Capcom, as you might recall, suffered a massive leak not long ago. It seemingly confirmed a number of projects are on the way - including a game called Resident Evil Outrage, which is scheduled for Q4 2021.
According to well-known Capcom insider Dusk Golem - who has made a number of accurate predictions in recent times - this game is actually Resident Evil Revelations 3 (even if it doesn't go by this name) and perhaps more interestingly, will be a "Switch-focused RE game" - with the hybrid system being the lead platform. Here's exactly what they had to say via ResetEra:
"I sorta' weighed the options, I think long-term people believing there's an Outbreak 3 and it not existing may hurt more than help, but I also got 100% confirmation Outrage is RE switch. It may not be called Rev 3 when it releases, but it is for all intents and purposes, and its the Switch-focused RE game (not Switch exclusive though, it's coming to everything, Switch was the lead platform though). I know you know this, just decided & think it's coming out to the public anyways."
Earlier this year in August, Dusk Golem said Capcom would be release a new Monster Hunter game on the Switch soon and that it would be running on a Switch compatible version of the RE Engine instead of the company's older MT Framework engine. Later on in September, Capcom announced Monster Hunter Rise - running on its RE Engine - would be arriving exclusively on the Nintendo Switch in March next year.
The last entry in the revelations series was Resident Evil Revelations 2 - an episodic take on the survival horror series which originally launched in 2015 and eventually showed up on the Switch in 2017.

I really liked the first 2 revelations, so it would be awesome of this turned out to be true.
I don’t take stock in rumors, however “Switch is the lead platform” sounds lovely.
Revelations 1&2 were never my favourite in the series....but realistically I'd buy a third one.
RE has been slowly getting better since the 7, hopefully they keep it up.
If Revelations 1 can originally be a 3DS game and be as good as it is then a Switch led one can be amazing. I've been waiting for Revelations 3 so hopefully this is true
Makes sense. Resident Evil does quite well in Japan, and Japan is all-in on the Switch at this point. Obviously they're doing the same with Monster Hunter too, which also makes this more plausible.
RER2 was one of my favourite in the series, so I'd have high hopes for another one.
Resi 7 and the remake of 2 were brilliant but I worry that they’d skimp on the budget for a Switch game and end up with the mediocrity of Revelations 2. Not a bad game, just not a very memorable one. They have previous with Monster Hunter, in fact World is the outlier when it comes to scope but no such thing with Resident Evil.
Love the sub series, and absolutely adore RAID mode. So as long as it has RAID or something close, I'm in Day 1.
This sounds like really good news, what does worry me though is that this could feel like a token gesture and be a budget title to grab sales being that Village isn't coming to switch.
Saying that I'm getting old and cynical so hopefully it turns out to be something new and amazing continuing with the quality shown in 7
Maan I hope it's actually a Revelations 3
I dunno if I've missed some lore from other games but Revelations 2 ended with a kinda big cliffhanger and I'm kinda baffled that it was not addressed
It makes sense for the Japanese market to start with making a game run well on Switch, and then build it up for secondary platforms on the market. Now that Switch is the dominant system in Japan, a lot of developers there will be doing this.
From the creators of a story where everything is half "understandable", comes a nonsense story
Heck yeah. Loved the revelations titles.
As I have said before, Dusk Golen is extremely accurate with leaking Capcom info. In 2020 alone, he accurately leaked REVIII details, the conflicts around Street Fighter VI that lead to the resignation of Yoshinori Ono, and the existence of Monster Hunter Rise.
Anyways, based on the Capcom leaks, it seems like they are releasing the following Switch ganes next year:
> Monster Hunter Rise
> Monster Hunter Stories 2
> Ace Attorney 1+ 2 Collection
> Ace Attorney 7
> Capcom Arcade Stadium
> Ghost n' Goblins title built on the RE Engine
RE Outrage/Revelations 3 is currently scheduled for a Q1 2022 release.
Playing through 2 right now and am loving Raid Mode!
I'll wait for the PC version
If I'm understanding this right, this is the kind of thing I've been asking for from 3rd parties.
Make some games for Switch first. You can buff the graphics for other systems afterword. Building games for Switch is almost certainly going to result in better results than building them for a more powerful devices and then having to scale them back for Switch.
I really enjoyed RE Revelations on 3DS. Still have the copy with Revelations spelled wrong on the side cover 😁. Revelations 2 was ok but the episodic thing can but you off. I’m down with a third game.
