Re: Rumour: EA And Nintendo Looking To Rekindle "Unprecedented Partnership" On NX

NodesforNoids

@cleveland124 'Nintendo would do them right'
Like Ultra Smash? amiibo Festival? Mario Golf Island Party?
Nintendo makes platformers, cartoony racers and multitiered 2D fighters well.
Their 3D actioners, sports games and RPGs haven't been well received in years and even the platformers are being outdone.
Rayman Legends was better than SMBU. Splatoon is a decent online game, but Battlefront still beat it sales wise. In a tenth of the time.
Nintendo gamers won't play them?
Then Nintendo will fail and Nintendo gamer will just be someone that used to exist.

Re: Rumour: EA And Nintendo Looking To Rekindle "Unprecedented Partnership" On NX

NodesforNoids

@Zanark The 'why fight' mentality is what got Nintendo to the Wii U.
They made a 'must have' item with the Wii and developers supported it for a while.
Eventually though, not fighting found Nintendo doing their own thing, alone. And going at it alone for another console isn't going to cut it. Unless the 'core' fans want to see Nintendo go handheld / mobile only, getting 3rd party support back is critical.
Battlefront and Black Ops 3 outsold every Nintendo game released last year. Combined. They came out in November. Losing that kind of support again is going to be a nail in the coffin.
After Nintendo rejected EA's Origin deal, I was happy. But clearly, only Nintendo lost in the end. You call them junk, I call it making money and Nintendo makes their fair share of junk.

Re: First Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 Footage Shown At MAGFest 2016

NodesforNoids

Azure Striker was good, just not good enough to tide people over until 2023 when Mighty No. 9 releases on 3 Sony home consoles, and like 40 other platforms, simultaneously.
Red Ash was tossed under the bus by supporters who felt they were already being jerked around and I am starting to hope Inafune retires and stops wasting people's time and money.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Favourite Legend of Zelda Games - 30th Anniversary Edition

NodesforNoids

Why not.
6. A Link Between Worlds
(The structuring was fine, but I disliked most of (ok, all of) the supporting cast, including Zelda, Hilda and the sages)
7. Oracle of Ages
8. Wind Waker
(The sailing, camera, dungeons, stealth and Triforce segments dragged the game down. But the ending sequence, art style and music were all fantastic)
9. Oracle of Seasons
10. Skyward Sword
(I get that it's realistic, but the fact your first shield breaks and you have to backtrack to 'make' a new one is ridiculous, other negatives were the 'divining' mechanism, sword sensitivity and everything to do with Ghirahim)
11. Zelda 2
(The fact that each screen is staggered is baffling, it really breaks the game in my opinion)
12. Zelda 1
(A perfect Hyrule cannot hide the fact that the combat is terrible and ruins the game in the first 2-3 hours of every playthrough)
13. Majora's Mask
(Strong dislike for Termina, 3 of the first 4 dungeons were pretty subpar with mediocre, uninspired bosses and I hated the final boss segments)

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Favourite Legend of Zelda Games - 30th Anniversary Edition

NodesforNoids

5. Ocarina of Time
Best story, terrible camera. Great music (tied with ALttP), worst Hyrule.
4. Twilight Princess
Best Ganon / Ganondorf, worst art style. Best continuity (Zant and the captain), best Hyrule Castle, worst supporting character (Ilia, Midna tied for 4th).
3. Minish Cap
Best non-Ganon villain, best lore (tied with Skyward Sword). Most entertaining combat, unremarkable music.
2. A Link to the Past
Best art style (tied with Wind Waker), hardest. Best music, unremarkable combat.
1. Link's Awakening
Best overworld (Zelda 1 for best Hyrule), engaging music. Engaging combat (set-up the excellent Oracle games perfectly), best supporting character (Marin).

Re: Random: Real Zero Escape: Trust on Trial Will Take a Literal Approach to the Iconic Game Series

NodesforNoids

I didn't mind the sequel, but the original was one of the most boring and (frankly) annoying games I've ever played. Got it for 10$ on sale, traded it for 12$ and bought A Link Between Worlds with a 20$ prepaid Visa.
There used to be an 'experience' that simulated a refugee escaping into the States from Mexico. You had to sleep outside, there was a meal at the end and 'guards' shot at you with blanks.
It sounds like a better idea than this and Donald Trump's idea of 'good immigration policy'.

Re: Nintendo Download: 18th February (North America)

NodesforNoids

Another Fire Emblem game?
Pass.
It's not a bad week if you like 25 year old NES games for your Wii U.
Or one bad game (PXZ was horrible and the sequel just adds more characters) and a waifu sim.
Oh mighty Square Enix, bring Dragon Quest to save this abysmal handheld, posthaste!

