We're getting Pokémon-themed Mega Bloks later this year, and we don't know about you but that makes us very happy here at Nintendo Life.
Announced at the 2017 New York Toy Fair, these kits have recently been shown off at Mattel's Toy Fair event, where Kotaku got the chance to have a close-up look.
The sets announced so far are based on Generation One, which shouldn't come as much of a shock - it's a logical place to start, after all. The sets are roughly divided into basic Pokémon (which come in a Pokéball), battle sets, middle evolution sets and large, final evolution models. Check out that Charizard.
What do you think of these models? Will you be making a purchase when they arrive in the fall this year? Let us know by posting a comment.

Get them early, could be toy of the year!
I got the old Pokémon mega bloks where you made a picture of pinachu or charities, I still have them 😝
There have been Pokemon Mega Blocks sets before now (I have one) but they just used standard blocks in an attempt to resemble the Pokemon, rather than having special parts like these do, so they didn't look as good.

Their Assassin's Creed sets were pretty good too. That didn't stop me buying singular parts to build a Lego Ezio though. White hoods are hard to find.
I really like that Gyarados one. I might have to pick it up!
Couple of these will look nice on the display shelf.
Where is the emoji for "gag"?
And where are my fellow Lego purists? These toys look disgusting and it saddens me any time I see Nintendo stoop themselves to working with this hack of a block-building company.
(This is mostly hyperbole, but I really do believe that Lego is a much higher quality than Mega Bloks.)
The Eevee's kind of terrifying...
They don't look too bad but I would prefer Lego more than mega blocks.
@FiveDigitLP Yeah it's a shame it's not Lego; though I guess it's better to have Mega Bloks than nothing.
@FiveDigitLP The idea of Nintendo "stooping" to work with LEGO imitators is kind of amusing when you consider that they once manufactured their own rip-offs.
@FiveDigitLP
Yeah I bought a Halo Mega
ExcrementBloks set once, it falls to pieces if you look at it. If Nintendo want the best, they should work with the best. It astounds me that they didn't seize on the Iron Knuckle Encounter set that was put up on the Lego Ideas site, they didn't need to do anything other than consent.@FiveDigitLP Just to point out... this would be The Pokemon Company's doing, not Nintendo's... TPC may be part owned by Nintendo, but they operate independently the majority of the time.
Eew, Mega Blocks. Should've just given it to LEGO instead. They use very high quality plastic, and their designers actually know what they're doing.
They look fat
Amazing. Totally buying these for my kids. They wanted to go get them right now, had to explain they'll be here before Christmas.
Good to see Nintendo showing off something they can sell during the holiday season. Was looking pretty bleak there with no real announcements for months.
Cue people getting triggered at being reminded of the existence of Kanto, just like they always are.
They look neat, I may potentially even try to get one, but I really wish we could just have a LEGO Pokemon theme
@FiveDigitLP Mega Bloks has come a long way, especially in the quality control department.
Mega Bloks 🤢
My son has been building his own Pokemon with Legos for a while. Him and I are gonna need some of these
Do you think they'll be doing Mega Bloks of Mega Pokémon? 😄
Nowadays it's actually called Mega Construx.
My wallet is not okay with this.
Nintendo is the Apple of video games, and Lego is the Apple of toys. Why was this not a perfect match? I should be grateful for the reprieve my wallet receives, I guess, because I would have bought every Lego Pokemon product sight unseen.
Well it's not Lego, but Mega bloks/constux have kinda been their own thing since Halo, and these sets look way better than then the last two construction block crossovers. So I'm happy
@FiveDigitLP I would join you, and at one point I'd agree with you, but ever since mega blox improved their Halo sets, I occasionally buy them if it's a vehicle or character I want, plus Mattel does TMNT characters Lego didn't. Still the amount of Lego stuff I own out classes the MB sets
While i'm not a fan of customer pieces in a "lego-like" build, I must admit that I LOVE that Charizard & the Abra. A bit weird... but as huge pokémon fan I don't owe any Pokéball toys... might have to pick some up.
@0upshroom7 I don't get much time for building Lego nowadays, I spend a considerable amount of my free time in Minecraft or Pokémon Go. However, I collect the Lego minifigures when they're out... halfway through the new Batman set.
Just do an Pokemon Amiibo range Nintendo.
@BaffleBlend Actually it seems people are instead triggered because of the partnership being with Mega Bloks instead of Lego.
LEGO would have made a much better job
@DanteSolablood I've noticed your icon, and funny enough there were mega bloks Gundam, but they had a limited release and used the joints that were known to brake, really cool bad quality
@0upshroom7 Thanks, there are some pretty good Lego Ideas Gundams & the Exo-Warriors line from a few years ago was quite heavily Gundam inspired tpp... right down to the Lego Spiky blue hair.
BTW, Lego did do TMNT sets themselves. Not sure how but I picked up two Michaelangelo sets.
Is this NA only? You mentioned "fall", so I presume it is.
Mega Blocks are junk. I will not purchase them for my sons. Every single set we ever purchased that were not Lego brand were of poor quality.
I'm too naive hoping for being it released in EU? It looks really cool
@XCWarrior Don't be that parent that gets their kids Mega Bloks instead of real Legos.
@DanteSolablood I was aware Lego did TMNT stuff, I kinda worded that wrong, but MB did Snake Karai and the space turtles crew
These look kind of messed up compared to the Nanoblock Pokemon, but those don't come with playsets so I guess it's a tie.
Gotta Build 'Em All!
That Gyarados is mildly tempting, at least....
Why not Lego? Why Megabloks?
Hmm. Surprised that Lego didn't try to snap this up. Then again Megabloks makes the Mario sets too so perhaps contract restrictions?
Awesome, I wish it was Lego though lets be real
@DoomTurtle MegaBlocks are just Legos repackaged and priced cheaper, much like most cereal brands.
@shaneoh The reason why the Lego Ideas set didn't go through was not because of Nintendo but because of Lego's policy or not making new molds for Ideas sets.
It still baffles me why Nintendo works with the brick manufacturer nobody likes instead of Lego. They made an exlclusive game with Lego that had Mario power-ups and Satoru Iwata. Why won't Nintendo do something with Lego? Are they really that out of touch with western audiences?
@Gluff
You're thinking of the first LoZ set suggested:
http://cuusoo.wikia.com/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda
That was declined because it had too many new elements. The Iron Knuckle encounter wasn't given such a reason, it's likely it was turned down because Nintendo had a deal going with K'nex.
@Grandpa_Pixel
Me too, Gyrados is my favorite Pokemon of all time.
My fantasy of Lego Nintendo continues to delay more and more
No Lego, no buy. Mega Blox are bottom tier as far as Lego knockoffs go.
Why is it Mega Blocks??? ;(
The Gyarados though! Wow!