If true im all in
YES YES YES PLEASE YES BE TRUE! RE Revelations 2 is so dang good. It and RE4 are my favorite RE games, have such a perfect blend of everything I want from bits and pieces of all the games. Hope they stick with the art direction too, grim settings that don't get too horrific, with nice punctuation of color and music to keep it from being a bummer. Have wanted this for awhile. Yes I know RE2 Remake is technically a better game than RE Revelations 2...but there is an air of fun and human warmth tucked inside of it. Just adore it.
Yes please be true
And hope Jill is in it as well😁😊
If it's released on everything, then Switch isn't a lead platform.
I really love Resident Evil. I adored 7 and I really liked both Revelations games, particularly the first one. The setting was my jam and I loved getting to play as Jill. Honestly, the section near the end of 7 (you know the one) reminded me a lot of Revelations. That and Revelations was a hell of a 3DS title. I'm interested to see what a Switch-led title would be like. Likely a day one buy.
@dojmin I think you missed the point. The main console that it’s being developed for is the Switch... and then ported to other consoles. Not the other way around because the Switch wouldn’t be able to handle a port from the PS5 or PS4 as the lead platform.
That's great, don't doubt this considering the source. Its great that Capcom is finally making games with the Switch in mind(MH Rise, Stories 2, and now this).
But what does that even mean? Am I meant to believe that because it was made specifically for the Switch, it won't look better on other platforms?
Because I highly doubt that. So this comment actually has no substantial meaning behind it.
It doesn't matter that it'll be made with the Switch in mind, it'll still run better in both graphics and frame rate on other platforms.
Essentially making this comment pointless. Now if it's an exclusive, that's a different issue. But it doesn't seem to be.
All this talk of Capcom supporting the Switch properly, we’ll see.
@NullPointerExcep Are you talking about the bad ending? Because the good (canonical) ending didn't have any cliffhangers as far as I recall.
It's a good series so I will be up for this. Hopefully means gyro aiming as well.
I would be down for this. If it is released on switch at the same time as other platforms and matches performance, and has parity in price compared to other platforms, maybe I'll pick it up. But so many ifs. All the reasons why I can't buy resident evil games on switch.
Well, after even Final Fantasy of all things released its PlayStation incarnations before Resident Evil did, I say we kind of deserve something special.
Great news! (if true).
I'll wait for the PC version.
Hahahahahaaa, I can't keep that up. Imagine coming to a Nintendo fan site and being that person.
Day one for Switch-centric Resident Evil. Now that Capcom are all about that REngine, it should be every bit as glorious as Rise (moreso if the environments return claustrophobic, closed in settings of old school survival horror).
Imagine..... A wholly different (and somewhat more enjoyable) reason to be absolutely terrified of catching a deadly infection while you are on the bus to work.
Love these Revelation games. Definitely an insta-buy for me.
Man I really hope this is true, the revelation games are actually my favorite this far in the series. A perfect blend of the action of RE5 and the atmosphere of the older games and the raid mode was so much fun and is by far the best "extra" mode capcom has ever given to an RE game.
I actually started going through rev2 recently and was imagining a rev3 for the switch, funny how things work out (if the rumor is true of course) I would set in a run down hospital and an abandoned theme park because everyone knows that those are the scariest places imaginable.
@Iggy-Koopa Yep, imagine being that guy, but here we are...imagine being so sad as to come to the site of a console you despise, just to say you'll get it elsewhere...lockdown must be getting to them. Actually saying that I don't think they noticed a difference.
@WiltonRoots,
Yes the usual idiots on here never let us down. this title might be for the much rumored Switch Pro, that will offer 8K and be twice as powerful as the Series X and PS5 put together.
They are getting confused by terminology. This "is" Resident Evil Outbreak which was Capcom's series term for co operative (and later online) focused Resident evil. The story may include characters and link to Revelations (which was envisioned as a portable experience, but that went out the window)1 and 2 in some ways. But the fundamentals are a co operative online experience like Outbreak always envisioned. Hopefully it will be a solid entry. If they can get some of the animations used in remake 2 and 3, it'll look and play the business.
@johnvboy I've just seen that train wreck of a March 31st Mario article. Really highlights the crybabies who frequent these comment sections.
@WiltonRoots,
Not been on that yet, need to pay a visit to put things right.
@RainbowGazelle there's something that happens on both, it's just that it's obvious with the bad ending, while on the good ending is just implied on the epilogue, or so that was what I understood
A new RE game with local co-op play and a new Mercenaries mode ? Count me in!
