I had been using a Universal dock that is compatible with both Switch 1 and Switch 2, specifically for our upstairs TV so that my wife could play her Switch for our daughter and I could use it for my Switch 2 in the evenings (the main TV downstairs has the official Switch 2 dock). Up until now, it worked beautifully, allowing us to swap freely between the two with just a simple flip of a plastic board on the back.
Since this past week, two things have changed: 1) Her Switch still works, but running YouTube mutes the audio when using the dock. Playing it in handheld (or using the official Switch dock) plays YouTube audio just fine. Very strange. 2) My Switch 2 now just charges when on the dock, with no TV functionality anymore. It's like the latest update killed that functionality entirely. It does still work on the official dock (thankfully).
So yeah... Very frustrating. I bought this dock because it had glowing reviews and was under $100, but I've been using it successfully for so long, I don't know if I'm able to return it. I hope this gets fixed.
THANK YOU, FINALLY!!! Oh my GOD I needed this morale boost right now.
And to those saying "not a remake," SHUT YER FACE. A 2DHD remake of Trigger is one of my top 5 dream projects to miraculously happen in the future (others on that list include a Remastered Xenosaga Trilogy, a Switch port of Radiant Historia, and a new Dark Cloud).
I am so freaking happy just knowing that SOMETHING is in the works now. This is incredible.
Having played this game to death when it launched — and then watching so many analytical videos discussing the hidden meanings behind its ending messages and correlation to real-world events — not enough time has passed to warrant a return to it yet. It's not old enough for me to start to feel nostalgic for it yet, and the structure of the game is such that actively discourages additional runs. There's no incentive for replaying it, let alone repurchasing the entire game to do so.
This guy is just upset because the wild runaway success of its initial launch made him think the game had earned a timeless (natch) appeal that, unfortunately, it simply does not have. What was once an indie phenomenon is now a relic of a genre that has since seen vast improvements and genius entries that far surpassed anything this game accomplished. Sad to say, but it's true.
@Arcata I'm fully supportive of a reviewer simply not liking a game and being honest about it, but this time it really feels like this would benefit from a "second opinion" review to balance it out, from an editor who gives the game its proper shake. This would be like someone giving Power Wash Simulator a low score because you don't shoot enemies in a first-person game.
The problem arises from the fact that oftentimes with websites like this, a reviewer's opinion on a game becomes the final verdict and gets adopted by the website as a whole (i.e. for future articles regarding updates to the game, they'll link back to this review with a reminder that "for those still playing this game, even though it kinda sucks," etc. etc.). This is the type of situation where second opinion reviews should be warranted.
I have to ask the reviewer of this one, honestly... were you expecting more? Because if so, you were only disappointing yourself, as the trailers only ever said what this game was going to be. A zen-like, meditative game, 100% focused on swimming, exploration, and cataloging marine life. The trailers never built it up to be anything beyond that, so why would you put marks against it in the review as if they did? Why would you even compare it to Subnautica, an obviously different experience? Does a game HAVE to be more than just a calming, relaxing experience to be worth the full price tag, even if what it does offer still amounts to likely 60-80+ hours of gameplay (or more) to see everything?
"It's very much a 'vibes' affair, and we're just not really digging this particular groove at all."
Then perhaps you shouldn't be the one writing this review, if you are fully admitting that you are not its target audience. Instead of getting a written piece on the merits of the title and an encouragement to keep an open mind in why this could be a valuable experience, we get a short-sighted complaint that this game "isn't like Subnautica at all." This is like how Kotaku kept giving JRPG reviews to the one editor who openly despised the JRPG genre.
I didn't expect this kind of review from you guys, NintendoLife. This is disappointing.
...it's actually a pretty dang decent update. I'm excited to finally be able to play these two games after seeing them referenced in other Nintendo media for so many years. But still... BRING US GOONIES 2.
I'm still bummed they never got the 3DS remaster of Dementium 2 out the door that they had claimed was on the way. It's absolutely the superior experience and would have benefited greatly from an upscaled presentation.
Really, this SHOULD have been a bundle of both Dementium games on the Switch. It's still cool to see the games being kept alive on the latest hardware, but releasing them individually just feels like a strange habit for them to insist on continuing in 2023.
The "thought gestapo?" Pray tell, what NASCAR-related "thoughts" are you upset about not being allowed to share anymore? I'm sure they're nice and wholesome.
I just can't get past the DeviantArt-looking character designs, or the clunky run animation that doesn't seem to match the character's actual movements at all.
It's really upsetting, since this looks like it would be a fun concept. But even if the gameplay ends up being good, the visual style they chose to push into every element of the game would keep me at arm's length.
