Re: Zombie Horror Returns To Japanese Arcades With House Of The Dead: Scarlet Dawn

Ricube

I actually love arcade shooters! That is why I also really liked the Wii pointer and bought a Dreamcast pistol at the time... When I was 15, I worked on a fair with my parents exposing. A stand next to ours had some arcade machines and among them a HOTD 2 arcade, you could just play without paying... I spent a lot of time there, especially when there were no people. Sometimes I played with others and sometimes I was alone playing with both guns for player 1 and 2. That is actually a great memory
I would also really like to play a new HOTD game, but I'm not sure the switch is suited for that, maybe with motion controls in handheld mode and a Joycon-Gun when playing on TV.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild's Champions' Ballad DLC Marks The Conclusion Of The Game

Ricube

My guess is that they're going to do the Majora's Mask. Maybe using most of the BOTW assets and the game engine to create a game with a similar style but in a different location and some twists. Most people would like to have the dungeons back. I really loved how they built Hyrule Castle, and I would love to explore more places like that, with internals that you can access from different sides and environmental puzzles, that can be solved on different ways. And larger dungeons, caves, buildings or whatever. And i hope they ditch the divine beasts style of dungeons and make less "easy" shrines. I really think the potential of such a game engine is at the beginning.

Re: Review: Yooka-Laylee (Switch eShop)

Ricube

I actually like the game. Now I'm at the fourth level and still have lots to collect. It is what the developers promised: a retro style 3D platforming game. I also think 8/10 is too high, a 7 should be enough, because it has some technical flaws in animations (like running to a wall stops character animation) and frame rate hiccups, that are probably related to loading different parts on the map. I also didn't noticed input lag and I don't see such a bad level design. the automatic camera is awful, but in manual mode it's much better. I'm really having fun with this game, but maybe, as a backer, I'm also a little biased.

Re: DLC Review: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - The Champions' Ballad + Expansion Pass

Ricube

I finished the DLC in two days during the weekend. I was a little disappointed because I expected something different than the main game, but i still feel the love for this exceptional game! My mother is 70 and some months ago I gave her my WiiU with Zelda ('cause i got a Switch) and at the beginning she was scared because of the difficulty of this game, and she played all Zelda games till now. The magic for me is that, after some training and getting more experienced, she now calls me to tell that she unlocked the last tower, or that she cleared a difficult shrine. This is the game of the year, because it doesn't force you to anything, it just gives you freedom to play as you like and build your own learning curve. Thanks to Nintendo for making such a great art piece, an experience that only becomes wider because of the DLC content. That's why i would never complain.

Re: Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Switch)

Ricube

Great, I'm really glad about Bethesda supporting the switch with good ports. This is the only game I've pre-ordered in my life, waiting for it to arrive tomorrow morning. It's also the first time I'll play Skyrim, so for me it is actually a "new" game!
Now I'm on the fence for L.A. Noire... let's see how much time this game is going to take from my busy life . I also have to finische Mario+Rabbids, get all moons in Odyssey, progress in Wulverblade... Well, holydays aren't coming soon enough...

Re: Nintendo Switch v4.0.0 Update Brought Surprise GameCube Controller Adapter Support

Ricube

@TheLZdragon Ok, I know the problem are the missing: ZL button, left and right control stick buttons, the "-" and the Home button (and the capture button, but that one doesn't count for gaming), no Gyro. So it would be nice to make a list of games that doesn't use these buttons. For example today I played Snake Pass with the GC controller, no problem at all! Mario Kart is also totally playable, Zelda isn't. I guess all neo geo game are good, and so on...

Re: Soapbox: Breath Of The Wild Is Amazing, But Is It The Game That Zelda Enthusiasts Expected?

Ricube

Well, this article has some good points. I also missed the final bosses and the dungeons, and I would have loved more "inside" inside environments, like spoiler Hyrule Castle that gives you a great sense of exploration and hidden secrets. Also the more enemies, less repetitive could have been nice. Still, I don't agree about BOTW not being a "true" Zelda game, just because it takes so much from it's own history in therms of gameplay. Also the puzzles are astonishing to me as they are built as environmental puzzles that can be solved in different ways. For this I think that dungeons could have been like, for example, the inside of the vulcano with different entrance points and stronger weapons as reward.

Re: Review: Unbox: Newbie's Adventure (Switch)

Ricube

Well, this seems to be pretty frequent in recent times with this kind of 3D platformers (and not only). I could be interested if the developer patch the technical problems that seem to be the biggest flaws in this game. So, they could correct the issues and have a good game from this.

Re: Wulverblade Cuts Its Way To The Switch eShop Next Week

Ricube

This looked really interesting and the interview that has a link in the article is promising. I remember spending lots of time with a friend playing Golden Axe, decades ago... The eshop sure has some average or even bad games, but the majority are really high quality indie games, so I don't see why people complains. Well, that's something wonderful about the internet: anyone can just throw it's opinions on anything.

Re: Projection: First Light Will Bring Shadow Puppetry to the Nintendo Switch

Ricube

The art style may be a bit over-used but it's charming and the puzzles look similar, like casting linear shadows and using them as platforms... Still, all the premises are there. The big problem now is that there are lots of really good puzzle platformers so they really need to make something very good. My wishlist on switch is already super long!

