The full details were a little later than normal in arriving, but we now have the full picture of this week's Nintendo Download Update in Europe. A high-profile 3DS retail title leads the way, while the Switch has some intriguing releases and a major demo. The Wii U and 3DS also have a few fresh offerings along with plenty of discounts, so let's get to the details.
Nintendo Switch eShop
Thumper (Drool LLC, €19.99 / £15.99) - Previously released on PSN and held up as a strong demonstration of VR gaming, this one now arrives on Switch for hybrid gaming on the TV or on the go. Psychedelic visuals, a pumping soundtrack and a sharp level of difficulty make this an enticing offering; we loved this in our Thumper review.
Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors (HAMSTER, €6.99 / £6.29) - Released in 1995 by Sunsoft, the game sees you take on the mantel of one of eight warriors thrown into a world which we are told "was destroyed by the destructors of the universe". So yeah, it's basically a fighting game set in outer space! Not necessarily considered one of the better games of its era, this ACA game will nonetheless have the usual add-ons and customisation options.
Nintendo Switch Retail Demo
Disgaea 5 Complete (NIS America, free) - This long awaited release of the enormous and quirky strategy RPG includes all of the DLC from the original release. It's willingly written and designed for older players, is utterly bonkers yet at the same time offers impressive depth in gameplay. We're working on a review and will share that before the game is released, and until then there's this free demo to try out. Full game arrives on 26th May.
3DS Retail Download
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (Nintendo, €44.99 / £39.99) - The third and final major release for this IP on the 3DS (assuming you count the separate Fates parts as one game), this offers something a little different from the others. A remaster / reimagining of Fire Emblem Gaiden, it incorporates third-person dungeon crawling and some first-person sections, in addition to the usual top-down strategic RPG action. We go into the detail and nitty gritty of this game in our Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia review. Available from 19th May, free Celica's Army - Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia HOME Theme on eShop purchase up to 16th June.
3DS Retail DLC
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Season Pass (Nintendo, €44.99 / £39.99, twenty-two pieces of content) - The Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Season Pass includes all five DLC packs as they release. By purchasing the Season Pass, fans who want to receive all DLC will save more than 30 percent compared to purchasing all 22 pieces of content individually.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia AOC: Fledgling Warriors Pack (Nintendo, €7.99 / £7.19)
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia AOC: Undaunted Heroes Pack (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99)
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia AOC: Lost Altars Pack (Nintendo, €14.99 / £13.49)
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia AOC: Rise of the Deliverance Pack (Nintendo, €12.99 / £11.69)
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia AOC: Cipher Companions Pack (Nintendo, €4.99 / £4.49)
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia AOC: The Astral Temple (Nintendo, €3.99 / £3.59)
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia AOC: Wretches and Riches (Nintendo, €2.99 / £2.69)
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia AOC: Band of Bandages (Nintendo, €2.99 / £2.69)
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia AOC: Mila's Bounty (Nintendo, free)

Wii U eShop
PINBALL (RCMADIAX, €1.49 / £1.39) - This seems like a rather basic iteration on the classic game concept, albeit with a twist as you try to hit hotspots to collect points while avoiding a 'danger zone'.
Wii U Virtual Console
Super Star Soldier (Konami, €5.99 / £5.39) - A vertical scrolling shooter from the TurboGrafx-16 era; this one is rather good but can be cruel, offering no mid-stage checkpoints should you die. We nevertheless quite enjoyed this way back in 2007 in our Wii Virtual Console review.

At this point I would just filter out all discounts from CIRCLE Entertainment (and a couple of other usual suspects). They aren't genuine discounts and it's just noise.
Oh and My Nintendo updated recently with discounts for picross games, but that's been completely missed by this site. It's quicker to check directly these days.
Do we have a release date for Terraria on the Switch ?
The 3ds discount is tempting but...
Obviosuly getting Disgaea demo whilst Fire Emblem will be a physical.
Torn about Super Star Soldier; love the game but have it on PS3/PS Vita. Would love it on the Switch though.
That's some pricey DLC!
@riChchestM
Thanks for the heads up, I don't have Picross E4 yet and was actually waiting for a discount.
I hope you do a review of Pinball. Another poor week overall though. Might buy Terarria at that price. May still pick up Resident Evil Revelations from last week even though I already own it physically. The online discount price is that good(€6).
