Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Nintendo Direct At E3 2021?

SonOfStayPuft

I really enjoyed it. I went in expecting nothing big and was pleasantly surprised.

I’m glad they’re saving Mario Kart 9 & the next 3D Mario for next gen. I would have liked them, but I was happy with more Mario Golf news & the Mario Party & WarioWare reveals.

I’m also glad they didn’t announce Switch Pro. Mine won’t feel outdated & it means they can focus on the next Gen Console.

Re: The Original Super Mario Bros. Movie Gets An Extended Cut Fan Release

SonOfStayPuft

Oh god no.

It’s not even “So bad it’s good”.

It’s terrible. I watched it as a Kid at the Cinema & got the Toys, then watched it again as an Adult & realised it was awful. I really wanted to find something good in it. The only good thing about it is the Soundtrack. And Samantha Mathis.

Toad as a Human Busker? The Goombas and Koopa Troopas as Giant Dumb Creatures?

I can laugh at terrible movies, but this? This was the Directors taking all my Mario Games & pissing on them in front of my very eyes with this Movie.

Why would I want to see a Directors Cut when the Directors couldn’t even Direct it in the first place? 😂

Re: Celebrate Star Wars Day With These Switch eShop Discounts

SonOfStayPuft

@echoplex I picked it up in the last Sale & I’m actually enjoying it. It plays really well undocked too & for a 22 year old game, I’m enjoying it as much as I did when I had it on the N64 & PC.

It’s not amazing and you can tell it was an N64 Title, I won’t lie, but at £6.14, it’s a really good price, for an enjoyable piece of nostalgia.

Re: How Do You Feel About Mario After His 35th Anniversary? Nintendo Apparently Wants To Know

SonOfStayPuft

Am I disappointed that Super Mario Galaxy 2 was not on 3D All-Stars & that Super Mario 35 is no longer playable? Yeah

Do I love Mario any less? Nope.

I still love Mario and co a lot. There’s something charming about that little Plumber and his games that bring out that childlike joy in most of us. I can go back and play Super Mario Bros 3 and still feel like that kid playing it on the NES, while appreciating it even more as an Adult, and then there’s Super Mario Galaxy and Odyssey, where the Adult in me really respects and loves the game design, score, soundtrack & worlds.

I’m not some weird man child, and yeah some of it may be my Dyspraxia talking, but every “Wahoo!” and “Let’s-a-go!” etc from Charles Martinez brings me joy. I even smile when I occasionally break out the Lego Mario sets.

Re: Soapbox: 'I'll Play It On Game Pass' Is Becoming Common, But Does That Affect Switch eShop?

SonOfStayPuft

I’m not gonna lie, Game Pass Ultimate has been a saviour and has saved me so much money on Games.

I saw Rain on Your Parade on eShop yesterday & it’s currently £10.71 which is a good price, but I got in on Game Pass the day before & while it would be fun to play it on the go in Handheld Mode & is supporting the developers, that £11 could go towards another game that isn’t on Xbox Game Pass.

Skyrim is another example. I get a lot of Switch Games hold their value, but even in the Sale, £25 is a lot of money to pay for a remaster of a 10 year old game that I can get for cheaper or better still, free on Xbox Game Pass.

I’m not cheap, hell, I buy a lot of full price Switch Games, but I’ll be honest, I’m not going to buy the same game again if it’s free on Game Pass.

Re: Random: This Might Just Be The Longest Title We've Ever Seen For A Nintendo Switch Game

SonOfStayPuft

Imagine going into a Game Store & asking for this.

“Excuse me. Do you have that Defeat Monsters Game for Nintendo Switch?”

“Which one do you mean? There’s loads of Switch Games where you defeat Monsters”

Sighs after having to repeat it for the 5th time after trying 4 other shops “ Defeat Monsters to Get Strong Swords and Armor. We Believe in the Day the Heroes will Defeat the Demon Lord.”

Re: Talking Point: Is The N64 Pad Actually The Best Controller Ever?

SonOfStayPuft

It was horrible to use at times, but I still loved it.

Let’s be honest though, the best controller Nintendo have ever put out is the Pro Controller for the Switch. You can disagree, but you’re wrong if you do.

Yeah it’s more of a traditional controller compared to the others that felt different, but it is a gamechanger on the Switch.

Re: Random: One Of America's Biggest News Outlets Takes The 'Mario’s Going To Die' Meme Way Too Seriously

SonOfStayPuft

I have to admit, I did sigh a little sigh as I deleted Super Mario 35 from my Switch Library yesterday.

I played it one last time before it ended & then deleted it. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.