@DrassRay I don't know anything about the development/publishing process, but I know plenty of games on the eShop have demos released ahead of the official launch of the game. Though I'm not sure if they have any restrictions on how far ahead of launch you could release a demo or things like that, so it might depend on when you plan on releasing the Switch port.
Might be worth looking into, particularly if you've already got a demo on Steam almost ready to go!
@DrassRay HAHA, no worries dude! I've been a comic artist for 20 years now and I sometimes don't find typos in my work until someone points it out YEARS down the road. Always kicking myself for never catching them sooner, but there inevitably will be those that slip through.
If anything it just means you'll by hyper-aware of any potential typos in the final product, so it's all good! Looking forward to trying this out when it hits Switch. You thinking of offering a demo on the eShop when you have the chance?
Everyone complaining about DLC being announced for XC3 obviously have no freaking clue how XC2 set the absolute gold standard for how DLC should be done. They promised a release schedule with 3-4 simple bullet points, but then delivered about 100 different items over the year following its launch, including an ENTIRELY NEW GAME to close out the DLC.
Y'all really have no idea what you're talking about if you think this is in any way a bad bit of news. I will ABSOLUTELY be paying for all of this DLC from day one.
@Royalblues One of my favorite classic shmup series is the Darius franchise. It's sidescrolling and focuses on aquatic-themed robot ships and enemies. My first time playing it was Darius Twin on the SNES, and it was what got me hooked on the genre in the first place.
The Darius IP has a WEALTH of entries across multiple consoles and Arcade, and I think there are several collections available on Switch right now. I recommend the one that features the collection of SNES/Genesis/TG16 entries, but they're all worth the money overall.
The interesting thing I learned from this article is that you can pass this boss fight fairly easily by just letting Kirby drift in the lower-right corner of the screen. Good to know!
@Edward_J_Grug_III Okay... what did you do to get them to send you an email notification about the restock? I have the controller added to my "Wish List" on the site and they have NEVER emailed me about it. After seeing this article, I double-checked just to make sure I wasn't blind, and NOPE... no email.
Is there another step you have to take to get them to actually notify you when it's coming back in stock? I just need ONE controller, I'm not even looking for multiples.
@Ryu_Niiyama They ARE restricted to members. And limited to 4 controllers per active Nintendo Online account. And even WITH THAT, they still sell out in minutes, despite Nintendo not announcing ANYWHERE ahead of time that they are coming back in stock.
@Mr_Fox If that's what you're looking for, try playing Voice of Cards on the Switch! It's a game with some VERY ripped and VERY almost-nude male figures, appearing both as playable party characters and as NPCs.
And for the record, I played both VoC and Xenoblade 2, and absolutely adored both games. But I'm also not bothered by a bit of skin. In fact, I find it hilarious!
@kurtasbestos Sadly there's only one species missing from the playable cast. This might be the first mainline Xenoblade game that doesn't include a Nopon fighter.
Step 1: Buy Chrono Cross Remastered when it comes out.
Step 2: Buy the Live A Live Remake when it comes out.
Step 3: Respond to Square-Enix's recent survey asking for suggestions of other classic SNES games to give the "HD 2D" remake treatment, and tell them you want Chrono Trigger.
Step 4: PRAY TO WHATEVER GOD YOU SERVE THAT IT HAPPENS
God, if it weren't for the fact that translating an alpha-numeric keypad to the Switch screen would be damn near impossible, I would freaking KILL for a Colecovision compilation. We've seen countless Commodore/Intellivision/Atari collections over the years for various different systems, but no one EVER remembers the Colecovision, despite it having the best graphics of that generation AND the definitive home console port of Donkey Kong (even superior to the NES version).
If Atari ever comes around and revives/finishes their Swordquest series of games (c'mon, Airworld!), then it would officially take the crown for this world record.
Chances are high the "buyer" is employed by WATA Games (or its parent company). Every previous "record-breaking" auction has been WATA simply re-purchasing its own items in order to have the media report the inflated prices. This is all a scam to sucker others into thinking that extremely common games are suddenly a hot investment.
@Poodlestargenerica A free market economy would be if people were actually buying the games at these prices. When it's people from the same company that owns the original games buying them at inflated prices, that's market manipulation and fraud.
Something that Jim Halperin (advisor to WATA games and co-founder of Heritage Auctions, both parties behind this scam) was already convicted of and forced to pay millions by the FTC in the 1980s when he was found guilty of pulling this exact same scam with collectible coins.
What I still find amazing is the variety of properties that got shoehorned into the "Crazy Castle" series for other regions. Here it was all Bugs Bunny, but in Japan the original title was freaking Who Framed Roger Rabbit on the Famicom! I've always wanted to track down a version to play it, but it's so hard to find.
