Those eager to pick up Super Smash Bros. for Wii U have no doubt been spending plenty of time scouring listings and some pre-order packages popping up at some online stores, yet now Amazon US has placed its sizeable and particularly valuable hat in the ring.
Amazon listing a pre-order does, in a sense, bring some legitimacy to proceedings, and the pricing also gives us an indication of what to expect when the game, GameCube Controller Adapter and rather neat GameCube controller, pictured above, come onto the market. Although the retail giant is using a placeholder 31st December release date, the following are the prices it's charging for the multiple Smash Bros. packages on Wii U.
- GameCube Controller Adapter — $19.99
- GameCube Controller - Super Smash Bros. Edition — $29.99
- Super Smash Bros. game — $59.96
- Super Smash Bros. Bundle (game, controller and adapter) — $99.99
The bundle does offer a $10 saving over each individual part, though $100 is plenty to put down on a single game, especially if you're also planning to buy the 3DS version first in October for around $39.99.
These are US prices, of course, with other countries and regions set to vary. At the time of writing there are no equivalent listings on the UK or German Amazon stores.

I think I'll buy a Pro controller. I've been meaning to get one
It begins...
Gamecube is love, Gamecube is life!
They are up in Amazon Canada... except that all prices are 60$. For some reasons. The tax for being Canadian... as per usual.
Game only for me. Adapter if someday Cube VC appears.
Already pre-ordered from Best Buy for $79.99 with Gamer's Club Unlocked, weeks ago
Even though i have a full lineup of controllers ready, i will go for the smash bros controller bundle
That thing just looks toooo good
Alternative: Get Smash Bros. Melee which requires no adapters for GameCube controllers.
Seriously though, this is a good deal.
I'll never understand why Nintendo abandoned the Gamecube controller design when creating the pro series. I get it was a hassle for multiplatform titles and ports but it is still my all time favorite controller to use and definitely serves smash bros the finest. Why not just redesign a Wii U pro to be more like the Wavebird?
I wonder if they'll release the regular GC controllers as well..
The only comparable listing I've seen for the UK is this but is doesn't mention the adapter.
http://www.shopto.net/video-games/wiiu/WIIUSU03-super-smash-bros-gamecube-controller
why would you spend the money for the gamecube controller and adapter unless you where a collector? I think it would be funner using the pro controller or gamepad
@hydeks Not for me having used the controller at Hyper Japan I must say it felt fantastic.
For pro level beat 'em up gamers having wired controllers is essential.
Being a useless button masher who likes to blame the stupid controller for why I'm rubbish, I'll stick with my comfy Pro Controllers.
@sinalefa Hasn't that already been announced or was that in a dream of mine?
I was thinking of getting this but if it turns out to be like... £50-60 in the UK, then I'll stick with the original controllers and buy the adapter however much it'll cost by itself.
All paid, just waiting.
I wish it was that price in Canada
@ThomasBW84 and NLifers
Off topic but LE Hyrule Warriors with the scarf has been available directly on Amazon France for preorder since last week for 59.90€.

On topic: I may get 1 or 2 controllers and the adaptor only as I'm going digital with the SSB4.
This means nothing untill the UK price comes out...
Gimme!
Getting bundle! It's 'GO HARD or GO HOME!' Of course not everyone will want to get the bundle and that's cool too. Just want to play the game NOW!!!!!! T_T
There is no such thing as "to much money spent" in Smash Bros. I'm buying all the amiibo figures and 4 Smash controllers
@Lebon14
As a fellow Canadian I feel you're pain!
The 'Bundle'!
Loving the bundle, the mix of gamecube nostalgia and habit of play smash with such controllers make it look like a must OoO
Still there is no controller for the 3DS version, plenty of time for get used to no-cube controls. Depending the prices in Italy I'll see if let the pure nostalgia alone have the upperhand on my wallet or not XP
Just the game for me, I like to evolve with the times. Besides I can save the money that can use for the GC controller and adapter to help pay for the Amiibos
"I have a bad feeling in the pit of me wallet."
I already pre-ordered the game at Smash Fest for the special coin.
Do you think the sweet controller will be available for purchase separately? I guess I could always try ebay...
I think I'll just use a pro controller or more likely the gamepad. I'm not too big on the adapter at this point but if gcn games start hitting vc I'll pick one up. I already have a couple controllers still laying around.
I already have 5 gamecube controllers so... I'll pass. For the adapter, I'll get when gamecube games come to the VC.
My decision for getting the adapter is based on whether it's compatible with Wii mode. I've got a number of games (both Wii retail and Wii VC) that can't be played because I don't have a Classic Controller to play them on my Wii U, I have a Wavebird though.
I reserved this a while ago at gamestop.
@8BitSamurai you forgot the part where you would buy a GameCube.
This was there a while ago i'm surprised, now is when it's mentioned
I'm not sure yet what I'll get. I'm inclined to just get the game and adapter, since i have two GCN controllers right here, and both in great condition. But if the controller in the bundle offers some kind of unique design, I might bite for the bundle...
WOW, actually $20 says allot about the UK price, I would SO pay £15 for this adapter!! I have plenty of GC controllers!
@Hero-of-WiiU
Cheaper than a Wii U, I'm pretty sure.
Pass on the adapter, pass on the controller, pass on the game for me.
seriously hope we get this in uk as well
Seriously need some more details on this adapter. Will it be compatible with other games? Does it work in Wii Mode? Can the GC pads function as Classic Controllers?