I then placed my Switch in it’s dock, poured one out for the Plumber, turned off my TV, then went to bed dejected knowing April 1st would be a dark day.

I woke up this morning feeling like a part of me was missing.

Well, I didn’t really. I logged into Animal Crossing New Horizons to get my Daily Nook Miles & chuckled at Captain Toad saying “Ready for Adventure!” before every level I played in Treasure Tracker. It still gets me that does.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Pro "Will Have Exclusives", Says Insider

SonOfStayPuft

I know they’ve done this before & it depends on how big the titles are, but there is a risk that Nintendo could piss off a lot of people with this if it turns out to be true.

“You’re one of the 80M who bought a Switch or Switch Lite? Then tough, you can’t play these new titles on your Console.”

Imagine if Microsoft had said “You can only play Gears 5 on Xbox One X” or Sony said “You can only play The Last of Us Part II on PS4 Pro”. There would have been hell to pay.

Re: Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Is Now Available In The UK For £79.99

SonOfStayPuft

The big Mario Fan in me wants this because, Mario. That, and it looks fun and I love the Mario Kart Series, but then like a lot of others here, it’s down to room and space & I don’t have a big living room.

I know I’d get it, play it a couple of times this year, then it’ll end up the same way as the Lego Super Mario Sets my Wife bought me for Christmas...packed away in a Lego Storage Box until we get a bigger place.

Re: The New Animal Crossing X Mario Warp Pipe Lets You Access The Fourth Level

SonOfStayPuft

It was great to see all the new Mario items this morning...only to be told I was only allowed to purchase 5 a day.

I know I could use the Time Travel trick to speed it up, but it’s a faff & I can’t be arsed doing that. That, and I’ve never used Time Travel because I prefer to wait.

If I’m spending Bells, Nintendo should up the daily amount we can purchase.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch Pro' Console Still Aiming For 2021 Launch, According To Known Insider

SonOfStayPuft

Nintendo’s smartest move would be to leave a Switch Pro & use those resources into focusing on the next console & Joy Con Drift etc.

The Switch is selling really well, and I’m not paying another £300 or whatever just to play Super Mario Odyssey & other games in 4K.

Nintendo aren’t about power, they’re about innovation.

I didn’t buy an Xbox One X because the next one was out the year after.

Part of me thinks it’ll happen so they can make their great games look better, but the other part of me thinks they won’t because they’re releasing a Monster Hunter, Mario and possibly a Zelda themed Console this year, and a Switch Pro would just make the special edition consoles only be worth something to collectors & those who can’t afford a 4KTV.

Re: Nintendo Announces 'Digital Deals' Sale, Up To 75% Off (Europe)

SonOfStayPuft

So Skyrim will now be at the low low price of £39.99 and Breath of the Wild will be discounted to the BARGAIN price of £47.99 or something like that.

Mario & Rabbids Kingdom Battle is already on Sale for the 200th time this year, so no further reductions on that.

I’ll have a look at the Sales, but I can’t imagine there will be anything I need. I’ll check my Wishlist though.

Re: Charles Martinet Would Love To Voice Mario In Upcoming Illumination Movie

SonOfStayPuft

It’ll end up being an Angry Birds Movie situation where they end up getting big name actors to fill the roles. Plus, big names on a Poster help sell the Movie, even though it’ll be aimed more at kids like a lot of the Merchandise is (although us Big Kids buy it too 😂)

I have a feeling they’ll go for someone like Charlie Day for the energy of the character.

I wonder if it’s a Unionisation thing too, like with Ben Schwartz only playing Sonic on the Big Screen.

Overall though, I hope the Movie is made with love, like Sonic was. Mario deserves it. Yeah there will be silly jokes for the kids, and it’s Illumination, but with Shiggsy involved, I can imagine it’ll look gorgeous and not be too dumbed down.

Re: Try To Act Surprised, The Nintendo Switch Conquered Europe In 2020

SonOfStayPuft

Congrats Nintendo! Well deserved!

It still blows my mind that GTA V still sells so well. I know GTA Online is still huge, but 8 years on, who doesn’t own a copy now? Lol.

As for the Switch and titles like Animal Crossing New Horizons, the Pandemic and Lockdown definitely played a huge part in the sales boost last year. Those that couldn’t get one when Nintendo couldn’t keep up with demand in the first lockdown got one for or around Christmas time & the Switch Lite was popular with people who wanted to just play on the go.

Ring Fit Adventure would no doubt have been massively popular too due to Gyms being shut.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is another great lockdown Title too for Families.

