Re: Nintendo President Apologises For Joy-Con Drift, Can't Comment Further Due To Ongoing Lawsuit

Riff-the-Don

I’ve not had issues with any of my controllers for previous systems - those that had Goldeneye or Mario Party 2 know about the amount of hours & punishment joysticks got through usage! And no issues with DS/3DS either.

Mine had a problem since launch but I never realised during BOTW (I thought it was inertia movement) until I played Overcooked when my character was moving on its own. I even contacted Team 17 thinking it was an issue with the game.

My switch & those of my kids have had drift issues & even replacement/repaired joycons had problems after a short time. I understand about keeping the joycons clean & dust free etc & it’s carried in a hard case when I’m out. I have contact cleaner but shouldn’t have to spray them every so often to keep them in a usable condition.

Unfortunately I doubt Nintendo will refund those customers that have had to pay for joycon repairs, but hope the acknowledgement will lead to better manufacturing/testing practices & repairs to these in the future

Re: Poll: Nintendo Switch Lite Is Out Today, Are You Getting One?

  • Screen too small
  • No way to play certain games effectively without extra expense
  • Prefer the convenience of home/mobile play
  • Drift issues a worry (even with cleaning spray)

Mostly play mine handheld but this would feel like a downgrade. I’ll hold out for a Pro version or maybe switch to the current Red Box version for better battery life.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 13th)

Riff-the-Don

Just been to Hyper Japan (UK) so I’ve had a taste of all the latest games out soon 🥳

Mario/Sonic Olympics has a different control scheme from the others but very playable.

Link’s Awakening is everything you may remember (for those of a certain age!) but brought up to date with new features, the art style is so good.

Sword n Shield is just as good as always - still not sold on Dynamaxing but looking forward to the raid battles.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is very good, lots of action and the characters look how they should too...

Mario Maker 2 was loved by the family, I’m not as keen on it but the new gameplay ideas keep it fresh.

Luigi Mansion 3 ... just buy it, it is amazing!

Didn’t get to try Cadence of Hyrule, looks good but I wasn’t sold on Crypt .. will retry the demo and consider from there.

Same demo for Daemon X as released on eshop before but looked brighter. Son completed the demo, lost his mech suit right at the end but took down the boss 👌🏾

In summary - Nintendo have a great Q3 lineup and with the Switch lite for the younger generation (or older handheld gamers), the future is Ninten Do.

Re: Hands On: Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild VR Made Us Want To Puke

@AlohaPizzaJack - fan as in the experience Nintendo wanted us to have with Zelda VR or the VR kit as a whole. There’s not much ‘free’ content that I can think of they’ve given that hasn’t been good, or am I wrong? Yes it’s ‘free’ but I paid for Switch, Zelda & Labo kit, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to try it. I could have lived without the freeness in this instance.

I’m still sticking with my Switch don’t worry about that. I’ll try it again seated with motion controls off & see if I get a better reaction.

I’m all for innovation no matter if it’s paid or free, I just don’t want to feel worse after the experience.

I’ve been Team Nintendo since the SNES and Gameboy so I’ll try anything they have to offer. But there was a thing back then known as the Nintendo Seal of Quality - the games may not always have been the best looking but the gameplay could rarely be faulted.

I had no problems with the 3DS, I’ve got all the Labo sets & was so excited for VR ... the kits are great, gameplay is there but we knew the graphics were never going to match even mid range VR.

Having tried out Oculus and Vive without any motion sickness, I could never understand what people meant by this ... I lasted about 20 seconds in Zelda VR playing standing up and I felt so giddy it was unreal!

I’ll try it with the motion turned off for me & my kids to see if it’s any different (and Oddessy also needs a test run), but Nintendo lost a die hard fan today with that experience.

Re: Review: Tetris 99 - A Revolutionary Take On A Puzzle Classic

Riff-the-Don

@OorWullie very well done, I’m placing in the top 20 regularly and had quite a few 2/3 placements but the gold still eludes me.

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned yet that the Switch camera/video function works for this too. Good way to show why you got knocked out 98th as targeted by 8 people!!

Re: Your Joy-Con Can Now Have a D-Pad if You’re Brave Enough

Riff-the-Don

Kind of a side-step to the main topic but .. has anyone had a problem with the right joystick? I notice it times (normally Zelda) that after moving Link still moves on his own.

I've recalibrated it & it appears sluggish when moving from bottom to centre, resetting the whole Joy Con helps but hasn't fixed it fully.

Re: Hyperkin Reveals HDMI SNES Clone, The Supa RetroN HD

Riff-the-Don

To those that are paying $80 for SNES mini to get StarFox 2, Nintendo have stated before that the quality of their games are such that they still hold their value 😂

I just wish I had pre-ordered when I had the chance, still have my SNES as my 1st home console but I want it. This Hyperkin sounds good on paper but no substitute for the real thing.

@ThomasBW84: I can't find Disgaea 5 demo on the UK eshop - you sure it's there?

To all: Have found it on the Japanese eshop & all the menus/character comments are in English (with Japanese voices) so if you want to try it out now you know where to go 👍🏾

Re: Poll: A Month of Nintendo Switch - Do You Think It's Heading for Success?

Riff-the-Don

Since I got mine, my beloved 3DS has now become my side-chick!

In all seriousness I love the Switch, I'm out at work most of the time so have only played Snipperclips demo once on the tv. If I had BOTW on Wii U, I don't think it would get played as much as I currently have. For me it's a handheld with the option of playing at home (but can't wait for a week off to explore on the big screen).

I think it's better than the Wii, if it sells half as well I'd be happy - but if the games flow steadily & more third parties get involved then I think it could be a king slayer.
