Forever Entertainment is quite the mover in the retro remaster scene, seemingly being SEGA's preferred partner for reviving some classics and also working on un-named remakes for Square Enix. It's now been confirmed that the company is partnering up with Microids for retail and collector's editions of a couple of fan favourites.
Both Panzer Dragoon: Remake and the upcoming The House of the Dead: Remake will be coming to stores and onto cartridges, which is excellent news for Switch collectors keen on these blasts from the past. Microids CEO Stéphane Longeard is quoted as follows in the press release:
Microids is incredibly grateful to work on these mythical IPs and we’re glad Forever Entertainment entrusts our teams to deliver the best possible products. This new partnership consolidates our growth strategy revolving around video game distribution worldwide.
Specific details on these editions will apparently come 'very soon', so we'll keep an eye out for updates.
So, are you excited by the chance to get physical copies of these games?

Yes I wanted the house of dead one especially 😊
Announcing physical editions always put a smile on my face
A bit unsure to be honest. Panzer Dragoon performed so much better on my PsPro I ended up double-dipping. I'd definitely like physical, but neither are games I'm likely to play on the go so I'd prefer these two for one of the other machines.
Yay for house of the dead physical copy
Awesome news. So I can finally pick up Panzer Dragoon for a normal price. Not these crazy Limited Run prices
@noobish_hat People are buying from them because the "big" guys do not want to make physical copies.
I buy from LRG very often. It is expensive, yes but when no other option is present what can you do? Wait? Nope, some games are only available from LRG and it will be that way for a while.
Small examples that I can think of are Blasphemous and Streets of Rage 4.
But how to get physical copy of Castlevania Collection, Doom Collection, Divinity Original Sin 2, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon and many more? The original publishers do not care to make physical copies themselves because they are afraid of losing profits.
This is the future from now on as more and more gamers say that digital is the future. At least some "vampire" organizations can provide what others don't want to.
I do not care from where my physical copy arrives (as long as it is not from a scalper )
Panzer Dragoon regularly drops to around £5 on the eshop, I just can’t justify buying it physically
@Nintendo4Sonic I’m also fed up with those Limited Run prices…
Speaking of that, when is house of the dead coming out?
@Drommajin @Nintendo4Sonic Damn it, I fell for the Limited Run prices, so don't think I'll double dip
But anyways will definately pick up the House of the Dead, one of my favorite Arcade games
Looking good, but seeing joycon stick control. Going to miss the Wii remote point'n-shoot control scheme.
Sega Rally: Remake next!!
Is this only for the UK and EU or worldwide? LRG already did a physical release of Panzer Dragoon.
those HOTD physicals are MINE!!
Neat! Glad I didn't buy the LRG version of PD.
This is great news! We need more Sega Saturn exclusives to come to the Switch! Panzer Dragoon II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Shining Force III above all.
As long as they're not limited editions like SRG, LRG and the likes, yes, I'm excited. Good thing I didn't buy Panzer Dragoon Remake even when it was at 5 euro.
But I wish these physical releases were made available prior to their digital counterparts. A lot of people doesn't wait, buys immediately and then has to double dip if they want to have the physical editions.
Neat. But if you own a Playstation or Xbox I highly recommend getting that version instead of/in addition to this. I bought the LRG physical of this on Switch and it's pretty ugly compared to the stronger consoles, similar to Trials of Mana.
I'm guessing that Panzer Dragoon listing on EB Games' website wasn't complete BS after all. But I got a copy from LRG, so I'm good.
That said, interested in the HOTD remake.
@Zuljaras
Genuinely, I don't know why people are so hung up on physical now. I mean, I buy NIntendo stuff because it holds its value. Some others, like Hades, Dead Cells, weren't any more expensive that their Eshop equivalents. But stuff like Castlevania collection regularly drops to £4.00 - I can't justify the extra £80-£100 for a (nice) cardboard box with a lot of tat inside. The Doom games - I've probably paid £5.00 for 1, 2 & 3.