Remasters like the Mario Remasters & no doubt upcoming Zelda and Pokemon Remasters will carry on boosting Sales along with the other big releases like Breath of the Wild 2 that will come later this year.

Nintendo for me are about innovation, and people need that right now.

Re: Talking Point: So, What Are The Chances We'll See A 'New' Nintendo Switch In 2021?

SonOfStayPuft

They don’t need to. The Switch is only 4 years old. I know Microsoft & Sony have 4K Consoles, and the BOTW 4K Video looked stunning, but Nintendo aren’t about trying to compete technically, they prefer to innovate.

They should let the current model keep selling like hot cakes & put all their focus on the next gen Console.

I know Microsoft released the Xbox One X, but that came out a year before the Series S & X, so if Nintendo WERE to release a more powerful Switch this year, then it would be stupid to release the next Gen Console until at least 2023 unless it was Backwards Compatible.

Re: NES DuckTales Originally Had An Option For Scrooge To Give Up His Fortune

SonOfStayPuft

Nah, not a bad ending, but I like the one we have.

DuckTales Remastered & the Disney Afternoon Collection would be great on the Switch, and would be day one purchases. I already own them on the Xbox, but to be able to play them on the go? Take my Money Nintendo!

I loved the NES Version as a Kid, and still do now. The Moon Theme is one of the greatest pieces of Video Game Music of all time. Jake Kaufman did an incredible job on Remastered, and I’m not gonna lie, I teared up a little when I first booted up the Moon Level.

Re: New Super Nintendo World Videos Show POV Ride Footage, Café, Merch And Lots More

SonOfStayPuft

I’m genuinely excited to go sometime. We’ll do the Florida one, when that is built, but I’ve said to my Wife that we need to do Japan too. I’m 38, but I genuinely will be like a big kid here.

I’ll definitely pick up some Merchandise & I can’t wait to try the Food & ride the Rides. I’ve already said to my Wife I’ll be going for a Mario Power Up Band. I have to. He’s the main man! He’s my go to guy on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe & Super Mario Party.

Re: Soapbox: Oh No, I Accidentally Made Animal Crossing Into A Time Capsule Of Misery

SonOfStayPuft

This game still has me by the b*llocks and is refusing to let go. I log in everyday to get my Daily Nook Miles from Residential Services, I pick Pumpkins every 2 days to sell, I try and build the perfect Snowman, I dig up Fossils to sell as I have completed that part of Blathers’ Museum, I play the Events & I have completed all debts to Tom Nook including the 500,000 Bells for Expanded Storage, yet I still find something to do.

I can sit there for an hour just running around on my Island, digging, shaking, selling & swimming and feel afterwards like I’ve done nothing of value, but it’s addictive. It’s charming.

I’m really excited for the Super Mario Furniture & Items etc soon too.

Re: Another Person Got In Trouble For Breaking Lockdown Restrictions To Play Pokémon GO

SonOfStayPuft

Imagine risking your health and life to try and catch a f*cking Pikachu on your Phone.

I love going out and I love gaming, but is it really worth it for some screechy colourful thing on your phone?

I know you can go out for little walks, and Pokemon GO is a massively successful game, but if someone said to me “Martin, fancy coming on a 14 mile walk? This park has a rare Togepi!” I’d message back saying “Don’t be f*cking stupid. Put down your phone & think of your health.”

Re: Review: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition - Still The Bob-omb 10 Years On

SonOfStayPuft

Had it on the Xbox 360 & loved it, so this is a definite purchase.

The soundtrack is excellent.

I agree about the difficulty though. One minute you’re smashing through enemies, the next you’re getting your arse handed to you, then the next you’re back to feeling like the Hulk but in virtual Michael Cera form.

I’m looking forward to the Online Multiplayer too.

Time to break out the L Word!

Re: Nintendo Unveils Brand New 'Mario Red & Blue' Switch Console

SonOfStayPuft

It’s nice, and will be collectible, but it needs a bit more Mario branding. It just looks like a Red and Blue Switch that someone could have customised.

The Joycons needed the iconic M. The Switch Dock could have also had the print that Carry Case has. I do like how when the Joycons are in the Grip though, it all resembles his iconic Dungarees and Jumper.

Re: A New Trailer For Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Is Airing Later Today

SonOfStayPuft

I’ll be logging on at 2pm to watch the Trailer.

I can’t wait! I never played it on the Wii U, so when the pre-install happens around the 5th Feb, that’s when I’ll be truly excited. Going in open minded though, but just hoping for a fun time. But let’s be honest, will happen. It’s a cute platformer featuring the Italian Plumber we all love with an occasional Cat costume that makes him & his mates look like Furries at a Convention.
