Re: Poll: How Would You Rate The Summer Game Fest 2024 Opening Showcase?

SirCarbs

Pretty bland for me, but I expected it to be so. With all these gaming companies getting shut down, all that was left were mostly major studios putting out their usual AAA trends.

My only hope was that MAYBE Capcom was actually gonna’ surprise us with something unusual, as their promotional campaign went beyond the usual (last time they did that we got Megaman 11). But no, just the usual stuff, Monster Hunter & Street fighter.

Not even any news from Transformers Reactivate, which now may be a cancelled lost game. So yeah, a total bust for me, not even worth rating.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition Officially Announced

SirCarbs

Looking forward to hearing more news, the first game was such a charmer with a good story.

I’ve given up on the sequel, but frankly I never cared much for it to begin with. The need to make the BG&E2 even more edgy with excessive swearing was off putting; I disliked that it was more of a prequel than a sequel, and I wasn’t really fond of the open world concept. If anything, I just wanted the sequel to be more of the first game. The early concept videos for
the original sequel plans from the late 2000’s were far more interesting imo.

Re: Capcom Provides A Vague But Mildly Promising Update On Mega Man's Future

SirCarbs

Honestly, I’ll believe it when I see it.

It’s Capcom, and as much as I’d like to be optimistic, I’ve never been so let down by a company as much as these guys, so we’ll just wait and see. We’re long overdue for a Legends 3 and X9, those should be the first games they tackle. I’m all for new as well, but we’ve got some cliffhangers to resolve!

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The June 2023 Nintendo Direct

SirCarbs

I need something about that new Deca Police game that's supposed to be coming out from Level-5 sometime this year, otherwise at this point I'll be convinced it won't make it's 2023 release window.

I can't say I've never been so hyped for a game that I don't even know anything about other than the trailers, very nerve racking - lol

Re: Capcom May Consider A Ghost Trick Sequel If There's Enough Support

SirCarbs

Knowing Capcom, this feels like a lie. We Megaman fans have been showing support with the anniversary collections and all we have to show for it is…an offline gacha game that no one asked for on the 35th anniversary (still waitin’ in Legends 3 & X9!)

I mean, I hope I’m wrong and Ghost Trick fans get a sequel. Seriously, Capcom needs to start branching out from the usual plethora of MH and RE games…

Re: Rumour: It Looks Like Optimus Prime Is Heading To Fortnite

SirCarbs

Every time I look at these Fortnite skins all I can think of is "man, sure would be nice if they just had a game of their own instead of being on this game...".

Salty I know, but it's been a long time since I've played a new Transformers game - and a G1 style or whatever version they want to go for would be fun to have on the switch (not counting battlegrounds as it doesn't look that great.)

Re: Inti Creates' Gunvolt Series "Has Come To A Close For Now"

SirCarbs

Seeing as they're the closest we get to anything "Mega Man" these days, I'd love for them to do a "Megaman Legends" spiritual successor. I remember they were helping Inafune to develop that Red Ash game back in 2018, and while that was a total disaster, it's always possible they could recycle the concept into something new?

Re: Talking Point: Which Other Mega Man Games Could Come To Switch?

SirCarbs

Does my heart good to see so many people voting for Legends! It’s not just my favourite Megaman series, it’s just one of my top favourite gaming series period!

Although while nothing would give me joy to finally play those games on handheld, I do hope they rework the controls for newcomers. I know tank controls can be a hard sell. If I’m honest, the best thing Capcom could do is a straight up remake - maybe using the Monster Hunter Stories graphics/engine???

Re: Round Up: Everything Announced At The Level-5 Vision 2023 Showcase

SirCarbs

@Coolmusic I’m super hyped for Deca Police too! Unfortunately I’m one of the weird ones that’s bummed about an anime. I really don’t care for adaptations, as It will probably be the exact same story that I already experienced from the game.

Now, if it’s a unique story idea taking place after the game’s story? Count me in!

Re: Mario Movie Directors Explain Their Take On Princess Peach

SirCarbs

@Il_Nintenditore I dunno about that man, we have yet to see the movie and so far everything about it looks promising. There’s nothing on my end to project, I’m quite comfortable and confident in the film and with Peach’s direction so far.

I’ve actually seen a lot of recent films, and animation is doing great compared to live action for the most part. Let your guard down and just see what happens.

Re: Mario Movie Directors Explain Their Take On Princess Peach

SirCarbs

@Bass_X0
“I don’t want her to become some stuck-up B who humiliates Mario in the movie just because she thinks she is superior to him on account of her being a woman.“

My dude, there’s a lot of projection & insecurity in that comment. You okay?

I know I don’t get those vibes from the trailers, neither should you. It’s Mario’s first time meeting Peach in a time where they’re under attack by Bowser, of course she’s not gonna’ have time for nonsense.

As for Mario? New crazy world compared to Brooklyn, of course he’s gonna’ look like a bit of a fool at first.

Re: Latest Pokémon Anime Trailer Gives A Closer Look At The Series' New Protagonists

SirCarbs

I’ll definitely check this out and I hope others will too.

Frankly, I’ll never understand the fans who hate the idea of Ash leaving. He became a repetitive character who both figuratively and physically never grew, and would regress and forget everything at the start of a new region. It was just
the same thing over and over…and over.

His time in the anime is well overstayed, and I personally would love to see the anime go the “Digimon” route, featuring new casts of characters every few years.