I'll just buy the game first, until Nintendo actually make good use of the GameCube adapter other than Super Smash Bros. 4, I'm not buying it anytime soon. I'm good at Super Smash Bros. with any controller at the moment. I'll probably pick up the new GameCube controller too just to replay Melee again on my GameCube.
Now having that sexy song in my head; from the announcement.
I'll buy the bundle 'to have it', not going to use it much.
@Kaze_Memaryu There is a unique design, the image for this article (and in the adapter trailer) is the one in the bundle.
@S3OL
Yes. A dream a lot of us have
I smell a Nintendo Direct announcement coming...
@sinalefa I have a dream. A dream where all Gamecube games got HD treatment. Well the important ones anyway.
@hydeks I'm personally more excited for the brand new gamecube controllers because mine are worn down/a 3rd party controller. I've gone to two Smash Bros. tournaments this year and planning to hit a third one at the end of the month, so having fresh controllers with Nintendo's build quality will save me quite a bit of money on the few new ones still floating around out there.
Being able to use it with Smash on Wii U is a bonus, of course.
@Lebon14 Not even. That's not factoring in our on average higher tax rate (which is applied after the shipping costs too! I suggest applying for the student designation, at least it comes with free shipping).
That's a pretty pricey bundle. Together it's like 180ish dollars Canadian.
Darn. This makes it tougher for me. I'm usually a physical gamer guy, but I want Smash bros to be on my systems 24/7.
Going to pick up this bundle for sure, been needing another brand new Gamecube controller.
Very tempting....definitely want to play using the GC controller. Never was able to get used to the classic controller and while the pro controller is nice...im just too used to the feel of the GCN controller
$79.99 at Best Buy with Gamer's Club Unlocked. Hear hear...
imo gamecube controller looks like a hot mess
I just unpacked my gamecube with 2 wavebirds and 2 corded controllers from storage. Winning!
Man, I've had the $100 bundle reserved at Gamestop for nearly 2 months now.
This looks tempting...
I already have a GameCube controller hanging around so just the game and the adaptor for me.
Hmm this offer is VERY tempting, but $100 for one game is a lot of money! Not to mention I would like to get the 3ds version as well. Hmmm, we shall see!
according to Google $99 in British pounds is £58.97 ...not a bad price I would pay that! but it'll probably cost more in Europe. Is this bundle boxed by Nintendo? or does Amazon US just sell it with the game? As far as I know Nintendo hasn't announced this bundle.
I'm all in. It should be an interesting Christmas for Nintendo.
I would get this instead of the pro controller if more games were compatible with it.
I've pre-ordered games from Amazon before, and I am an Amazon Prime member ... but unfortunately, everytime my game pre-orders arrive 2-3 days after the release date (this isn't so much an issue but I have to have smash the day it comes out). So, yes MAB, I'm going D4L for this title, and I'll buy the adapter controller combo separately.
methinks the UK price will be closer to £100 than £50...
Here's a question, will this adapter work for people using an external hard drive with a Y splitter that takes up both USB ports?
Have min pre ordered at gamestop
The bundle sounds well worth it. I'm sure the game will be playable with the Wii U Pro Controller, but nothing beats a Gamecube controller for Smash Bros.
@Assassinated There are four USB ports on the Wii U. Two in front and two on the back.
Oh... For a minute there I thought the $100 bundle was JUST for the controller and adapter... Now my keyboard is ruined.
Not buying into the whole GC Controller thing right now honestly. The Pro Controller seems like it would work well enough to justify not getting a GC controller and adding 40 dollars onto the price tag of the game. With 2 Pro Controllers and 2 Classic Controller Pros, I'm sure my friends will be more than satisfied playing Smash.
Still glad the GC Controller is an option though.
Nintendo strategy release console with a controller you don't want so you can later sell to people the controller they want... sad thing is that it works
@sinalefa Haha, I see.
What really sucks about this adapter is that it doesn't come with GameCube backwards compatibility. The Wii was just a slightly upgraded GameCube. If the Wii U is similar enough to offer Wii Backwards compatibility it should also be able to do GameCube. Its sucks that this adapter will only be used for 1 Wii U game and not the many great GameCube games that are out there. This is like rubbing salt into a wound. All the pieces are pretty much there to enable backwards compatibility but Nintendo is too stubborn or lazy to do it as usual.
@Dauntless
Well, the Wii is technically still capable of playing Gamecube games, its basically just missing the ports. So the Wii U should be just as capable. The problem would be the execution, since the Wii U has an entirely separate mode for backwards-compatibility.
I'm not too bothered about the lack of actual GC compatibility since at least it can be used for future games, but I am a bit miffed that they just now start making new controllers, but apparently couldn't be arsed to do it for the console that actually had it, ports and all.
@Zombie_Barioth The Wii U disc drive won't accept GCN discs so that won't be happening ever.
I'll click the pre-order button in less than one second when the deal comes to EU.
the $100 bundle come with the game! now will the gamecube pad work with any other games? pikmin 3 with some classic controls?
I'll be preordering the full bundle with the controller and the adapter. Perfect for serious competitive players. I'm only semi-competitive, but it will come in handy when I throw tournaments.
@Achoo Woah. That's pretty cool.
So is it compatible with the Wavebird controller?
Was never planning to play the new smash on less it was gamecube controller playable. Glad to know i have less money for presents now.
@Octane Aren't these basically "regular GC controllers" more or less? I mean, other than the SSB logo in the middle.
@RobbySuave Yes, they are. But I'm not a big fan of SSB, so I'd prefer one with the GameCube logo on it. It's not a big deal, but just out of curiosity. Even if I want to go that far, I can always swap the case with my old controller.