Instead of that version, we got the terrible LJN Roger Rabbit game that is confusing as hell and damn near impossible to beat (the Judge Doom fight is one of the most difficult and tedious boss battles in ALL video game history).
Waiting for a Lego Mario set tailored towards actual model building. I would have loved these sets as a kid, but now part of me is sad that this is ALL they're doing with the license.
@shonenjump86 GOD, yes, please. Metroid Prime Pinball is still one of my favorite DS games, and Monster Hunter would make a great theme for a pinball adventure title.
@Silly_G I would think it would qualify as unsanctioned fan art, since no one is claiming ownership of the characters. But I'll admit I don't fully understand the text of the law in that area. I just know that I would much rather see independent artists be spotlighted instead of yet another story about how scalpers are still inexplicably being allowed to do what they do.
NintendoLife Editors: Do you think you could put together a feature article showcasing a variety of the custom-made Sanrio Amiibo options you can find readily in stock on Etsy? Not only are these more attractive and well-made collectibles than simple Amiibo cards, but you also will be guiding people towards supporting small businesses instead of sending more desperate buyers into the hands of scalpers (even if that isn't your intent with this article).
Just a thought, it would be a nice change in direction for sites like this. We all already know what a problem scalpers are (ESPECIALLY right now), so it seems like reporting on them is kinda like feeding the trolls in that it gives them more attention. I'm more in the camp of ignoring the scalpers completely and just signal-boosting anything that helps destroy their "business."
From the sounds of these comments, I'm thinking most folks don't realize Swapdoodle on 3DS exists.
All you guys in here sad about losing Swapnote... Awhile back Nintendo re-released it as Swapdoodle, which is the exact same app, but with the ability to send attachments removed. It's not only still available to download, but still has its internet functionality intact (last I checked).
You still can send messages to each other, just like before. You just can't attach photos or screenshots. I'm also hoping they eventually bring it to Switch, but for now if you have a 3DS, you can still send doodles and messages to your friends over WiFi.
I'm a lifelong Nintendo fan, and always will be. That being said, I've reached the point of "I'll believe it when I see it" when it comes to potential news/announcements.
Leaks are great when they turn out to be true, but Nintendo is notoriously secretive with this stuff... and ever since Iwata passed and Reggie retired, they've decided to stop talking to us via Directs on even a semi-regular basis.
They're still Nintendo, so I still love 'em... but it's terribly frustrating.
And then there's me, an old fart first-generation-gamer born several years before the release of the NES. If they included the Nintendo releases on Colecovision or arcades, then I might have something.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I had some birthday funds on my account, and I've been craving a rhythm game fix, so it was between this and the new Kingdom Hearts Theatrhythm game coming out. After trying both demos, this one was just way more enjoyable, even if the price is a bit much for just a local multiplayer option.
But there's also a LOT of content to unlock in characters, magic abilities, and songs, plus a whole slate of DLC already available and in progress. So I didn't feel too bad paying for the full game, it'll keep me busy for quite some time to come.
It's basically the lovechild of Puzzle Bobble and Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, and it's absolutely wonderful.
This review should also mention that they have a free demo available on the eShop for those who'd like to give it a try. Ten minutes with it and I was immediately going back in for the full purchase. This game is just a delight.
@valryon Question: Is this only going to be local multiplayer, or will it have an online VS component as well? I'd love to be able to face off against my fellow Tetris Attack/Puzzle League addicts online for just $6.
I finally decided to pick up the Crash collection since I was a lifelong Nintendo fan and stuck with Mario throughout the 90s (didn't invest in a Playstation until close to the PS2 release), and really enjoyed playing the original... until I hit that Road to Nowhere level and it was like hitting a brick wall. Now I know why Mario 64 won that fight..that level is senselessly difficult to the point of ruining my enjoyment of the entire original game.
I'm going to move on to giving Crash 2 and 3 a try (I bought the series because Crash 4 looks like fun, and I finally wanted to give it a try), but Crash 1 may remain unbeaten for awhile. I've beaten and destroyed some of the most difficult games during my youth (NES Batman, Battletoads, Ninja Gaiden, etc), but I'm pushing 40 now and apparently don't have the patience for brutal difficulties anymore.
