Re: Nintendo Hits Huge Milestones As Switch Sales Soar Across Black Friday And Cyber Monday

NoxAeturnus

@AlexSora89 Brilliant. I love every sentence of it. My favorite: "I do not understand who the Switch is for." That perfectly sums up the elitist sub-section of the gaming market, and simultaneously why the Switch has been such a roaring success. They even pull quoted that particular line, which just makes it like a fine wine or cheese that grows more relevant (and hilarious) over time. Thanks for dragging that back up, I needed a good laugh today.

@Figeluren A global boycott isn't an overreaction at all. When one of my car parts fails I take it to my mechanic and start smashing his office with a hammer. Gets the part replaced way faster.

Seriously. You're right that consumers have A LOT of power. And boycotts can effect change, but not every problem needs a nuclear solution. Shouldn't that be the last resort rather than the knee-jerk response? We don't have to burn the whole forest down every time we find a piece of garbage in it.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Reveals Nintendo Has Already Selected DLC Fighters For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

NoxAeturnus

When they announced Piranha Plant, my first thought was "Whaaa...?" and then I saw it fighting and I was like "Huh, interesting..." I get the feeling it's going to have its niche. That being said, it's impossible to guess what could be coming for new fighters if they're willing to make PIRANHA PLANT a full fighter.

Skull Kid. The first time I saw someone suggest it I thought that would be really cool and unless someone's seen him as an assist or a spirit or something I'm still holding out a little hope. Feel free to crush it if you have seen him deconfirmed. But if it's anything LoZ, it'll probably be from BotW. In which case I want Kilton.

Re: Niantic's Rework Of Ingress Could Make Pokémon GO A Better Game

NoxAeturnus

I don't care about the level cap. How about making it so you can take your pokemon out of a gym? Or better yet, make it so you can bump a team member's pokemon out of a gym if they've hit their coin cap, or if they've been in for a certain amount of time. That way there's an incentive to hold a gym for your team instead of hoping for another team to come along and roll it over so you can retake it, AND you can get your pokemon back from a gym healthy rather than always fainted.

Rabble rabble! Outrage! Anger complain!

You're either buying this game for what it is at this point, or boycotting it for what it's not. It's not next year's real Pokemon RPG. I'm tired of everyone's opinions about Let's Go. Just vote with your wallets, let those who want it enjoy it, and shut up about it.

Aw crap, forgot where I was. Carry on internet.

Re: Elder Scrolls Online Isn't Coming To The Nintendo Switch Because It "Will Not Fit"

NoxAeturnus

@BigKing It's not stopping games from being made for Switch either, but it does make a convenient excuse because it shifts the blame from the developer's poor optimization to Nintendo's lack of internal storage. This game is poorly optimized on PC, they would never even consider putting in the work to make it happen on Switch. Do you really think that if Switch had a 500GB internal drive it would change that? No, I think they'd have a different excuse: not right for Switch's market, system isn't powerful enough, downgrading the graphics would hurt the integrity of the product we want to sell, etc. Take your pick. All of them are nice ways of saying the time and money to port the game and properly optimize it aren't worth the risk of a low return on that investment. Storage isn't the issue here.

Re: Elder Scrolls Online Isn't Coming To The Nintendo Switch Because It "Will Not Fit"

NoxAeturnus

@Alucard83 @BigKing Storage is becoming just as much a problem on PS4. RDR2 and CoD take up 200GB together. I think the real problem is optimization, and that's an industry-wide issue, especially with 3rd parties. Bethesda in particular is notorious for their poor optimization. ESO isn't too big for Switch, it's just not worth their time and money to port it when the sales are likely to be low. When was the last time any MMO did well on console?

Re: Review: Valkyria Chronicles - SEGA's Strategy Classic Still Shines Ten Years Later

NoxAeturnus

@LinkSword I agree that A-rank based on speed is weak, especially since they overuse the "capture the enemy camp" win condition. They should have had a better objectives mix, maybe capture-all-enemy-camps, or even just kill-all-enemies. Even VC4 kind of has this problem, though they've fixed it in some ways. When I pick up VC1 again for Switch, I plan to use those two things as my personal objectives on each map. I'll probably replay VC4 that way eventually too.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Has Stumbled With Switch Online, But It Can Learn From Its Mistakes

NoxAeturnus

Value is subjective. Personally, I think NSO's value is pretty much on point. Its features are not a competitive offering compared to services on other platforms, however with the family plan I paid less than $5 per year for it. For me, the NES games alone are worth that price. I just hope they roll Pokemon Bank into NSO in the future.

Would I be willing to pay more for a more robust service? Probably. But that doesn't mean that what exists now is not good value for the price they're charging.

Re: A Zelda-Like Open World Pokémon Game Is "Still On The Cards", Says Junichi Masuda

NoxAeturnus

I'll be one of the few naysayers here.

Not every game needs to be open world. In my opinion, too many games are already going open world because it's trendy, but open world fatigue is real. Pokemon is already a breath of fresh air as it is, because I can usually rely on it to be linear with limited exploration and a simple but fun gameplay loop. It's the perfect game to play between giant open world epics.

Also, if Pokemon ever loses its turn-based mechanics it is dead to me.

Re: Fast RMX Dev Shin'en Multimedia Teases Switch Announcement To Be Shared Tomorrow

NoxAeturnus

If it's a new Nano game I'll be totally pumped. A new IP would be cool too. I'd be equal parts surprised and disappointed if it's F-Zero. They're a good developer, but just because Fast RMX is a good game doesn't mean it's a good idea for Nintendo to shunt a similar franchise to them.

Honestly, I'm not sure we'll ever see another F-Zero from Nintendo. They might shop it out to a second or third party, or drop a mobile title, but I think they've been riding the success and brand recognition of Mario Kart forever now on their consoles. I really think their stance is: What does F-Zero add to the market that isn't covered by Mario Kart, which basically prints money?