Microids says two things:
-the quality of the actual game can be anywhere between perfectly functional, and Blacksad / XIII remake unplayable.
-the quality of the physical release will be very much ok, with probably a sleeved and / or steelbook day one edition with some cards and stuff, probably more than one option for a collector's edition as well.
@SpringDivorce There are different types gamers.
Some prefer value like waiting for games to be dirt cheap and buy them from the eShop.
Others are digital only because it is more convenient.
And there are those like me who prefer to own things in physical form. That is why I also like to tap into the second hand market as there are lots of options. It is the same as book readers many switched to eReaders but there are people who still want to buy books make from paper.
So in the end it is good to offer something for both sides. For the people that want to get Doom for 5$ and the ones that want Doom on a cartridge for 50$.
I do not see the problem
@Zuljaras I'm somewhere in between all of that. I wait for dirt cheap, and sometimes still go for slightly more expensive physical. But I always wait until I feel like prices have probably dropped to a low they won't beat anytime soon. recently got Xenoblade Definitive on Switch physically for €25, I don't think it'll ever drop that low digitally. Years of collecting has given me some insight into what prices to expect when under what circumstances by what developer / publisher. And it taught me to collect less in the first place, and play some more, where 90% off digital sales are the best and indeed more convenient way to go. Freed up a ton of budget to live of, and in turn a ton of time to live (and play games, although it's far less than I'd have imagined I'd be playing with so much free time) and not be working.
I do still have a weak spot for cardboard boxes and paper manuals though, but I most of the time just get over it. I would have liked to have Snake Pass physically, as I still think that was one of the most brilliant 3D platformers in decades, but it was limited, and I wasted my time arguing "it's not worth the price, I already have it and finished it 100% like ten times" and "but it is worth it, it's a masterpiece AND IT HAS A PAPER MANUAL".
I find it difficult to be excited about a third physical release for Panzer Dragoon remake (first LRG, then Forever Limited) on Switch. And I think the HoD remake will disappoint; nice to see a physical release announced for it though.
If house of the dead doesn't come with a light gun its literally a useless remake.
@SpringDivorce I've got a number of physical games that have doubled or tripled in value over the last year or so. As digital and streaming takes over, physical pieces of video game history will become more and more sought after by video game enthusiasts. Not in every case, but in many. While I do not buy physical games as a financial investment, the fact that some of them can become more valuable over time does add to the fun a bit.
@Bunkerneath the only Limited Run game in my collection is Star Wars Episode 1 Racer. But I got this for at least 45 bucks. But Panzer Dragoon is too expensive so far.
@Drommajin yeah man, but thankfully a lot of good stuff comes without Limited Run
House of the dead but only if it has a light gun or uses the IR sensor as a light gun.
@gojiguy I totally agree. No light gun means the original was better.
I hope some sort of light gun will be announced
@noobish_hat Why are you paying for the limited editions? Every time I order from Limited Run, I get the standard edition. Doom was $40, and Castlevania Collection was $35. Those prices are more than reasonable.
@gcunit
I appreciate the physical resale point, but I'm not jumping in on stupidly-priced Limited Editions for my kids to sell them off when I'm dead and gone
@gojiguy Sounds like a job for Labo!
Another way to scare me I played the PS and that was enough scared moments.
@noobish_hat That would actually be quite fun.
@SpringDivorce funny you mentioned that with the kids. I have a huge collection I’m probably gonna leave behind for them to sell off. Problem is they don’t have the first clue about what I own in terms of its value lol.
Woohoo, I love Microids so much. I have picked up a number of their releases and have had a lot of fun. Agreed on Labo blaster for House of the Dead, that would be awesome!!
Looks great, will try and get a physical copy!
@ThomasBW84 Time to update the article. https://twitter.com/VideoGamesPlus_/status/1502498117970714624
