Update: And just like that, the eShop is now available across Latin America.
Switch owners in Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Peru can now purchase games directly from the eShop, with more than 750 items available from day one. Titles available at launch include Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Miitopia, Mario Golf: Super Rush, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Original Article (Fri 27th Aug, 2021 13:00 BST): Nintendo has announced that its digital eShop store will soon be made available in several new countries for the first time, bolstering its recent efforts to provide official access to its products across South America.
The eShop, a store accessible directly on Nintendo Switch systems that offers digital games and online subscriptions, will be going live across Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Peru. A recent post on social media asks fans to stay tuned for more info, with its launch expected "very soon".
Last December, the eShop launched in Brazil for the first time, offering 400 games from day one. Until these recent changes, Switch owners across South America had limited access to games and services and even had to import consoles from other territories, but things are certainly changing for the better.
We'll make sure to keep an eye out for any more details on the eShop's launch in the countries mentioned above and will update this article as we learn more.

Argentina it is often the cheapest country for many games. So time to create a profile from there.
It'lll be interesting to see how this venture fares for Nintendo.
And it'll be VERY interesting to see which game resonate with the South American players!
@Pod they are already playing for years now, but their eshop was on web browser and not on switch itself. Brazil was like that too not long ago.
@Pod Guacamelee?
I live in Argentina and this is great, mainly because the games are cheaper in the online store here and because there are currently a lot of titles missing. So I hope this launch solves the lack of content that had me going into other regions for Indie Games
@Friendly well, guacamole is from Mexico, wich is in North America 😅
Should have happened years ago, but better late than never.
@Controller-Drift If the process is similar to the brazilian store, a lot more games will start showing up! Nowadays it's extremely rare when a game I'm interested in is not available on the BR store (and most indies are a LOT cheaper too!)
Good news for my friend that moved to Argentina.
@Friendly Guacamelee is set in Mexico, that's not even the same continent as the countries in this article. I don't think Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru have Mexican wrestling.
@chickenmachine100 fair enough .
Hope prices are more reasonable as it happens when buying from the local Steam shops instead of the US ones.
I hope with PayPal
get ready nintendo, people will come from ALL AROUND THE WORLD to shop in argentina('s digital store).
@PaulBizkit that may end up increasing Argentina´s prices too. So this could be a good time to buy any title currently available in the ARG web browser shop
Since the eshop was launched in Brazil, things have improved a lot for us gamers here: tons of titles are available (with more titles released every week), many games have their cheapest worldwide price here, we don't have to pay any foreign shopping taxes anymore, it's easier to buy eshop credit, PayPal is available, partners are selling Nintendo game codes (there are some good sales quite often). All in all, that's whole new world and I'm pretty sure games are selling like hot cakes, especially indie titles. Right now we're going through a terrible economic crisis here. I don't know if prices are cheaper here because of that. Games are cheaper than they would be if they cost the direct exchange rate conversion from dollars or pounds. Maybe that's the reason.
I'm happy for our South American Brothers, countries like us which are enduring difficult times. If things get better for them, I'm happy for them
@chickenmachine100 Mexico is not int he same hemisphere as Argentina but it's definitely in the same continent: America
@dux Depending on where you went to school, or if you go by political or geological divisions, there are 4, 5, 6, or 7 continents.
So yes, Argentina and the US are in the same continent. And they also aren't.
There are 6 continents: America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania and Antarctica 🙄
@abdias That would be great, but the main problem is to have a valid payment method. I can buy in Mexican eShop thanks to a Mexican Paypal that I was able to create in a way that currently doesn't work, but somehow it remains a valid payment method for me. If only it was easier in Argentina... With a Revolut card, not asking too much.
@Moroboshi876 my international credit card works just fine on their eShop. Maybe because my country share borders with Argentina, or maybe any international credit card will do.
You can always buy a local prepaid credit card, but it is too much trouble to save few bucks IMO.
@abdias That's my problem. I don't even buy in Japan, because the prepaid cards are a pain in the ass. I have a Revolut Card, which allows to pay with many currencies with official exchange, no commissions, and that's what I use to buy in European countries that don't use the euro as currency, but in Xbox I haven't been able to buy anything from Argentina. I'll wait until these eShops have been working for a few days and see what options are there. Thanks.
Can anyone tell me if there is a PayPal option for payment? In Brazil there isn't
@dux Eurasia, Africa, North America, South America, Indo-Australia, Antarctica and the Pacific. So 7 if you go by plates
@BananaMetallurgica If it's a payment option, it will definitely have to be an Argentinian Paypal.