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows The Harsh Reality Of Playing Dark Souls: Remastered In New Trailer

@Blizzia DS2 is my least favorite in the series. To each their own I guess. I'm with you on Demon's Souls, that game blew my mind when I first played it. Easily in my top 5 all time favorites, but so is Bloodborne. I totally get what you're saying about guns in games, and I agree, but BB's guns didn't bother me as much because they're generally weak for damage and limited use. I kind of saw them as an attack shield that I could only parry with.

I do feel like wherever you start, any future souls games you play will always feel a little easier because many of the skills transfer. DS1 felt way easier to me than Demon's Souls, but I wasn't a huge fan of the sprawling open world. Bloodborne struck the perfect balance for me between Demon's Souls' hub world and mission style and DS1's open world exploration. Regardless, the souls series as a whole is one of my favorites, and even my least favorite entries in the series are still top tier games in my mind.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows The Harsh Reality Of Playing Dark Souls: Remastered In New Trailer

NoxAeturnus

@EmberTune Interestingly, I came at it from the other angle. Dark Souls sold me on Hollow Knight. I was super skeptical of HK at first, because whenever I hear "souls-like" in advance of a game's release my reflex is skepticism, but after playing it my opinion is that the comparison is more than justified. HK is pretty much 2D souls. Same sense of exploration, tonally similar, same sense of accomplishment in the combat/bosses. Both are excellent games.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows The Harsh Reality Of Playing Dark Souls: Remastered In New Trailer

NoxAeturnus

@Blizzia @darthstuey @NintendoFan4Lyf Not sure I agree that Bloodborne is necessarily easier than DS, I think the pace is just...different. Bloodborne's aggressive pace and combat timing is closer to typical action games, which I think makes it easier for people who play a lot of those kinds of games. Most games favor aggression. On the other hand, DS is sort of a patience simulator, where lack of caution and overextending yourself are brutally punished. In BB, playing with that cautious DS style will get you killed just as fast as trying to charge into the melee in DS. I have a friend who hates BB for that exact reason - he can't seem to get it through his head that it's NOT Dark Souls. Either way they're both fantastic games. Can't wait to play DS on Switch, and I'm sad that Sony owns Demon's Souls and BB so we'll never see either go multiplat.

Re: Valkyria Chronicles 4 - A Sublime Strategy Experience On Switch

"Sometimes an entire page in the diary is just cutscenes, while other pages have two or three battles back to back. The ability to skip cutscenes and dialogue by tapping the ‘-‘ button helps to alleviate this, but you’re then missing out on key story elements to give context to the playable battles."

This seems like a strange criticism. I mean, I get that the mix of cutscenes and battles might have been a bit better, that's fine, but this seems to me to be saying that it's easy to skip the cutscenes and get back to the battles if you want to, but if you do you'll miss out on story content. Uh... yes? That's how cutscenes work?

Re: Video: New Pokémon Let's Go Trailer Reveals Secret Techniques, Partner Moves And More

NoxAeturnus

@TJWorks I partially agree that this is for a younger audience. That's what the co-op is for. This is being marketed (somewhat) as a parent-child game. Why Kanto? Because there's still lots of nostalgia for Kanto among adults. Why simplify? Because adults don't have the time to put into learning mechanical systems that they used to as children. Why co-op? So that a parent who is excited about this game can buy it and play it with their child, introducing them to the franchise and thus widening the player base. The game is aimed at lapsed gen 1 players who came back for Pokemon Go, but are put off by the amount of features (and bloat) in the latest gen games, it's not really being aimed at kids. All of the games have been for kids, and those never needed simplification.

@Datwun Speak for yourself on random battles. I enjoy kicking a couple wild ones down on the way to the next town. In my case, simplification =/= dumbing down. My real issue with the Go catching mechanic is that it undermines the series' core values. Since the beginning, Pokemon has been about catching them all, but it's also been heavily about friendship, especially with your captured 'mon. Yet in Go, I catch them and abandon them with impunity, making catching meaningless. It's a bland mechanic. For me that's a downgrade. They took away some of my fun and replaced it with something bland and uninteresting. It doesn't mean the games will be the worst thing ever, they'll probably still be fun for what they are, I'm just also glad they already announced a main line entry for next year.

Re: Dragon Ball FighterZ Producer Thanks Fans For Requesting Game On Nintendo Switch

NoxAeturnus

@TheOpponent No one can force you to buy a game you don't want. Don't like an ultimatum, don't buy it.

@NinjaSyao Blackmail is a strong word. No one coerced anyone into purchasing Xenoverse 2.

I'm not saying that that kind of ultimatum is ok, because it's an awful ploy. Your game should be able to sell based on its merit without needing to beg for sales.

What I'm saying is, if you purchased Xenoverse 2, or really any game solely as a sign of support, and not because you wanted the game, you're part of the problem.

Buy games you want to play and let the market sort itself out. Purchasing games to encourage publishers? My wallet is not their cheerleading section. Doing this artificially inflates sales for bad games, giving a false positive that more people want that game, making sequels for bad franchises more likely. I don't float the bad sales decisions of publishers and developers, and I certainly don't listen to calls to purchase a game solely in hopes of more. I buy games I want to play. Period.

@tedko I didn't find the use of the shoulder buttons strange, because sometimes I do that. No doubt it's more comfortable with the attachments, sometimes I'm just lazy and I apparently hate my fingers.

But now that you've pointed it out, that picture is kinda weird. Here hand models, hold these things. No, not like that, flip it over. Good enough. Now tilt them a bit. Alright, good job everyone, we'll add the "game footage" later.