I had tons of fun with RE:Revelations on the 3ds and with RE: Revelations 2 on the PS4. Actually, I still play RE:Revelations 2 to this day with my niece since she got the game for her Switch.
Very very excited about that.
Yes is the answer. Hell yes if Barry is a lead character again.
I'd love this. The first Revelations is still one of my favorite RE games. Hopefully, they make Jill the main protagonist again. I'd also love if they brought back Sheva and brought in Chris, Leon, and everyone else from the original Revelations; also wouldn't mind Claire being there too.
I’m still waiting for Revelations 2 for my 3DS
Yes. Revelations 1 and 2 were really great especially the online co-op with number two I played with my sister the entire game online. We also did resident evil 5 and 6 that way, resident evil 5 was great resident evil 6 was absolutely absurd but still fun.
We have been hoping there would be a Revelations 3.
I still gotta play the RE3 remake. I loved 2 and beat it with Leon, but not Claire. After so much RE I guess I burned out a little. The amount of time I put into Revelations 2 Raid Mode with a friend is unreal. I hope this one has a raid mode.
Very nice. Revelations 1 had a great story mode and Revelations 2 had the best raid mode in any RE game so far (though sadly the online mode no longer works on the Switch without paying Nintendo, despite everything running on Capcom's servers), so hopefully Revelations 3 will excel at both. I also prefer the controls in the Revelations games compared to all other RE games. Both games were and are also truly incredible technical showcases, which is especially impressive considering Revelations 1 was released early in the 3DS's life, and likewise for the Revelations 2 port on the Switch.
RE Engine will be paying dividends on Switch for years to come.
At the end of the day, exclusivity has no advantage for other platforms aside from bolstering and stroking the egos of fanboys. But on Switch, exclusivity ACTUALLY has an advantage. It ensures games are built ground up with Switch in mind first and foremost.
So I do like to see Switch exclusivity, or console exclusivity, whenever possible. That said, I have no problem with Switch games that are multiplat just so long as Switch is the target platform and the game is designed with the hardware in mind. Like Neo: The World Ends With You, Resident Evil Switch will be, above all else, a Switch game.
And that’s the bottom line that matters. It means we’ll be getting some truly spectacular 3rd party games that are built for the system. A new Monster Hunterand a new Resident Evil designed for Switch. Yes please.
@NullPointerExcep Ah yeah, right. I'm not sure if they plan to do anything with the thread left in the good ending or not. We'll see, I guess.
@nintendoknife agreed, great games that showed great features and quality not expected on a handheld Nintendo platform.
I am hoping this is a revelations game as in splitscreen local co-op, but i would like an experiment or infusion of more outbreak elements too.
My dream resident evil game is a solo co-op optional game where players play through a single location linear in structure with every single area having a handcrafted feel to it and 2 to 3 hidden objects or unlockables. There are 65 to 85 linear locations in all connected like a spider's web through mostly unlocked branching paths.
Every third area has a hidden or extra enemy. All locations are divided between six sectors and the story unfolds differently based on the order of sectors players complete. Combat options depend on what skills or perks different player squads possess.
The main goal is to learn escape route locations by advancing some or all of the story. Every escape route partially affects the story ending. Presence of some characters in squad during story may cause some scene or gameplay changes.
@Ryu_Niiyama dusk golems description of resident evil: village was beat for beat the same as the trailer shown at the PS5 event. This guy is the real deal.
This series was not good, and why waste time on this when they can spend the time making a actual good game instead?
Liked Rev 1, loved Rev 2, so i am absolutely looking forward to this.
@nintendolife Resident Evil Showcase is happening on 1/21/2021. Tune in for RE Village gameplay, new trailer and more resident evil news.
Hopefully, a revelations 3 is announced at that time.
@NullPointerExcep its not Revelations 3. RE Outrage is never Revelations 3. And it is never meant to be on Switch. Outrage is supposedly a multiplayer component of a game or something and it was leaked for Playstation and Xbox consoles and also PC but no Switch
@JaxonH there is no RE Outrage for Switch, its all false.
@anoyonmus
Doesn’t matter what the name is. Call it whatever you want. The bottom line is there is a resident evil game in development for switch, confirmed by the Capcom hack AND confirmed by the leaker who told us about Monster Hunter Rise.
Whatever codename they use is irrelevant to that point.
@JaxonH no there isn't. RE Outrage is not meant for Switch at all. In fact NateDrake said that Outrage is a multiplayer game. He is still unsure whether there is a Switch game in development. But Outrage is not Rev 3. Yes RE4 remake does exist but Outrage we don't much about it. It could be cancelled or not be a Switch title at all.