Re: Rumour: Final Fantasy VII Remake And XV Headed To NX, Could Be Definitive Versions

NodesforNoids

I get one thing that likely drives this rumor: Cloud in Smash.
But let's look at FF's history.
The first 6 games were exclusive to Nintendo systems.
The 7th was a Sony exclusive.
And since then, the only main series games to appear on a Nintendo console are VC or remakes.
But because of that history (and the fact Final Fantasy is one of the most iconic series' in gaming) it was only natural for Square, like Capcom, Sega and Namco, to want their characters in a game like Smash.
And out of every FF character, arguably none is more typical than Cloud.
He is a fighter. He battles giant monsters. And he has a very distinct look.
Think about it: no other FF character has ever had a movie based on his game. 7 inspired Crisis Core.
Cloud v Sephiroth IS Final Fantasy. It is the definitive confrontation in a game that changed the series.

Re: Rumour: Final Fantasy VII Remake And XV Headed To NX, Could Be Definitive Versions

NodesforNoids

It's not surprising to me that the NX will be as if not more powerful than the PS4. 3 years after the PS4's launch? It would be stupid not to make it more powerful.
Like Nintendo waiting 5 years and have the N64 struggle with games like RE2, having a weak NX would be foolish.
But people getting hyped by this is hilarious. I remember the exact opposite happening with games like Arkham City and ME3 and they were far from definitive.
A million and one things will have to change for Nintendo to have anything 'definitive' or even worth buying if their past 3 systems have been any indication (3DS tanked at launch, Wii U has failed every sales forecast and the Wii spent the last 2 years before the Wii U the opposite as it started: everywhere, with no one wanting one and no new games to be found).

Re: VIDEO: 7th Dragon III Code: VFD Wants You to Know Dragons are Dangerous

NodesforNoids

Fates feels like a step back (and almost too accessible), FF Explorers is way too MH heavy, Stella Glow is just Tactics with a crappy musical story. Bravely Default was fun for maybe half of the game.
Honestly, if this can capture even half the magic of PSIII AND IV, it's a must have in my book.
DQ VII is also much more anticipated than VIII (which sounds horrible compared to the original).
I don't know, I like the idea of Langrisser and some of the 3DS titles, but the Vita's still pumping out some fun RPGs too.
I really like Rainbow Moon, Trails of Cold Steel and Trails in the Sky SC, but it's all window dressing right now.
Ys8, Star Ocean 5, FF XV, FFVIIR, and I've yet to play Digimonstory or Megadimension Neptunia V2.
Still plugging away at SAO and Zestiria (the cutscenes and world are pretty fantastic).
My friend in electronics (another manager, I'm in the pharmacy now) is pretty hyped for Bravely Second and he's convinced it'll finish better than the first game.
I'm still not sold on it.
Personally, I'd love a sequel to an action RPG first (maybe a Spirit Tracks follow-up with adult Link) and on the New 3DS.

Re: Analyst Firm DFC Believes a 2016 Nintendo NX Launch "Would Be a Mistake"

NodesforNoids

@fbrathwaite that's a great point, but the Wii U can only be a 'primary console' with something else supplementing it.
I spent 1600$ on the Wii U and games. I had it for 26 months. I racked up hours upon hours on both Mario platformers, finally played Xenoblade Chronicles and the Last Story and 100% Lego City.
And yet after buying a PS4 in October of this past year, I've spent less than 1000$, with more games to show for it.
Between the Witcher 3, Saints Row IV, SAO: Lost Song and Bloodborne, I have more than 220 hours played, or about as much time invested as every Wii U and Wii game combined.
And that's maybe half of the time I've used it.

Re: Analyst Firm DFC Believes a 2016 Nintendo NX Launch "Would Be a Mistake"

NodesforNoids

@8bitforever handhelds are key, yes.
But Nintendo is still of the mindset that local multiplayer is big too.
Without a home console, Nintendo loses out on a big market.
And to be honest, it's not one that Sony or Microsoft have really cared to touch.
It's literally the only market that PC gaming can't really compete with.
It's an area mobile gaming can't compete with either.
Smash, MK and Mario live on that market share and Nintendo abandoning that would be foolhardy. It has Splatoon, but the online there is hardly an elite feature.
They need the local play 10x more than their 'competitors'.

