There was a lot of information to take in in the recent Splatoon 2 Nintendo Direct, and a lot of it was bundled in with a load of stuff we already knew, clearly for the uninitiated that were watching. As such you'd be forgiven for missing a few of the smaller things of note here and there, so we decided it would be best to distill the entire presentation down to its base components and deliver unto you just the new stuff.
You can find 52 chunks of delicious new information in the video above to help keep you fresh in the run up to the game's release.

Caaaaant wait
Just because there is room for a fourth game type does not mean we will get one. Remember in Slatoon when we thought we might get a third level in rotation....
Marina and another one
ROTFLMFAO!!
@Equinox Probably because the Echolocator and the Shield special moves were kinda OP.
Ink Armour looks suspiciously like it's supposed to create a medic-like role within Splatoon. Makes me hope this might just be the game TF2 should have been instead of becoming a Pay2Win.
@Equinox I've been seeing this viewpoint all over, and I can't really comprehend it. 4 out of 7 specials guaranteed instant death if the enemy touched it. 2 provided straight-up invincibility. One was a wallhack. All of these new specials have potential for mayhem, but they are massively toned down, you gotta work for that mayhem and not just win a match by pressing in the stick at the right time.
Really psyched for this, loved the first game

@Radbot42 It wouldn't surprise me if a new game mode is revealed within the next year.
Splatoon launched with just Turf War, and then Ranked game in later, and then Rainmaker was added to Ranked at a later date still.
I'd guess we'll get one new mode and nothing more, and that it'll be revealed between a month and three months after the game's launch.
I don't know why people predicted that the map rotation would be expanded to three in the original, as there was never any evidence for it.
Admittedly, there's not any real evidence for my above prediction either, other than that you would expect the developers to consider at least one new mode a pretty obvious addition for a sequel, and also that they may wish to have some major announcements for DLC to keep the game feeling relevant and 'fresh'. And I suppose you could class that blank space as 'evidence' if you were feeling desperate.
But thinking back to the hype and mystery that surrounded the launch of the original 'Rainmaker' mode, it'd surprise me if we didn't get something similar again. I doubt Splatoon 2 will grow quite as much post-launch as Splatoon 1 did, as it's releasing as a sequel to an already 'full' game, but it really wouldn't surprise me if they've still got a big reveal or two left in the pipeline.
@raygboyd333 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
odd seeing olney in text form. i thought he stayed only in the swanky heights of video, and didn't soil his toes in the murky hood of nlife's text peasantry.
It seems as though all characters are present in the game except Capt. cuttlefish who was mentioned in squid sister stories, but there is no evidence of him being in this game.Same deal with dr octavio
Just realized jellonzo isn't present... unless jellonzo and jellfonzo are the same person
@PtM "Here, have this helpful content entirely free of charge"
"I want it, but I want you to do it twice in different formats"
Can you see the issue here?
@AlexOlney I personally don't mind it in video format, but maybe the dude's at work or school or something and would rather just read it on the down-low... :3
I see no issue in voicing a preference.
Marina >>>>> Pearl
Like at least with Splatoon 1 there could be a debate, but for me in Splatoon 2, Marina is clearly best girl
Clearly, Splatoon 2 is just two Splatoons duct-taped together.
I just met squid in Splatoon 2 Splatfest demo named Alex with a painting of: Hello there, lovely people!. That was you right Alex?
@Equinox I am getting that vibe, but seeing how much re-balancing the first game went through I suspect we're gonna see a few weeks of bullet hell followed by some well-needed nerfing once they know who the greatest offenders are.
@AlexOlney Actually, I'm kind of with him. It is helpful to have a video laying out the info, but Nintendolife isn't a charity. We keep our adblockers off and do what we can to support the site because we like it, seems like he's entitled to give feedback if it would lead to him visiting the site more.
Heck, I would too. I'm not a fan of YouTube videos, I also prefer to just read and check the images when there's something to show off.
Ink Armor reminds me very much of Medic's Ubercharge from Team Fortress 2.
@dystome : If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did TF2 become P2W?
@SomeBitTripFan Weapons and Crates.
@AlexOlney: Great video as always! 👍
There's just one minor thing: we do already know what the gear abilities do!
Maybe you could incorporate them into an updated version of your video?
Thank you so much for reading, byebye.
@MarioBrax: Is that it? You can get all 126 functionally different weapons for $1 or less, easily. And even then, the default primary weapon is usually the best overall. Only the secondary and melee slots matter. Everything else was either cosmetic, counted kills, or was dirt cheap (weapons) through trading.
I really like the separate ranks for different modes. I never really cared for turf war nor splat zones. I hope they introduce a new mode, that's the only real let down here. Played all that stuff on the last game, yes new maps and weapons but cmon new mode my boys. The wave mode looks to be fun too.
Loved to see you have different pants options now.
@Equinox I used to feel the same way, until I saw the umbrella, its a great balance of offensive and defensive
@AlexOlney
If we wanted to watch a video, we've already got the actual Nintendo Direct...
Finally found my perfect weapon. Unfortunately, the splat brella won't be available right away...☹️
Loving NintendoLife's Purple Splatoon 2 theme. 👍
I never even got the chance to play the first Splatoon due to the location I lived so you can bet I will be getting in on this action. Perhaps not on launch day though, since I am trying to save some moolah.
So hyped! Awesome video too.
@SomeBitTripFan They added the Mann Co. Store in 2010, prior to which was the golden era in which it wasn't possible to unlock weapons by paying for them.