Also Dusk isn't a reliable person all the time. He said Alex Wesker would be the villain in RE Village. If I recall correctly, he said Jill Valentine will be in RESIDENT EVIL 6. He also steals other info from other leakers and claims it as himself. Also Capcom themselves said they would do a Monster Hunter for Switch but we aren't sure whether to believe or not at the time.

There is NO resident evil game for Switch in development at all. Even Dusk Golem says he is unsure if it is real now. Best to forget about it and leave RE to the more powerful consoles where it will be and best experienced on powerful hardware
@anoyonmus
Nah, they didn’t bring RE engine to switch to sell 7.5 million copies of Monster Hunter in 6 months to do nothing else with it.
I don’t care about the multiplayer game, I guarantee you a resident evil game is coming to switch, where it is best played thanks to the versatility of the system.
Best to accept it’s happening so that when it gets announced your ego isn’t crushed.
@JaxonH stop thinking that a Resident Evil game would happen just because Monster Hunter Rise sold well. Capcom could use it for any games that could work well on Switch. Ace Attorney could work (maybe) in the RE engine. But a Resident Evil game would be too difficult to port or make. But Idk, maybe it exists or it doesn't. But I am gonna assume it doesn't so I don't get disappointed. Resident Evil is also MEANT to be played on powerful hardware where it looks and plays much better than it is on Switch. As much as I love the Switch there are just some games that don't really work too well. Granted, RE Revelations 1 and 2 worked fine on Switch and so did older games but then again they were older games. Stuff that ran on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Also none of the RE engine RE games could never run on Switch. Its too much of effort and I want Capcom to focus on Pragmata (Division 1) more for the new gen consoles where it will look amazing. Don't want them to focus on a RE game that will be hindered by the limits of the Switch.
Pragmata more important and top priority please
@anoyonmus
And for the record, NateDrake has lost all credibility to me. The same guy that was 100% adamant switch OLED was going to be a pro with DLSS. In fact the only time he’s ever been right about something he came up with originally was Devil May cry. Every other time he’s either been wrong or it’s been piling in after someone else says something. I don’t know why anybody listens to him anymore. Not to say Dusk has been right about everything, but he has been right about a LOT of stuff.
At the end of the day, common sense prevails. You don’t spend all that time and money bringing RE Engine to Switch to do nothing with it. Especially on a system where sales are exceeding that of other platforms (RE Revelations Collection on Switch outsold PS4 and X1 combined, MH Rise has almost matched World sales on PS4/X1 despite one platform without mega marketing like Witcher and Assassins Creed crossovers and GOTY nomination).
We also know they’re interested in bringing as much of the series to switch as possible because they tried getting RE7 to run years ago. They’ve brought 7 different RE titles to Switch already. If nothing comes, then so be it. It’s just one game after all. But I am not convinced Capcom has nothing in the works for a Switch Resident Evil game
@anoyonmus
I want Capcom to focus on Pragmata (Division 1) more for the new gen consoles where it will look amazing. Don't want them to focus on a RE game that will be hindered by the limits of the Switch
That’s fine, you can want whatever you want. But a lot of other people want the opposite and don’t want games hindered by the limits of games tethered to the television.
Just because you value graphics doesn’t make you more right than someone who values versatility. And I’m not going to get in a fanboy argument with someone who wants to come on NintendoLife and post about how much better graphics are- you’re on the wrong site for that.
@JaxonH I am not saying for graphics and all. I just want a good experience. And that Resident Evil experience should best be left on home consoles and PC
@JaxonH or maybe its for the more powerful Switch in 2023 for all we know and they will leave the soon to be 100 million customers of the normal Switch and Oled and Lite.
RE7 can't even run on Switch. and perhaps they decided to go for games that fit the Switch audience like MH, or Ace Attorney.
@anoyonmus
I want a good experience too, and when I look at Resident Evil Revelations 2, and how amazing it looked on Switch, and then I look at how good monster hunter rise is on Switch, becomes immediately apparent that a switch focused resident evil we look absolutely incredible, and with the strength of the system adding Gyro aiming, tabletop and handheld play, That’s an experience that should be on switch first and foremost.
I would rather have that than all the other resident evil games running on my PC or PS5 that have nothing going for them at all except slightly better graphics.
I haven’t seen a game yet that wasn’t a better experience on switch (unless it’s just a bad port- I’m talking games that look and run well, which RE Switch definitely would)
@JaxonH same here