Re: Mega Man X Returns To The Fold In Brand New Minecraft DLC

SirCarbs

@SonOfDracula It’s only “horrendous flaw” is the tank controls, which aren’t that difficult to get used to and are frankly over exaggeration from most critics. Most people who discover & spend time with Legends say it’s quite ahead of its time and a gem to play to this day. Couldn’t agree more, can’t say I’ve found a game that comes close to the level of charm that Legends has to offer.

Re: UK Charts: Fire Emblem Engage Tumbles Down To Seventh Place

SirCarbs

@Arawn93 “Too anime” from my point of view is the idea that anime is drawing from nothing else other than…well…anime. Look back at older anime (especially the 90’s and below) and see they had more variety of styles & influences. Yes, they had trends & tropes too, yet Anime back then wasn’t afraid to have to go in either a “wacky” or “gritty” look, depending on the story. Sharper edges, thicker lines, variety of body types and bizarre looking characters that could be considered important (it was at least more frequent than today). Basically, there was more variety - more experimental.

Engage, like many other mainstream shows & games in Japan are adopting the “moe” aesthetic for everything. This wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t everywhere lately. Same faces, same body types, unnecessary “fan service” shots that feel highly forced as if to engage our attention spans and an art style that feels waay too polished and clean - overly saturated colours. To sum it up, it all feels highly inbred - it has the look & feel of a typical Isakei. That’s what I think of when I say it’s “too anime” - it’s just looks so inbred.

We have the same problem in the west too, as it feels like everything wants to be Adventure Time in North America, everything wants to be Sword Art Online in Japan.

Re: Feature: How Do Game Developers And Artists Feel About The Rise Of AI Art?

SirCarbs

At the end of the day for me, as an illustrator/writer…I just keep going.

For now I’m not resenting it, it’s more the general attitudes of those who believe artists will now be more “humbled” or “lower their pricing” now
That their “threatened” by AI. It’s petty.

I’m just going to keep going, keep making, keep expressing myself with the skills I learned on my life’s journey and not let it bother me. I can see AI being useful to help artists with compositions or colour theory, as long as they’re still putting their own imagination to work at the end of the day.
That’s what I want, from the mind of the person, not the machine.

Re: Feature: How Do Game Developers And Artists Feel About The Rise Of AI Art?

SirCarbs

@Arawn93 It’s no more “overpriced” than asking for any other field for their talents that required them YEARS of study and applied muscle memory. Try walking in the shoes of an artist by picking up a pencil or paintbrush and seeing it for yourself. Many artists I know have had to already slash their prices enough from the pandemic, all we’re trying to do is earn a living off what we love doing. You’d do the same.

Re: Feature: How Do Game Developers And Artists Feel About The Rise Of AI Art?

SirCarbs

@Davzilla There is no “gatekeeping”. Don’t even know where you’re getting that word from in this scenario. Anyone has the ability to become an artist if they’re willing to take they’re willing to take the time and apply themselves. It’s the same as any other skill. It’s all muscle and knowledge at the end of the day.

Or better yet as @RavenDuroi put it, the only real “gatekeeper” that people complain about in this scenario, is yourself.

Re: Improve Your Pokémon's Stats In Scarlet And Violet's New Picnic Function

SirCarbs

Can we just get a post game item that automatically maxes iv’s like the flip of a switch? People are tired of the needless grind just to have “battle worthy” Pokemon to take online. It doesn’t make you anymore skilled that you spend so much time breeding for the perfect pokemon, the real skill comes from the experience you gain in battles.

It’s like having to wait days just to pick your character in the stage select in Street fighter.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Worst Game That You Still Love For Some Reason?

SirCarbs

Megaman X8 for PS2.

I personally love it and consider it my favourite in the series aside from X1 & X4. I understand the hate, it’s loaded with instant death traps and has some really gimmicky stages, but I love a lot of stage designs and the story and twist at the end was such a breathe of fresh air.

Also it was so refreshing after the dumpster fires that were X6 & X7…

Re: Every Mega Man Game Ranked

SirCarbs

Wow..Megaman 2 not in the top spot like every other ranked list out there? I’m shocked! And a little happy. Love Megaman, most favourite game franchise of all time. But man is that game overrated. For me, Legends 2, MMX4, MMX, ZX Advent, Legends 1, MM8, MM11, MM4, Zero 3 & MMX8 are my top 10.

Re: We Might Get A Brand New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game In 2023

SirCarbs

Make it a 3D game similar to a play style of the Arkham games (Out of the Shadows doesn’t count…yuck). Give it a compelling story, unique abilities for each turtle and an open world of New York City complete with a parkour and stealth system.

Highly wishful thinking but I can dream. The brawlers are fun but TMNT can be more than that.

Re: Sonic Frontiers Will Apparently Take The Series' Narrative To New Heights

SirCarbs

@AndyMK84 I mean, part of what made SA2 so loved and memorable was its story and additions to the lore. Personally I’d love to see more “story” in Sonic games, because when I think when it’s done right, it makes the games all that more compelling. The sonic comics where always fun for their stories, and having a writer from the comics team certainly has me hopeful!

Re: Sonic Frontiers Will Apparently Take The Series' Narrative To New Heights

SirCarbs

@mariomaster96 Personally, I’d love it if they did more creative storytelling in platformers. I’ve always found stories in gaming to be a great way to get me more absorbed into the game, and gives me an even bigger reason to finish them.

The only Mario games that interest me are the ones that go beyond the “Bowser kidnaps Peach” storyline. As for Sonic, well, there’s a reason why many still consider SA2 to be one of their greatest. I truly believe the epic storytelling (even if was a bit cheesy) is what helped it stand the test of time.
