Re: Nightdive Studios Reveal "Definitive" Re-Release Of 'Heretic + Hexen' On Switch

PKDuckman

I'm glad id Software got the rights to Heretic/Hexen back, since for many years after Bethesda purchased them, there were rights disputes with Activision, the owner of Raven Software, which is why characters from Hexen never showed up in Quake Champions. Now Doomguy is making guest appearances in Tony Hawk due to the MS purchase. I'm pretty sure we'll see a Hexen 2 and/or Heretic 2 remaster next year.

Re: Hitman: Absolution Sneaks Onto Switch 1 Later This Year, Switch 2 In 2026

PKDuckman

If you're new to Hitman I highly recommend playing Blood Money first. The problems with Absolution are that:

1) The levels are broken up into segments due to the memory limitations of them PS3/360. As such there are levels which are just linear corridors and you just have to escape to the exit without needing to target anyone, and the map is outright removed. The cool weapon collection aspect of Blood Money is also gone since in several levels you start with no gear due to story reasons.

2) The story involves 47 being on the run, but the cast is rather bizarre and feels like characters out of some exploration film, rather than the conspiracy thriller feel of the other games. I don't want to spoil anything here, but the infamous wrestling level highlight the plot's problems.

Re: Random: Of Course Helldivers Are Now Calling For A Switch 2 Port

PKDuckman

@Lord You do know that most of the Helldivers players are on PC right? Live service games need all the players it can potentially get, and Xbox has a significant shooter audience. Xbox Series is not the Wii U, and why shouldn't Sony try to court them, especially with the riding cost of AAA games development nowadays?

Re: Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition Is On Its Way To Switch This July

PKDuckman

@Lone_Beagle What's wrong with Beamdog exactly? They added numerous QOL changes to BG and NWN, including a scalable UI for the former, and got the multiplayer servers running again.

Aspyr in contrast introduced several bugs to the Switch versions of KOTOR 1 and 2, including several game breaking bugs that took over a year to fix.

Re: Aspyr Is Releasing Another Enhanced PC Classic On Switch This July

PKDuckman

I'm very disappointed that Aspyr is handling this rather than Beamdog, which handled Neverwinter Nights 1 plus the first two Baldur's Gate games, Icewind Dale, and Planescape Torment. Beamdog at least added numerous new content into the older games, whereas Aspyr's ports of the KOTOR games are barebones and came with numerous bugs that took ages to fix.

And I can't help but notice that the game is 27 GBs on the eshop, whereas the original version on GOG is only 5 GBs. Knowing Aspyr, most of the bloat would be AI generated asset, like what happened to the Battlefront collection.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Comes To Switch And Switch 2 In 2025

PKDuckman

@Serpenterror Oh I forgot that game ever existed haha. It was developed by a company called Distinctive Software which is now part of EA Canada, so perhaps the developers didn't want to pay EA for the game's code?

Also IIRC the first two TMNT NES games also have PC ports published by Konami. Although that DOS version of the first game has a jumping bug that made a level unfinishable.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Comes To Switch And Switch 2 In 2025

PKDuckman

@Serpenterror What game is missing from the TMNT Cowabunga Collection? IIRC it's mostly limited to the Konami catalogue and of the games based on the 1987 cartoon.

As for the other collections, yeah it is quite annoying that the SF 30th Anniversary Collection is missing the Japanese games in the Western release, and only a few games can be played online. Also the Samurai Shodown Neogeo Collection, it really should have dropped the Neogeo label and included SS6, particularly since it was included in the less powerful PSP version.

Re: Review: STEAM-HEART'S Saturn Tribute (Switch) - A Disappointing Return For A Notoriously Saucy Shooter

PKDuckman

I'm pretty sure the comment "the original’s sensual scenes have been thoughtfully adapted for a modern revival, respecting the heroines' privacy" just refers to the Saturn version which censored the more questionable cutscenes of the original PC-98 version. In the original version's cutscenes, Blow and Fella sets up on the bosses in a way that implies sexual assault, with graphical scenes to boot, since apparently the virus can only be cured by Blow's man juice. The later versions changed it to more suggestive ones.

Re: Hands On: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound - A Slick, Bloody Return To The Series' 2D Roots

PKDuckman

Looking forward to the showdown between Shinobi AOV and Ninja Gaiden RB. The interesting thing is that while Shinobi AOV is developed by Lizardcube which developed SOR4, Ninja Gaiden RB is published by Dotemu which published SOR4. It makes me wonder if there were any behind the scenes shenanigans which broke apart the partnership and one party took their idea of their 2D ninja game reboot to a rival franchise.