Re: Analyst Firm DFC Believes a 2016 Nintendo NX Launch "Would Be a Mistake"

NodesforNoids

Home NX alone: plays Wii U games (with the full Wii U VC from Day 1).
Away NX alone: plays 3DS and DS games (DS is essential to make all those great 3rd party games available).
Together: PS4 / PC quality games.
The problem isn't that games aren't available right now. The problem is that we're almost done. And the sliver of hope the 3DS has left is mostly Square Enix and a host of Atlu et al bringing over RPGs.
You need to get butts in seats, so to speak.
Those games will do nothing to sell systems.
It's funny how there are those questioning 2016 being a big year for gaming.
It's going to be massive. From the Division, Uncharted 4 and SFV to the multi-plat release of RotTR, the next Call of Duty (always a runaway hit) and Watch Dogs 2, it's going to be big.
And yeah, a whole host of new franchises, (potentially) a new Zelda and VR on top of that.
The big questions lay with Nintendo, just not because they're the most interesting or important. But because if they flop again, consumer confidence will have them playing golf with Sega.
I ask again, how did Sony sell 4 times as many systems in 65% of the time?
Really, it's baffling.
Then again, Microsoft could own Sega and be dominating Japan so I've learned to just nod and smile when talking about consumer purchasing habits, game console manufacturers and the figure heads who try so hard to hide the painful looking wires sticking out of their backsides.

Re: Review: LEGO Marvel’s Avengers (Wii U)

NodesforNoids

For reference, I had a 6 minute load going from the police station to the overworld the first time I played the game.
So complaining about a minute might be extreme when the bigger loads are 4-6 minutes.
Waiting 4-6 minutes for a 2013 game is kind of sad.
The Witcher 3 doesn't take 3 minutes to load ten times the data.

Re: Review: LEGO Marvel’s Avengers (Wii U)

NodesforNoids

@mjc0961 Whoa, whoa, whoa.
The only way to improve that game?
First, the game is one of 3 that uses the Gamepad properly. Your opinion of the Gamepad isn't essential to the discussion.
Secondly, the only way to improve it.. Is to put it on better hardware. Minute long load times and still getting the worst pop-up and pop-in?
The voice acting was fun, the missions were fun (despite the vehicles controlling like Project Cars at times) and there were massive amounts of slow down and wholly skipped frames.
The last mission (Project Meteorite, so as not to spoil things) was terrible for technical shortcomings.
It was fine playing the game in one area but every single time you had to go somewhere else, it was a struggle not to catch a nap waiting for those load screens.
I like TT's original works better than the licensed work (though Batman 2 and 3 were both alot better than Jurrasic World, Dimensions or the Hobbit and Movie was short and cheap) but to do another City on Wii U would be a waste. Personally, I'd like a Ghostbusters standalone game, I just feel like the humor and gameplay options match-up better than what they've done so far.
It would be closer to City than Marvel or DC, which would be nice.
As an aside:
Flight as Superman in the Lego games has been the best representation of Superman in any video game ever. It might be fun to give them a non-Lego license on Batman v Superman and see what happens.
Or a Rocksteady Superman / Spiderman / Captain America / Wonder Woman.
I personally have been pulling for Batgirl (Cassandra's darker Batgirl, not Barbara's more cartoony version).

Re: Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem Wii U Crossover is Finally Shown

Generic, anime style characters?
Check.
Over the top battle sequences?
Check.
Gaping fan service?
Check.
Wasteful use of two series in order to replace the absence of Persona 5 on the Wii U / Nintendo systems?
Check.
And that, folks, is all this boils down to.
Nintendo not getting Persona 5 and so Atlus is milking the name Fire Emblem for a quick cash grab.
It'll probably sell systems, so that's great, but for me (and it sounds like many others) it will be just one more Atlus game to 'tarnish' their rep.
As if selling out to Sega, pumping out a half dozen Etrian games (a chibi one and two remakes, seriously?), rushing SMTIV (the map, my god) releasing slow, dull, and boring Code of Princess (the slowdown is atrociously bad), SMT's re-releases, 3 versions of Persona 4 and a rather underwhelming P5 weren't enough.
Nintendo has the clay and yarn games, the builder and editor games, Splatoon and a fully open world Zelda coming (or recently released). For all the flak Nintendo takes for rehashing the same characters, at least those characters work in multiple games. Atlus has 3 games: Persona, SMT and Etrian. And every deviation they've made is an absolute flop.
I shouldn't be this surprised, I'm just sad I hyped my friends on this game so much, only to get.. THIS.
When Atlus can bring out a NEW idea with a good storyline and better gameplay, call me.
Otherwise, hold my calls.
On the other hand, the generic looking FEif looked 10x better after the relative banality of the first trailer was explained away with the details in the second. Splatoon is a small download and looks phenomenal and a lot of fun. Wooly Yoshi has hands down the best amiibos. And what's that.. Fatal Frame V is being localized?? Yeah, Atlus just got shelled on this Direct. Hopefully the strategy, maturity and plot of older SMT / FE titles shows through, instead of.. THIS.