@dux
Europe and Asia count often as one, since they are only in human senses historical divided, they are also on the same Plate Tectonic and have no natural Border in Form of Water.
Its often called Eurasia.
India for Example is riding on its own Plate, but it is completly conected to Eurasia. Thats why it counts to Asia.
South and North America are also on two different ones, they are less conected through middle America as Europe is to Asia.
Africa, Australia and Antarctica are way easier to see as its own.
@Friendly
You should have gone with some Gauchos drinking Mate
(South american Cowboys, Mate is a Tea)
@Moroboshi876 it's good. I've a Mexican PayPal account and I can buy on Mexico and USA. I think that I won't have problems in south America
@BananaMetallurgica Great, I'll have to try then. In Xbox, as I said, I can only buy, with my Mexican Paypal, in Mexico. I thought it would be the same in the Switch eShop. Thanks.
@Moroboshi876 i think that it works i all america. i bought in mexico and usa without problems. with european paypal i can buy in all europe (russia incluse)
@Moroboshi876 but i saw that argentina's eshop is the worst. peru is the cheapest but i don't know if there is paypal option
@BananaMetallurgica A pity, then. We'll have to try Peru. Now it's a matter of those stores being included in the known websites that compare prices. Because switching regions and checking prices individually is also a pain in the ass.
@Azuris the point of the original commenter was about culture (Mexican wrestling specifically) and not plates tectonics 🙄
@Moroboshi876 I check it in a website
@BananaMetallurgica Well, in one that I thought was very well known called eshop prices... these new stores didn't appear an hour ago, at least. Could you point me in the right direction, please?
@Moroboshi876 I check the prices on eshop-prices.com
@BananaMetallurgica Jesus H. Me too LOL But I can't find prices for Argentina, Peru...
@Pod
Oh, we've been playing here in Argentina. We just have to pretend to be Canadian. Or buy physical copies. Or both, which is what I've done.
We had a web store, where you'd visit, purchase a digital code, and then input the code onto the eShop. But it's got relatively few titles: mostly Nintendo stuff, a few major third parties, and the occasional indie like Hollow Knight. So mostly I stuck to the Canadian store.
Hopefully this Argentine eShop is worth my time and has regional pricing like Steam. I'll check it out.
@Moroboshi876 @BananaMetallurgica I've been using the same site for quite a while now and I have definitely seen Argentina and Peru prices there for as long as I can remember. Didn't even know they didn't have an eShop until now. I guess it worked through redeem codes or something before this. Never tried buying from those regions though as I mostly stick to MX, ZA, RU and US.
Im from Chile and prices are worse than usa's. Even more expensive than physical
That's pretty cool! Having the eShop here on Brazil was a big improvement. I still change my account from time to time, but it's way easier to have one on my own currency when I just want to randomly check the games.
@path4smash Then maybe the problem is they don't have all the games (yet, hopefully).
Anyway, if they didn't have an eShop until now, how did people buy the games?
@Beaucine
Yeah sounds potentially nicer this way, and more likely to generate insightful data about the preferences of the region.
So far many games are missing, for example there are only 6 games on sale for Argentina. Hope they catch-up, even though that... Is convenient to adquiere the usual suspects, just keep an eye whether they eventually go on sale or not.
@Pod
So you're saying we've been swaying Canadian market analyses all this time?
We're sorry, Canada.
@valharian on google search for e-shop prices. It is a webpage that tells where the game you want is cheaper. Each game is different, there is not a place that wins everywhere, things change everyday too. That said, Argentina and Brazil usually are the best for e-shop only games, while Asia and Australia very often are the cheaper for the big triple A games.
@Moroboshi876 Most likely they roll out more games eventually. I think it was the same with the Brazil region which is slowly catching up now. Also somebody mentioned earlier that they bought digital codes on the official Nintendo region storefront previously when the eShop didn't exist yet.
I like how every country got a better eShop except China.
@Moroboshi876 i always saw the prices from south america in that site
@path4smash i only bought here in europe (poland, sweden, norwegy, russia, italy), south africa, usa, mexico and japan with eshop cards. i want to open a japanese paypal account but i need a number to receive the sms for sign in
@BananaMetallurgica Yes, I believe you. But they said something about 750 games being in those stores, so at the moment they are missing a lot, and among them the ones I'm interested in sadly...
@Moroboshi876 aah ok. i understand you now. this is the peruvian site https://store.nintendo.com.pe
@BananaMetallurgica at the moment the brazilian eShop only accept credit card and dowload card for some specific games.
@Giancarlothomaz yes i went to brazilian eshop 2 weeks ago. i think that peruvian is the same
¡Por fin!
It was very uncomfortable to be redeeming codes.
