If it wasn’t for the battle mechanics, the difference in framerate wouldn’t bug me as much. But since battles DO rely on timing, I think it’s safe to say especially those familiar with the original game will consider it a downgrade.
@Chibi_Manny There are still PS4 games being released, more than 3 years since PS5 has been out. They’re not going to stop releasing games for Switch when the next system is launched.
@tanaka2687 I agree it could be better, but you said a lack of new content is what you want. If a new course and a new character isn’t content, what is? What exactly do you want to come to the game?
Wow. I was thinking you'd save a little money going this route, but I was wrong. Unless the extra stuff is super valuable to you, it's actually more expensive going with Loot Crate.
@Samurai_Goroh That's different. Wave Race was a realistic simulator. It added to the realism. Mario Kart is very cartoony and over the top-hardly realistic. At the very least, it's weird to have fairly photo realistic, real world things in Mario Kart.
@MetaRyan No one used that stick and button placement before because it's not comfortable. Sure, it looks ergonomic and symmetrical and you'd think that would be good, but it's just not comfortable. For games that utilize the 2 analog sticks (which means a lot of games), the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers are the best.
I've played video games since forever on all platforms. I can appreciate each type of controller for different reasons, but definitely for first person games when you're using the 2 analog sticks simultaneously, the PlayStation and Wii U button layouts just aren't comfortable. I realize I'm saying this very matter-of-factly instead of an opinion, but I really don't think anyone could argue it.
@Giygas_95 How old are you? Did you play Mario Kart 64 when it first came out? Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I think there's millions of other people like me who LOVED battle mode in Mario Kart 64. And in my opinion, that part of the game has basically steadily gone downhill. Block Fort was awesome. I remember playing it with friends for hours at a time back in the day. They sort of brought it back in the Wii version (I think), but it wasn't the same, just sort of similar.
@Yorumi Yes. But Nintendo is responsible for the manufacturing of the cards and the DLC. Plus, the game without the DLC is fairly lacking. There's no way Nintendo didn't have it planned. I'm not complaining about it. I'm going to buy the season pass. But while it takes time to make game cards, it takes even longer to create all that DLC. That's all I'm saying.
I think having it as day one DLC is just as bad as putting it on on the game card. The content was done and ready. They could have included it along with the rest of the courses and characters.
@JaxonH It's still basically tied to the console though. It's certainly better than the original Wii, where you'd have to send in your system to get your old DLC put on it. But what about signing into someone else's Wii U and being able to access my content there? I loved being able to do that on Xbox 360. Rock Band is a good example of that. I've got about 800 songs downloaded, but my friend bought about 30 songs that I don't have, so he can sign into his account on my Xbox, and then we can play mine and his songs. I realize Rock Band doesn't exist on Wii U, and maybe there isn't or won't be a game that has an extensive amount of DLC content, but still, it is pretty primitive. And it's crazy that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were doing it from the start, and Wii U can't even do it, even after the endless requests for more sophisticated online stuff.
@moomoo The problem isn't necessarily where the Virtual Console games are sold, but for how much. $5 for most NES games is too high. Especially when your purchase is locked to a device and not an account.
This is basically proof that it ISN'T about the games. Whether or not it should be, that's up for debate, but numbers don't lie. Nintendo's stance on weak Wii U sales has been that the games aren't there. Then why are PlayStation 4 and Xbox One selling as well as they are? Xbox One has Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3. PlayStation 4 has...Knack? Why have these consoles sold more in a matter of weeks than Wii U has in over a year?
I don't mean to sound all negative towards Nintendo, but their conservativeness is hurting them. It's obvious they can't rely on Mario to drive sales, and their lack of raw horsepower and online infrastructure doesn't help either. When Destiny, Infamous, Metal Gear Solid V, Final Fantasy XV, Titanfall (all games NOT appearing on Wii U) and whatever hit next year for the other guys, Smash Bros. and Mario Kart will be a tiny blip on the radar.
I say this as someone who waited in a store for about 16 hours to get a Wii U at the midnight launch. I also say it as someone who has yet to have to see a very compelling Wii U game that isn't either a port, a multiplatform game (that is usually the worst version available) or a remake. And nothing special seems to be coming out anytime soon either. I'm sure I'll buy Mario Kart and Smash Bros., but I highly doubt they'll offer anything other than a slight upgrade to Mario Kart 7.
Anyway, as I said, numbers don't lie, and unless Nintendo is dumb, they will act on this. If after this upcoming wave of big name games (Mario World, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros.) Wii U still isn't selling, Nintendo HAS to do something. Whether it's a price drop or...I don't even know...they have to do something.
I don't know how unique my position is, but if Rayman Legends would have came out for Wii U when it was supposed to, I would have bought it. But now I don't know if I'll ever get it. If I do, it'll probably be for a different system because games get permanent price drops faster on other systems, it seems.
