dislikes the character models in 10 and 11) because that makes me an individual and not a member of the herd, that runs after everything shiny they see and attack people, who are different opinion, which you haven't done and I appreciate it.
But when it comes to the story, I don't really get "spent out of shape", but dislike that 30 years of lore build gets thrown out of the room just because some people have no idea how to spin and continue the story. To me, a story is the most important thing for a game, because it builds the backbone of it. Games without a story are boring to me and only show that the developer of said games was simply too lazy or had no idea what to do about it. If you dislike the story, again, that is yours to take, but for me, it was the story that kept the whole thing together and it was interesting to see where it went. Sadly, it ended in the trash bin when I look at 9, but even more with 10 and 11.
I can only tell you how I see it and not how others should see it. If that is not good enough for you, I can't help you. All I can say is, if you like it, that's okay. But when it comes to me, it doesn't.
People get mad when games get tons of DLC and season passes, but when they don't they get mad at "developers not supporting the game". Make up your minds people!
@Ulanda "pandering to a group, that will never touch the game at all", only to be "hip with the kids"
Buddy, MK10 and MK11 are the best-selling games of the series. MK as a video game franchise is the most popular it's ever been. What are you smoking?
@KirbysAdventure As far as I know, I don't smoke, but I'm not blind and follow the herd without thinking like others. Just because it sells, doesn't mean it is good. But to say MK is the most popular franchise is nonsense.
But hey, have fun following the herd. I heard that you get a lot of social points for it, right?
@Ulanda I said MK is the most popular IT'S EVER BEEN, which is correct as the sales figures show. Maybe instead of being a smug little prick, how about you learn some reading comprehension.
@Ulanda Following the herd? Yeah you're clearly one of those people what thinks their opinion is the right opinion. MK right now is more popular then ever as sales prove, while the community is generally toxic what is evident after a while online it does have a massive community made up of fans of all ages older and new. You're free to have your opinion but yes as i said its one shared by few, MK12 will happen and it will no doubt be very popular.
As a gamer first, i would like to see a next gen only MK game. No PS4, no NSW. Maybe they can port it on New Nintendo Switch
Okay with me i guess
@WallyWest Well D'Vorah is pretty ugly, but that's kinda her shtick.
This game is broken. The servers have not been upgraded to keep up with demand Constant disconnects which left me with no rewards after matches. Switch players get alot of crashes. When I was busy completing the Krypt a few months ago, I would get about 10 crashes or so on the title menu in a single day.
@Ulanda Wonder Woman looked like a man in the first Injustice. As did every other female character, especially Raven. Not every female is attractive in Injustice 2, but at least they don't look so masculine. Same thing with MK9. Sonya's jaw was so severely square, she looked like Casper Van Dean with lipstick. She is kinda fugly in MK11, but that's because she's old.
But at least she has her own face. If you look closely in MK9, you will notice Kitana, Jade, Shiva, and Sindel all have the same face. They just change eye color, makeup, and skin tone. And every female has the exact same body. They awkwardly stretch Shiva's torso a little to make room for more arms, but that's it. A pallet swap, that was already being recycled from MK vs DC. I'm sorry you don't like the new designs as much, but least X and 11 are less lazy in this regard.
MK2 remastered definitive edition pls
Only game I wish I could get my money back for. It's ugly as can be on switch and maybe I find a match that doesn't lag from the start one out of 10 times. Story mode was okay except of how bad it looks.
Gotta wonder if they are actually working on a Marvel vs DC fighting game.
@westman98 I'm 99% sure that if we were ever going to see Marvel and DC collaboration in a videogame, the team at TT Games would have already done a LEGO videogame (also owned by Warner Bros) featuring the two - but, no. They've actually done loads of seperate games...
Disney and Marvel would probably be slightly more up for it given the demise of their gaming, but DC? No chance they want their characters anywhere near Marvel's.
@nocdaes
Dang, that's actually a good point. There have been DC and Marvel LEGO games, but no LEGO games with both DC and Marvel characters.