DKC, months after EU and still no Golden Sun: Lost Age.
Nice it's not one at a time, but these drawn out release schedules, coupled with idiotic pricing, platform selection and regional differences has closed me entirely to the VC.
Nintendo should be hitting every month, not 3-5 times a year.

Re: Talking Point: New Nintendo 3DS, Operation Faceplate NA and the Bigger Picture

NodesforNoids

Nintendo isn't laughing at their fans. They're saying 'We knew you'd be mad, it's funny how personally you're taking this'. Japanese gamers buy the white Wii U. To the point the black system was phased out. Key fobs are huge in Japan. White is an immensely popular console color in general. Flourescent, bright colors are popular.
But really, the biggest difference between EU / Japan and NA, is reliance on public transportation. And NA gamers that will buy the 'New XL' aren't looking for flashy children's toys. Which is exactly the stigma associated with the faceplates.
A local games guy told me (after selling all 38 of their stock in 4 hours) 'It's Nintendo's most legitimate offering and the 'suits' are all over it. We don't have room for extra accessories either.'
Which brings up my final point: gaming is less and less a 'physical science'. Had the Wii U Basic or original 3DS been better received, I'd be confused. But NA gamers have proven they won't support options en masse, they just want the option of further distinguishing themselves, to elevate themselves over what they perceive to be 'lesser' markets.

Re: Video: You NEED To Play Metroid Prime Trilogy

NodesforNoids

Metroid, like Zelda, Kirby, Smash, DK and others, got better from the original, though Metroid was the one with 4 remakes (Prime, Super, Zero Mission, Other M). Which is why I appreciated Echoes and Fusion so immensely.. and why adopting motion as the ONLY option was so infuriating.

Re: Review: Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl (3DS)

NodesforNoids

It's understandable, recycling monsters and weapons if you want to build consistency in your lore. It's just too bad both III and IV are so much better.
Got this for 15$ recently and it's nothing but a painful reminder of how unnecessary remaking this game was.
Typically tripe and generic story mode, unbalanced enemy encounters and far too much backtracking and double dipping for my tastes.
A 7, as it's still a decent game, but as a remake, it's barely a 5.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS Prices Pop Up in Italy, and They're Not Bad

NodesforNoids

My cheap 3DS is still fresh (to me anyways) so I won't be picking one up just yet, but I did borrow a DS from my brother to play some GBA games (and finish Spirit Tracks one an original DS, a longtime goal of mine). I told him 'when I get a New 3DS next year, I'll give this back to you'. For GBA, I'll hang onto it and surprise him with an upgrade to 3DS (he doesn't play GBA anymore) and pick up one of those rather swanky blue black XLs.
Beyond excited for the Direct, but new games will have to wait too. My Wii U Gamepad met my kid and it wasn't pretty. HUG crack and some bleeding in the LCD panel. Nintendo quoted me 99$ to repair just the screen, but I'll end up paying 140$ to replace.

Re: Nintendo Download: 15th January (Europe)

NodesforNoids

TTT 2 is a rather frustrating game.
Worth the discount, but the Wii U's analog sticks are terrible for anything Tekken. Honestly, they're unresponsive and sluggish in comparison and for a fast moving fighter, it's almost inexcusable.
For multiplayer, totally worth the investment learning the controls.
For me, this week is a pass.
NA gamer here, waiting for some VC games to finally make their way over here. Like, DKC, and Golden Sun 2.

Re: Review: Maze (Wii U eShop)

NodesforNoids

Retro City Rampage didn't make money on the Wii Shop.
Nintendo removed the base line and opened the doors.
Junk and garbage came to the eShop.
People complained.
~
Still funny to me, terrible games sold for dirt cheap flooded the Wii Shop with shovelware and made money. Decent games failed to meet sales expectations and never saw a dime.
Am I stoked people buy the trashy titles?
No, as it usually means less money to the truly exceptional ones.
Is it my money they're spending?
Again, no.
The eShop is full of screenshots.
Do your homework and don't buy it.
Seriously. It's less difficult to avoid garbage on the Wii U eShop than it is to avoid all the 3DS listings.

