Update: Signature Edition Games has revealed that the lovely Prisoner's Edition of Dead Cells will now feature the Bad Seed DLC - and the Rise of the Giant DLC - on the cart, and has also provided a new release date.
Originally, the Bad Seed DLC was planned to be included as a digital download code, but following "unprecedented demand" from fans, it will now be included on the cart as standard. The original 30th June release date has been pushed back due to coronavirus-related delays, and the new release date is now set for the end of August.
You can find more details in our original article below.
Original Article (Tue 11th Feb, 2020 14:00 GMT): Dead Cells is about to receive its biggest, most super-duper edition yet with this newly-announced Dead Cells - Prisoner's Edition physical release on Nintendo Switch.
Presented in an embossed collector’s tin, this new bundle comes with a 22cm figure of the Prisoner himself, a physical copy of the game, the new Bad Seed DLC, a 7" orange vinyl, pins, stickers, a certificate, a print, keyring, and an art booklet. Phew.
It's set to release on 30th June for both Switch and PS4 and will be priced at £89.99 / €109.99 / $109.99. Pre-orders have just gone live on the Signature Edition website; the first 500 people to pre-order one will receive a limited edition collector's coin as another bonus, and stock for the main bundle will be limited to 10,000 copies worldwide.
You can get a closer look at the Prisoner figure in the video above if you haven't already. Also, feel free to enter our competition to win one of these lovely bundles on Twitter below.

I feel like this has released before?
Was not that impressed with the game as a whole. I understand these games can be repetitive but this seemed even more repetitive than most. The genre is also oversaturated at the moment.
This physical is the same GotY physical as the one available now right? Only the extras are new?
This feels like Merge Games pushing their biggest title as much as possible, this is like the third major physical release they're giving it.
10,000 limited edition copies is an extremely ambitious number that will be difficult to sell-through, I worry that this will put them in the red.
Pretty awesome set! Nice goodies.
I've been playing the game recently and got the first boss cell but upgrading things atm feels like a grind and I haven't had as steady progression as in the beginning so I'm sort of losing interest now. Yet I know there is probably plenty more stuff I haven't even seen yet. I like Hollow Knight a lot more but the action in this game is very tight. I will try and give it another shot soon.
I have this on PC but would like to get a physical copy for the Switch but they keep releasing DLC and different phyiscal editions so I'll have to wait.
All that superfluous junk and they couldn't be bothered printing a cartridge with the DLC already on it, which ought to be the main attraction.
Not a fan of companies releasing limited editons many months after the ordinary physical version was released (same goes for physical re-release of eShop games).
All these special editions are starting to feel like saturation. I love physicals but all the trinkets is just becoming a bit too much too often.
FYI it is Without DLC because they " decided to not include the DLC on the cart to reduce cost for the customer."

Dang I want that figure
This won't sell very well at all. Most people who wanted Dead Cells have it already, so there's really no incentive other than the physical aspect of the extras you get. They should have released something like this when the game came out.
Same old non-updated cartridge is a no go for me. What a waste.
I heard it comes with a steel book blu ray disc of Philip Muchin's review of the game!
I don't think they will sell through 10,000 copies. This will be the third release for this game, my Best Buy has the two retail versions side by side at the same price.
The are robbing us blind here...
Prisoner’s Edition is perfect for me, I’m just about to go to jail for several years
No DLC, no deal... and no thanks for the junk 😒
Loving this game and I'm not even the biggest fan of roguelikes! This kind of feels like HC Diablo side-scroller cause of all the loot! <3<3<3
Downloaded the dlc and got sucked into the game again. Its so good, and I want this edition in my dead cells collection.
I do not trust these guys anymore. The signature edition was initially limited to something like 3000 pieces. After the game turned out to be a success, they got greedy, simply removed the limitation and simply started to produce as much copies as they could sell. It was my first and last signature edition as I refuse to support a company that deceives people, especially their early customers. So do not expect this 10.000 copies number to mean anything, nor the 500.
Just found out I won this, woo hoo! Delighted, thank you 😊
How many times are these guys going to repackage the same game with a new label?
@PiXeLSteF Yes. It reminds me of the way From Soft deceived the public with regards to Dark Souls 2, then later repackaged it and resold it.
Honestly, hearing this sort of thing burns me out on trying to keep up with “new” releases.
I had my concerns about the viability of this collector's edition, but Merge Games seem to be doing fine.
365games has had a pre-order listing for many months, and it's currently listed as sold out.

That suggests that the demand is really there.
So, it's complete on cart now? Hmmm...
I’m sorry I’m just not on board with U-turn after U-turn and limited runs being done after main releases or multiple limited runs. They are attempting to milk their fan base for all they can.
Tried to be lazy and not have dlc on cart and now it is on cart?!?!?
Didn’t want to pass the cost onto fans. Ha. Repackage unsold carts more like.
I’m a cynic but too many companies trying to milk same stuff over and over. Make a sequel and cash in that way.
“Everyone else is doing it so why can’t we”
The Cranberries were ahead of their time and right all along. The morale compass of the gaming industry is really not where it should be
They should have waited until they were done working on this game before doing a complete on the cart version like this. Not sure if it’s live on the Switch version but the Update of Plenty is a hugely significant free content update that went live on the Steam version a couple weeks ago that likely isn’t on this cart.
Passed already had the original physical release. Just make a sequel already.
I bought physical last year (GOTY edition, I think??) so I think I'm all set for Dead Cells fun, unless this is the FINAL-ULTIMATE-ALL-DLC-EVERYTHING-ON-THE-CART version. If it is, I may be willing to trade up (like I did for the Attack on Titan game when they re-issued that).
@setezerocinco then there is no point in buying it phusical
I actually won this like... back in February? Was supposed to get the base game and DLC plus this Prisoner’s Edition when it came out! Obviously it has yet to be released but I have never actually received the base game either, sadly.
They are milking this game hard. I love the game but there isn't a need for 3 different versions just to add some dlc in each time.
I loved this game, but I’m gonna be honest: I’ve never understood the appeal of Collectors editions with figures. They always turn out to be kinda jicky and similar figures go for way less when not sold as part of the set.
@RupeeClock honestly there fault for releasing this game 3 TIMES already, like two times I get, a launch release and a definitive all dlc on cart release, but more than 2 is pushing it
Not bothered about the special edition, none of the extras really interest me.
First the normal edition, then the Game of the year edition. now this one... and probably one more, one year from now with another DLC in it. . This is already nonsense.
All DLC included on cart! This is the must have version for me!
