Re: Sega Provides Updated Sales Figures For Sonic Frontiers And Sonic Superstars

NotASockPuppet

@Samalik Idk about that. There has only been 1 Sonic Mania and only 1 2D Sonic game featuring Classic Sonic since Sonic & Knuckles (not counting Superstars). You have to remember that Sonic Mania is almost 10 years old, literally everybody was hyped for it around it's release, and everybody loved it for quite a while. I'm just saying people shouldn't have resentment over 1 game that was released nearly a decade ago.
But I have to agree that nostalgia is plaguing the series, the overuse of the same zones (Green Hill, Chemical Plant etc.), I think I understand why people are hating on Mania, people like me were hyped at seeing new levels, but Sonic Team forced Whitehead to turn it into a ham-fisted nostalgia trip, not thinking that fans already played the hell out of the Genesis games and are bored of them.
However, I think "classic" 2D Sonic, a more "modern" 2D Sonic that utilizes new mechanics, and 3D modern Sonic can all co-exist all to the damnation of the other neglected SEGA IPs 😅

@Samalik
You say that, but you are forgetting there's a reason why Mania and the Genesis games work. They are not experimental with questionable choices, and don't rely on the same "press X to boost and win" mechanics which do plague present day Sonic.
Mania went back to basics, not going too fast, beautiful and creative scenery, actually mixing in puzzles and making the player choose their next step and think about the route they want to take. It proved to be successful considering that it's said to be the best Sonic since at least the Adventure and Advance series from inside and outside the Sonic fanbase.

Honestly, Superstars SHOULD have been handled by Christian Whitehead and his team. They seemed like they were up to the job, even creating some really rad concepts.
I'm just super confused as to why SEGA/Sonic Team dropped them out of nowhere in favor of the group behind Yoshi's New Island and Balan Wonderland of all people? Just proves that SEGA really likes shooting themselves in the foot any chance they get.
Here's hoping they give Whitehead and his group another chance if they decide to continue with Classic Sonic, and I hope Whitehead accepts it. (But I will perfectly understand if he flips SEGA the middle finger and walks away to do his own things to much better success)

Re: Gallery: LEGO's New Game Boy Set Is A Mini Masterpiece

NotASockPuppet

Oh, I was expecting that you could actually play it to some degree.
It has the problem like a lot of other pre-design sets in Lego. Like it looks fun building it, but after you've done that there's not a whole lot you can do with it. It's especially egregious in this case because what's the point exactly if it doesn't function like an actual Gameboy? Trick others in the distance that you're playing a real Gameboy?

Re: Opinion: The Mario Movie Was Okay At Best, But I Can't Wait For The Sequel

@N00BiSH Yes, I understand your complaint and I don't hardly disagree with it.
However making a movie adaption of a videogame is a slippery slope; you can be different to the source material and piss off those that wanted it to be more faithful, or you can be faithful to the source material and piss off those that think it's being lazy for being too faithful.
The only success story of keeping that balance so far has been the Sonic The Hedgehog movies (though the human side of the stories can go suck eggs.)
I'm just saying that if they made it kind of the same but add some flavor to it, it wouldn't be safe and Nintendo hates to take risks these days.

To be honest, I think people here that complain that the movie has no depth when it comes to the characters and story, seem to forget the games themselves lack depth with characters and story.
Now if they were making a Paper Mario movie based on the earlier Paper Mario games, or one based on Mario & Luigi I can understand the complaint.
But as far as I am concerned the Super Mario Bros. Movie is a mere reflection of the games with literally minimal plot and mostly silent characters. It's main purpose is to flash pretty colors, make kids invested, and to advertise the games.

Re: Round Up: Everything Announced For Super Mario's 40th Anniversary

Honestly, it was what I was expecting. And, I don't know how to feel, like at this rate I have no desire to pick up the Switch 2 until 2027 at the earliest. The only thing that peaked my interest is the new Tomodachi, and that is more of a niche time-waster. The new Yoshi looks okay, but I'm not going to drop 500 big ones just for two games, and small updates for games I've already completed to death.
My sentiments is that people that like the Switch 2 so far are those that can't get the 3rd party games on anything else, otherwise I have no idea 🤷‍♂️

Re: Revived Publisher Acclaim Is Teasing Something For Next Week

@xzacutor glad I'm not the only one who was reminded of Sinistar.
I think you are referring to Williams who developed (and possibly still own) the original arcade classic, but I don't think they outright own the IP if the "sequel" 'Sinistar Unleashed' is any indication, which was was developed by GameFX and published by THQ, it had no involvement from Williams. And that game was over 20+ years ago, who knows who landed the Sinistar IP since then.
The world of video game copyright/trademark is a lot more murky than film and animation, you really don't know who owns what especially with 40+ year old IPs.
