Re: "Next-Gen" Anti-Grav Racer Redout 2 Speeds Onto Nintendo Switch In 2022

@DrDaisy there's an article here mentioning workplace problems, devs being ghosted, game patches not being submitted

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/09/nicalis_investigation_reveals_tales_of_ghosting_slurs_and_mistreatment_of_staff

A more recent one here from a dev that had to re-release their game with an updated version because the original one was delisted by Nicalis and it can't be updated anymore

Re: Talking Point: Do You Have A 'Way' You Play Certain Switch Games?

NullPointerExcep

I only play the Switch in handheld mode + headphones, it's pretty comfy

@nessisonett Maybe you could try a Binbok (I have it and I like it) or a Split Pad Pro (looks like some prefer it but I wanted a fully featured controller and the Binbok has gyro and rumble). I never tried a grip but they supposedly should help.

Anyway I know there's some demand for 4k or whatever but as of now the Switch has hardware more suitable for portable so portable is where it shines

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Become First Entries Since Gold And Silver To Surpass 20 Million Sales

NullPointerExcep

Got the version with the expansion on cartridge and I'm enjoying it, the wild area, playing with Pokémon in the camp, the good old battle and catching mechanics

Surely the internet lowered my expectations though, so I went prepared

Btw lots of Switch entries are breaking records in their respective franchises, maybe Pokémon can get even better numbers if they get more ambitious... Maybe a wild area with more complex and believable behaviors, and Pokémon interacting with each other

Re: Devolver Digital Teases Five Unannounced Games For 2021

NullPointerExcep

I mean, they mostly drop new IPs so it's kinda hard to speculate about
But I'm hoping for a while for a new game from Cactusquid, either Hotline Miami 3 or a new IP from him
Edit: looks like Dennaton Games are working on a side-scroller rumoured to be called Sector X, that would be interesting

Re: Review: Super Meat Boy Forever - A New Formula That Takes Away More Than It Adds

It's not endless btw in case people scrolled to the pros and cons, the "endless runner style" means it's an auto-runner

Levels take like 1min to complete in total, but they're made of several chunks that have checkpoints at the start of them.

The total time of the level is the sum of time on individual chunks (dying in a chunk resets the count for that specific chunk). The level replay shows your chunks attempts like they were part of a longer continuous run

As the reviewer said, the controls are simplified, but now there's more actions overall as you can slide kick, dive kick, jump and middle-air punch/kick (which acts as a forward dash and if you hit an enemy you can do another one again). You can manipulate the reach of these actions by holding the buttons for a longer or shorter time. It's definitely more complex than the first one, don't be fooled by the two-buttons scheme, which it makes it more accessible control-wise but the level design is where the difficulty is. I just get annoyed that I could've wasted less time in some runs if I could just turn around instead of having to find a wall to jump and flip directions

The soundtrack is less electronic and more instrument-band-based, I like it, I prefer the original Danny B soundtrack but that soundtrack is not present on the Switch version of the first Super Meat Boy either due to licensing issues (and internal conflicts)

The original super meat boy characters looked like low-poly 3d in-game. I think the drawn characters in this new one look way better

Another difference is that now needles at the clinic don't insta-kill you but instead rapidly fill a damage bar (other hazards are still insta-kill)

Some levels have unique mechanics like hooks, punchable blocks, tracks that speed up / slow you down

I think that if it had similar levels but with directional buttons + a sprint button people would be less suspicious of it, do take a look at some gameplay instead of jumping to conclusions

I'm enjoying it, could bump it to an 8. The original felt closer to a 10 but what you gonna do
Anyway it's an interesting follow-up, even though its auto-running scheme could be off-putting to some

Re: The Game Awards GOTY Is The Last Of Us Part 2

@Itachi2099 maybe they will report it later, but looks like Sony was messing up with some announcements through marketing deals, Evil Dead showed only PS platforms during the live stream
Disco Elysium looked like it was a PlayStation console-exclusive and I got disappointed but then through Twitter the devs also announced it for Xbox and Switch
Also there was a GTA Online trailer that only listed PlayStation 4 in the end even though that game is a notorious multiplatform title (that sadly is not on Switch but still)

Re: Review: Fuser - A Flawed, Dorky And Often Brilliant Music Game

NullPointerExcep

Definitely interested and it's a potential time sinker but it's a bummer then that looks like the requests could be more annoying than inspiring... Would be great if there was a way to slow things down, I like the idea of adapting to requests but not every 5s
I'd buy it it in a beat when there's a price drop on the deluxe edition though

Re: Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Appears To Be Getting A Physical Release On Switch In The UK

NullPointerExcep

@Bearzilla823 It won't happen anytime soon so it's not that big of a deal for the Switch, but it could happen sometime later like it already happened in some countries with the Wii U and 3ds eShops

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/04/nintendo_to_shutdown_limited_wii_u_and_3ds_eshops_in_select_countries

But if it comes to that we'll be warned with enough time left I hope
I think even the Wii Shop still let people redownload stuff though? So not that big of a risk but eventually I'll pick a sd card big enough to have everything downloaded just in case, also, less nuisance having to redownload games anyway

Re: Poll: What's The Best 3D Sonic Game?

NullPointerExcep

Ohh 3d ones?
It's probably Sonic Generations or Sonic Colors, really
But I think people will tend towards the Adventure sub-series even though they've not aged that well imo
(my secret favorite is Sonic Heroes and I would love a port to the Switch but it kinda sucks I reckon)

Re: Rumour: New Monster Hunter For Switch Will Be Revealed Soon, According To Capcom Insider

NullPointerExcep

@JuanGartner I think it's a "lite" version of their engine, so instead of them having to manually tone down details while using the regular engine, this new version would only support features the Switch could properly handle. This I imagine would impact the devs and artists approach while using this lite version from the ground up.

One example of the 'approach change' thing I think it's the Digital Foundry's Halo analysis, like, Infinite uses a demanding real-time lighting feature, but the older games could look good just mimicking lighting by drawing fake shadows on the textures themselves instead