But guys, see! This was ALL FOR THE BEST, because otherwise Switch and PS4 players wouldn't be able to play with mobile gamers!! This feature alone meant it was vital for them to ditch local co-op in favor of forced online and cross platform play, and you'll see the value in it when after a dozen disconnected attempts, you are able to finally connect to other players who have no tactile buttons in a game that absolutely needs them! This whole nonsense with the entire game now being completely inoperable to the point of having to pull the game from sale until its fixed is just a necessary speed bump. IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT!! Save that money for when it gets relisted, because CROSS PLATFORM PLAY WITH MOBILE IS THE FUTURE, BABY!!!
(he said, facetiously)
And this is coming from someone who spent hours in college when the original came out, jumping through the dozens of hoops to get the damn thing running with four PLAYERS and four GBAs. That local co-op led to such incredible golden moments, but all of that magic has now been removed.
Screw cross-platform play in a game intended for couch co-op. This needs to be a hard lesson learnt on the part of Square Enix in what NOT to do in a remastered port, but eh, we all know better...
Well, there goes 90% of the people planning to buy it who played it back in the day, myself included. That's like if they made a new Mario Party that was online-only. This game was built SPECIFICALLY FOR LOCAL CO-OP. You take that element away, you may as well just cancel the game.
Well, they upgraded the firmware of the Joycon to... uh... improve drift compatibility, maybe? Y'know, for when you want the sync the Joycon to your brain to minimize input lag...

Re: Poll: Is Your Third-Party Switch 2 Dock Still Working After This Week's System Update?

Re: Review: Endless Ocean: Luminous (Switch) - A Meditative Marine Milieu, But Incredibly Shallow
The problem arises from the fact that oftentimes with websites like this, a reviewer's opinion on a game becomes the final verdict and gets adopted by the website as a whole (i.e. for future articles regarding updates to the game, they'll link back to this review with a reminder that "for those still playing this game, even though it kinda sucks," etc. etc.).
Re: We Might Now Know Why Swapnote For 3DS Got "Remastered" Last December
Re: DuckTales NES Prototype Unearthed, Features An Unused Song
@BlackenedHalo Man, I am impressed. If I had an opinion as wrong as yours, I would be ashamed to share it publicly. Kudos, sir.
Re: Get A First Look At The Story Of Seasons Marriage Candidates
That is freaky... Jack basically looks exactly like my senior year portrait from high school. What the hell.
Re: Nintendo's Direct Archive Appears To Have Been Updated, And It's Got Some Fans Excited
Re: Nintendo's New Switch Online App Now Includes Cute Birthday Trivia
And then there's me, an old fart first-generation-gamer born several years before the release of the NES. If they included the Nintendo releases on Colecovision or arcades, then I might have something.
Re: Mini Review: Touhou Spell Bubble - A Puzzle Bobble Sequel In All But Name
@Clyde_Radcliffe I had some birthday funds on my account, and I've been craving a rhythm game fix, so it was between this and the new Kingdom Hearts Theatrhythm game coming out. After trying both demos, this one was just way more enjoyable, even if the price is a bit much for just a local multiplayer option.
But there's also a LOT of content to unlock in characters, magic abilities, and songs, plus a whole slate of DLC already available and in progress. So I didn't feel too bad paying for the full game, it'll keep me busy for quite some time to come.
Re: Mini Review: Touhou Spell Bubble - A Puzzle Bobble Sequel In All But Name
It's basically the lovechild of Puzzle Bobble and Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, and it's absolutely wonderful.
This review should also mention that they have a free demo available on the eShop for those who'd like to give it a try. Ten minutes with it and I was immediately going back in for the full purchase. This game is just a delight.
Re: Listen Up, Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Hosting A "Big Ears" Spirit Board Event Later This Week
@TheFrenchiestFry Compared to the rest of the Sonic universe, she's pretty high in the, uh... "ear" rankings.
Re: Listen Up, Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Hosting A "Big Ears" Spirit Board Event Later This Week
Ahhhhh yes, Rouge! A character who is certainly well-known because of her big...... ears.
Re: Flipon Brings Even More Match-3 Puzzle Action To The Switch eShop Next Week
@valryon Question: Is this only going to be local multiplayer, or will it have an online VS component as well? I'd love to be able to face off against my fellow Tetris Attack/Puzzle League addicts online for just $6.
Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Collections And Compilation Games
Re: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remaster Pulled From Australia's Switch eShop
Re: The Remaster Of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Won't Support Local Multiplayer
Well, there goes 90% of the people planning to buy it who played it back in the day, myself included. That's like if they made a new Mario Party that was online-only. This game was built SPECIFICALLY FOR LOCAL CO-OP. You take that element away, you may as well just cancel the game.
Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con, As Well As Your Nintendo Switch
Well, they upgraded the firmware of the Joycon to... uh... improve drift compatibility, maybe? Y'know, for when you want the sync the Joycon to your brain to minimize input lag...