I don't see the Disgaea demo on the eShop.
@neufel I would just wait for it on the Switch. As awesome as the game is, the 3DS version isn't particularly good.
@Moon Thanks for the tip !
Yay, more Turbografx! Hopefully we'll start catching up with the recent US VC releases.
I took advantage of a My Nintendo discount to grab Picross e3 for less than £3, I'll probably get e4 as well. Got that Pikmin 3DS Theme as well using Gold Coins, better than them virtually rotting away.
Disgaea 5 Complete (NIS America, free) ??? Huh? Disgaea 5 is free? Can't be right.
edit:oh, free DEMO. Duh, lol.
Im intrigued to try disgaea as heard the noise but never played one.
@riChchestM In addition to the discounts you mentioned, they added a couple more Pikmin rewards (the movies in either HD or 3D and a 3DS theme) and a FE:SOV wallpaper (this one for platinum points).
@ThomasBW84 Just to point out, I see Terarria is discounted on the Wii U eShop too. It's €9.99 as well. I don't know if others are missing but it's the 1 quality game that immediately jumped out when I had a look. I know it's not your fault, I think Nintendo left it out of their PR.
Why doesn't the European update mention Darksiders? Amazon UK still has May 23 as date of release, I hope there won't be another delay
@gortsi If I remember rightly, it was reported the eShop version would be delayed in the UK. I cancelled my preorder as it felt like it was never coming...
Unless the review later tells me it's broken on Switch then I'll be picking up Thumper
@SLIGEACH_EIRE So it is, I somehow missed that line in the email. I've added it now, anyway.
@readyletsgo demo.
Are NoE releasing all the FE DLC at once now? Doesn't matter, I'll wait for it to go on sake anyway. The current prices are disgusting.
@gortsi Because I think NoE include mid-week releases in the following update; i.e. next week.
@alasdair91 I do think it's coming this time though, they would have changed the date otherwise. @RainbowGazelle fair enough, I didn't know that.
Already downloading Thumper-another 9/10 Switch game. Excellent.
I'll get the Disgaea 5 demo as well though that doesn't seem to be up yet.
@ThomasBW84: I can't find Disgaea 5 demo on the UK eshop - you sure it's there?
To all: Have found it on the Japanese eshop & all the menus/character comments are in English (with Japanese voices) so if you want to try it out now you know where to go 👍🏾
Waiting for the Disgaea demo to see if I want to pick it up. I loved Final Fantasy Tactics Advance so I should lobe Disgaea but I am not sold from the trailers alone. Hopefully thr demo knocks some sense into me.
@Riff-the-Don For some reason the demo goes live later today, at 9pm UK I believe.
Still waiting for Samsho II and V SP
as well as KOF 2000 and Last Blade 2...
Thats a lot of pre-release DLC. Glad Nintendo is getting with the times.
Why do Wii U versions of TG-16 games have to be so BIG ! If there's ever a TG-16 VC on Switch, games that were originally just 512KB better not be 700+MB like Super Star Soldier, or we won't be able to carry around a lot of those .
NOW we're getting to the good stuff~ x3
@ThomasBW84 Thanks, I was wondering where it was. Twenty minutes left to wait.
@Moon The demo is in the "coming soon" section, not new releases.
Edit: I did find it on the US store, not checked the UK one yet.
No sign of Disgaea on the Aussie store yet. 😐
Edit: Its up, on the coming soon page. 🙃
No Demo on the UK Eshop yet! Oh well, back to Thumper!
Probably not until Friday. Eventhough it's just a demo, big retail releases in Europe are always on Fridays, with few exceptions on Tuesday (world wide releases).
What about TestPunch?
Have already downloaded Thumper and it is great.
I won't bother download the Disgaea demo as I have pre-ordered the game and know I am gonna love it.
How come you guys never made a forma.8 review?
Is it worth buying?
I downloaded Forma.8
Nice game so far.
@vicinity,
A shame that there is no review. This site is really lacking in reviews nowadays, while they put to much focus on nonsense (like emulators). What happened?!
Anyway: This game has a average of 79%, XboxOne version. There are also 2 very positive Wii u reviews on Metacritic, If I am correct. So far everything works smooth. Its more of a slow ambient experience, if that gives you any idea. Supposedly there are some really strong puzzles in it. I have yet to encounter those, only played a hour so far.