Re: Digital Foundry Explores the Framerate and a Resolution Boost in Super Mario Odyssey

Ricube

No! I don't want to see any video of SMO! I was actually tempted by this... I don't really know why, but discussing about technical stuff in videogames can actually be pretty addicting. There was a time when we discussed about 8-16-32-64 bits. Know people are so aware (or think they are) about technical data that they become obsessed by even small details. And I can totally understand this attraction! But in the end I know that graphics, if they work right (no big glitches and a balanced presentation), are just important in the first 15 minutes, if a game is is really good, and this totally will be, then it draws you in and you don't even think about resolution and framerate. And Mario is this. I remember playing Super Mario Land on the game boy (I'm even replaying that one on the VC) and being totally drawn in that incredible world. I learned years later that those enemies are turtles and not ants . Anyways, I just read this and came to the comments, 'cause I don't want to spoil this game to me.

Re: Nintendo is Now 128 Years Old

Ricube

It's nice to see here so many stories of people that grew up with Nintendo games, in all the different ages. I stille remember the day my parents brought my sister and me to a store and gave us one game boy each, two tetris cartridges and a cable to play together. When i was ill and didn't go to school an older guy in the neighborhood gave me his NES, I remember being ill as a highlight in my childhood! The the SNES for my birthday with Super Mario World and... Street Fighter 2! Friends came to my house just to play SF2. From then I always got all Nintendo consoles and have lots of great memories and emotions. Thank you Nintendo and Happy Birthday!

Re: Talking Point: The Metroid Comeback is Wonderful, and Important for Nintendo's Line-Up

Ricube

For me Metroid Prime 4 is going to be a Switch system seller. I liked the Prime games much more then the 2D game, but will still get Samus Return. The main problem with Federation Force is that it wasn't a Samus Game, because Metroid IS Samus. I still know people that think Metroid is her name... Like people that doesn't know that Zelda is not the blonde guy with a green tunic.
Now I may be going OT, but we still don't know what Retro Studios are working on in the last four years, o so, right? That should also be very exciting once they spill the beans!

Re: Feature: Flicking Through The Debut Issue Of Switch Player

Ricube

@AlexSora89 Sorry for "switching" language... .

Re: Talking Point: NVIDIA is the Latest to Pitch Cloud Gaming - Could It Be Key to Nintendo's Future Hardware?

Ricube

I did actually made a point about this months ago in the forum:

https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-switch/nvidia_tech_will_switch_be_compatible_with_geforcenow

Still I guess you made a point with too bad infrastructures in some countries, like the one I live in. Also the cost is still too high, even if I like Nvidia's approach with "credits", even if they are way too expensive at the moment. Still, those services are probably the future...

Re: Yooka-Laylee's Wii U Cancellation is Only Due to Technical Challenges, Not the System's Woes

Ricube

@PlywoodStick you posted this link I also posted in the first news of the cancellation, today. But in the meantime... They changed it! This morning in the same page it was written that you could choose another system, but paying the difference (15 £). Now it's better because they made you change for free. Still, the problem remains: in my case, i only have an 8 years old macbook pro that can't handle modern games and a WiiU. The thing that makes me upset is that i MUST buy a new system to play this game, even if when i backed this game I only made it for the WiiU version.

Re: Yooka-Laylee Rattles Away From Wii U Release

Ricube

But... if you want to change platform, you still have to buy the game!
As you can read on their kickstarter FAQ (http://www.playtonicgames.com/faq), if you backed the WiiU version you can get another version, but not paying the full price again. You get more than 50% discount on the new platform. So, in the end, it doesn't really matter if you supported the game... Or you can wait for news on the switch release...
I know it makes sense, especially after they delayed this game, but think about the nintendo fans, I guess they are the main group Platonic targeted this game at, for obvious nostalgic reasons.
So, it makes sense, but also feels like a bad joke, for me, at least.
I'm also not sure I'm going to get a Switch at day one, not after the experience I had with the WiiU four years ago. After a few weeks you already found the system, used, for half the price.

Re: Miyamoto On Working With Apple, Living With Mario And Why He's Not Retiring Any Time Soon

Ricube

I really liked what he said about similarities between Apple and Nintendo. Concentrating on fun experiences is the thing that makes me love Nintendo. And the fact that they don't want a Free to Play is really a good idea for parents. I cannot believe how many parents there are that cannot control how their children make transactions in games. So, I do like the idea behind SMR and hope it will come to android soon.

Re: Nintendo on the Naming of the Nintendo Switch

Ricube

Recently I saw an article in a minor online tech magazine (don't remember the name) that was about shop sales for consoles in the coming month. After the Ps4 and XOne they wrote about the Wii2 offerings. They also repeated this Wii2 in different paragraphs, in bundle with Mario Kart 8... I also like the switch, as it illustrates the concept, but i'm not sure it will "switch" the way people play, that happened some time ago. Still, it could be an effective way of bridging the gap beetween console and mobile gaming.

Re: Video: Check Out How Etika's 'Nintendo Switch' Was Produced

Ricube

@Arlon My comment was ironic, the first part was just my first thought after actually watching the video. They never "faked me out" and, as I said in the comment, I'm impressed of the work they've done. Still, and now I'm going OT and it's not about you in specific, i find it interesting how often people engage in educational roles when answering to the comments of others.
