Re: 'The Art Of Bravely Default II: 201X-2021' Is Getting An English Release In 2025

PaulBizkit

I have this artbook in japanese and have been using the google translate camera to read the comments. It's really fascinating to see all the factors that contributed to the designs, for example designing the archer asterisk around the story of the mother that was in the forest (one of the toughest asterisk fights).

If you can, buy it, you'll love to go through this book

Re: Poll: Which Is Your Favourite Nintendo Game Cartridge Design?

PaulBizkit

SNES usa. The most practical and also feel big when actually grabbing them. The super famicom has a better label but not being able to see the title sucks.
Cant believe n64 is winning, just having the game image in the label without any formatting is not that good, same as with the boxes

Re: Random: New Pokémon Ad Positions 3DS As 'Retro', And The Internet Disagrees

PaulBizkit

pokemon is always targeted at kids and teens, and the characters in this ad are really young. So it's normal that an 18yo guy (in 2024) would have nostalgia for a game he played when he was 7 (in 2013).

In the same way, I played gen 1 when i was 11 (in 2000), and in the span of 13 years i went from loving it to dropping it to loving it again on XY. Of course i was nostalgic for gen 1 when it was 2013... and now it's been 11 years from that.

So, it's all math. Years have more weight when you're a kid. After 25, every year feels like yesterday. I myself, still see the ps4 as current and the ps5 like it just came out last year.

Re: 50 Best Game Boy Color (GBC) Games Of All Time

PaulBizkit

It's too bad that fan-translated games never make it to these lists, because Star Ocean Blue Sphere is an amazing action rpg with one of the best sprite works on the console (if we take out non-action games like the sakura taisen ones), the second Pokemon TCG game and Samurai Kid, all really good games.

Re: Random: Nintendo Gives Princess Peach Some Facial Tweaks In 'Showtime!' Key Art

PaulBizkit

I like the original more. I always loved how peach could be anything, like a soccer player, smash fighter, kart driver, etc., while being super feminine and happy-looking (like in smash, where she seems super happy that she can KO you with her butt tackle).
In super mario rpg, she hits you with an umbrella, fan or a frying pan, and has healing powers... but she also has a AOE bomb attack and is the best character in the game.

I feel like it's more fun when she can do anything (like fencing and cooking in Showtime) and still be happy and feminine.

EDIT: btw, is her in-game model changing? if it's just the box art, then it's all just a kirby situation and nothing else

Re: 2D Anime Fighter 'Phantom Breaker: Omnia' Gets An English Dub Trailer

PaulBizkit

Well, the comments are spot-on, the game looks too generic. It's like melty blood without interesting characters, like arcana heart without the lewdness, like under night without personality, it's missing something like idk, some mech wearing a kimono or a bear with a skateboard or a maid with a horse head or something wacky like that

Re: Astria Ascending Showcases Combat In New Trailer

PaulBizkit

Looking forward to it.

Just want to take this time to appreciate that we still have video game news websites that have their own styles and it's not just twitter 24/7. I loved going to gametrailers.com but it has been replaced entirely by youtube, but these articles cannot be replaced by twitter.
Thanks for your hard work, love the website.

Re: Poll: Why Do You Collect Video Games?

PaulBizkit

i have a small collection that includes:

  • SNES games that i have from when I was a kid (like 40)
  • Super Famicom games from when I went to japan (only 10 or 12, all classics like alttp, super metroid, dkc2, kirby, ff6)
  • PSP games (10 from its era, plus 5 from the japan trip)

That's it, then it's botw on switch and pokemonY on 3ds.

Re: Soapbox: Life Is Strange On Nintendo Switch Signals Better LGBTQ+ Rep To Come

PaulBizkit

The first game is great for many reasons (plot, aesthetic, art direction, music) and one of them is the fact that it doesnt shove LGBT ideology down your throat.
It's a story about Max, her hometown and her friendship with Chloe (it doesnt even have to be two lesbians if you dont want to, you can make max straight and kiss that cringe dude).
The final part of chapter 3 and the final segment really stay with you after you finish the game.

Now, if True Colors only selling point is "LOOK, AN LGBT EXPERIENCE FOR US, THE ENLIGHTENED" then im out.

Re: Mini Review: Ayo The Clown - A Breezy Platformer That Yoshi Fans Will Enjoy

PaulBizkit

I think you guys need a second point scale for games that a very precisely aimed at KIDS.

"A bit too easy, even on the harder difficulty"

It's something bad for, let's say, a shooter or an rpg; not for a platformer for 4 year-olds.

I think your point scale for kids should be like:

  • not recommended: too hard or cryptic, combination of buttons or reading gets too complicated
  • recommended but be aware of x thing: a great game for kids but has too much text or has hard bosses, etc.
  • highly recommended: perfect for small kids, you can watch them play and provide help if they need it, but it's something for them
kirby games, ayo the clown, yoshi games

Re: Nintendo And Oxford University Want To Know How Animal Crossing Players Are Doing Mentally

PaulBizkit

i have a full time job and a family, i turn on animal crossing for a few minutes and i feel these two things:

1. I can collect the money tree, dig a few fossils and buy some clothes, and it'll all be worth the time.

2. I don't have enough time or in-game money to re-shape the island and move houses around.

A fellow NL poster gave me some tips last week but i need to find time to put them in practice.

Re: Soapbox: Indies Lead The Way But Nintendo Shows Progress Representing People Of Colour

PaulBizkit

@Mando44646 not objectively, you're right there. But race and sexual orientation have been HEAVILY politicized in recent years. The problem with that is that, if you want someone to represent what you believe, that someone might have a very extremist position and that leads us to "weaponizing" race and sexual orientation, and that ends up creating tribalism.

It sucks and it shouldn't be that way. It's not what we say, we actually respect each other, but the higher ups (the ones making this political) make a war of hate out of this..

Re: Soapbox: Indies Lead The Way But Nintendo Shows Progress Representing People Of Colour

PaulBizkit

Media representation is not important at all, and im saying this as an ARGENTINIAN, we dont appear in any videogame except sports ones and we don't care. What's important, is to have characters that feel human.
Im a straight male and I loved max from life is strange, akiyama from yakuza 4 and zack from crisis core. Skin color representation is not important AT ALL.

And don't use the word LatinX, it's cringey at best and condescending at worst. Gracias y adios!