Re: Review: Maze (Wii U eShop)

NodesforNoids

Myst. Doom. Wolfenstein. In line with some of Treefall's general structure, but over 25 years old and with unique twists.
It looks like the game is being made in DOS with the free Paint program that came with Windows 3.1, that the bug checker is 4 and has a hard time spelling his own name and does this to support his part-time college job of making uninspired logos for local businesses lacking creativity and ambition.
I'm not saying change the industry, just to stop wasting people's time with half finished, alpha pandering.
If you can't do backgrounds, character sprites or any worthwhile art, hire people or make connections. If I were Minecraft or Slenderman's dev, I'd be offended that this is what my work inspired.
It's better than the Letter, but so is Superman 64.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U Virtual Console Has Started, But Not With a Bang

NodesforNoids

Funny, the suggestion by some commenters that these games are ROMs being emulated.
Not true.
Each game is a seperate, independent file. It's to limit or prevent piracy.
A year and 8 months later, and Nintendo's biggest issue is the same: limited system selection and lack of cross-buy.
DSi, GB, GBC, Game Gear and NES on the 3DS (lacking GBA and SNES).
NES, SNES and GBA on the Wii U (missing all the 3rd party platforms from the Wii VC, N64 and Gamecube).
Nintendo has been floundering, particularly NoA.
Europe has actually been a bit better, but when there aren't many indie / retail releases coming, Nintendo needs to be hitting with 2-4 VC games.
The PS4 gets more games in a week than Nintendo systems get in a month and that's just pathetic.

Re: Retrospective: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap - A Decade On

NodesforNoids

'Vaati is pretty much the dullest villain of all time'..?
A good wizard's apprentice, corrupted with power.
Shows up constantly through the game (like Ganondorf in Wind Waker and Ocarina or Zant in Twilight Princess).
Has an intense and personal history with Ezlo.
Turns Zelda to stone.
Possesses the king and rules Hyrule from the shadows.
Works without Ganon's interference.
And is basically Link's age (a 10-12 year old evil sorcerer with a dark side? Kind of creepy).
I dunno, I think he's more interesting than half of Ganon / Ganondorf's appearances and introduces some variety into a series that feels very copy and paste at times.
A Minish enemy in the Minish Cap? Good idea.
Better than Ganondorf being shoehorned into TP.

Re: Nintendo Steps Away From The Brazilian Market

NodesforNoids

So because Brazil charges huge taxes, tariffs and duties on their stuff, it's Nintendo's fault for not wanting people to get ripped off?
I mean, really, it's reverse piracy.
The country is literally robbing its citizens to sustain the local economy and it's horrible.
Canadian prices are more than the US, because our dollar is weaker now, but whatever the case, it's tough to comment on the situation without being in it myself.
If I'd had to pay 500-600$ for a Wii U and over 300$ for a 3DS, I'd be mad at my government and their terrible customs policies, not the company selling them.

Re: Nintendo Download: 8th January (North America)

NodesforNoids

All in all, BN2 feels more complete and more polished.
In addition, Chariot looks pretty cool and they could have done so much worse than Adventures of Lolo.
It's cool, I get it.
I'm frustrated too.
Aside from some early retail releases, Europe has been dominating America.
From Ambassador 3DS', better CN rewards and earlier VC releases, it seems like Nintendo wants the region to be stronger, despite the fact Europeans haven't exactly jumped on the Wii U train.
Maybe 3DS support is better but Nintendo needs unity right now and this division is costing them sales.

Re: Nintendo Download: 8th January (North America)

NodesforNoids

@Sinalefa
I'd say MMBN2 is far superior to the original.
The story is still random school kid fighting adults using Mega Man and his random villains.
The gameplay is vastly similar, just not as frustrating outside combat.
Very accessible, with some challenging end game content and cool nods to both Capcom and Nintendo.

Re: Gallery: Here's What The New Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Edition Looks Like In The Flesh

NodesforNoids

Funny how everyone seems to be complaining about Nintendo re-releasing the 3DS with slightly different branding.
Sure, there is at least one game that will not be playable on current systems, but just remember: PSOne, PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim, Xbox 360 Elite, PS Vita (without OLED), PSP 2000, PSP 3000, DSi, Wii Mini and let's not forget all the DS and 3DS iterations (XL and Lite, to be specific).
Personally, I think the increased CPU, RAM, vRAM, battery life, size, enhanced 3D, new C-stick and additional buttons are exactly what the system needed.
We've already seen, on Vita, that super HD isn't necessary for a handheld.
With what they've added, Nintendo likely won't announce the system's successor until E3 '16 at the earliest.
As long as Nintendo keeps rolling out 4-6 key first party efforts annually, they've got the 3rd party support Wii U doesn't.
I'll likely pick up a black or blue XL this summer and that'll be it until the big PS4 system seller hits.
